My samsung infuse randomly shuts off when I plug my phone in to the charger. But it's not consistent. It only happens every once in awhile. It shuts off and then the charging screen won't even show the battery. It will show something like a circle indicating that it's loading and that screen will just keep blinking on and off, as soon as I unplug it the phone powers on. I am using a third-party battery but I also still have the original. I don't know if it does it with the original battery as well. But I will start paying to keep track now.
Try the stock battery.
But also try another charging / USB cable. Maybe a short in the cable you have. Let us know your results

Your not alone in this, i'm having same issue with an infuse i'm trying to sell. i found out that if i press the powerbutton like repeatedly around 5 to 10 times while the circle indicator is showing, the phone will display the green battery charging. I'm on stock firmware too and i believe this may be due to the power button or faulty powerbutton.
since switching back to the original battery that came with the phone I have not experienced any "random power off's" Thanks for the tip.

I am having a similar issue. After bricking my phone, I returned it to stock, used Heimdahl to get the Gingerbread deodexed and rooted version UCLB3 and added the Adrenaline Injector Tweak and the phone is working Terrific. Faster than I would have imagined. I do not have a rom flashed as I am happy with the debloated stock version. However, for whatever reason it shuts down randomly while I am not using it and I then have to plug it into a charger and wait for the on screen battery appears and disappears to turn the phone back on. This occurred when I returned it to stock and continues now. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions or solutions? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Like I posted above I was using an after-market battery. Since changing back to the original battery that came with the phone I have not experienced anymore random shutdowns. Are you using an after-market battery by any chance??

No sir. I am using the battery that came with the phone.

Re: [Q] AT&T Samsung Infuse 4g randomly shutting off
The only thing I can think of, is it has something to do with the adrenaline tweak you say you added to it. My reasoning us because I am also using deodexed stock/rooted ROM just without the tweak and do not encounter this problem. you used option c from the XDa website am I right? If do it's the same one I'm on now. I'd start from scratch and re download everything fresh and reroot the phone try it for a couple days without the tweak and see if that solves the issue then add the tweak and if it starts up again you know whats causing it. That's just what I'd do. I hope this helps
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
I think Oreo is right. Adrenaline tweak will do that.
Use a root tool like root explorer or adb and delete the /etc/init.d folder or the content.
If you have cwm recovery, flash zen tool kit, remove tweak and apply light tweak.
Re: [Q] AT&T Samsung Infuse 4g randomly shutting off
Thanks for the feed back. Had to try it out for the whole day. I swapped batteries with my son who also had an Infuse and I am happy to say that I have not had the issue in 24hours and nor has he. Thanks for chiming in because these will be steps that I will try if it occurs again.

I've had my G2X for about a month, and have been experiencing the common issue where my phone randomly shuts off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to pull the battery.
I've installed the GB update, that didn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue on their phone? If so, what'd you do? Is there any chance that rooting my phone would correct the problem?
Sorry if there was a post about this, I couldn't find anything talking about if anyone's been able to fix the problem.
Thanks
yes... the onlyhh way to fix the problem is to root! nvflash clock work mod recovery, then flash eagle blood 2.3.3 rom and it is perfect...
Thanks, this did indeed seems to do the trick. Not a single reboot so far after 2.5 days.

My G2X actually restarted on its own today. It was the first time since the first few days I had the phone over a month-month and a half ago. Wasn't really a big deal, lol. It comes back on.
Have been playing with this phone for 3 days now and haven't had any issues (I did install xboarder's stock rooted version). Minor screen bleed is the only issue.

Finally, someone (dmaniscool) who can say they switched to an xda dev'ed ROM and got rid of the lock ups. I've posted many times asking if anybody ACTUALLY FIXED a problem (specifically the battery pull lock up); I got no responses, and someone finally stated it. Great. Next time my wife's G2x locks up, I'm rooting and putting a ROM on it.
Thank you dmaniscool

so, PLEASE dmaniscool, occasionally update this thread with your lack of lock-ups, or if you get a lock-up. PLEASE!!!

