MAXX Upgrade - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone found the upgrade kits to convert to the MAXX HD? Pretty sure it should just be a MAXX HD back/battery like exists for the standard RAZR/MAXX but I have not found it.

I swear the HD is only 2500 mah while the original max and new max are 3300

You're right. The old maxx and the new maxx have the 3300 battery. I have had both and I know lol.

Well my bad, my parts suppliers had the EB40 listed under the XT925, i assumed it was using a EB40. I'd still like to see a razr maxx hd teardown

Any update on this

I am positive I saw a conversion to maxx in the portal a while ago. Maybe check there?

Just out of curiosity, why are you considering a DIY upgrade route, instead of just selling your existing device (as used) and buying a Razr HD Maxx (used)?
Current market rate for a used Droid Razr HD is ~$350 - $400. Current market rate for a Droid Razr HD Maxx is ~$450 - $500.
The problem with a DIY upgrade is that you can't get warranty support / replacement in case anything goes wrong. And if something does go wrong with your device, it is likely a problem that cannot be easily repaired as an inexpensive DIY repair (e.g. the likely problems will be a motherboard dying, or a screen that needs replacing).

+1 to that, considering how new the phone is and how likely it is to ruin something, its a terrible idea IMO. Just spend the extra cash for the bigger battery if you need more than a day* worth of usage per charge (*my HD under heavy use) I literally paid $200 for a $700 phone and would **** a brick if I made the slightest mistake hard modding it and it was a brick ( gives me the shivers to think about going from a $700 handheld PC to a $80 quick replacement )
Droid RAZR HD (current)
LG Optimus One P-504 (For Sale)

I agree, your best option would probably be to sell your HD and buy yourself a Maxx HD and bite the bullet on the little extra you would spend. At least that way you can keep some warranty on the device.
Also, since the backing is carbon fiber, it may be a little while before another company decides to make a replacement panel that fits. You could always try searching for a broken Maxx HD and scavenge parts

Teardown contains both the HD and MAXX HD.

I think the rationale behind a DIY upgrade is because we have the Razr HD in Canada operating on 2600MHz GSM LTE and the Verizon Droid Razr Maxx HD is CDMA LTE only and only a USA item. Other then the battery and rear cover the Droid Razr Maxx HD is useless for LTE speeds in Canada or elsewhere.
I know that's why I'm looking for an upgrade kit or used/broken Maxx HD phone.

Exactly. We don't have a MAXX version here in Canada. And we have an unlocked bootloader. Why not have the best of both?

Motorola does release some really nice phones...
I had tow bad experiences with android phone (due to bad support),the LG GW620 and this ATRIX2.
but in the LG case, bad official support was case of bad/old hardware components (GW620 was the 1st LG android phone).but in my case now with ATRIX2,the hardware platform can considered one of the top mobiles in 2012 and almost the best in 2011,but Motorola has the stupid strategy follows the crap LG.
i think this is the end (for me) with android (and symbian^3 too),maybe WP will be my next deal.
I do genuinely love Motorola products! lol
Thanks again guys!

Yeah they got it just two days ago... I was on the fence for a long time as a hardcore Lapdock user... but lapdock on the atrix 2 was never perfect for me, mainly because the bottom bar never got hidden and went fullscreen (not even in gallery app).
This is what the AHD has going for itself now:
RAZR MAXX 3300mah battery mod
Unlike RAZR HD series, non pentile 720p, and ability to set dpi lower now for lapdock.
Possibility of this working, so you can screen off. (Because otherwise its mirror mode.)
I'm panning to disable the onscreen buttons, and using a software like Button saviour, to hide buttons when I dont need them, (mainly in lapdock).
Getting official JB
White color!
Cheap! I have to throw about $70 ontop of what I can sell my atrix 2 for to get it on ebay.

[Q] Dropped Razr HD Maxx and Broke LCD

I was in the gym the other day and I dropped my Razr HD Maxx from about waist height. It fell flat on the screen and when I picked it up the screen was completely inoperable. I noticed that the LCD was spider-webbed cracked from the right side bezel. I will try to take some pictures of it. Anyway I took it into Verizon and they basically told me that the LCD break was not a known issue and is not covered under manufacture warranty. That pissed me off because the thing is in mint condition besides the screen. Anyway I was wondering if I should send it into Asurion and get a replacement for 99$ or try to get the screen replaced elsewhere. Sorry for the long post, it's 5 in the morning and I am just sick of using my backup iPhone 4. Any advice would be highly appreciated!
That sucks! I feel your pain!
I waited and waited for asurion to get the maxx hd in stock. Before you decide anything you'll want to check to see if they're even available. Otherwise you could purchase at full retail from Vzw and they will reimburse you.
Most of the places in chicago have screen deals but only for gs3 and Iphones. I would just Google cell phone repair screen replacement +"the name of your city here".
When pricing my repair for a gnex it was fifty dollars cheaper to just file a claim.

