[ROM][CM7.2] KEvolution v1.1 - Galaxy 3 Android Development

Hi everyone!
I made my own ROM and want to share it with G3 community
KEvolution v1.0 features:
Based on Marcellusbe's CM7.2 RC3 (Alpha8.3 port for Galaxy3). [Android 2.3.7]
Deodexed
Prerooted
Custom kernel- G3MOD v2.5:
- CWM v5.0.2.8 Touch Recovery
- Multiboot
- Overclock up to 1,2 GHz
- Governors: lagfree, conservative, ondemand, userspace, powersave and performance
- Voodoo v10
- Hybrid Data2SD (it works like apps2sd script, available on first boot if you have SD card partitioned)
Zipaligned
2 launchers: Holo and TW
Custom theme (ICS by achep)
Custom bootanimation (CM9 bootanimation)
Removed some useless apps: Gallery3D, Voice Dialer, Development, Spare Parts, Protips, RomManager, Sound Recorder, Download Provider, Html viewer, Latin Ime Tutorial, Livewallpapers
Added apps: QuickPic, ES File Explorer, SuperSU, Terminal Emulator, XDA, Voodoo Control
CM9 sounds
Custom wallpaper
Kyrillos' tweaks (from his ROM):
- build.prop tweaks
- modded mms.apk
- Kyrillos-tweaks script
- adfree
- full APN for instant internet access
Not working list is same as our CM7 port:
Bluetooth- A2DP
Video recording
Sometimes video can lag
Some games with graphic not yet supported by OpenFIMG drivers
How to install:
Flash it as an update.zip package through recovery.
I'll provide ODIN package later on. If you don't have recovery there's workaround. Download G3MOD v2.5 kernel, flash it and enter recovery by pushing VOL+ and VOL- and HOME keys when powering on. Then Update.zip->Select .zip from Sdcard and choose KEvoultion vx.x.zip. Wait and then Go Back, Reboot and use.
Changelog:
v1.1
- QuickPic is now working
- Switched apps2sd script to Hybrid Data2SD, so apps are now installed on sd_ext partition
v1.0

Everyone who makes a ROM seems to make the quickpic mistake @dev, you need to extract the quickpic apk and move the lib file to /system/lib.

rom flashing
How to flash this rom??there is no.tar file here

@up There is no tar you flash it via recovery. If you are on CM7 you can flash it trough recovery immediately, but if you are on froyo first flash a CM7 rom via Odin(for example Kyrillos 10.6 it has a tar file) and then flash this via recovery.

So yeah, I think we are at a point when I'll need your help!
I don't have any further ideas how to improve this ROM. Everything is working fine and updating just for changing look isn't the best idea. Please post your ideas for improvements, what you want to have in your ROM of dreams etc.
And now my plans!
I just started my winter holidays and I will have a lot of free time so I'm planning to compile my own kernel and make a wide search for new features I will be able to include in the next version of ROM.
Still waiting for feedback!

If you have the knowledge, a kernel is a waste of time. Make a Github and use your knowledge to fix the bugs on CM7 like the camera/video camera, playing videos, openfimg drivers etc.

[ROM] Tha Boss Rom V.4 - Froyo,Signed,Deodexed,BossMode,Scripts,Kernal

This is just a basic rom for the user that wants that stock feel but wants some power out of it. I have put alot of work into making this one of the best roms out for the Evo. This rom is great on battery and it also gives you the power and control you would like. Make sure you follow me on twitter to get updates on all of the future versions of this rom. I would also like to thank you all for supporting this rom, without you this would not happen.

To overclock download Set Cpu from the market. It is worth the $2.00 = )
Scripts:
zipalign_apks
cpuinfo
blockads
How to use scripts:
Type the name into a adb shell or into a terminal emulator.
About BossMode:
Typing "BossMode" into adb shell or a terminal emulator will give access to and allow you to edit many parts of the system using any file manager.
For example, if you wish to delete system apps you can simply run "godmode", open Astro File Manager, long press the app, and delete it (don't forget to back it up first!). Also, if you wish to edit (using Astro) the build.prop, sysctl.conf, or install-recovery.sh files "BossMode" will allow you to do so. In short, "BossMode" can turn Astro File Manager into Root Explorer.Remember this is a beta so it might have a bug or two but nothing extreme. It will be out of beta next release.
Plans for V.5:
More scripts

I would love to have Bluetooth mouse, keyboard and HDMI out all working and make this my Android pc. This phone is awesome!
I know Cyanogen has been working on Bluetooth option but they have yet to come out with a stabile rom. I have try a few nightly builds and there not bad.
I respect all rom developers for there time.
Thank you
anyone else having problems installing the new voice search on this rom?

voicemail?
I put this ROM on my Sprint EVO a few hours ago and just noticed that I no longer have anything for voicemail available under either apps or widgets other than Google Voice which I don't use.
What happened? I was already rooted and using the BakedSnack ROM but had problems with voicemail on that one too; apps were there but I never got notifications when I had messages. That was the whole reason I moved to this ROM. I wiped the unit first and followed all the steps to flash the new ROM.
What did I do wrong????

