Is it possible to unroot and send to the factory for repair?
Unroot yes, re-lock no (in theory also possible, but your warranty is still void)
I have rooted (locked) my TF700T but need to return it to warranty repair. How to unroot it but keep the possibility to root it again after return from warranty repair? Is there any step by step guide?

Open your superuser/SuperSu app, there should be an option to uninstall/unroot or you just delete the "su" file located in system/xbin/

I have SuperSU + OTA Rootkeeper.
If I unroot it using SuperSU, can I re-root it again (without switching to ICS...)?
So what to backup and what to delete from disk to hide it was rooted but at the same time to keep the possibility to re-root it again
PS: I think ASUS will not deeply inspect, if it was unrooted. But if they notice I have SuperSU installed, thay may refuse to repair it.

Once you unrooted, you will not able to "just reroot" without going back to ICS. 99% they don't care about rooting, but if you really unlucky and one of the old Asus tech support picky guy can make a big deal out of this. What's wrong with your device? hardware or software issue? if it's software, Asus probably going to reflash the O/S anyway. To be safe, just unroot, your call.
HW - Compass is not working.
I have superSU and Voodoo OTA rootkeeper. Voodoo gives you the ability to do a temporary unroot (for a user defined period of time) as well as superSU Pro can go invisible (not visible in the apps tray). So you could go this route, set the timer for 3 mos, send it in and get it repaired, and turn back on root once you get it back, in theory. Problem is that Asus will immediately wipe your device and flash over your root with stock firmware, and ship it back to you with a fresh stock JB 10.4.4.25 no doubt and you will have to start all over.

so i know that i can root it at .17, use the app to keep root, update to .29, and use the app to get root back.
but how do you update it? does it matter if i update it manually (download the file from asus support website, unzip to sd card, install the sd card and an exclamation mark will appear,... [like they say in their website])
do i have to update over-the-air?
and what if after i buy it, the version is .29 out of the box? how can i root it?
another question is what case and screen protector do you use for this tablet? i found a lot of brands but i don't know which one is the best to use
thanks
you can update via ota. just make sure you use voodoo to temporarly unroot your transformer and make sure you aren't using a modified build.prop. if for some reason your tf300t is already at .29 you can just downgrade following the instructions in the development section, it's pretty simple.
i use my device naked. no screen protector. i do use an ipad case for when i'm not using it.

Just received my my prize (see signature!) and it came with the .17 firmware - I've unlocked and rooted using the steps provided here, and after unrooting, rebooting, and trying to do an OTA update, it says there's no update available, after this thing was bugging me like crazy while I was trying to get the unlock app on it to update!
any thoughts? manually update?

You won't get the OTA update since you unlocked. You will need to update manually and re-root flashing a zip with CWM. Check this thread for more info.
Note:
That's if you lose root when updating manually.

Thank you, I figured that's why the OTA prompts stopped.... That's the thread I used to get it unlocked and rooted, so what on there am I looking for to manually root? Just need to download the update from ASUS directly and hope the root holds, right?

If you install CWM or TWRP (recoveries) you will be able to flash ASUS updates and flash a zip that gets you root access, if you do lose root when updating.
I know some phones, like my galaxy s 3 will not unroot the phone after a factory reset and keeps superuser but when i did on my Infinity, it seems like i was unrooted, i didnt have superuser anymore. Can someone confirm if it unrooted the tablet or did it just erase superuser APK?

I cant confirm that with the TF700, but it was the case with my TF201. Once I reinstalled the superuser.apk I was back rocking and rolling along.
ok, and i should unroot before JB updates is available OTA right?
I was rooted and decided to do a factory reset.
I had to reinstall superuser to remain rooted after the reset..
"su" remains in /system/xbin/, while Superuser.apk (the app to control the whole thing, could be SuperSU instead) remains in /data/, as all the installed non-stock apps
factory reset = data wipe = /data wipe
so it will delete your app for managing root access, but it will not delete the SUID su executable, so it will not delete the root (access) in Linux/UNIX terms, you will just need to simply reinstall the app to manage it from the Market (which doesn't require root privileges itself, the app will just make use of them when opened - actually running it once to make sure it works first is recommended)

Sorry, I missed this one (busy time; also, your messages can get lost behind your vast signature! why speedtest?!).
There are various views on this. Some XDA members claim they had problems with OTA updates when rooted, some (including myself) were able to update without ever having to unroot or change anything, but the update will require getting the root (copy of "su") back, see some threads on this here, SuperSU might come in handy.
Basically, if you receive OTA update (or just the notification) when rooted, that's fine, just go through the process. If it fails, unroot first or even re-flash firmware. On the other hand, if you hear that most of the people here are receiving OTA updates and you still don't, after some initial wait you should probably unroot first and then check for OTA. This is not meant to be confusing, just ennumerating the options, as there is some disagreement about the first issue (^).
got it, thanks. Will unroot and stay unrooted until JB, i think it's the best solution

