Wow, the picture says you're moving at 36 mph 750 meters UNDER sea level: either you live inside a submarine, or MTK GPS is pretty unreliable isn't it?
Btw, I tried the procedure on a firend's phone and it worked almost good, it didn't fix at all before but now even if it fixes, loses GPS signal very often, requiring 3 to 15 minutes to have GPS back!
I also tried Engineer functions with test and reset operations, but GPS is always unreliable (1 hour trrip it lost GPS for more than half an hour, making navigation imposssible!)
I think the GPS hardware is really unstable and/or buggy. Any idea?

Yeah the hardware is really crap
And i was undersea and was sleeping there...

What's the point of having fast lock when precision suck?
:banghead:
Bumping accuracy threshold from zero to 3000 likely report hyper sonic speed way off sea level

My MTK Phone
Same frustrating GPS issues here.
Hi my MTK phone from china has a file under something like gps-profiles-config. should I delete this and replace it with yours? or do i just paste it along with that one?

Engineer code MKT6577 phone
Hi I found a code for the engineer mode.
Here you can also change the settings for the GPS and test it.
Looks like my GPS is not working because it doesn't show any satelites.
The code is *#*#3646633#*#*
You have to use the phone dialer.
Hope this wil help to find a sollution for the GPS problem.
Jan,

Thanks, the fix help me too in a Jiayu G2S with MTK6577T. Locking in 10 secs.
Here is a screen indoor:

He guy I have a Vowney V5 MT6589 phone, its working pretty well, except my GPS which isn't working, I tried another method but it didn't work, would this guide work for MT6589 phones?

Hi guys
I was having issues and tried multiple solutions including the one posted here in this forum. I believe it helped me the most, because it resurrected a non working GPS. However it was still taking 3-5 minutes to get a lock. I came across the following video post and after applying it the lock time is sub one minute... which is great. I thought I'd share it here
Basically the answer is to delete/ rename the mtkgps.dat file from data/misc and then recreate it with the mobile uncle tools .apk which can be got from the play store.
The youtube video makes it easy.
youtube.com/watch?v=NsUSvd-SlVo
Of course your phone needs to be rooted as well. I can take no responsibility for what happens if you try it. But it's worked for me.
Also as said before, This only worked in conjunction with the fix discussed here in this forum.

Hi,
I tried to use your solution in the video, my phone did not open the gps fix app but in the end I found a gps signal thx!

€: Now I have the problem that I have to do all the steps above every time when I want to use GPS...can you please help me to fix this problem?

The Real GPS Fix
To all members with GPS not getting a fix on the satellites with the V1277 (6577) in a reasonable time I have the answer and it does not require anything but a screw driver and cleaning fluid.
No rooting is required or messing about with the gps config.
Firstly remove the back cover.
There are 4 screws holding the housing remove them and unclip the rear housing .
Take anti static precautions i.e ground yourself.
Use alcohol or another circuit board cleaner and clean all the contacts on both the main body of the phone and housing, Job done.
Before I did this I could not even get a fix on the gps satellites outside , I can get a fix in the living room.
I think the problem lies with the production environment of these phone not being as clean as the major manufacturers dirt and oxides in the air, I use to work as a debug engineer on mobile phones at Motorola, well at least its came in handy.
Probably a fix for most china based phones

This method does not work on my device. I start wondering if there a gps antenna in my phone, maybe they cut cost and remove the antenna

satellite Expire after 7 Days ?

Hi All,
when i download satellite , it expires after 7 days.
is there any fix to keep the satellite for longer period ?
or any other method to never expire the satellite .
thanks
You don't download satellites
What you're talking about is QuickGPS which is meant to support a faster GPS-fix.
YOu can set within the options of QuickGPS, that your data is updated either after a certain period automatically or always when you connect it to your PC.
It needs you internet-connection.

yes it is QuickGPS which i was trying to refer to.
it expire after 7 days... then my tomtom does not work.
can you please give me some tips how can it be fixed ?
thanks
Just enter QuickGPS, click menu and alter the update settings to fit your needs.