[ROM] GingerFroyo 1.0 (2012-01-14)

GingerFroyo 1.0This is only a themed ROM! OkHi guys! Here I am with this Froyo ROM
Because I'm not happy with Gingerbread ROMS (Feel slow to me compared with Froyo) I decided to "port" this theme to this ROM and put this Bootanimation, the result: GingerFroyo
I'm not a dev ok, I just bareboned, optimize some apks and themed NameLessFroyo because I like very much this ROM it's smooth and stable, and I like how Gingerbread looks.
I also bareboned tiny gapps because I don't need a lot of things and we can download from market (Gmail, Maps, Search...). If you need youtube and don't see it in market you can download from here. Please read NameLessFroyo Thread for Overview.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Update!
Some people don't like CM based roms so I decide to "port" this theme to a AOSP based rom (DREAMteam Froyo v1.9.1)
This is an extremely barebones rom just includes basics apks ok (No youtube, gmail, maps, etc.) also removed almost all of ringtones, notifications, alarms, fonts...
If you use Custom MTD:
system: 63 (with my gapps, don't know with different gapps)
cache: 2
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Update!
-Optimized apk's
-Added all fonts (Some apps didn't showed correctly some chars)
-Changed some notification bar colors (now looks more like gingerbread)
-Added 32m of VM Heap Size to default
-Reverted 160 for dpi (didn't showed some apps on market with 150 dpi)
-Changed dial pad (now looks like gingerbread)
-Added latest superuser and su binary
-Added latest android terminal emulator

[Q&A]
This section hopefully addresses some common questions. Read this before posting any questions.
Before asking anything, clear cache and dalvik cache and see if it fixes the problem.
Browser unable to load anything despite 3G working? See here.
Q: Where is 3D gallery/video/gaming? How can I get it?
A: Never, until LG open-sources their proprietary Real3D framework. Now stop asking. Please?
Q: I don't want CM! I still want 3D!
A: Look elsewhere. There are great stock roms by ThiaiZ and The Dark Lestat as well as Meemo23 on this forum
Q: Must I wipe data? I have a lot of apps and data!
A: From experience, you must wipe when you install this rom for the first time. Afterwards, you can just wipe cache and dalvik cache and install the apps again. DO NOT restore Titanium backups since it will virtually leave your phone in the state it was before factory resetting.
Q: When I boot my phone, LauncherPro doesn't start/hangs/shows a black screen!
A: It is a well known problem with LauncherPro. Just press and hold the back button until a popup appears, then select "force close".
Q: I want to overclock Can I flash TitanKernel?
A: Flashing a stock kernel on CM will result in bootloops. Although overclocking is not needed for this rom since it's so fast and smooth already, you can use the overclockable modules here to overclock, and read the instructions there. Make sure you download the CM compatible modules and not the other modules.
Q: Do I need a task killer?
A: No! Task killers are not needed on a rom like this In fact, they can cause more problems than they solve...
Q: Where do I change the themes?
A: After installing the rom, go to the apps list and scroll down until you find Theme Chooser. From there, you can choose the corresponding theme you want. If it says that it is missing files, ignore it and apply the files anyway. Try Lucid and Vivid, they are exclusive to this rom only as they are paid themes on Play Store. However, Sonny (the developer of the themes) kindly allowed me to use his themes for free. Support Sonny by purchasing his themes here and here for your other phones Also, his ICS theme is included for you to mock those without ICS or its lookalikes
Q: Where do I get the LauncherPro themes for the themes?
A: The ICS and Lucid themes are already in the rom. There is no LauncherPro theme for Vivid if I'm not mistaken.
Q: How do I make my LauncherPro dock look like it came from ICS?
Download this and this. Extract the zip file to a folder your phone's sdcard. To set icons, long tap on the individual icons in the dock, select change icon, custom icon then browse to the correct icon. For the dock, tap the settings button in homescreen > preference > appearance settings > dock background > custom > [folder of icons] hhhha.png. If the icons do not appear, reboot your phone and it will appear. Done!
Q: Why is [app] not working?
A: Ask the developers of [app]. Only ask if it's root-related or is affected by busybox or something related to what I added in the rom.
Q: Can you include RTL support?
A: Try CM first. I have no idea if RTL is included as there are 3 Arabic languages in Languages so you tell me if it's included
Q: Why is xxx feature not working?
A: Don't ask me because I'm not the developer of CyanogenMod You can report functionality issues here. Examples of what should be reported to the CyanogenMod team would be call echoes, although they will not accept any reports of problems when you use this rom as they only want reports from stock CyanogenMod users. Only ask here if it's related to the tweaks I made.

Hi, I can try that over the weekend. However, the reason I based this on CM is because LG stock roms lag too badly Nonetheless, I will give it a try and see if there's a noticeable performance hit. If it isn't too bad, I'll put that up instead to get the best of both worlds
How is the battery behaving? Thanks.
wifi work only 5 min
Nice to see more people getting involved in the O3D world i will try your rom soon...