Will do, so far so good! I had no experience with rooting, and was able to figure it out looking at the guides available on the forum. It kind of looks intimidating, but it's not actually very difficult.
By restart does everyone mean just shuts down? Mine never restarts, it will just shut off.

Mine did both actually, shut down and restarts. But mostly just shut downs, which required a battery pull to power back on.
My 2 will do both - but I think the "shut-off" is a lock up, because the longer I leave it locked up, the less battery I'll have after I do a battery pull.
8 days of both phones not locking up by doing one restart per day per phone.
Since I raised the minimum CPU speed to 389 from 216, I have far fewer sleeps of death
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
I've tried every ROM and kernel combination possible and nothing actually fixes these problems for me.
Wow this post was scary at first, I had a thunderbolt and no matter what. RUU, Different ROMS, Stock, Kernels, Radios. Changing all that didn't matter it still turns off constantly and doesn't turn back on till I do it meaning no text or calls, basically same as having a phone on silent all the time without even having the luck chance of pulling it out while ringing.....
I am on miui x.26 (whatever kernal that comes with it) and have over 40 hours of uptime. I haven't had a crash yet, I just manually restart every couple of days because I'm weird like that.
Sent from my LG-P999
Well 6 days into it and I've had a total of 2 shutdowns. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but both times were after being outside when it was ~90 degrees out.
This is still much improved, I used to get 3-4 per day on average.
I'm using Eaglesblood 2.3.3. I'm thinking of trying MIUI because it's so nice looking.
For me I did a battery replacement the first time directly from T-Mobile and the phone continued restarting on me. I was just about to request a replacement phone from T-Mobile until I recently purchased a different brand of battery containing the same specs as the stock battery and to my surprise no overheating and definitely no restarts. I feel that the restarts and lockups are due to faulty batteries shipped out with the phones. I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

Wow, I told the CostCo kiosk girl I was having lock up problems and I had my grandkids with me. She took my phone and pulled the battery - at the same time my grandson stated he had to go to the bathroom NOW. She either looked at the battery or something on the phone under the battery. I didn't have time to ask. She didn't really comment and gave me my phone back.
Hmmmmmm........

ok so do they know what exactly is causing the shut downs or reboot on this phone? i just got mine today and it was pre installed with gingerbread and idk if there is root for the gingerbread build yet. i just want root but no custom rom for me. i love the stock rom. it kicked the crap out of my sensation 4g as far as speed goes in everyday use.
Hi guys, my SGR is 2 weeks old now and occasionally it randomly shuts down.. mostly at night. The phone only restarted after taking out the battery and putting it back in. Also, after turning on, there was a 30% fall in battery. The battery usage shows a vertical drop which doesn't make sense. Wifi and mobile data was off. I'm using 2.3.5 India rom.
Anyone else having same issue?

Here are your usual options:
-This is a known issue for which it would be best to take your cell to the service centre.
-Or there is a second option to flash your phone by Odin using the stock firmware. Its a simple & painless procedure if you are savvy enough to do it.
Hope it Helps.
So, while I'm no expert I'm not new to rooting and flashing. Did it quite a bit on my older Droid Inc 1, and have performed a few on my new SG3.
I have 3 backed up ROMs on my SD, Synergy, Beans and CM10. I was running Synergy and decided to give CM10 another shot to see if I could figure out what was killing NFC. So, flashed it up with ROM Manager (Used Odin previously) and everything went swimmingly. ROM was running, NFC was working, all my apps were reinstalled, no problems.....
Decided to see if I could get Wallet working on this install, so flashed it in, made the changes to build.prop and rebooted.
Heeerreeee's where the trouble started. Part way through the reboot the phone just shut down. Completely. 100%. Dead.
I had 87% battery when I started so it 'shouldn't be a battery problem. No power, no LED when I plug in the charger, no vol-up, home, power to get into recovery.
One interesting thing did happen while I was trying to get the phone up, I removed the battery for a bit, and plugged the USB cable in and got a red charging light. Put the battery back in, light still there. 1 minute later, light goes off and still nothing happening with the phone at all.
Anyone have any ideas beyond all the stuff I've given a shot to?

