Directory Bind for Camera Fix (et al.) - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

This is a thread for talking about the Directory Bind app. that is originally for the SGS II but works with the Blaze to move Camera photos (and other files) to the external SD card.
Original app thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
Use this thread for discussion.
Tips:
(1) The Data and Target sources are inverted. This is really confusing. Just treat them as opposites.
Data= where you want the files to be stored
Target= where you want the files coming from.
(2) The app doesn't like the use of /storage or /mnt it wants us to use /external_sd and /sdcard
It looks like things are working now. Remember to backup your database.

Thanks, works. I couldn't get it to work before I had confused the source and data. Thank you for the nice layout of information.

I keep getting the red bind failed. Any idea on what went wrong?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app

Actually, I ended up deleting it was not working for me, still saved in internal memory. Maybe I did something wrong though if you state it works
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769

I got it working =D. When you open the internal folder up top it shows the external SD card memory. Its confusing but you can get the hang of it.

LOL and the kicker...
Just showing what's possible. Good day ya'll.
Edit; After further thought (considering all the discussion on the topic). Everyone seems to think of the source and target as being reversed. This is because most look at directory bind's functions from a "write to" perspective. Whereas in the simlink and "read from" perspective, this labeling of source and target makes perfect sense.

[Q] Using microSD for application and data external storage

I've been looking the past day, at threads for the new Tab 2 7.0 and other devices, and I'm lost. I was able to use windows to create the 2 partitions for my microsd and use Link2SD to attempt to move apps to the SD, but it still doesn't work.
I'm honestly most concerned of apps like Rdio, where the music that is saved offline is currently taking up valuable internal storage and not on my microsd.
Is this going to be possible? I am rooted, running stock ROM. Thanks!
Stock ROM does not have move2sd capability AFAIK. I think we'll have ot wait for a custom rom.
From what i herd The storage is emulate (sdext) So maby there's a was to redirect or combinevforvmore storage
p-3113 Puff, Puff, Puff,...... just sende'n smoke signals
you can use an app called directory Bind
Moved to Q&A section....place all questions in the proper sections.
Thanks

Thanks for pointing out these app, never heard of it. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work for my scenario (Rdio synced music). I can setup the directories (bind them) but then Rdio won't sync music.
I am in the same boat as you slopokdave I want to use the external for Rdio.
I guess I will have to root my device and figure out a why from there.. I am just stuck as I use mac and there is still no method to do so with it :/
I found a app that works. It's called GL to sd. I think your tab have to be rooted. This app is free on the market.

How to save to sdcard?

I can access the card with root explorer. I can see media on it. But i cant save to it on some apps. Apps that capture pics or save stuff..in options allows you to choose directory you want to save in. But it stays in internal storage only.
I cant go up to main system root directory to choose the external card for a folder location...
Is there a way to do it?

From what I've read it has to do with the way ICS handles everything which sucks not the phone itself. If I had known that only certain apps like the camera can save content to the external sd card I would've bought the 32gb version of the S3. Instagram saves to internal memory and so does Evernote which is going to turn into a hassel quickly for me and a lot of people.
Look in the Galaxy SII forums for an app called Directory Bind. I think I read somewhere else it's working on the GS3...

Games external data to external sd card?

Hello, this might not be the newest thing, but it can be something bothering and inconvenient. In fact, when you have some very large games such as Real Racing 2and GTA Vice City that requires external data (about 1 or 2GB), you certainly don't want to save it on the internal storage. And unlike the regular app data that you can back up to the external SD card with Titanium backup, you can not back up to the external data to the SD card. Therefore, you need some apps such as Directory bind and GL to SD that bind the directory of the external data in the internal sd to the external one. BUT there are common issues with th these apps for me. In fact, I found that these apps are not actually binding the directory of the data to the new one, but they are just copying them to a new place while leaving the original one in the original place. Therefore, when I deleted the original data and relaunch the game, it doesn't run since I think that the game still relies on the data in the old location that I deleted instead of those in the new one. Here are the links to the pages in which the issues which Directory Bind and GL TO SD will be explained in detail
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39383603#post39383603) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39383533#post39383533). So, did I do anything wrong or do i need to follow any specific instruction to do it right or do you have any recommendations for the alternative apps that do the same task better. Any suggestion would be helpful.

