[Q] In need of expert help: I accidently did a factory reset in HBOOT - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi everyone n00b here and I apologize ahead of time for anyone needing to spell things out for me. I just got a new HTC One X and I had unlocked the bootloader using the CID 1111111 hack. Everything worked out great and I had even installed the Cyogenmod but I accidently selected factory reset while in HBOOT mode. TWRP is still accessible but I've lost all my android folders on the SD cared and anytime I try to reboot the phone it stays on a boot loop. It does not get past the Cyogenmod logo. Here's my One X specifics:

Plug into computer then format the phones sd card. Once done you can put.files.on it again. Copy cyanogen onto sd
Then flash through twrp.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium

Plug in phone.. go to "my computer" right click "removable storage" (if your computer recognizes it). Select format.
Once complete, I would personally download cleanrom 5.1. Transfer to phone.
Flash entire ROM through twrp and reboot. That will give you a stable ROM to work with with no fastboot kernel BS...

Help needed to recover files
I ran into similar situation where my phone is now factory reset and I lost all SD Card partition contents.
Tried various recovery tools but not able to recover lost data. (I have no backup of Camera photos )
Can anyone suggest something to recover my files?
Thanks
Cammy

i couldn't recover from hboot factory reset but i could recover from twrp sdcard format, you might have better luck but you could try piriform recuva, ontrack easyrecovery, runtime getdataback.

I had a similar problem, although I did not S-Off my phone (I avoid doing this, as it completely voids my warrenty)
It appeared to be a software issue in the ROM I had installed, I made an attempt to give my SD card a new format, what appeared to happen in my case is the media would unmount, the partition table would be deleted, the phone would attempt to mount the media again without the partition table and simply give up
I solved this by inserting my SD card into another phone and that would give the SD card its format, works fine now
I hope this helps, if you don't have aother phone put the new format on the SD card I believe 4EXT and CWM recovery both have options for you to do so

You need to format sdcard..
The method is this way
1.flash 4EXT recovery
2.connect your phone with sdcard to pc
From recovery
3.then toggle usb storage.. In 4ext recovery
4.a pop up appears on your pc to format the sdcard.. Format it and enjoy (fat32)

Is there any reason you prefer this method? This may sound rather presumptuous but from personal experience it is best to do this away from Windows as Microsoft don't provide full documentation for all their products

n particular reason ..that way SD-card is identified pretty easily thats all
and if 4EXT identifies the sdcard formatting it there itself will do too
actually there is a better tool .. SD Formatter (windows one) and it works perfectly well ..it uses algorithms optimized for sdcards rather than generic ones
Problem solved
I flashed recovery. Now i partitioned my SD card via recovery 2gb to 0 (not sure if thats correct tho) Rebooted and it now recognizes my SD card again.
Now trying to flash a ROM.
*UPDATE*
Flashed a ROM and up and running, all is working well again. Thanks for the help!

Desire S won't boot following ICS installation

Apologies in advance as I know there are many similar threads on here but I've read so much I'm just getting confused! Here goes...
Yesterday I tried to install the official version of ICS onto my Desire S. I followed all of the steps and the computer said the software had been successfully installed. Since then my phone will not boot past the HTC logo screen. I can get into the hboot screen by booting with power on + volume down and my computer recognises the phone when i plug it in in fastboot. It won't go into recovery mode and a factory reset doesn't work. I have tried re-installing the software but it makes no difference. I bought the phone second hand and it was already rooted so I don't have the programs that were used.
When booting in hboot the following info apppears:
-revolutionary-
SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT - 6.98.1002
RADIO - 3831.19.00.110
eMMC-boot
Mar 10 2011, 14:58:38
I have read that this version of hboot is not compatible and that I require an hboot upgrade but i'm not sure how to do this as I cannot access the sd folder of my phone and I don't have an external micro SD reader.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if means reverting back to gingerbread or using another ROM. I just want my phone to work again!

if your phone is detected in fastboot, the best bet you have is to install a custom recovery and then flash another ROM through it.
check this thread, you may find something to help you.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186401
I would recommend the CM10 by nk111. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776256&highlight=all+credit

Errr u could try putting the file into the sd with another phone.
If u can enter recovery mode, u can connect the sd card with the computer.