This is the Asus TF700T forum.
I think you need to be in one of the Samsung Galaxy forums.
You can always go to ASUS' website and download the newest ROM update. I did that after gaining NVFlash access. I had to rerun the debugfs exploit afterwards, but it was updated and rooted.
Phone:
Sprint HTC EVO 3D
Root & S-Off (JBear)
HBoot: ENG 1.04
ROM: CM10.1 Wild for the Night
Kernel: Baked-In CM 10.1
Recovery: TWRP 2.4.1.0
Tablet:
ASUS Transformer Infinity TF700T
Rooted, Unlocked, & NVFlash Access
Bootloader: AndroidRoot 9.4.5.30r01
ROM: Stock (For Now)
Kernel: Clemsyn's 1.8Ghz & 700 GPU
Recovery: TWRP 2.4.1.0
I was rooted and on the latest OTA update. I couldn't unlock due to (hopefully) a wrong MAC address so I sent it in for RMA. It just came back, and the MAC address is saying the same thing but I hope to be able to unlock anyway, we'll see.
However, I lost root, installed supersu and rootkeeper but can't get root back. My firmware is back to 10.4.4.16. What steps should I take to again root, hopefully unlock, and get on a custom ROM?
At this point, I want to root before unlocking in case they haven't fixed the MAC address issue so I can continue to get support.

I think it's better to unlock it first, once unlocked, it's easy to get root. If you want root first, you need to downgrade back to .30 ICS version, do the root then upgrade one by one until you back to the latest version (as you can see...too much work).
Thank you, worked like a charm. Now unlocked, rooted and on custom ROM.
Really...Were you unlocked before you sent it in for the RMA?
I haven't read of anyone able to unlock after getting relocked on a RMA, which is where I am at and they told me that I can RMA it, but no promises... but hadn't heard of anyone able to unlock after sending it in... maybe I actually should...

If you have RMA due to hardware issue, then your risk is low versus software issue. It just my observation.

There does seem to be an issue with ASUS reflashing and permalocking devices. This is not going to sound very nice in terms of hope, but if you really need to RMA, you need really need to RMA. It's of no use asking yourself this question if your device is faulty -- what's wrong?
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up about the recent firmware update (build 10.6.1.15.3) for the TF300T. I had root before the update and all was well in the world and then I saw the update notification. I checked voodoo to make sure I had root backed up and I did. I performed the update and now no root and voodoo is not restoring it. I fired up adb and found su binary and busybox are missing from bin and xbin It appears asus decided to overwrite my system directory in this update and wipe out all those files that I so carefully placed to gain root access.
I think I am now officially stuck unrooted. :crying:
Unfortunately unlocking the bootloader is not an option for me for work related reasons. If anyone has any other information about this update or how I can restore root, please help!
Otherwise you would be wise to stay away from this update if you are currently locked and want to keep root.
This might help you:
[JB ROOT] motochopper works! (Root JB 4.1.1 & 4.2.1 with locked bootloader!)
And a little searching might find it even quicker than asking!
Someone just confirmed it is still working with the latest upgrade.
Would have been surprised, if Asus had broken it that quickly.

I actually did that. I temp unrooted before I updated which in hindsight might have been part of my issue. Anyways, I am going to be using motochopper to reroot but my tmp directory thinks it is a file now :silly:
I am currently downloading the asus firmware file so I can manually update (even though i am already on 4.2.1) and that is suppose to re-write my system directory so my tmp directory will be restored and I can push all the needed files. I will report back with how it goes.
[UPDATE] I was able to apply asus firmware manually (which factory reset my device in the process) then ran motochopper successfully. I backed up root with voodoo and this time updated firmware OTA without temp unrooting. After the update was applied, I restored root with voodoo and all is well now! Thank you everyone for your help

I think this is a minor update and the driver versions are not as new as the 10.6.1.27.1 update they did for the TF300T. That has wifi on version.7.2.1.50 and Bluetooth on version 11.38.

Call me a hopeless romantic, I still think that we will at least receive an Android 4.3 update for our tablet, if not the rumored Key Lime Pie in October. Since the new Infinity is still not out yet, the tf700 should still be the flagship product of ASUS (the new Nexus 7 is a Google device after all). Even HTC with its terrible track record of updating devices has updated its One X to Android 4.2.2, I see no reason why ASUS stops pushing out updates for our tf700.
I hope there wil come some updates
Im on cromi 4.7 now it is usable bevor it was horrible

That's great. Unfortuantely for me, OTA Rootkeeper was unable to restore my root. Motochopper also does not work anymore. Am I screwed?
Asus have blocked the motochopper exploit in this update.
To regain root without unlocking (obviously that's the easy option) is downgrade from the Asus Website, apply root with motochopper, use ota root keeper, temp unroot, upgrade via OTA and reapply root from voodoo ota......

1. While rooted on 4.2.1 (previous build), I started OTA Rootkeeper and verified all checkboxes were checked.
2. Pushed the button to Protect root.
3. Let OTA update run.
4. Started OTA Rootkeeper and pressed Restore root, getting the msgs "root su restored" and "Superuser granted to Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper".
5. When I refresh the status, the "Device rooted" and "Root permission granted" boxes are still unchecked. Root Check also says device is not rooted.
Did I miss a step? I thought it was pretty easy to follow but maybe I thought it was supposed to be too easy?
Oh, if it matters, when I start Rootkeeper, the "/system supports root protection" and "Protected su copy available" boxes are checked.
