Has anyone looked into http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709586 ? It's a thread in the Sprint Galaxy Nexus forum for a modded version of nfc.apk that allows the phone to read nfc tags with the screen off. There's a link in the first post to a version for the One X, albeit the Tegra 3 version (one of which is for CM10 which I'm currently running). I'm very tempted to try it out on our phone as I can't foresee many ramifications if it doesn't work out and I backup the stock app. I might try it out in the next few days, but before I do, does anyone have any opinions?
Also, I tried to find a similar thread in our forums and couldn't, so if I'm duplicating something, I'm sorry. This is my first time starting a thread, so please go easy on me

I would have loved to have posted this in a more trafficked thread but it would have been pushed here from general as it's a question and I'm too new and member with too few posts to post in development. I'm getting impatient waiting for a technical response or investigation so I think I'm going to back up, try it out, and report back. Wish me luck!

i'm interested to see what happens.
i sent the guy who created the modded .apk for the international one x a personal message, asking if it would work for us.
he didn't respond.
if it works that would be great.
I tried it out and although I haven't been able to use NFC with the screen off it didn't break my NFC either. I'll keep experimenting with it.

I tried messing around with the apk and couldn't get it to work. I know this feature is available in other ROMs for the evita, so it's got to be possible somehow. I'm watching this thread very closely and hopefully someone a lot smarter than me can get it working on CM10
There are evita ROMs with screen off NFC? I've yet to see any (although admittedly I haven't looked hard).

Well i just got this bad boy yesterday. Hardly able to put it down when I'm at home already.
Haven't gotten round to root yet. This weekend be the big event...lol.
So im hoping you guys can give me a few ideas as to the best roms and features available.

Check your serial number, if it's >B70 then it's not rootable. Yes they are working on it but it's been almost 2 months and nothing. Appears to be locked down in hardware and thus not by-passible via the usual tricks of the past. Most likely it's because of DRM if I had to guess.
If your serial is B70xxxxx check it anyway, some of the B70's may be rootable if they still have the older SBKv1 ROM (or whatever it is).
Mine's going back (B80 serial) - it's a dead duck.
I suggest you return it and get something else so you wont clog the forum with the same stupid questions that have been asked hundreds of times.

It says B50. So i can get on with my tinkering afterall. Thank God for that.
Would have been a bit silly to turn up again at best buy for the second time within the space of 3 days to return another tablet...lol.

The hit that I swapped for the inspire had mentioned a couple of ROMs and I think he's actually put a couple together, he mentioned that thics Rom he was running didn't allow for the camera to work, is that an isolated incident, has it been cleared up, or what? Also thank you for the suggestion, imma take a look at it righ' naow!

The best ROM I have used for your requirements if Cyanogen Mod 7 . My battery life is around 24 hours of moderate usage. I am overclocked to 1.8 gHZ and it's very smooth.

Look into er3bus XL iv its a great 2.3.5 GinjaBeast and 3.5 sense with beats audio. Also has a couple tweak mods to get the all blue signal thing blue battery and awesome GPS with lord kernal

However being in the q&a forum all I see are a couple of trolls. This isn't my first rodeo, it just happens to be my first HTC.
You guys are the reason people don't want to root, god forbid they be looking for a little support from a community that does nothing but hack android software and their specific phones no less.

While you're absolutely correct in posting this thread in the correct forum, literally everything you have asked for has been covered in numerous threads before. I'll apologize for everyone for why we get a little up front with threads like these since we see at least 2 every week. I'm glad this isn't new to you, but before you get angry please look at the rules you agreed to when you signed up for XDA. This is a dev. site first and foremost and some leg work is expected on your part. Searching is something you agreed to do before posting a new thread and if you did so you would have found every answer you needed.

Hey all. I've searched all over for a root for my gfs Inspire. Everything I find points me to the Ace hack kit. However, it looks like that tool was removed. Can anyone repost the files/guide? I can't find the info anywhere.

Ace Hack Kit is not in XDA anymore. For the time being, there´s no other place.

ya, selfishness and laziness cost us the person that gave us all the tool that actually let us do so much more with our phones not to mention his constant hours of support to help those with problems. xda really should be either a paid membership or invite only. the ppl too lazy to follow rules wont be missed if they cant access the forum. /endrant

We could always track down those members and bann them since they didn't follow the rules. It may not be something that will bring him back, but it is the only nice thing I can think of doing.

ya its become just a general support forum. we see it all the time with people that just bought the phone having issues with it unrooted untouched. umm take it back to the store lol. or how many times have I and all of us had to tell soemone to buy a new usb cable. remember when you used to see good questions?

No more Hack Kit in XDA..is not about Inspire or DHD....is about XDA....that is unfortunate, but it will probably draw the attention of the people round here!...at least I hope.
It is always sad to see a valued member leave. I wasn't aware of his work as I spend most of my time in the atrix 2 forum.
Are there any other known methods for rooting the inspire? My gfs phone is nearing unusable with the constant reboots. I have yet to find any information on fixing that issue as well. She has only had the phone about a month. Any input would be appreciated.

Well, before rooting is always good to check that the device has no hardware issues. Try doing a factory reset and see what happens. Try pulling the sdcard and see how it behaves for a day.
If is still misbehaving, then take it to warranty....rooting will not fix hardware issues. Then, when u are sure that no hardware issues are the cause of the problems, come and visit us in the IRC channel in my signature...the Hack Kit is still there....

Also if I'm allowed to put my two cents in here... but charge to 100% and as it dies check the percentage if it reboots write down the percent. Do it until it dies fully charge it and repeat. If the numbers match up its the battery I had bought this phone used. It rebooted at 96% and 42%. Got a new battery and no more random reboots

Ok, I looked for a torrent and couldn't find one. I decided to make a torrent myself, and I will seed for a while. If I can get some email addresses I'll send the torrent that way, or if I could upload the torrent here I would.

Nope more probably, the mod is probably removing them but they appear faster than he can remove them...I swear people like the OP are illiterate somehow, like seriously...
OP please, next time you make a thread, READ THE SUGGESTIONS given as you type the title, is stops people from making extra threads, thanks...also seeing as you're on mobile, maybe consider when you next make a new thread, do it on PC so you actually see those suggestions, granted the XDA app isn't all that great for that...
