[Q] First Time Flasher - Stuck, what's next? - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

Heya! I've followed the install instructions in this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997251
I got to step 5, "enter recovery, on boot led will be violet for 3'', during this period press vol+ ".
I wasn't quick enough on pressing the volume button so it started loading wich didnt do much good i noticed after a while. (stuck on loading)
Soo, i removed my battery to restart the phone, after wich i managed to enter recovery mode only to find myself not knowing how to execute #6, "flash rom zip".
I tried this aswell;
"1) enter recovery at first : after u switch on d phone, when the pink light comes, press up volume key to enter recovery
2) connect your phone to computer using usb cable
3) go to mounts and storage and mount /system and /data.....this will enable ADB in recovery mode
4) now put ur rom zip in the ADB folder of ur computer and start adb and type "adb devices" (without the quotes)
5) if it shows some sort of numbers, then the device is connected successfully
6) in adb. type "adb push /ROM.zip /sdcard" (without the quotes) (ROM.zip is the name of the rom)
7) then reboot recovery, go to flash zip and chose the rom zip and enjoy!"
I fail at #5, since it wont show any numbers. It wont find the device. Many hours of googling and trying different things the result is the same, and im stuck with a phone that wont boot to OS.
What do i do now? Any help appreciated! :victory:

In recovery mode,
Install zip form SD card > install zip from external SD card (if you have put the downloaded zip in your external SD card)
Oh you have to press volume up and down to highlight option, and power button to select it.
Hit Thanks if I helped you!

My options is as follows;
1. Choose zip from sdcard (i can only access the Tipo internal memory from here, not my removable SD)
2. Apply /sdcard/update.zip
3. Toggle signature verification
4. Back
I can't access my phone storage from my PC either, since the drives wont show. I've tried all drives and such that i've found, but nothing works.
Is there any way i can reverse what i have done (remove clockwork or such) to get my phone to boot again?
Or a way to access my memory, so i can add the zip to the internal storage?
Have i bricked my phone?
Thanks!

You have not bricked your phone. relax.
Well you have to select first option, then under that there should be another line saying 'select zip from external SD card ' or something like that (if I remember correctly) . If that does not work there is a workaround where you use push file via adb. I'm not too familiar with that but will pm you if I find out where I read it.
And now- to revert back,
Download the world fs ftf file found here (its rootable) -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001567
Download flashtool latest (search) and install (fastboot and flash drivers in particular)
Place downloaded ftf file in c/flashtool /firmware
press flash and follow instructions.
Your on stock fw now. Remember to place zip in internal card if you are attempting cm10 again
Hit Thanks if I helped you!

Woo, somehow i managed to install the stuff! It wont send sound to my headphones though, other then that it's all good.
Thanks for taking your time!