I really don't see your problem. When I enter QuickGPS I see this screen:

There you just have to check the box within the red rectangle. Then you'll never have to care about QuickGPS anymore - updates work automatically then.
thats just quickGPS data to help u lockon to data faster
He thinks that his tom tom doesn't work anymore after 7 days. correct me if i'm wrong.
I really don't see what your problem is here. The QuickGPS data is simply there to get a faster GPS fix. The data will automatically download every 7 days, and you can change the settings. It's very simple.
If TomTom is the problem, then contact them. But I highly doubt that QuickGPS is the problem.
he wants the data not to expire after seven days!
i think he's not asking for an automated update.
like the others said: quickgps is just for getting a FASTER satellite-fix. if the data is expired, the fix might take (a lot) longer. tomtom will work with expired data, but taking a long time to get fix might let you think it doesn't work.
as far as i know, there's no way to "keep" the satellite data longer. it needs to be refreshed after a max of seven days (du to the satellites moving around in orbit and changing their position maybe).
well tecnically the data never realy exspires if you tick all the boxes becouse when ever you connect to your pc or wifi the data will update automatically, so there is no problem?
also i have been using tomtom since my wizard days and yes sometimes you do get the delay in getting signal lock but i have never had any issues with my hd2
thank you guys.
so basically if its expires, my tomtom will work without any problem ?
if thats the case then i think i need to update my hd2. and clear any registry leftover,
thanks again for all your help
QuickGPS Just help GPS fix sooner but GPS can still work without it, In that case TomTom take you longer time to get an acurate fix. I usually start Gmap first, it work with both AGPS(almost get a fix at once, based on your 3g connection), and GPS, when GPS fixed, I start my navigate program. Hope these help.

i do not have 3G connections.. i bought this phone @ full price.
is there any possible way out there to get quick gps signal ?
i do not have 3G connections.. so its a problem for me if the satlite expire after 7 days..
Another advice is to stand still in open ground in order to get better GPS signal (when your HD2 start searching for GPS), usually take me about 40 seconds to 1 minute and a half to get an accurate fix without AGPS or QuickGPS data. It's very quick even compared with professional navigate device.
Satellites don't expire after 7 days but need to be refresh !
Check the activesync box and connect your phone to your PC just before using TomTom then satellites will be update.
I have never downloaded quickgps anyway . my HTC finds me on GARMIN XT
between 2 and 6 SECONDS . I have signal inside my 2 story house . I used to have pharos traveler 127 with gps and if I lay it down it loses signal . This HTC
has Kickass GPS . I dont even think there is any use for quick gps on this device .

Thank you guys.. it HD2 gps works without QuickGPS download. i had some different issue. eversince i updated Energy ROM, it works great.
Isn´t it a miracle how many people are breathing precious air and walk over the planet Earth without knowing what they are doing and without any will to research what´s behind an issue ???
Reminds me to the iPhone vs EVO - cartoon everytime I read posts like this
- Change HKLM\Software\HTC\QuickGPS "ExpiredTime" from 10080 to whatever value you want. value is in seconds, i.e 1440 for 24hrs.

