Didn't like the brownish color to much so I painted it somewhat flat black.
Looks better in real life.
My 2nd mod will be to add a second battery on top of the original one.
Will have to do some electric soldering and cut the back of the battery cover.
Won't do this till they start to sell the OEM battery cover.
I also painted it in white and looked really nice. But I'm liking the black a bit better.
If anyone would like to have his/hers cover done let me know.
Btw, sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Looks nice. What kind of paint did you use? Also, did you sand the battery cover and primer before painting it?
That looks really good, what paint did you use?
Although I admit adding a second battery wouldn't be to my aesthetic tastes.
"I hate how thw top speaker is black"
I don't understand? You mean the top where the hdmi is?
White did look really nice, its has to be the right kind of red for it to look good.
And thanks for the compliment.

I'm thinking after I make a perfect cut, I will fiberglass a cover for it (round it out around the battery). Than sand it SMOOTH and paint it any color I want. It will look OEM for sure. And will be NICE to hold in the hand too! Will NOT be that thick at all. Will have DOUBLE the battery life.
If they come out with a 2800MaH(or higher) it will save me time in the soldering 2 batteries. All I will need to do is the fiberglass battery cover.
"Looks nice. What kind of paint did you use? Also, did you sand the battery cover and primer before painting it?"
It's a paint that sticks to just about anything, I only sanded the edges to help stick.
Btw, I had to remove the lens cover and the brushed aluminum google "plack" or whatever it's called. Otherwise it would not look oem because of the edges would have paint on them. Taped it up the first time when i painted it white and the edges looked terrible. Removing it looks like factory.
What paint did you use specifically?

I know its been a while, but OP are you still around? I am wondering how you got the "plaque" off
I'd also be interested in what paint you used. I'd love to try out white on my wife's phone and black on mine.
Interesting that the type of paint is apparently a minor trade secret.
I would think that the type of paint made to stick to plastic models might work well. Testors brand, IIRC, is available in hobby shops. (Do not deliberately concentrate and inhale, you might end up like me!)
How easy was it to get the plaque off. Was it glued or some sort of sticky tape???
Looks like it came that way!!!

I've ordered cases from ebay and I'm interested in customizing them by drawing designs on the back with sharpie(design is attached). My only problem is that I know it's gonna wear off and I was wondering if anyone knew how to make the design permanent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
im no expert but maybe you can put a thin layer of varnish on it?

Doesn't matter how many legs you give it. The shape and size makes the top of it's head look like the tip of a penis. With veins, too.
Wow, this made my day a whole lot better............
You could use a clear coat spray i would think. They sell it at auto parts stores. Made to spray over paint. Although it may seal it, it wont protect from pregnancy or STDs..
PS. If the clear coat doesn't work, maybe you could put a condom over it? That should protect it

you could argue that the 2 limbs are in the backside of the pictures.
But I think your updated version looks more like the bottom view of a penis, with all the nice shadows on the trunk

Definitely automotive clear coat. I've used it on projects like this, and it's great.
I'm trying to take my back cover apart and I can't get the last piece off unless I break it off. Does anyone know how to take it off?
Update: you can take the top piece off with brute force without it breaking. It has some glue holding it but not a lot.
Update#2: the extra backcover was only for solidus
I don't think many people have tried this lol. Just wondering, what are you doing it for?

I'm putting 2 coats of matte and 1 coat of gloss. If the paint works the way I want it to, ill put a clear coat. I don't think the paint will interfere with the signal as long as you leave the holes open on the cover.

yeah, i was gonna sand down the shell and use a matte paint, 2 or 3 coats, then maybe 2 coats of clear, depending on how it looks when its dry...
as for the letters, when i need to cover something that small/detailed, i use this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_bandage
works like a charm, and peels right off! just be sure that when ur done ALL your painting, use a *fine* tip blade to run around the edges of the letters so it doesnt peel your hard work off
it will adhere to metal, wood, plexiglass, fiberglass and carbon fiber, but make sure the surface is SUPER CLEAN! i cant stress that enough

Ok ill try that. I got another back cover but I don't know what color I should paint it. I'm thinking red or black. What color are you painting your back piece?
I'm so jealous. I've wanted to paint my back piece white since the moment I saw this phone. I was so depressed when I bought it and saw how it was on. I'm going to try it soon. Where did you get the extras? Just online?
So, I've been considering painting my Infuse's shell. Since I do not use a case, the original paint is scratched and wearing in some places, so I want to paint it a new color and make it look fresh and new, as well as unique. I would be keeping the back plate the same for now, so it would just be the trim of the phone.
If I had to return it, I would try and repaint it again with something close to the original color...does anybody think an ATT rep would notice if it was slightly different? This is the only thing keeping me from tearing apart my Infuse right now. Haha.
Also, any thoughts on what colors would look good? I has thinking white, red, or lime green

DO NOT! I REPEAT! DO NOT TRY TO PAINT THIS PHONE!
To start, you would need to remove the top coat, sanding it down will not work. maybe a credit card or gift card to remove the top coat, then you would need to erase the chrome under the top coat, which sanding will not help. I am currently sporting a black infuse after the hell i tired to paint it. Looks nice in black though. but it is not worth it. i ordered a new housing for it. because black doesn't really cut it. for me at least.

