Yes, don't know when but I'm quite sure root will be available some time in the future.
(In the mean time you should read forum rules, and post in the correct section )
sorry double post
Never say never, but right now it doesn't look good. And this has very little to do with development...
sorry for posting i the wrong place. is it possible for me to boot in to recovery mode and apply sdcard: update.zip? will this revert to 2.2?
why oh why oh why!
I'd hate to count the number of current threads on this board with the same issue, 1 gets answered and another one starts. Have people lost the skill of reading through evolution or is it just a dumb thing

Maybe the mods should put a sticky highlighting the issue with that update.
I can see a lot of new ppl thinking they can root and coming to xda.
There is only one thread with the subject. But if that one thread is not active it can go down burried to second page....
So maybe a sticky of what can be rooted and what cant not
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879525 ... its not a sticky but it always stays on the first page
Stickie for now.....will keep an eye on this one though
@OP...read the stickies on top up to and including the one that say "I will delete any non DEV threads"
Thread closed to get point across for now

[Q] Linux on external screen?

I'm new to Android (from Nokia n900) and I hope to use the phone as a laptop replacement. Has anyone tried to run x11 apps like OpenOffice or Gimp on the external screen? Any thoughts on how I would start will be welcome and I'll definitely share my success.
Please read before you post. Questions should be made in the general forum.
Thanks.

Apologies. The mistake was actually answering the "is this a question" question wrong. My post is meant as an announcement of what I am working on and a way of finding other developers who may be interested. Formatting it as a question was a rhetorical technique.

[Q] Clean Windows 7 Phone install on an Android-ONLY device?

Can it, or has it, been done already? Is anybody working on this?

You joined this site to ask that one question? There was seriously nothing better on your mind than to come in here and ask this single question. Did you bother to do a Google search or even a forum search to see if maybe, just maybe this question has been answered several times before?
No, you didn't. You came in here hoping someone would do all the work for you. You aren't starting off your time here very well. Next time, do everyone a favor and either read the forum rules first, or don't bother posting anything.

Can someone who isn't a bitter 30-year old virgin answer me this, since I can't find a proper answer anywhere else. This is the Q&A section, right?
Depends on the device. Porting OS's is difficult to say the least.
If you look at the HTC HD2 forums, you will see that the devs there have managed it.
All in all, don't get your hopes up for an easy way to get WP7 on your Android, in most cases, it is actually impossible.

Potential Silly Question

I much prefer the 'Streak' live wallpaper in Sense 3.5 ROMs and was just wondering what file(s) would be needed to bring it to Sense 3.0
It's only cause I'm using the XE ROM for a bit as I got bored of Sense 3.5 - I'm kinda winding things up before I get my GN in the new year
Please don't post in the wrong topic.
If you think a question about porting Live wallpaper from one ROM to another belongs in n00b Q&A then you're not much of a Dev...I would've classed it as THEMING, hence it being in the CORRECT forum
Do you really think I'd post a simple question in the wrong place? It would seem over 6,000 posts isn't enough to get respect, especially when someone with 226 posts can get Dev status...
Thanks God I'm off to the GN in a few weeks. If this is the state of Mods on here then you can do one
Easy bro...maybe he's a little tired. Either way enjoy your new phone...i've realised a phone isn't worth much in real life...life comes first. Take care

Well to be honest, I can't see an issue with it being moved to a "noob" Q&A area, as you put it, especially since you ironically titled your thread "Potentially silly question".
I could possibly see this one fitting in either subforum, but have no issue with it being where it is now.
And maybe if you had responded or contacted the mod privately, in a mature manner, it maybe could have been moved back, instead of crying and using your post count as some sort of status. On that basis, I would expect someone with over 6000 posts to be a little more respectful to be honest.

How to root Desire S in simple and plain english please

Am looking for a simple manual to guide me through the routine to root my HTC Desire S.
As english is not my native language I constantly have doubts if I understand everything well enough and at the end do not dare to do the routine.
I don't think I'm the only one out there who has this problem

This is in the wrong section , it should be in the general section or Q&, but I will try to answer your question. Before I can do this I need to know what Hboot you are on, to do this take out the battery then put it back and turn it on by holding power and the volume down button.
Easiest way to root your phone is to constantly pull out the battery whenever you are doing intensive tasks on the phone.

You posted this question in the wrong section, it messes up forums when people do this, have some respect.
If you read the basic guides you would have probably seen the guide I link to below which clearly and simply shows the process you want in a video.
Saying that I understand how you feel, the process made me very nervous too the first time.
There is a video guide in the thread:
[GUIDE] A Complete Tutorial for the Beginners and Others
in the General section

My first reaction was: hold your horses.
I owned a HTC Wildfire and tried to root it, but the whole operation went wrong despite all the good manuals so I ended up buying a new phone.
My second reaction is: thank you for being so kind to share the necessary links.
Now I only have to gather some courage.
Thanks to all the members who reacted and apologies for being in the wrong section:-(
You guys are really bad people... xD
Thanks 4myphone for answering him

adenbutter, he was joking here. Do NOT EVEN THINK to do that...or you'll end up in buying the THIRD phone.
There are alot of links and you forgot to answer mmmcfc's question. In order to properly guide you someone (or direct you to the right thread), we must know the hboot you have (there are different rooting guides for different hboot versions). I hope the link given by 4myphone is all you need.
To avoid such situations in the future, follow some basic rules:
1. Read
2. Search
3. Read again
4. Post only in the right section and only if your question(s) are not discussed or answered somewhere else. Do not open a new thread if the problem has already a topic on it's own