I can buy it from Verizon and Asurion will reimburse me?! Where and how can I do this? That would be a total lifesaver! They said they
are out of the Razr Maxx HD and I will have to wait up till a week or they can give me the GS3 or the old Razr. I am about to take the GS3 but
if I can get the Maxx, I would much rather that!
Thanks!

You'll have to call corporate and ask them what options there are. Asurion is great but even on a waiting list is no guarantee. It's just notification that stock is available. So you could get an email saying they're available and by the time you call... Pooof all gone.
Don't take a gs3. They are garbage. Screen will break too easily and touch wiz is terrible.
Just reiterate you need the battery life and a gs3 doesn't compare.

Dang! I wish I had seen this earlier! I just called and got them to send a Razr HD instead of the Maxx. I have my cracked LCD Maxx left over anyway and I can sell it for parts AKA the maxx battery or housing.
They sent me the non maxx RAZR too, but I swapped the screens with my maxx. Cheaper than buying a new screen out right.

Wow I never even though of doing that. That's genius on your part. I would probably screw up the screen swap though :/ and the ESN is blacklisted :/

Looking for a "No Frills" Dev Tablet

I really don't care if it even has a camera on it, I just need Android 4.3.
4.3 is an absolute must. All the rest, including anything over 16GB will just be a waste.
Know any tablets that fit this bill?

Have a look at the nexus 7.. If you want to save a few dollars, the 2012 version is decent, and you'll be able to find a good price used too.
Yep - find a decent used Nexus.

Droid Maxx HD soon?

They release the current model with lower spec and maybe 6 months later we have all the features we were hoping for in an HD model.
I am ready to go get this phone now but I'd imagine they will(Moto) come out with the higher grade product not long after this current model.
Thoughts?

That was a concern for me as well, seeing as how release-happy Moto has been in the past (specifically Droid 3 --> Droid 4).
But how I see it, the Razr --> Razr HD transition, we saw a different design and better screen, mainly. I wasn't happy with their 720p decision on the 2013 Droids, but after looking at it in the store, it didn't bother me. So if they choose to release a 1080p update, I probably won't care too much unless the design of the device is amazing. I doubt Motorola would create a battery that's like 3800-4000mAH, and the battery life is just fine right now. Same for the camera - I doubt Motorola will actually release an amazing camera...
Not sure what else they would add that would make me want it. MicroSD maybe?
I don't forsee this at all. Droid-brand releases are going to slow now that Google has ahold of them. More likely to see a Moto X refresh in ~6-9 months I think than Droid line.... Plus your "HD" question, this already is the HD version, its just not in the title. You probably mean FHD :silly:
I believe Motorola fulfilled their contract with Verizon to manufacture the Droids. These were the last set

You can't assume moto's past records with the new Google/Moto. Case in point is the fact that motoblur no longer exists... Thanks to Sundar and team.
Google has already improved on the camera hardware. In actuality, the hardware for the camera is pretty nice... The software needs some work on to match the hardware reqs.

So, hopefully that means that there won't be a 1080p version of these phones in 3 months.

[Q] Flashing Verizon Moto X firmware on the Ultra / MAXX

saw a thread on the Moto X forum on how to flash back to stock using RSD Lite (link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446515&page=3&nocache=1 ). The example was done using the Verizon version. I was wondering if it would be possible to flash it to the Ultra / MAXX after making a few mods. It would be like tricking it into running a custom rom. I have the MAXX. There are a few hardware differences to be considered as well as the model name and such in the build.prop .
wireless charging - MAXX only.
hardware navigation keys - i don't care for them. this is actually my main motivation to do this.
screen size - although they are the same resolution the on screen nav buttons may play a part in this.
battery size - don't know if there is any config needed.
some others i may be missing.
possibly use the kernel side stuff from the Ultra / MAXX firmware and the ROM side stuff for the OS to solve most of these.
ill download them both and do a file compare. there should be little difference.
I am a SysAdmin / Linux Nerd and have been flashing and hacking since the HTC Evo but have little experience modding ROMs. I will most likely be set on fire for this idea.
If u have a unlocked DE Maxx, u can try flashing the Moto X ROMs through CWM(ie after having a nandroid backup)! I tried the 4.3 eng ROM on Moto X forums and it works right outa the box without any modifications!! :good:
interesting...soo now all we have to hope for is for the bootloader to be unlocked on the regular Maxx/Ultra...and we can flash 4.3! LOL sooo excited
To my understanding the phone he flashed was a Verizon Moto X and not an unlocked one.

Some of the bloatware is different. The Maxx has capacitive control buttons, the X has onscreen buttons. The X comes with 2 years of some big amount of Google Drive storage, the Maxx comes with 6 months free Google Music All Access instead. (Maybe the X has All Access too?) The X has NFC unlocking in addition to trusted Bluetooth, while the Maxx does not.
Otherwise, they're the same.