8 GPS problems, advice. & questions (xtra, agps cache, epo, hardware,

1) It could actually be hardware.
On my i9000 the rubber connector between the case and the board had failed. Trying to solder a spring onto it appeared to burn out the chip completely.
Try another device in the same place. Looking at my Nexus I see a spring connection to the back case for some kind of ariel. Not sure if it's for the GPS. Q: Can we connect an external GPS antenna to help test this variable? Most people have tested this by breaking the connection between the mainboard and the antenna. It's a slow process unfortunately.
i9000 hardware GPS problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697217
Nexus S 4G CDMA (i9020a) link to same problem
Page 5 has links to internal diagrams and mention of NFC antenna getting magnetised affecting compass.
2) No GPS in the sky (or not enough of them). Go as far North as Northern Norway or Alaska and you can have troubles.
Try another device in the same area. Cloud cover will degrade the signal, so will trees. Q: Better way to test without standing out in the rain?
3) AGPS cache has crap in it.
Do a AGPS reset.
4) AGPS server connectivity. Could be a GPRS problem. Could be WiFi problem. Could be at the server. Check what server you're using to see if you can contact it from the phone. Q: Is ping a good way to check?
5) EPO server fails. Perhaps md5sum is broken:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975500
YGPS and the engineering menu on mtk65** phones is very useful. EPO downloads a map of where satelites are expected to be so the GPS then know exactly what to expect. The list is updated once per day. Q: I'm only aware of this on Mediatek phones?
6) GPS works better when moving.
If you have
### ROOTED SAMSUNG GT-I9100/GT-I9100T/GT-I9100G/SGH-I777 or GALAXY NEXUS DEVICE REQUIRED ###
Try: GPS Control SiRF
^ We need a better version of this app to work with more phones.
7) Some radios are better than others. This is where it gets difficult. Is there a single phone out there with open source GPS drivers? (not geeksphone afaik). The GPS code AFAIK is in the modem image, totally closed. Perhaps there's a way to generate a GPS signal to test with?
- If the worse comes to the worst you can always buy a Bluetooth GPS module to lug around and use that. I didn't have success with Cyanogenmod's built in external GPS in the settings so I used "Bluetooth GPS" on one phone and "Blue GPS" on another.
- I've heard GPS doctor (aids?) is a good app but expensive so not much use for diagnosing different phones all day. This XTRA download thing I don't fully understand.
- finally, do you know of a recent small screen phone with a good & reliable GPS?
update:
I will update this post as I find info along the way.
Basically what appears to be a big source of difficulty diagnosing errors is that there is no way to isolate the ariel as a problem. The Android API doesn't include access that low level.
from:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4250434/how-can-i-get-the-gps-raw-data-satellites-pseudo-range
Code:
Satellites pseudo-ranges are not available in the official API, neither through the GpsStatus.Listener nor the GpsStatus.NMEAListener interfaces.
The only available info available in the GpsSatellite class are:
PRN
azimuth
elevation
C/N0
a "usedInFix" boolean.
The Android source code asks just those fields from the native code, so no hope to get it from any other Java API.
The best way for you to get this data anyway (which is not suitable for a Market-able application) would be to explore Android source code, and either find a native hook to get the data at low level and access through JNI, or recompile the full OS modifying the API to your needs (you also need to find the relevant native code for that).
Finally, if you can get the chipset to send you GRS NMEA sentences (you would get them through the standard NMEAListener interface, the difficulty is configuring the chipset to send them) you can then compute the pseudo-ranges (those sentences contain satellites' residuals)
Good luck and let me know if you try any of these ideas!
update 2:
The connector on phona mainboards (assuming you have one) is "UFL". The connector on some GPS external ariels is MMCX. The bigger connectors are SMA. If you want to connect a external GPS antenna for testing without soldering you probably need a UFL to MMCX pigtail.
Plugging in UFL connected external ariels may help with diag for the various radios.
I have only 2 satelites seen on mine. I've bent the print connector up to touch the ariel a little harder but still it's a bad connection (presumably). I am thinking of ordering:
http://www.hwkitchen.com/products/mini-gps-antenna-embedded-ufl/
just to test it and confirm.
I'm guessing a magnetized NFC ariel wouldn't cause this. Removing the back (which has the NFC Ariel is) hasn't helped anyway even though the magnetometer does respond to taking the back off.
"file create fail" is what I get in trying to run the antenna test with LBSTestMode.
This hardware fix doesn't seem to be intended for the 4G but I tried it anyway:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...llly-fix-nexus-s-gps-hardware-mod-needed.html

Is there a better way to test? I'd like to see the raw data that the GPS is getting from satellites too see how it is caluculating the position but I don't think that's possible.
To help you with testing Droid VNC Server can be useful - you can then connect to your phone when it's outside over wifi while you sit in the warm. But be careful because if your wifi connection breaks I notice it then starts listening on your 3G/4G connection, open to the world.
Likewise adb screen monitor over wifi is a security risk too.
Generally the first thing to try is to clear the agps cache using gps status and then redownload it and leave it with a view of the clear sky for 20mins.

Gps issues !! Help!! Please

I was hoping to find some information about alternative methods on correcting my GPS. I know android gps is not 100% accurate and i have tried everything to get dam close but i cant seem to make any progress back to the way it was when i first flashed CM 10.2. Everything i have tried sometimes seems like it worked but later proved wrong once i actually get out and drive around.
*
Things i have tried:
1) Reload stock based rom aquire lock and revert back to current rom.
2)reload stock based rom aquire lock and reboot and clean flash 10.1/.2
3)Navigated to system/etc and edited my gps.conf
4) Used GPS ToolBox to clear a-GPS data/download a-GPS data.
*
I notice on Google maps while driving i zig-zag on the map while moving. - _ - _ - _ - kind of pattern.or somethimes i am not even in the road but infact driving through peoples houses.
*
When i load up GPS Tool box get a lock i notice something odd about my speed(mph). At idle i am consistantly moving up and down from 0.0-->0.6-->1.1 mph. My accuracy is usually <30ft while idle. Moving its all over the place. Its also hell trying to drive in Dowtown areas with one way streets. My GPS will tell me to make a right as soon as im about to make the right it quickly will tell me to goto the next street and make a left now im in the wrong lane. I tried to find a place in St Pete and i ended up in Clearwater at a simlar street name.
*
i have not tried any other Roms other than CM 10.1 10.2. I did have this same problem on 10.1 but when 10.2 was an availavble optoion i quiclky upgraded and my GPS issues were gone. Something has happened in the last week or 2 and my gps state never seems to change no matter what i do to try to correct it.
*
The only thing i did not try is flashing a new radio. I have not seen any available radios to flash if there are please point me in the right direction.
*
I also play Ingress on the side and i notice the same problems translates over the game as well. Most of the time if i stop at an intersection and load up the game or have it already open im consistantly shifting around foward/back/left/right. i cant stay still. This is where the drifting is more present. Im always shifting around drifting off the road into houses or stores or whatever is on that particlar road while driving. Alot of the times i wont even move for a few seconds and then the GPS catches up but is usually lagging behind me. For instance ill pass through an intersection and my gps will pass through the same intersection a few seconds later. I also cut corners. What i mean by this is if i make a left onto a new road instead of my gps turning with me its lagging behind and cuts the corner of the turn instead of following me on the road making the left.
*
Im not sure what else i can do. The phone has only suffered 1 drop and it was from my lap to a raised floor sitting in a booth at a restaurant. I find it hard to belive that how rugged this phone is that a single drop could jar the gps out of wack.
*
Any help would be appreciated