Summary of the SD card ROM backup/update method

While a lot has been written, the following should provide an easy-to-follow guide:
Preparation:
1. A torch (read on and you will know why)
2. 256M SD card
3. Download ntrw.exe, romupdate.exe, hexedfull.exe from the ftp of this forum to c:\ and install hex editor
4. Download the appropriate ROM file (hereafter referred to as "newrom.nb1").
5. Cancel USB in ActiveSync
6. Use Sprite Backup to backup your ppc
Backup original ROM:
1. Put pocket pc into the boot loader mode (hold both on/off and camera buttons at the same time while resetting).
2. Insert empty SD card.
3. Connect pocket pc to pc through USB.
4. Run romupdate.exe on pc.
5. Select “\\.\WCEUSBSH001” in port settings. In the popup windows, enter “d2s” and press enter.
6. Don’t get panic to see the pocket pc screen goes dark. Use your torch and you will see the download percentage. Wait until it reaches 100% and shows “CheckSum is OK!”.
7. Insert SD card into card reader of the pc. Ignore the “format SD card” message and click “No”.
8. Run “command” to go into DOS prompt and change to root directory (cd c:\). Enter “ntrw read oldrom.nb1 s:” where s is the drive of your SD card.
9. Ignore the “Data error <cyclic redundancy check>” message. You should save another copy of this important rom file “oldrom.nb1”.
Change header of newrom.nb1:
1. Right click on oldrom.nb1 to open hex editor. Copy the first 416 bytes.
2. Open the downloaded newrom.nb1 file and overwrite the first 416 bytes with those of the old rom.
3. Save the edited newrom.nb1. You may save another copy of this important file.
4. Go to the command prompt and enter “ntrw write newrom.nb1 s:” to write it to the SD card. Ignore the error message “The parameter is incorrect”.
Update the ROM:
1. Insert SD card into pocket pc and put it to boot loader mode again (on/off + camera + reset). Use you torch to check the dark screen.
2. When it shows “Press Power to flash”, press the on/off button. Wait until it reaches 100% and ignore the message “Download Fail - CheckSum Fail”
3. Soft reset your pocket pc.
4. You may have to reinstall your software, unless you are familiar with the advanced features of Sprite Backup.
Ask you a question.
Does it backup 3 parts of rom (OS rom, extended rom and Radio rom)?
I am trying to backup my old Qtek Rom so I can install an update. I follow the steps to perfection..
The file created by ntrw is 999Mb big and at the end of the file I get an error stating that "parameters are incorrect"
Does this mean that the backup was not done successfully?
Why is the file so large?
Thanks for your help
ntrw get image SD card. Use SD card 256 Mb.
SD Card update problem
Hi I used ntrw.exe to backup my original rom to an SD card. It all went ok and I was able to clear the SD, write the rom back on the SD and put it in my M500. Normally I got a menu to press the power button to flash the rom to my phone, but now whatever I do I can't get the menu back. I won't get the option "Press power button" to flash. What I also see is that somethimes when I put the SD back in my laptop it is totaly empty. Normaly it would ask me if I want to format the SD because it can't be read. Can anybody help??
Thanks!
Dear All,
this is my first time to this site.
Could you please send me the download links for the files that are necessary (or the files themeselves) to backup the ROM (ntrw.exe, romupdate.exe, hexedfull.exe )
Thanks a million.
Will
i found this http://www.ccoo.net/MDAFlash/ntrw.exe
Thank you for this wonderful guide !!!
I am trying to backup my I-Mate JAM's ROM with a 256 MB SD card. However I have a similiar problem where when the ntrw.exe completed with the same "parameters are incorrect" error. The created ROM image is about 247,040 KB.
Is this correct? I did make sure the SD card is empty before the backup process (by deleteing everyfile on it), or should I use some proper method to ensure the SD card is actually completely empty?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Mine came up with that every time, but worked ok. I am trying to do the Anasky ROM update to my magician, and the backup i made of the original rom was fine to restore, even though i got that error.

someone in this forum told us that the rom size is vary and closed to the size of your sd card.
I used 128mb to backup and restore, it worked fine.
Has anyone experienced the problem of trying to reflash the device with the SD and when placed in Bootldr, the display just says serial and never progresses to press power to flash??
thanks
Jim
turn off the USB connection in your activesync, it will interfere the upgrade.
Found the fault, I reconnected the USB whilst entering the bootldr with the SD in socket and worked fine... Quite strange though as I couldnt remember having the USB connected the lasst time I performed the process

Hi All,
I was stuck at the Serial for a Looooooong time. Nothing worked. Until I did the following:
1) Using HHDHexeditor, copy the first 416byte (NOT 220byte!)
2) Write the copied original backup ROM into the new ROM (.nb1 file)
3) Put into your 02 Mini
4) VERY IMPORTANT! - Plug into your USB PORT!
5) Then I see the "Press Power button to Flash!"
and I am happily flashing my device now ... My guess is that it needs to be on external power in order to upgrade .... Thanks everyone .. can't wait to see my new baby with 27Mb storage!
I'm using 256Mb SD Card ....
Alvin
How can i know the backup file name stored in the memory card? (*.nb1)
Thx~~
i am not seeing the popup window in which to select "d2s"...can anyone help?
update: Ok, so i was just temporarily blind! Have managed to continue and have fingers crossed it is ok.
2. When it shows “Press Power to flash”, press the on/off button. Wait until it reaches 100% and ignore the message “Download Fail - CheckSum Fail”
3. Soft reset your ppc.
After this.... how I do the soft reset with my ppc?? Connect or diconnect with the USB?? Coz I can't turn it back to the normal from boot loader mode even I do soft or hard reset after the rom flashing.......why??

