Ok, so I have everything installed and running but I have some questions on features that it seems like are missing or I just can't figure them out. First some phone info, then the questions. Any help would be much appreciated.
CM 10 (12/18/2012 version) Though I have had the same issues with all I have installed
Gapps jb 10/11/2012 version
Questions:
- I can't seem to find a way to edit my contacts. They are linked to my gmail account (and I can't store them on my phone like I could with ICS it seems) and when I click on the "People" app it shows the contacts but I don't see a way to edit them or store them on my "phone account" like in ICS.
- When I go to the "Play Store" I don't have a way to go to the apps I have installed to update them.
- IN the messaging app I don't have any way to change settings or notifications. This happens in several apps. I know I can turn notifications off completely in "app info", but how do I change other settings and notifications (like popup window for quick reply, sounds for messages, etc.)
Any suggestions?
you need to remap your keys, settings->system->hardware keys
OK, its official. I am an idiot. I figured it out about an hour or so ago. I thought I already changed it but apparently I didn't. Thanks

I'm using the latest XDANDROID on my AT&T Tilt2 (Rhodium) and i just simply can't seem to be able to keep it uninstalled. when i try to uninstall it, it seemed like it is indeed uninstalled but every time i reboot and go into XDANDROID, it's back there.
I do not need the extra features. I just generally prefer the simplistic default message function that android already have.
I've only started using android for a few days so far so if i've missed something simple, i apologize in advance. Likewise, if someone could help me with this, I thank you in advance
P.S. I've tried the search function and i just couldn't find anything about uninstalling handcent SMS rather than uninstalling the default messages.

How did you try and uninstall it? Was it through Settings-> Applications, etc, or was it with an unistalling app?

I tried it via setting--> application and a app called aTrackDog. everytime i tried to uninstall it, it was rather quick so i'm assuming that it is only uninstalling a few files and the handcent sms is fixing it every reboot.

Hmmm, well I would try to install it again, and install an uninstaller called Apex, just search for that, its the first one to come up. If Apex doesn't work, and if another regular uninstall through settings doesn't work, then I would leave it, or wipe your phone again if it bothers you too much to have it.
Remember you can just turn Handcent notifications off and turn on the default notifications, set all the messaging to the default messenger and you'll never even know it was there. But I would try to reinstall then uninstall with both of those methods. Let us know how it goes.

i've upgraded handcent from 2.9.29 to 2.9.30 to 'reinstall' it and then used aTrackDog to remove it. it seemed to work perfectly well. so I've went ahead and rebooted to see if it persisted. it didn't. i now have Handcent SMS 2.9.29 still on and that Apex software is buggy since it didn't detect handcent and a number of other apps on it.
gonna try to figure out how to disable Handcent SMS notification and see if it persist. I don't neccessarly have to reset my phone since the XDANDROID is running purely from my microSD (using HARET).
Handcent SMS is really really annoying for me now cause I still have to go into the default SMS client for the notification for that to stop. I'm essientally having double notication for every messages i'm getting.
P.S. I've just noticed that these other apps are also persisting too despite my effort to uninstall them;
Digital Rain
Hero Clocks
Live Wallpaper Picker
Starfield

Well, I'm unfamiliar with the inner workings of Xdandroid and why it wouldn't be uninstalling the apps you don't want, but I'm very familiar with Handcent. So to turn of the notifications, open Handcent and on the screen with all of your conversations press the wrench in the top right. Then go down to Notifications and uncheck the "Display message notifications in status bar" This will stop you from getting double notifications. If you wanted to use Handcent and turn off the notifications in the default, open the default with the conversations listed, go to menu, then settings, and the same thing - uncheck the notifications button.
Perhaps after you uninstall the apps, there is something on your SD card that could be making it still be there. Maybe uninstall the app then mount your SD and do a computer search over your sd for anything dealing with Handcent, or whatever app and delete it. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully someone else using Xdandroid can give some insight.

I got my G2x about 2 weeks ago and I'm having a problem with Google Voice. The app isn't refreshing in the background. What I mean is that for it update, I have to actually open up the app and then it will refresh. Background is enabled, I double checked. I'm currently using the leaked Gingerbread ROM from Modaco but I don't think that's the issue since I'm was having the exactly same problem with the stock 2.2 which came with the phone. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
I'm also having problems downloading Apps. Sometimes when I try to download an App, it would go from "Starting Download...." to "Downloading...." then just suddenly quit with no error messages at all.
Hate bumping my own thread, but does anyone know what's going on? Getting really annoying to constant have to manually check for texts.
Do you have Synchronize Inbox and Inbox Notifications enabled under the Google Voice App settings?
Yup along with Vibrate
Did you somehow accidentally enable the Do Not Disturb feature in the app or maybe online in your settings?
"Do Not Disturb" is unchecked on both the phone app and the voice website.
Hi All, I'd had my Xoom since release but a while ago it fell by the wayside, I recently picked it up again an spent this evening fiddling with it.
I manage to install Omni 4.4.4 and have the ElementalX 2.1 kernel so I can overclock it.
All seems fine except for a few minor things that are bugging me. On the home screen there is a white bar at the top, if I press the on the right of this bar it says 'App isn't installed' If I click the left side of it it brings up a google search bar. Any idea why it says App isn't installed on the right?
As well as that on the search bar I used to be able to press the microphone and speak what I wanted to search. This no long happens it doesn't do anything when I click the microphone.
Is there a way to delete the apps it won;t let you delete in the normal way. I'm a bit OCD about icon and I have Icons for 'Phone' and 'Messages' That is obviously not required on my tablet and weren't there with the OEM software.
Any other hints of tips for a noob?