I had the same issue and manage to fixed it by following this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679338
I used a second sd card, I formatted it first and only put the file I need at that time on it. I
In step 5 Reboot into bootloade, select recovery wait till you see the screen with the red triangle exclamation mark and press the volume up and power button at the same time.
You will enter the Android system recovery <3e> and see the following options:
reboot system now
apply update from SD card
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe the cache partition and wipe data/factory reset
Now following step B from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858508
When update is finished - reboot, then configure ICS and delete PG88IMG.zip from sd card.
Thanks very much for your help guys. I've managed to sort the problem. For everyone else out there with the same problem I'll tell you what I did....
The hboot version on my phone (6.98.1002) is not compatible with the official ICS software update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488672 - this thread shows how to update the hboot when stuck in bootloop.
I then reinstalled the ICS ruu onto my phone and it is now working fine although it is no longer rooted.
Could someone please tell me the best way to root my phone again. In the bootloader menu it still says revolutionary s-off but i cannot access ROM manager or titanium backup. Do I need to fully root it again?
Since you installed the official RUU, your root is probably gone.. You will have to fully root the phone again to get root access.
You could try flashing a custom recovery in fastboot, and then flashing SuperSu or superuser from recovery.

This. As long as you're S-OFF, rooting is just a matter of flashing custom recovery (using fastboot), and flashing SuperSU ZIP in recovery. The first step is covered in so many tutorials that any search will lead you right to it.
Sorry for late response but thank you all who helped me. My phone is now fully functional and I couldn't have done it without you guys. Much appreciated!

You need to flash a stock recovery. Then from bootloader you have to do a FACTORY RESET/CLEAR STORAGE.
afterwards, SD should be mountable.
Thanks Khan. But my problem is that my PC is not recognizing my device in the bootloader mode. Also when I try to mount SD card as USB drive it is not getting reflected as external drive. After trying for almost 40-50 time I could see it in PC only once or twice.

hmm... Faulty Cable? or have you tried checking the device with another PC?
You can also check the DEVICE MANAGER while the phone is plugged in, and see if there is any unfinished device driver installation.
No, not at all a faulty cable I tried 2 different cables both of which used to work till yesterday. Just was able to connect to PC again flashed stock recovery img which I took a before flashing CWM but again not able to reset factory settings it just keeps restarting.

It should work though. Can you go into stock recovery? The phone with red triangle is ok. When this appears, pressing volumeUP+power should get you into recovery.
If you can't go into recovery, you may have flashed a wrong one.

I was checking if the recovery you flashed is working correctly. Technically it should be able to wipe the SD storage.
Try factory reset again and then flash TWRP and see if you can mount the SD now.

Oh that. No it won't restore it like that. The factory reset was to make the SD PARTITION work again.
To get the stock ROM back, you need to run an RUU or have an OTA.zip ...

I'll give you hints.
You need to format your SD card with Original HTC recovery to format it correctly.
Now I don't know if stock recovery would work with Hboot 2.16.
If it doesn't, you have to run a 4.1.1 RUU which will do the job for you. Then reinstall everything (hboot 2.16, 4.2.2 rom).

I still have twrp, but my phone has no OS.
I'm kinda lost as to how to proceed to get s off and install cm11. Could you guys please help me?
The best way to restore your OS and system partition is to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593037
It will explain what you need depending on your S-ON status, and it provides links to the RUU you need to get your phone back up and running.
You'll be able to do this by holding down your volume down and power buttons until hboot boots, and going into fastboot mode. The rest is explained in the guide. Reply to me if you need any help, and hit that thanks button on me and the link's OP if he helped you.
All you need to do is flash a ROM again. An RUU isn't required, in fact, if you're s-on it's very risky.

I just didn't know if he had a ROM in his storage or not, lol. I figured he didn't if he still has recovery and bothered posting about it.
Even if there is no ROM zip on the storage, the user can mount the sd card and copy one across from a PC.