[Q] help w/ clockworkmod

Hi everyone, I'm a new android/gtab user and looking for some help with installing clockworkmod. I've followed some instructions from this web site. It looks like the installation goes through successfully because I see "Detect a recovery key pressed" followed by "Booting recovery kernel image" after pressing Power and Vol+. A package gets installed and the device reboots normally. they I power down again and try to enter clockworkmod by pressing the Power and Vol+ again and it just keeps doing the same thing over and over. I have in my root the update.zip file and a recovery folder. Am I supposed to delete these after installing? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Once the tablet boots once it deletes the command file in the recovery folder
Thanks, I've read it through and had the files on the internal SD card exactly as the image in the link shows. I get the message in the upper left corner saying "Detect a Recovery Key Pressed", and then a 2nd line that reads "Recovery Image Detected. After that I see the cardboard box. The tablet then reboots as normal and I do not see any signs of a clockworkmod menu. Can I use the built in data erase function to restore it back to factory conditions and start over? I have rooted it with z4root.

If you are installing from the internal sdcard make sure the line in the "command" file says "SDCARD" not "SDCARD2"
/sdcard/update.zip
/sdcard/recovery/command
The command file deletes every time you boot into recovery even if it doesn't install cwm. Make sure the file is there and pointing to the right sdcard.
You have to reboot after installing to get into the clockwork menu. Power/Vol+. If it doesn't go to cwm recovery it is not installed
Thank you very much! That did it! I did read your suggested link carefully but I guess I just didn't understand it enough to really "get it"
Thanks again!

i hate to start this up again but i'm having the same issue and followed the steps from the other thread about cwm and roms.. to my understanding i followed the instructions and downloaded the file then exstracted it and putting the update.zip file & recovery fold on my enternal sd card but each time i do this it boots up and the two lines of txt appear but once i delete the folders and push the pwr & vol + buttons it just boots up normal again. i think i may be doing something wrong while labeling the files but i've done this at least 8 times already and no dice.. i'm at the point of returning it if i cant manage to get this to work unfortunately i was so excited to get this tablet with such high hopes but now its just a head ache, well if anyone wouldn't mind to give me some pointers, i would be greatly thankful.

SDCARD!
Jalladi,
That is exactly what mine was doing until I edited the COMMAND file that is in the Recovery folder. In my case, I installed CWM on my internal card. After editing the COMMAND file to point to SDCARD instead of SDCARD2, it worked correctly. I used Notepad in Windows to edit the file while connected to my laptop.
Good luck!
Thanks for this forum, worked like a charm. FYI the command file does not have an extension (ie .txt).
I'm sorry I still don't understand, I'm trying to install on the internal card, but just keeps restarting. I see the recovery folder with command file. It doesn't have anything about sdcard or sdcard2. What do I do with the file to correct?
Thank you for your help!!

When you download CWM, you extract the contents of the file. The contents are an update.zip file and a recovery folder with a command file in there (no extension on the command file at all). The command file will have only one of the two lines below, depending on where you are installing from:
--update_package=SDCARD:/update.zip
--update_package=SDCARD2:/update.zip
SDCARD is the internal memory of the tablet, whereas SDCARD2 is the MicroSD card that you have in the SD Slot on the side of the tablet. The update.zip file and recovery folder with the command file inside of it should be placed on the root location of either your internal memory or your MicroSD card. I hope this helps. Good luck.

