[Q] Verizon GTab 10.1 4gLTE model sch-i950 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just purchased this from Verizon, and after searching the interwebs for a few hours, I havnt found that anyone has a root for this particular model. Anyone have any luck or info on this model yet??

I spent several hours tonight trying to find an answer to this question myself. It does not look like anyone has rooted the LTE Tab 2 yet, but I hope it happens soon. I've read that the 7" and 10" models have essentially the same hardware so I would think rooting the 10" should be possible since they have already rooted the 7" version. I've been using rooted phones for so long I think it's going to be frustrating not having a CM based ROM on the tablet. I definitely hope someone is working on this.

I wouldnt expect something until after the new year as these just came out
Sprint gave me the SPH-500 which is the same as the verizon unit. Trust me im dying here, honestly could care less about a custom rom but root is almost a necessity these days

The method that originally got the 7" vzw tab 2 was the debugfs exploit. This exploit no longer works on the newer base. Try searching and investigating other root methods for other devices, one of them may work. Good luck.

Paid retail for VZW SG3 should I get dev. edition?

I paid full off contract retail price for a VZW SG3 only to find out it has a locked bootloader. I have a couple of more days in the 14 day window that I can return it in. Should I do that and wait for the developer edition, or will there be a lack of support for it as so few people will have it? Will I be able to flash Roms and kernels created for the other carriers. Pretty much looking for opinions on whether or not it would be a waste to jump through hoops, pay restocking fees, and wait for Samsung's release just to end up in the same boat I would have been in anyway. Thanks for your opinions in advance.
You are one of many, i've spent a decent amount of hours myself trying to figure out whats the next best step.
I don't think anyone has a solid 100% answer right now, I wish there was. but here are my 2 cents:
Personally I'm debating if should return the phone and go with Sprint, problem is Sprint isn't as half as good as VZW in my area so thats a pretty big sacrifice just to be able to load custom roms, as important as it may be.
If you're in the same boat, where you don't really have another decent option, all you can do is wait and hope.
I'm sure this phone won't fall through the cracks mainly due to it's huge fan base and demand, the devs here have yet to disappoint.

Yeah, switching carriers isn't a viable option for me. My family works for Verizon (not wireless) so I get a hefty discount on my rates. I think the main thing that bugs me is I paid $600 for a phone and now I have to sit and watch the other carriers dev forums blow up with cool stuff while we are spinning our wheels. I just bought a Nexus 7 solely to tinker with as I have a Galaxy 10.1 as my workhorse. Maybe when that gets here it will help.
Anybody else in this situation? What are you going to do?
I read somewhere on this site that the non dev version was getting an update to unlock it. This was supposedly from Verizon rep. It's hard to believe since they are selling a separate dev version.

This was debunked, it's not happening; I don't remember what Android site I saw that on, though.
On another note, will people be able to install Sprint SGS 3 ROMs without any troubles on the Verizon SGS 3 Developer Edition, or is that not going to be possible? I'm thinking about getting the Developer one when it comes out, but if we're going to be retarded stepchildren compared to other SGS 3 forums, I won't bother.

That's been debunked. It was reps confusing bootloader unlock with global gsm unlock.

Exactly how I feel, and what I would like to know.
I read on here that the dev version has a 30 day warranty that is all. No one year manufacturer warranty like the rest so that ills it for me.

[Q] Why no ROM love for the i705

Is the Verizon version of the Tab 2 7" that unpopular? I got a sweet deal on one and have yet to find a custom ROM for it other than the discontinued DoubleShot.
Anyone out there have something I haven't found in my search online yet or a reason why there is so darn little aftermarket support for this device?
TIA

I'm guessing because it's such a terrible device. I've had mine for almost a year now and every day it amazes me how terrible it is. I wish I didn't get locked in to two years with Verizon on this thing, but it was the only tablet available from them at the time.

Verizon Galaxy S6 128GB- Out f Box SW From New Online Purchases?

Out of Box SW from new Verizon online purchases? (128gb)
I’ve done an extensive amount of searching, both here and elsewhere, I was hoping to be able to figure this out without a new thread but here goes …
I am interested in getting a 128gb S6, I am also interested in rooting. Obviously In order to root the build it needs to be OC3/OE2 out of the box. I’ve gone to a couple Verizon stores as part of my fact finding and for the 32/64gb versions they appear to all be about out of the OE2 (I found one for 64 but was not in a position to get it). Also per Verizon the 128gb version is delivery order only.
My question is for those here who have a 128gb version. Given that the out of box SW is dependent on when it was sent to Verizon, I’m interested to hear when folks bought / received theirs and what the SW was. My hope is that the 128gb trim has been slow selling and they have a lot of back-stock or Never ordered more units from Samsung. That hope is based on the idea that the level obviously sold poorly enough that Samsung declined to offer the Note 5 and S6 Edge+ with 128gb. Basically I’m trying to figure out what my chances at OE2 are if I order one.
Sorry for the long post and thank you.

Not sure how this is going to help you. You have no way of knowing until you get the unit. Anyone's past experience getting a 128gb is what they got when they got it. The longer you wait, the higher chance it will be updated.
Just go to the store and tell them that you want one with only those versions of software. The firmware version is on the box. Buying online will be hard and unpredictable.

I was in your same position a few weeks ago. I got a brand new 128gb thru Verizon's website praying it would be on OE2 but to my amazement it was only on OC3! I was so happy, lol.
I think your luck is good because the 128gb model is the least popular and most likely all the 128gb models are just sitting on shelves in some warehouse so in order for them to be updated an employee would have to go thru each one, one by one and download and install the OTA's, correct? So yeah, I think that would take a while and they would just let the customer do the OTA.
But like the other guy said the longer you wait the worse your chances are....
Btw for what it's worth mine got shipped from Memphis.

Thank you for the testimonial.
That is indeed my hope. And I place the order Wednesday, (Family plan, I don't get to make unilateral decisions on the account)
Also just for clarity I have inquired to the stores about 64gb, looks like at this point it's pretty much OF1 or late.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

In case anyone else had a similar question to me about the firmware out of the box for a 128 gb s6 (gold). I got it in the mail today and it is OE2! I'm all rooted, titanium installed and blocking the OTA updates from harassing me
And they say there are no happy endings.

As far as I know there still is not an unlock method for the VZW S3. This has been going around for months. At one point someone was looking for a VZW S3 developer edition but with no luck

The beups method would unlock the phone if someone would step up with a dev device.

They were looking for the VZW S3 developer edition. It's a different model number but looks identical to the regular S3
And yea Wicked Sensations was in my opinion one of the best custom roms there ever was for the S3

Im aware I trolled samsungs site for months waiting for the S3 Dev Edition to come back in stock, but it never did. Ebay had 1 or 2 pop up a few years back, but nothing since.
(off topic) I was actually trying to hire someone to port a version of Wicked Sensations 5.0 over to my S5. Noone, not even the original author would respond or take the challenge.

There's a version called Wicked X by bilgerryan but sadly it won't work with the VZW S3. He's one hell of a developer. You should check the rom out. It's here on xda. Only for the sprint version

Question Root for US variant?

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade my phone from a 2020 Moto G Power. The A53 5G is in the running to be a possible upgrade but I need to have root on my phone. I know Samsung has been anti-consumer for years now and have had locked bootloaders (RIP the days of flashing custom roms to my Galaxy S3). From my brief research, it looks like root is unfortunately not possible on the A536U - just wanted to confirm its true?

Damn, what an absolute shame. Great phone, given the price, but I can't live without root. Appreciate the answer!