Have you tried borrowing someone's battery to see if you can also least boot? I have four samsung batteries for the S3 and would consider sending it to you before getting a replacement. I think the cost of a battery is $3 on Amazon.

The reasons were different but i had the same thing happen to me, my phone wouldn't boot, wouldn't show up in the computer. Nothing, i tried my wife's battery, no change there either. I left it on the charger overnight and tried turning it on in the morning and after messing with it it came back on. Haven't had an issue since. Don't know what caused it, the phone just freaked out, turned off and wouldn't turn back on.
You can also try the resistor trick to see if that will bring your phone back. Here is a cheap way to do it.
http://hackaday.com/2012/09/03/saving-a-bricked-phone-with-a-pencil-lead/ Otherwise you can go to radio shack and pick up a resistor.
If Verizon sends you your phone back cause you messed with it, there is a brick repair service for like $60 bucks PM for the link if it comes to that.
Congrats on the new phone

hehe.. I can't say I was pleased with having to go that route, (can't stand being defeated by electronics) but all in all I can't imagine a simple software change causing the entire unit to just go dead. Not booting properly, or locking up and such, sure... but not just dead.
By this morning I had tried another battery (a friend has an SG3 also) to no effect, but I didn't try leaving it plugged in overnight. I did check the battery with an external charger I have and it was showing fully charged....
So, I'll get a replacement and stay away from CM10 at the very least.
**ihavenewnike - Not sure why you're on an android developers forum really...
Ok, so the new phone got here at about 12:30. Plugged all my stuff into it and it fired right up.
Rooted and unlocked it, put my latest Synergy backup (1 day old) on the SD card and restored it.

Same thing happened to me when I tried to mess with the NFC hack on my SGS III.
What saved me was a USB Jig I happened to have handy when I...accidentally... soft bricked a friend's Samsung Captivate a few months back. The USB Jig is used to put the SGS III into download mode when all else fails that tiny little gadget saves the day.

I have looked into those and will most likely make one very soon. (I think I have everything I'd need, just may need to cobble some resistors together).
Couple of things I noticed throughout this 'process', regarding the CM10 (9-15 nightly) ROM, NFC and google wallet....
At first install of CM10 I noticed that NFC was active and working normally. It could read my tags without issue. After Wallet was installed though, NFC disappeared. It wasn't just disabled, it simply wasn't there any more. It was after noticing this that I decided to reboot, at which point my original problem started.
The reboot never came close to completing though, it shut down before it actually made it to the 'boot' phase, as in, while it was shutting down.
The actual cause of the power off is still a mystery to me, as I can't see a simple app change causing hardware failure.
So you bricked your phone, just like a few of us did yesterday.
What did you call Verizon saying in order for them to send you a new phone?

I told them what happened, just left out a few bits of info.
"I rebooted it, and it never came back on." and that was that.
Nice.
I should have gone that method, but ended up paying for the repair service from MobileTechVideos

"I decided to buy a new battery from Amazon which didn't cost that very much. My phone is back to normal so it was my battery I'm guessing like the battery exploded because it felt all lumpy & stuff."
** Thank you everyone who left suggestions & answers to help me with my problem much appreciated! **
Okay I've recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S 4G for about 2 weeks now & I am currently having some problems with my phone. I'm not sure if its my phone or the ROMs that I am flashing. The problem that I am having is that when I'm using my phone that has a full battery my phone just shuts off completely. I turn it back in on the battery is almost dying so I charge the phone. When its done charging I unplug it & continue to use my phone, but for some reason it keeps turning off on me. I can't use my phone at all because of this the only way I can use my phone is if its plugged in to charge. I thought maybe it was the ROM that I am using which was Valhalla FINAL so I flashed it again & I get the same result. So, I decided to download a different ROM which was HebrewValhalla3.5_AROMA & guess what I get the same result. I really want to use my phone, but I can't so if someone can please help I would really appreciate it very much!
So what do you think could be the problem is it the ROMs that I am flashing or what? Please give me some tips & what ROMs do you recommend? I really need anyone's help...Thanks