[Q] In ClockwordMod Recovery but no Cyanogen Mod update zip

Galaxy S2 GTi9100
Hi,
I rooted my phone today and am now trying to install Cyanogen Mod. I followed all steps on their Wiki but now am facing a problem.
- The wiki says "Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card. "
- I placed the update .zip file on the root of the external sd card. Seems like that was not what was intended.
- I followed these steps successfully:
Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
Optional: Select backup and restore to create a backup of current installation on the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.- The next step is "Select the CyanogenMod update.zip. "
The problem is I don't see the CyanogenMod update .zip file anywhere in that list. Seems like I may have placed it in the wrong sd card?
When I try and reboot it just comes to the screen with the giant S and goes no further.
How can I resolve this problem?
Adding some more information after reading a few other threads.
- Looks like I placed the cyanogen mod update .zip file in the external sd and not the internal one (stupid!!).
Now I cannot get back inside the phone to try and place it in the internal sd.
How do I solve this?
Connect the phone to the PC and mount usb in recovery. You should see a storage device in windows & then just copy the files on it.
Ok. Just tried that. After I select 'mount usb storage', the next screen says on the top:
USB Mass Storage device
Leaving this menu unmount
your SD card from your PC
I then see an option to unmount.
On Windows explorer, I don't see the device.
Thinking back, I may have unchecked 'USB Debugging' before I started the process (for some reason that I cannot remember now). Would that cause a problem?
USB Debugging should not matter because you're in recovery.
I've not understand at well the question. You want flash the CM9 from clockwork mod? I've a Galaxy Gio, but in my case i have only to:
1 - copy the ROM in the root( after flash with manager of Android, with an SD adapter or in the other possible way)
2 - backup the old rom from cwm;
3 - reboot in cwm and if i have mount errors of /cache /data or some other partition i format it and mount it manually from cwm
4 - flash the zip i've copied at step 1
Then you have to wait and at the end, reboot.
What goes wrong in these steps for you ?
EDIT: If you don't see the .zip try to remove SD and use a SD Adapter, so you can copy files manually. Or if you want use CWM you can mount the device connecting device with USB cable, go in clockwork and do "mounts and storage -> mount USB storage" and copy files in the root "/"
You can use adb push command in recovery to push files to the phone.
You can also use fastboot to flash image files to the phone.

Little did I realise that this simple sounding statement above would require me to set up a complete android development environment on my computer.
I'm still not sure if all that was needed but I was finally able to get the files on my device by doing an adb push.
Lovely education for me today!
Glad it helped. Sorry I forgot to mention that ... it's kinda natural to me (having the sdk installed).

[Q] stuck in boot loop

I've got my tf300t stuck in a boot loop when i turned it on today. (Ive looked around the forums for this issue already and been able to find little or no solutions that work for me)
I'm using cm10 and twrp. last night i shut the tablet off as usual and go to turn it on today and i cant get past the white asus logo and device unlocked screen.
I can access my twrp recovery menu, wiping dalvik returns a "E:Unable to mount '/data' (tw_mount)" cache wipes fine no errors.
I'm unable to flash another rom or restore from a back up as well.
Fastboot says its working but in cmd prompt it wont list the device. (computer recognizes it and it shows in device manager as android adb interface)
If there is any other information needed I will be more than happy to provide it.
any tips or help is greatly appreciated.
thanks in advanced.
I'm not yet very fammiliar yet with TF300, but from SGS 1 and ICS I remember one trick. If you have external microSD pluged, take it out or of you don't have it plug it in and then enter TWRP.
It probably won't work but you can try anyway.
Does TWRP have any file browser? I'm using CWM so I don't know much about TWRP.

Yeah it does have the file browser, upon initial booting i can browse an sd card ( i have a few of various sizes none seem to to be having any affect) and i can browse the internal storage as well. Booting both with and without the sd card in the device still leaves me in the boot loop.
So, can you copy new rom to sd card, then copy from sd to internal and install new rom? I think only option you have is to reinstall rom.

Be sure your sdk is up to date.
1. If you hold volume down plus power button to get to fastboot.
2. shift + control right click fastboot folder on computer then open command prompt.
3. type devices... and if it is not showing a device there something is not right.
4. you can try adb push to apply a flash if your device is not wanting to flash from sd card.

I've tried this as well. It was my first thought. Also it states in my original post that fastboot doesnt list my device, adb doesnt list it as well. Both are recent and up to date. However device manager does recognize it and windows makes the little notification sound. In safely remove devices it shows up as fastboot when i enable fastboot on the device.