Does this happen on stock as well? Sounds almost like a hardware issue to me. If it's on multiple programs especially.

Yes it happens on stock and just about any ROM or app using the GPS. Have you heard of others having hardware issues? I'm still under warranty, any suggestions?

If it happens on stock rom, then it´s very, very likely a hardware issue. Try to reset everything with GPS Status from the Play Store, if it still doesn't work then make sure to be smart quick about making the most of your warranty, and get it fixed asap!

Thanks for the replies. I am the OP from droidRzr.com forums. I am currently running nexusesque and I have the same problem. No matter what ROM I flash there is no change to my GPS state. I am starting to think its a hardware problem. I have tried every GPS app and it makes no difference. Stock OEM was the worst GPS experience BY FAR which is why I rooted. Google maps always shows me off of the road while driving or stopping at an intersection I'll be in the grass or a building. GPS status shows my altitude is never solid. I live in Florida and I find incredibly hard to believe I am 200+ ft MSL sometimes 400+. Its constantly moving up and down as well as my MPH alternates between 0.0-2.9 MPH while sitting stationary. I might might have to unroot and return the phone. I feel there is no fix due to it being a hardware problem. I will try a few more things but I think they will yield the same results.

It´s a hardware issue because of a faulty unit most likely, if it´s happening with the Stock ROM. This phone has one of the most accurate GPS units I´ve ever had in any phone. This was taken, for example, at 34,000 feet going at 600 miles per hour. Check it out:

Well quick update.I reloaded my cm10.2 10/28 nightly which is the ROM/release I had the best luck with and I removed every app that requires GPS permissions( i did have a few) and it has seemed to improve it slightly. Not sure if it's the placebo effect or what. I am however locking on to more available SATS then I previously was( 5-8 out of about 21 SATs). Now locking on to about 11-14 SATs. My altitude is still jumpy though and my mph still fluctuates but not as bad. The gps signal strength has also seemed to improve. My error is usually around 10m. I'll give it a few more days and see what happens.
Sent from my XT926 using xda premium
Well i let it run for a few days and it's back to what it was doing before. I'm just going to drop root and get a replacement. This has to be a hardware problem there is no other explanation to why the GPS can't track my location. I zig zag on and off the road.
Sent from my XT926 using xda premium
I took some screenshots in 1 to 2 second intervals of me standing in my driveway. One is me driving with the app scanner open(as you can see im not even on the road). As you can see my elevation is non stop climbing. Speed seems stable(except the pic i lose a bunch of aval. SATS). This is running the Pac-Man roms latest nightly. I start at 6 MSL and climb all the way up to 42MSL and i begin to lose locked SATS. Note 1 picture my speed is 1.1 MPH and im standing totally still. Even when i think its working properly i am proven WRONG once i start driving. The zig zaging begins to show. Stop at an intersection my GPS just keeps moving. This i think is due to my elevation not being stable. Then begins the MPH dance of 0.6 up to 1.1 and back down. Its completely unstable
GPS Compass on CM11 appear to not be working
Hi,
I was hoping to post it directly in the Android Development CM11 thread but my post count is too low at the moment.
I've tried installing CM11 twice now, full factory reset/wipe. It appears that the compass was completely disabled - no direction indicator on Google Maps, just location dot. No dynamic direction control on Ingress.
Has anyone else noticed any compass issues on AOSP 4.4 based ROMs or CM11 in particular?
Regards,
Marek

[GUIDE](LG STYLO)GPS Woes? Look Here!(Root Required)

