My brother's SGS3 got an update to LG1, but he is stock an unrooted. I am using Root66 and is is on LF2. Does Root66 prevent OTA's or is this just a hodgpe podge of versions with no real structure at all?
Which provider does he have?

No OTA, but all new phones have what will be our OTA at some point.

I hope mine comes with the update.
Whenever I try to update I get a pop up that says "service unavailable"
Is there a way to update by putting the update file on my phone?
Thanks

Is this possible? Help!
Can't I download the zip of the update somewhere? I'm not to worried about small updates, I'm more concerened about whenever the jellybean update comes out.

All you have to do is flash a Rom with whatever update or features that you want.

I'm stock and didn't plan on rooting. I used to do all that with the original HTC EVO and it took up way too much of my time... so I was just wondering if there's a place where all the updates are in a zip format so I can apply any updates manually

Yes. People pull the downloaded ota and your can flash it in stock recovery. I have the lg7 update straight from Verizon if you want it. I think it only works on lf2. If your on lg1 I think you need a different one.
Edit: I'm going into work so I'm gonna post it for you just in case your welcome. This is not modified in any way whatsoever.

If you're stock and not rooted, you should be getting updates over the air from Verizon, you don't need to apply them manually.

I am not trying to be rude but did you read my original post? When I try to update OTA I get a popup saying "Service Unavailable" It's like my phone isn't connecting to Verizon's servers to get the OTA. So I need to apply them manually, unfortunately...if possible

Sorry, I missed that. As long as you aren't rooted and haven't otherwise messed with the phone at all, I'd go ahead and call Verizon and see what they can do. You should be getting updates OTA and if you are not through no fault of your own, it's their responsibility to fix it, especially with the huge security hole that was found in these phones recently.
I had a VW S3 that wasn't receiving the update for OTA and when I talked to the rep he said to use Kies. Kies does say that it will update your phone but I had a problem connecting it. The only way the app will update is if you have your phone connected through USB. I tried and tried and tried but I couldn't get the computer to see my phone in the Kies program to sync it. It would connect through WiFi real quick.

Give Samsung a call because on the website it does away that Kies will update your software over USB.

Anyways, Ever since I've upgraded to ICS, I've been having serious cell-related network connection problems on my tmobile iemi-unlocked atrix 2, mb865(NOT Wi-Fi connectivity problems.) My signal is constantly going from 5-1 bars (several times a minute) in places where I previously experienced a solid 5 bars with gingerbread and my (also unlocked, on tmobile) iPhone 2g. Also, my carrier logo is disappearing and reappearing many times a minute as well. (Even when I have 5 bars.) Sometimes , I just get a red triangle with a white cross inside of it where the bars should be.
Sometimes, these problems are temporarily fixed when I enter airplane mode for a few seconds, then exit it. But within 15 minutes of exiting, I begin experiencing the same problems. Other times, they aren't fixed through entering/exiting airplane mode , and I have to reboot the device.
My question is, will installing a rom perhaps fix these problems? Since my network was fine on gingerbread, it's obviously not a hardware problem. I'm rooted, of course (but before rooting I experienced these problems as well.)
I obtained the iemi through at&t and not a shady third party unlocking business, if that makes any difference.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Well it can't hurt to try a new rom.... wait it can haha but yes sometime even a factory restore can fix a lot of random issues. My buddy was running stock gingerbread on his phone and it had a messed up usb port. I then put CM7 on it and it worked magically so it is a possibility. I am currently running numa and it fixed my wifi issue where it would randomly turn off. But I think a good old factory restore could maybe fix it,
Try changing network selection from automatic to either 2g or 3g..it worked for me on my searet ota..

Alright! I guess I'll try the restore first. Do you think it'll wipe my unlock? And I have titanium backup, so after I restore I can just restore things from it?

I believe your unlock will be there still. I could be wrong though. And if you have a sdcard it will be unaffected by the factory restore and new ROMs. But its a good idea to back it up every blue moon. And yes you can get your apps and app data back with titanium backup. Make sure it stores to sdcard and the same with ROMs.

I guess. Does the warranty last for a year?
Also, I backed up to titanium, did a factory reset, and restored from titanium. I still have the same problem. Could I possibly freeze some apps (using Gemini app manager) that involve the sim card? Would that avail to anything?

Yes. At least in my country the warranty is for one year. But, if you bought it the phone with the two year contract i think, the warranty should last two years.
And the other thing, i have no idea man. Sorry. I never experienced that, and i don't know what happen there. But, my advice is that you must go to the warranty and try.

I had the non us version of the nexus s. It was stuck on 2.3.3. I dont recall where i got the update( I downloaded one from one of the threads on xda as there was no update available whenever I checked for ota) but I flashed it with 2.3.6. After that I received notifications for ics 4.0 then after applying that ota I got one for 4.0.4 I believe then one for jelly bean 4.1.2. Though all the updates went fine now I dont get signal on any network. When I look for manual network search it shows unknown network found and I cant connect. Could this be because I might have flashed a cdma version? If so how can i go back to stock 4.1.2 for the gsm model?

Got the same thing just 5 minutes ago.. installed it.. anybody have a changelog?
Here's the full changelog from Samsung's site:
Android 4.3 OS upgrade
Samsung Galaxy Gear compatibility
Group Play 2.5
Samsung Apps
Knox
Drag and drop to uninstall or disable applications
Call reliability improvements
The new update is build number 1337UCUEMK2 – the last one was 1337UCUEMJ9. So Samsung had to change something, but the very short turnaround time indicates it wasn't anything major (some users reported keyboard issues on MJ9). The update is pretty hefty at 719MB if you're coming from the Android 4.2 software. There is also a patch from MJ9 to MK2 for people who got the last OTA that clocks in at just 28.07MB. Begin hammering the update button – no promises, though.

I can say this. It was no ordinary update even though coming from the mj9 one it was only 28.07mb's. It did something to the phone to finally take away the lag. I think Samsung finally got the phone working right. I'm pretty happy with my s4 now.

So I came from an rooted MF3 install, but I have done a factory reset to try and get the update. Even now, I can't seem to get a response from hitting the "Software Update" button. Does anyone have any suggestions? Confused as to why I can't get it to report to me...

You don't expect people to actually read before they post do you? I mean, it's only common sense and the XDA rules. Why would most of these people do something smart like that? 90% of the threads are from people that either didn't or can't read.

This new update seems to have fixed the messaging app, before it was all messed up on the first 4.3 update.
Also another thing that seems fixed is the developer options, I would turn off all animations but it wouldn't stick as they would turn back on on their own.
