Screen Protectors - Nexus 4 Accessories

Hiya Guys,
I finally have my Nexus 4 (yay). I bought a set of dual SGP screen protectors for my phone to keep it protected, but I'm a little unhappy with the front protector. The back fits nicely to the edges as its flat, but because of the slight bezel on the front the protector doesn't fill the whole of the glass which makes it instantly noticeable.
Can anyone recommend any other protectors? Maybe post a photo or 2 if you have them so we can see what they look like when fitted? I'll grab a photo of the SGP ones when I get chance.

Hey man I think u are asking in the wrong section. You need to ask this in the accessories section.
Get Best skins ever BTW its a wet application protector...

Oh damn I didn't even see that forum! Can someone move or delete this please

Nexus 4 screen have curved edges, so the screen protector has to be cut smaller to prevent bubbling. ( dry application )
I personally don't have a problem with it, though. I prefer dry application over wet application.

[Pictures] Spigen SGP Ultra Crystal Screen Protector

I got my screen protector in the mail today and put it on my phone. I figured I should share my thoughts along with some pictures for those who are looking at screen protectors.
The pack came with two screen protectors, a squeegee, some dust removal stickers, and a small micro fiber cloth. The protector was not too bad to put on, pretty similar to other dry application ones and the Realook which I have used on my Samsung Vibrant. It was kind of tough to align because the screen protector is literally exactly the width of your screen, so if you're off alignment, it looks horrible.
The screen protector is definitely super clear. It also is a fingerprint magnet, and it feels slightly tacky. I'm hoping that tackiness will go away as it gets more use, because I like being able to glide over my screen smoothly.
One huge disadvantage with this screen protector is that because of the curved screen, the protector only covers the flat part. It is definitely noticeable when you see it closer. I tried taking pictures to depict this. I also with they would have just had the protector cover the FFC. I'm not sure how it would actually affect the optics (if at all), but I really hate that cut out! Overall, I'm decently content with my purchase, but I would love to see pics and reviews for BSE when those arrive since I'm considering that for the back, and even replace the front if I end up not liking the Spigen.
Thanks so much for these. I used the SGP on my Gnex and loved it. There's something special about these Crystal series ones but I don't remember what it is.

I got the Ultra Clear for my N4. It hasn't arrived yet, so for now I'm using my spare One X Oleophobic. The Oleophobic is great, really good for repelling fingerprints, I would have got it but when I bought my N4 UltraClear they weren't selling the Oleo. Thanks for the pictures, it seems to fit a lot better than the One X SGP protectors did on the One X. Doesn't look too bad at all.
I got the crystal clear and I have the same issue with the protector being too small. I know that this has been the case with some their other protectors, but I'm going to have to try some other brands. I can't stand it being cut off like this.

The Spigen website.
I wonder if using the Google Bumper will hide the fact that it doesn't quite reach the edges.
I got the oleophobic one in today from SGP, it doesnt cover the whole screen either. Better than nothing i guess for now.
I'm starting to have a huge distaste for the curved screens. Feels nice with the hardware buttons on my S3, but looks like utter garbage with a screen protector.

The bumper does not cover it.
Also big warning for people looking to buy SGP: The light sensor is covered by this screen protector (not cut out like most) and it interfered with the functionality of the phone. In the past I've had screen protectors that went over the sensor without issue, but with this particular protector and phone, it did not work.
For example if i went to make a phone call, the screen would stay dark even if i took the screen away from my face. Also auto brightness didn't work either. I had to cut the film to expose the sensors. Everything is working normally now. Anyone else have this issue?
Also received mine today, dont have the phone yet though. Not feeling too happy about it already seeing as it doesnt cover the curved screen too well... Money down the drain then :s
Mine will arrive today and I plan to put it in a case so its not a big deal. The SGP on my Note 2 didn't go all the way to the edge either. A tpu case fixed that and everything was covered.

Good thing I waited. I am planning on using this phone with screen protectors only and I can't pay for a high quality one that looks pretty bad IMO.
Looks great. SGP never usually covers the entire front. It is always just a tad bit smaller.
You guys do know it has to be cut smaller because the curved edges will make the protector peel right?

Yes, I'm just hoping someone finds out a way to make t stick over the curved glass. I guess I am going to have to go with a wet screen protector.