The "app not installed" go to the play store and download "Google search"
Via normal app settings you can not uninstall system apps. So the normal way wouldn't work for phone and messages. However that Rom comes pre rooted so using a root enabled file explorer you can navigate to /system/app or /system/priv-app (depending on the application) and simple delete the app then reboot the tablet for the changes to take effect.
Or If you'd like you can use an app called titanium restore which has the ability to remove/uninstall ANY application

Hi everyone, ever since the update, my apps stop running in the background when I close the app. Example: I don't get Whatsapp notifications anymore unless I open the app and keep it open. If I close all open apps, I will no longer receive any of the notifications for any of them.
I went into the battery settings disabled battery saver mode but that didn't do anything.
I would appreciate any help you could provide.

It's apparently one of the issues with the latest OTA update, where closing all running apps will terminate the background processes associated with the apps closed. Prior to the update and the Close All button being added to the recent apps list, I don't think it had this problem (I don't use Whatsapp, but my Skype and Discord notifications still come through even if I don't have them on my recent apps list).
This is a little frustrating. Noticed that I wasn't getting any notifications from tasker, pushover, textra, hangouts, inbox and etc.
Also noticed that pushover will not update unless it is off of wifi. All my other devices receive notifications on this wifi. IE nothing blocked.
I have had to open all the programs that I want to receive notifications from, open. Not the best work around.

I noticed that on occasion there will be small text under the new button that says "long press to set up apps that could run in the background" I do it but it doesn't seem to do anything, maybe free up some of the RAM but that's about it. I'm wondering if there is a bug and if it's supposed to show something.
Has anyone else tried the long press?
As of now all I do is keep a folder on the desktop labeled background apps. It helps big time when I accidentally tap the close all button. But my solution as of now is to keep things open that don't seem to work in the background. I've been experimenting with what works and it seems like in some recent app updates they begin to work without being open. I know for sure that facebook and now facebook messenger work without being open, as well as some google services. I have a memory clearer app that I use when I'm not using my phone so it clears whatever it can without killing the apps. But that's what I have as of now, trial and error to figure out what I need to leave open and what I can close. And I strongly recommend the folder, I have had many times where I accidentally close everything and forget what I had to leave open.
It's a bummer though, I just bought the phone and then this update came out. Kinda kills the excitement of getting a new awesome phone if I have to deal with this frustration :/ Other than that, it's definately a nice step up from a Samsung S4.

Misbehave as in not show anything after a long press?
Yes, nothing happens anytime I try it. After reboot, the first time I pull up the running apps is when I get the prompt. After the first long press after a reboot, the prompt is gone. If I have an app open and then I do the long press, I am taken back to the desktop, but no matter what I try, nothing seems to happen after the long press other than being taken back to the desktop if I had an app open.
I have the same issue, I thought it was a Internet connection issue (see my thread) but after digging deeper realised my background apps werent running after closing them and the long press option does nothing.
I have the same problem. Any solution?

I've just installed the new update and it looks like the issues I had with background apps closing when clearing all apps has been fixed. I've got no apps running in the foreground yet can see Whatsapp, Fitbit, etc still running and I'm receiving notifications for them.
Hi everyone.
My wife has an S8 and recently she has noticed that she hasn't been receiving notification on Facebook messenger.
Me thinking it was an easy problem to solve went into the phone setting clicked on notifications and found that the notifications for the app were all on how they should be.
Then I went into the app settings and checked there and everything was right.
Then I restarted the phone and it still wouldn't work.
Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and still no success
I even got my phone out an S7E and checked how the settings should look on mine and hers matched my settings.
All her other apps are working except this one.
Am I missing something here, because it doesn't make any sense why it's not working. I performed a stock flash on the device about a month ago to 3 software, so she could have wifi calling but I don't see how this could of affected this one app and none of the others.
If anyone has any suggestions here I am all ears because I am out of ideas.
Make sure that it's not being forced close by the S8's onboard memory manager... sometimes it shuts down apps and you won't get notifications. Double check in the battery settings (you can get there from settings or the swipe panel) to see if the Messenger app itself is active.

Hi people, I seem to have solved the problem.
I followed the suggestion and went to the battery setting. In those setting there was an option for unmonitored and monitored apps. When checking the list of apps that were in these setting everything was right, including the messenger app in unmonitered app section. I removed it from that list and didn't bother adding it back.
Tested.........and it worked....I even got other people to message her in different situtations and it worked and still works.....not added it back in to the list yet, as long as it keeps working I prob won't