On idle it drains pretty slowly, about 3% overnight. It lasts one and a half days or so
for me, ymmv depending on your usage.

any screenshots available?
Can you clarify which version of CM 7.2 you are using?
It sounds fickle but there's stable, release candidate, nightly etc. along with different but similar devices p920, p970, etc.
In p920 directory alone, today there is:
update-cm-7-20120410-NIGHTLY-p920-signed.zip
update-cm-7-20120403-NIGHTLY-p920-signed.zip
update-cm-7-20120402-NIGHTLY-p920-signed.zip
update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-p920-signed.zip
cm_p920_full-49.zip
cm_p920_full-48.zip
It makes a big difference if we are to then debug found issues, particularly with the famous ghost call/radio baseband issues. It is rumoured that the very latest CM7.2 for p920 fixes these.
Cheers
Leon
Ps. It may be handy too if you could also create a kitchen ROM version, so people can flash over the latest nightly CM7.2 ontop of your existing patch (or vice-versa)

Try reading the main post. Near the top.
As for the second part, for future updates there's no need to wipe data, just clearing cache and dalvik cache will do. You only need to wipe data for the first install.

Will do that once I get hold of my computer. Most tweaks are not visible since they are performance tweaks, but will post some screenies up anyway.

The kit largely automates rooting, baseband flashing and CWM flashing. If you don't need any of it you can skip the preparation kit and install the rom straightaway.

@all
I am really sorry but i cannot post the screenshots and cannot work in the rom till 31st because my phone is with my father. And he is not letting me do it because i have my exams going. I would post the screenshots on 31st. However i checked the rom for 2 days and it had an excellent battery life around 1 day on 3g. I also hope the backlight bug is fixed since i did some patches with the help of my friend who is a dev.
I am really sorry for not uploading the screenshots but i will do it positively
Till that time i hope that other members of galaxy sl community will try this rom and comment on battery life and performance.
Thank you.

howz battery drain??
Stupid IMHO and not sense,
if everyone will make CROM with "some" tweak without fix or do anything but simply copy and paste, this forum will fail, like XXKPQ, this is stupid fork every rom in 50 custom rom all like and only different themed,
your rom is different from vurrut's aokp ( only man that compile from source, it's right ) only for compass app and sound:
Code:
Vurrut Kernel included
Compass // it's difference
Apex launcher // vurrut's build has
Usb mass storage app // vurrut's build has
Solid Explorer // vurrut's build has
Awesome Build prop tweaks to improve performance // in ics tweaks are less effective but this is simple edit file text
Galaxy S3 awesome sounds // vurrut hasn't
New CM9 Music Apollo (Forgot to inlcude . Link given) // Vurrut forgot to include
Microphone Fix included
Youtube Lag fix
this is not critical, but observation, like xxkpq, what's the sense to fork 5 times same rom with same bug? everywanna will be a xda cooker?
xda has many cooker, but none of them develop
thanks

I know there are less differences. But the tweaks are effective and it has a made a lot of difference is performance and battery life. Even the zip has made a noticable difference . I need to say one thing , try it and feel the difference

Correct me if I am wrong but you have picked UT36104's AOKP ROM and added a few apps, tweaks and few Sounds. Right ?
I always encourage new things and innovations and what you did is also appreciable except of the fact that you did not give enough Credit where it is rightly due. Just one glance in /system/app and you know it is UT's ROM. Write in OP that it is based on his ROM and give due credit.
I appreciate that you took the pain to bring in some optimizations which is the most important and yet most ignored. Although I failed to see how those build.prop lines would affect battery Plz explain. Thanks !
Good Luck !
Edit 1 : Did not boot
Edit 2 : Check your updater script again. My humble suggestion is remove the link and upload new zip with correct updater-script. ROM instal script is not that easy
many thanks for ur efforts and for the other developpers too, the rom is awesome!
unfortuntly i've an issue with the external sd card : the media files stored in mnt/emmc don't appear in the music or gallery app. the same thing happens with other apps picked from the market (mx video player, musixmatch...) but i can see the files in astro manager!
i googled it and found some solutions : full wipe, reflash the rom, look for and delete .nomedia files, clearing data for "Media Storage app" and rescan (cm wiki) and no one of those propositions worked for me
ps : i've got the same problem with cm9
any suggestion ?
Edit : problem solved by retring the solution given in the wiki.
thank u

Take off AD2SDX as it's not good with stock HBOOT due to it's small data partition. As the Dalvik grows over time the internal space will get filled up very quickly and lead to low memory errors

Ofcourse then custom hboot will be used and system will be shrunk down to increase data partition. So its still an option.
Thalamus custom hboot patcher works awesome so no issues creating custom partition.

Amazing work here, truly impressed! One question though, is camera working for anyone? I try taking a picture and it just FC. Apart from that I'm in love with this ROM, so advanced man..And really fast, fluid, smooth and whatnot - I rarely say this about an ICS/JB rom...Thumbs up man, keep it going!

Only one little thing...
Only one little thing: Please, remove that SuperSU and put Superuser back! SuperSU is soooo damn slow and not always working. So please, bring the Superuser back! I dont understand why you changed it! Otherwise the ROM is awesome! Its even faster and smoother. Hope the battery life is better too as its very unefficiently compared to the Sense 3,5 ROMs.