It just doesn't work. It only smooths out the paint to a blur. I had to scratch it off. Then with a eraser erase the chrome paint. Pain in the ass. Really. And as for the touch up paint. Idk how that would work out.

You can paint this plastic without removing the "topcoat" if you know what you are doing, and know your way around any auto parts store. You need to obtain an adhesion promoter primer, and spray that first before attempting your final paint coat. I'd recommend Duplicolor http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...ol-Duplicolor_7140919-P_N3281A_T|GRP2050_____

Hmmm. Maybe ill try starting with lower grit and move up gradually to smooth it out. I think the plastic is sturdy enough to handle a few different passes at various grits.
If not, ill remove it in the fashion you presented, then sand down the plastic a bit after.
Either way, I really want to try this. Where did you find the replacement housing? That'd be good to know just in case I eff something up. Hell, if its cheap enough I might just buy that to mod and only tear apart my infuse if I'm successful.

What grit did you use Prime? you make it sound like you used some chunky ass sandpaper. Lol 1500 or less grit should be perfect to take the top coat off; that grit would "fog" rather than scratch the surface...

Jesus brah, you know you didn't have to completely remove the paint right? I just meant for the sandpaper to "prep" the surface so the paint would stick. 1500 or 2000 will get the job done and leave you with a nice smooth prepped surface.

Yupp adding 2 or 3 layers of clear coat will give it a sexy shine
Hey Prime, you could just sand the black with 1500 to smooth it out, add a couple layers of black, then 2 or 3 layers of clear coat (all at autozone) I bet it would look legit...or atleast till your replacement gets there! lol
**** I should really just make a youtube video on painting, or atleast find one that I would use, interpreting text is way different than just watching a video...
Since it appears that LG makes it pretty easy to teardown this phone it would be cool to change out the bumpers for smaller ones. lol... (I don't plan on dropping mine).
https://youtu.be/7N_mGT-P1ZA
Only thing I was on the fence about this phone was that T-Mobile only has black. (I know, I'm a stickler.)
Max's video really showed you how easy it is to teardown and replace with other colored parts later when available.
Actually I might keep the black and just go for the rose gold rails and camera ring from the white color.
As for slimmer rails I think if you use a dremel you could shave off a few mm possibly? Similar to what a few LG G Watch R users did to get rid of the cheap black paint.
Black and gold would have the most "premium" look. Now hopefully people will start breaking their new phones, so more replacement parts become available lol. Or, maybe the people that got review units will sell parts? Here's hoping.
I was actually thinking yesterday after seeing Max video to just change bars to gold.... And leave black... But not rose gold pure yellow gold... Sexy sexy... I saved an eBay search to find them

I'm not sure that's 100% a good idea. For one, we already know the fingerprint sensor only works when you're contacting the side bumpers. Who knows what else might stop working if you disconnect or replace them? The antennas, maybe?

Best I can do. As I said, it's very minor. It looks like a glint in the corner, but it is wear. No drops, identical on opposite corner. Like the earliest stage of holster wear on the slide of a carry pistol.

Plasti dip is amazing.. Never thought to use it for the rails of the phone, that would be very cool. Best thing is, if you grow tired of the dip want to change color etc you can just make a small cut through the dip (most people use something like a standard screwdriver or a razor) and peels right off.
I might look into this, I'd love a dark blue on my bumpers to go with the black phone... Oooh...
I don't believe I will want to take down the phone to do it though. May look into doing so without it.

I bought the white intending to buy black back cover and simply aplying skinomi decals in black carbon fiber to the white parts in front. Actually the decals are on the way already. I have applied Di-Noc carbon wrap to the back of the clear Ringke cover because it was a finger print magnet. But the cover weighs down the phone too much for my liking on what is already a heavy phone compared to my feather light Note 3.
As for the Rose gold rails, I have clear wrap for cars left over. I cover them with that before the plating wears off or I scratch it. Man those things weigh down this phone. I have a cramp by the end of the day.
I would be cool if I could take them off, and still have a case. the side bards only make the phone wider. It seems it would be easier to hold without the metal bars, that are nothing more than cosmetic additions.
Yes they are big... But just a few screws holding them on. I could see the phone modding scene take off with custom bumpers. Flat ones would be a great first entry. Also a stylus bumper could be added to either side, with a thin styla style that clips on or slides in.