Hello Fellow XDA'ers!
Please read through the entire post BEFORE doing anything. Disclaimer: I take no responsibility If you screw up your phone.
This is my first time posting a guide so please bear with me. If you are reading this, chances are you are faced with the same problem I had-Horrible GPS lock and/or constant "GPS signal lost". Well, lets fix that!
You will need:
Your phone rooted
A small piece of paper/thin cardboard.
ES File Explorer or some other root file explorer app
FasterGPS app
Patience
1st Step:
First, let's see If the FasterGPS by itself will fix your issue. Your phone must be rooted. Install app. Go to your root file explorer app. You want to backup your current gps.conf file just in case (The reviews for this app in the Play Store said that it does a bad job of backing up your conf file). The gps.conf file is located in the etc folder in the root of the device. Back it up to a safe place. Follow the directions that the app tells you to do. After that restart your phone. Test it out and see if that fixed it.....
You: OK, Smart Alec that didn't work...
2nd Step(If the first step didn't work)
Let's try the next step. It appears that some Stylo's suffer from a similar problem that the LG G2's did. The contacts for the gps antenna don't make good contact with antenna on back. (see attached pic). Next to the upper right-right hand corner of battery is the phone contacts for the NFC/GPS antenna. On the back cover is the actual antenna. If you look closely you'll notice there's a white piece of thin cardboard underneath the contacts to the antenna. This helps lift the antenna to make better contact. see this thread for more infohttp://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/gps-constantly-signal-t3256710( special thanks to @bobbytables).
Hopefully, this will fix your GPS problem. I get a GPS lock now less than 5 secs!
PS. I actually did this in reverse. I fixed the antenna first then used the app.

PPS: After more research, I found that this fix has mixed results. It either works 90-100% better or not at all. If you are the latter, then you have a hardware issue that can't be fixed. I can't recall where the post was but there's supposedly a date on the hardware that lets you know which batch you have. Some batches are bad. A complaining call to TMobile will get them to send you another phone. It's still a gamble though.

Didn't bother with 1 and went straight to #2.
WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.
*IMO this should be moved to Stylo forum... Hard to fin but there is one.
Edit:
The gps locks on but doesn't follow. Every ago often the gps will lock I correctly but out it's better than before. Will try method1when I have time.

That sucks... It is a metro PCS but I bought 2nd hand. I do not have a Metro PCS account.
I still have not rooted and will try it when I have time. Weird thing is that I took the gps/nfc sticker off and the gps still locks on but does not follow. It usually stays still and catches up after a block walking. Then it does the same thing.

Rooting and rewriting the gps.conf file is your only hope. If you can, try to put the antenna back on. There's a guy selling a Stylo on CL here for $60 but the GPS is wonky on that one too.

P30 GPS/Location Problem

Hi Everyone
I've had a Huawei P30 for about 3 months now and apparently I can't use the GPS. I have tried Google Maps
and Navigator and both only updates my location every few minutes.
I used GPS Status and according to it I only get 2 satellites IF I'm lucky. Most of the time I don't get any.
I tested GPS Status with another Huawei P Smart phone and it picks up about 10-15 satellites.
I have tried and checked everything except factory resetting the phone. Does anyone else
have this problem? Is there a fix?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I used to use this app to check how many satellites I could see
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest
Also which case are you using, possible the case is blocking the GPS radio, try without a case

I am using the case that came with the phone.
I tried the app you suggested, this is what I get:
https://youtu.be/QLYWeGv9xFE
First minute is without the case and second minute is with the case.

Actually seems slightly better with the case, it is locating you within 18m which isn't terrible but no lock
Indoors will obviously be worse, and cloudy days can cause problems too
Make sure you have all the high accuracy location settings enabled too, WiFi/BT (In settings search for "Scanning") and location high accuracy enabled in the location setting itself (Location access > Google location Accuracy)

Other things I have tried was disabling any and all power saving options. Even tried it on Performance Mode. Still the same issue.
The signal is much worse when driving. It literally only updates when I'm standing still.

Not having owned this phone very long I'm out of ideas of what else to try other than a reset now, and if it's still the same after a reset I'd return it as faulty and get a replacement, possible it's hardware related if the antenna is damaged

So I first tried Safe Mode. Was a waste of time seeing as I can't use any app to test the gps.
After that I factory reset the phone. Unfortunately the issue persists. So guess I'll be sending
the phone back.
Thanks for all your help

Good luck hope the replacement works properly :good:
I have had very similar, and very strange issue on my new Oneplus 7. In my case (probably) helps when I switched to another SIM card and next come back to my original one.