I have the same problem with DirectoryBind not moving files. It merely copies it, like in your situation. GL to SD won't work on my Optimus S with CM9/stock CM9 kernel.
Check this thread on FolderMount out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39178981
I am actually trying to get to 10 posts to pm the FM dev, because I have the same problem of not being able to MOVE /data subdirectories from internal to external (FM only does /data subs, not /data itself). I can't move ANY directories, regardless of whether it's a /data sub or otherwise, only copy. You may have better luck with your setup.

Yes, this is correct.
I have yet to find a way to actually move /data or its subs. FM was the closest hit, since the dev states it allows for movement of /data subdirectories. However, until I can PM the dev/post in Dev threads, it will not work on my setup. Not sure why, as other posters have stated they were able to move /data/[xxx]. Directorybind does the same thing as FM, but will not move /data, although I have not scanned the ~180 page thread to see if it will move subs.
How about reversing the storage........ U can make external(64 gb) as internal and internal(16gb) as ext. Have look at this, i think i tried to help u: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036796:)

Mmm, you're right, same problem arises, plus it couldn't even let you set up more then 3 directories.

Exactly, I used same solution. External sd card I have mounted as internal, Just change it in void.fstab, you need to have your phone rooted.

Have you seen evidence this app will work with a non-Sammy rom?
Yes, I would like to do that.

Directory Bind on newer phone?

Hello, can anyone explain to me how Directory Bind app actually works? In fact, in the app, I have no idea of why the default source directory is always the external SD card (instead of the internal SD by logic). Also, have anyone here actually get this app work on Note 2 since all the videos of demonstration of the app I saw online were done on those very old Gingerbread phones.

Symlink to external Micro SD

Hi. I'm on a rooted Nexus 5, stock ROM and kernel. I have a Micro USB SD card reader and since I have many GBs of music I'd like to put the music on the SD card (which is mounted on the device using StickMount) and then symlink it to the internal memory so that I can play it using Google Play Music and other apps. How can I do that? Thank you.

Look here for info https://www.google.nl/search?q=goog...7&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8.
The problem is Google play music only looks in the music directory for songs.
Also you cannot create symlinks in the fused sdcard.
You could try the following in a terminal emulator.
(Note you may have to change the following paths as I can't remember the exact path stickmount mounts your device to)
Code:
mount -o bind /sdcard/music/sd /sdcard/usbdisk/sda1
This should create a folder called sd in the music folder which Google play music is looking in. It should be then linked to your mounted storage in stick mount.
But beware this may crash your phone when you remove the card requiring a reboot.

Have you tested this? The reason I ask is that unless something has changed which I don't know about, this will not be possible. Since 4.2, Google changed how android handles mounts and this is no longer possible with root (root does not have elevated enough permissions).
Hence why I created this script back in the 4.2 days:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178863
*Note, I no longer support that script so do NOT use it...
...which in turn lead to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122
I myself use FolderMount as it works well and scripts are just a bit too clunky (hence why I ceased working on and supporting my script).
The only issue is you will need to move everything in your current music folder (which foldermount will do nicely for you) so you must always have your external media with you to play music. You cannot simply expand your current folder, its all or nothing (unless you can mount a subfolder of your music directory and music will see that? Not sure, you'll have to test).

I'm now trying foldermount, but it seems it's moving all my music from the external SD do the internal memory... Then what? Is it supposed to move all the music back to the SD card before unmounting? I can see no point to this...

No I hadn't tested this. I just knew it was an alternative to symlinking which worked on the one x. I didn't realise that they had killed this in 4.2.
I also didn't know about foldermounts which should be a great alternative.