Yes, but it stops way short of the curve. It literally just covers the display (width wise). They could have extended it a bit further. This is going to leave a gap, even with a TPU case on it.
How is the smoothness of these screen protectors? I really like the way zagg HD screen protectors feel and I'm looking for something similar.
Just received mine today. Installation was straightforward and the dust removal stickers easily snatched up the remaining few bits of dust at the end. The surface slickness is shockingly poor at first but improves drastically after just a few minutes.
The film doesn't run all the way to the edge due to the curvature of the screen, but there may be a solution. Steinheil makes a dry application edge to edge film called Curved Crystal for the SGS3 which also has a curved edge screen. If there is enough interest, I'm sure they will make one for the N4.

I'm not sure how smooth the zagg HDs are, but right after you put the screen protector on, it is really tacky. But it gets much more smoother as you use it. I think that as you use it more, you're depositing more skin oils onto to screen protector and it kind of "seasons" the screen protector.
This sounds weird, but I just put a bunch of fingerprints on it, then I distributed it using a dry kimwipe (i'm sure a microfiber would work too) and after using it for about 24 hours, it's pretty much as slick as you would expect from the bare glass. Also, of course there is no orange peel feeling since this is a dry application screen protector.

Anyone have Spigen Dual Protector and N4 Bumper?

Does anyone have the Spigen dual side screen protector with the play store Nexus 4 Bumper?
If you do- How does it fit and would you recommend it because I'm looking at possibly getting this combo.
I could save $15 and get a poetic bumper for $5 instead of the $20 play store one. The only thing is I prefer the look of the play store one.
I can also get the play store one for much cheaper later on.
I was also thinking of getting the Poetic Atmosphere because it looks so nice on the iPhone 5 an the Spigen (just front) screen protector.
But maybe I'll just get them both and decide for myself.
I have the spigen dual ordered. Should be here next week. I have the bumper already but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or not. I'm not liking how it makes the phone feel. The bumper is not as slim as I thought.
I have this exact combo - simply perfect.

I have the combo as well and I wouldn't necessarily call it perfect, though I like the combo. I think the front protector doesn't cover enough of the sides, so there is a gap between the bumper and the protector... You can feel it when swiping from the edges (ex: when switching between tabs in Chrome).
I think a better case / protector combo is the Spigen with Diztronic... The case covers enough of the sides so there is barely a gap on the sides.
Anyways, since I prefer the bumper, I'll wait for the Phantom tempered glass protector and hope that the fit will be nicer.
I'll try to post a few pics tomorrow.

I have the same combo and like others have mentioned I don't like that the front protector does not go edge to edge on the screen, but it was expected. I don't like wet application ones so I'll just suck it up.

Spigen released some dry application ones for the Galaxy S3 that covered the whole screen (which has curved edges) so we just have to wait!
Spigen has made curved glass protectors before (for the gs3) but the reviews for that particular protector are terrible.
The hardness is half that of the current N4 one they have.
Can somebody please post a picture of the combo.
And has anybody dropped their phone? Any stories about the combo?

Here you go (also showing my first attempt at snapseed haha). The protector just barely reaches to where the screen begins to curve down on the sides. The back is near perfect luckily. Let me know if you need to see any additional pictures.

While the novelty of the Spigen Curved Crystal protectors is nice, they are incredibly easy to scratch it seems. I have a coworker that got the Curved Crystal protectors for her GS3, and she was disappointed at how easily they got visible hairline scratches. The first one she was rough with, but the 2nd one she took care to keep covered with the official GS3 book-like case that has a front flap, and it somehow still managed to get scratched.
I really think that if you want to cover the whole glass on the Nexus 4, you pretty much have to go with a wet apply. I'm almost a mandatory dry apply person, but I must say, it really makes it look as if you cheaped out on the screen protector to anybody else that looks at your phone. The bumper only accentuates this visual problem. Personally I'm cursing LG and Google for even doing this to the screen, it seems utterly gimmicky, pointless, and makes it absolute hell to get a good smooth dry apply screen protector on the phone. I find myself actually avoiding using the sloped edge because I run right into the edge of my dry screen protector. I usually start my swipes right at the edge of the screen protector.

What is the difference between dry and wet application in terms of the screen's curve.
Correct me if I'm wrong but what I take you're saying is that wet application screen protectors will cover the entire (curved)N4 screen as dry ones won't (or if they do they won't be too good)

I don't actually have a wet apply protector myself, but I ordered a Best Skin's Ever full body set that should be delivered sometime next week, along with a Spigen Dual set. From reading up on them though, it seems like all of the wet apply ones do actually cover the entire glass, which would make sense as they're totally floppy and flexible during the installation phase. The tough part, even with those, seems to be getting them to cure and stick permanently to the curved glass.
I think I'll give the BSE a try and see how it goes before the Spigen, based on some people's comments that the BSE seems smoother than other brands of wet applies. I typically really hate the rubbery drag that the wet applies have.