It's the battery.
Battery.....can buy em all day long @Amazon.com for $5.00
It can't be the battery because it works normal when my phone is not rooted
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Its not the battery my phone works fine when it isn't rooted.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
So you unrooted it and it works fine now?
Yeah it works fine like normal when it isn't rooted, but when I root it again it does the same thing
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Well if you really wanna find where the problem is, assuming it's not the battery, try running on stock unrooted for a day, then flash just a rooted kernel, and then try a full rom.
Okay I will try that, but what would you recommend I'm kinda new to this stuff.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
You should read this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G
I would have to say its not Valhalla final because i am running it with no problems. I have 1day 12hrs 35mins on a single charge. With 38% left on battery. Simply rooting your phone would not cause massive battery issues. Gotta be something more going on.
just wanted to chime in. i was having the same issue, but my sgs4g has been rooted with froyo 2.2.1 since i took it to a guy to root it for me(i had bricked my first one ha!) when KD1 was still the thang. and just a few months ago i started having this problem out of no where, just as used described it op, except i haven't been flashing anything on or off it, and i thought it had to do with a shetty app i had installed. i put a 'new' battery in and had the same issue, eventually the new battery(which was a very sensitive 1500mAh i bought for $20 at a local phone spot) blew up when a gf sat on me while it was in my pocket. the batteries seem really sensitive, there's a warning label to not apply pressure to the battery and it's easy to do with the sgs4g. anyway i went out and bought a 900mAh from best buy for 40 bucks :"""( but it works fine now. battery slowly creeps to zero like its supposed to. i haven't flashed anything or changed anything app-wise, still rooted.
when i was having this problem i also found that there's a battery calibration app for when you flash a new rom, but it didn't help me. worth a shot when you flash a new rom though i reckon.
hope that helps!
Sensitive? Really? Lmao
That's a load of crap.
I have 4 batteries that i charge on a continuous basis with an external charger and 2of them have been thru hell and back and still work as good as new. And for your info battery calibration apps do nothing good for your battery.
I'm not saying they don't go bad cuz I've had several that have....but sensitive? I'm not buyin that.
I am an ironworker and keep my extra batteries in my pocket all day every day and always have one in the charger.
As for rooting your phone causing the battery problems.....not buyin that either....that my friend is in your head....or there's more to it than your telling us.
I have an o3d that has a battery percentage problem it displays what it wants when it wants. Such as 70% one minute an 5 mins later its gone to 0% and shut down making it useless unless on charge. It is not a bad battery as i have 7 various batterys that work fine in my other o3d. I have tried the battery calibration apps which delete battery stats .bin and big surprise it did nothing. So i used link to sd to freeze power off
.apk and now my phone stays turned on even when at 0%! This does cause a couple of problems though such as going through usual shutdown precedure only reboots phone (i dont mind though this is handy to reboot). If you reboot whilst percentage is low it wont restart without inserting charger. Phone can still be turned off by holding power button for approx 10 seconds. The worst problem is when 0% is reached the status bar usually force closes (which is a real pain using android without status bar). And camera and a few apps wont work as battery is always low but at least i can use phone. I have learnt so much from xda so i thaught i would share this in case it can help someone. Please share if this was helpfull and if you have any tips on how to fix errors caused by this.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
And also if anyone knows what may be causing my problem in the first place any help would be greatly appreciated. I have already tried a re flash of standard rom and a couple of different custom gb roms. And a custom kernal. I am currently trying to work out how to flash ics to try and fix this properly. I do not know how this problem first occured as i brought this phone off ebay second hand. The problem first occured when this phone was unlocked so i was told. I did notice that even though it was sold as o3d and the sticker on the back confirmed this, that it said p925 in about phone not p920. Not sure if this is related. So again if you have an un-usable phone i hope the above can help you out. And thanks again to anybody that could help fix this once and for all.