I highly recommend ZAGG. Cutouts fit perfect and the sides aren't so short that any case or bumper you put on the phone will eat into it and ruin the screen protector.

I dislike wet-type screen protectors (well only used Zagg) and didnt like it at all.
Felt really plastic and left orange peel affect on the screen.
Spigen i have never went wrong with, but quite expensive for what it is.
Chinese generic stuff seems to be ok. I just use them and replace it every 1-2months since its so cheap
Although I know I might get some hate for this, I'm using the Invisible Shield from Zagg and I quite like it. Been using this protector for my past two phones.

Camera lens scratches?

So I planned on not putting my N5 in a case and possibly no screen protector either.... until I noticed when laying on the desk the camera is keeping it from lying flat. I am edging towards a case but just thought I would ask for the people that went naked. Shame since I absolutely love the feel of the N5.
Have you noticed any scratches on the lens?
This is not really directed at the person that babies their device like fine china.... more the person that will slide their phone across the table when trying to show a picture or something.
Haven't noticed anything on my n5 camera lens, but was wondering the same thing. I have my eye on a hybrid, clear backed, spigen case to show off the white back

I have had my N5 for 6 days now. It has been in an official "Nexus 5 Bumper Case" from the beginning, except for the few minutes while I installed a screen protector first. I've been pretty careful with the device, but I do have a small scratch on that giant camera lens cover already. Luckily, the scratch is near the perimeter and doesn't look like it can impact image capture. It is also a slight enough scratch that I cannot capture it in a photograph with my Motorola Atrix 4G, it has to be looked for to see it.
My screen protector is the SPIGEN Steinheil Ultra Crystal, which I am quite pleased with. It came with two screen protectors, so I am loosely considering cutting a circle out of the second one and fitting it to the camera lens cover.

Why didn't you just keep the stock one on it? That's what I did.
Also if any of you guys get a custom skin they cover the circle around the camera too. So it's a good option if you like to keep it without a case.

If you're worried about scratching the glass you can get a caseology leather tpu case witch feels really good and almost naked like it protects the screen and the camera glass from touching your table or counter top surfaces. If you really like naked I suggest searching for some camera glass protectors yes they do exist or make a DYI one by cutting one into a circular shape

I just really like the way the phone feels without a case. It's awesome. I just really don't want to scratch the camera glass. I wonder if the black ring will help at all.
Also, this phone has Gorilla Glass 3, I've got q screen protector on it and it's getting small scratches on the protector here and there. Does one really need a screen protector for Gorilla Glass 3?

I have been using a Moshi iVisor edge-to-edge for about 4 months and have had no problems with it. I have used it in conjunction with a UAG case and it fits perfectly. Note that it only has adhesive around the edges, and not on the screen itself. Others have reported the edges lifting and allowing dust in over time, but I have not yet experienced this (it is supposed to be fully washable and reusable, should this happen). Also it is one of those protectors with the 'grid of dots' on the glass (something to do with the way the glass is hardened, or touch sensitivity or something). This is only visible in direct sunlight when the screen is off, and I never really notice it.
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/moshi-iv...ote-4-glass-screen-protector-black-p51561.htm
There are other edge-to-edge protectors, if you check out this thread (especially toward the end) you'll find others who have used them:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/accessories/tempered-glass-screen-protectors-t2878038
I'm thinking particularly of this one, which is similar to the Moshi:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tech-Armor-Samsung-Ballistic-Protector/dp/B00STN7SQY
Both edge-to-edge and those with a gap around have their pluses and minuses - but I, for one, can't stand the gap around the screen protector that the non-edge-to-edge protectors have, sorry but I think it looks dreadful. :/

Thanks for your reply. I started the thread because I just got this device and when I attempted to check accessories it would loop me back to a blank page. This is the main reason I usually stick to one thread on XDA. People that just sit and wait to jump on someone for a simple question without bothering to send a PM but would rather say what they think they need to for everyone to see...so they can get a thumbs up. I really appreciate your reply . You would fit in well with the thread Im always on...respectful..fun..all around good time...so heres a ?up for you for acting like an adult. So I got my second nuglas from eBay. Just like my first one it's cut small. But IMO it's the best for phone's that can't get rid of the halo. It has a very good oleophobic screen and very smooth. Mine has very little halo on sides and around home button. It still looks great with the minimal halo I can deal with.
