First I will state that after 4+ hours spent in front of google I haven't found any similar issue. Today the One S offered me to install the android "jelly bean" update. After the update the phone worked normally, except for the fact I was continually getting disconnected from the network. Now I have no signal at all (no internet and no calls). After swapping the sim card for sim cards of different carriers (phone is not sim-locked), I noticed I was getting only 2G signal, 3G networks don't show up.
Probably that's why I get no signal on my original carrier since it only provides 3G signal. As a last resort I rooted the phone and installed Cyanogenmod 10 thinking it would somehow help. Maybe the problem is with the antenna? Even if the phone was fine before updating?
Phone specs:
-HTC one S (S4)
-Baseband: 1.08ts.50.02.16_10.08e.50.04L
-Kernel version: 3.0.51-geb1844c
-Carrier IL Pelephone (Originally from Vodafone)

Now that you have CM10 installed (or a CM10 base ROM, I would suggest JellyBam), you should go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998270 and try flashing different baseband radios. You should be able to flash different radios on CM10 regardless of your hboot version or whether you got a recent OTA update. If you are having signal problems, it doesnt hurt to test out different radios to see if in fact it is a software problem.
No success. Tried all radios with same results. Sometimes the phone will connect to the network for a minute or two and then disconnect. Also does somebody know how to switch the baseband frequencies on the One S? I tried the DEFY but it always threw an error.
Come on! Nothing left to do? I will just trash the phone because htc don't know how to update thier phone without completely screwing it up? I have no use for a 4G phone that only runs on 2G networks.

You say it's HTC fault although nothing happened to me. Sometimes hardware comes with defects and you were unlucky enough to have one. And btw one s hasn't gotten a jelly bean update yet. If it's only 30MBs It's not jb

Probably, but it worked fine before the update. I know it wasn't a jellybean update, just changed a bit the menus. It's just a shame that I have to throw the phone away like this, it was a nice upgrade to the iphone 4.

Hi since I can't find a forum for the One XL I assume it's shared within this one.
I just got my One XL yesterday and it's been having what seems to be a SIM card problem. The phone will be normal sometimes but will lose all mobile connectivity suddenly. Is this a known problem? The connectivity comes back on its on but it could be after a few minutes or few hours. Apart from returning the phone, is there anything I can do? Note that WiFi works perfectly.
Yes sir that would be a common issue among the hox .

When you say "XL," so you mean an imported XL from Asia? Rogers? AT&T? The AT&T's the one having some radio issues. I don't think the Rogers' is. And if you imported yours there could be a number of reasons you're having connectivity issues.
@barryH_GEG: I live in Hong Kong and the One XL has the right bands for 4G and HSPA+.
@tyshemi: is there a software fix to this or is returning it the only option?

Gentlemen,
What the h.. is with this phone? I got it as well last Friday and I have exactly the same problem - it loses all mobile connectivity and only emergency calls can be done .. for which a SIM card won't be needed. It doesn't look like a software pronlem to me, it looks more like a hardware problem! I've seen this behavior immediately after I received the phone and I immediately went with the phone in a Vodafone shop. The guy did not look surprise at all. He took out the micro SIM for couple of times and after wards it worked OK. I went home and after couple oh hours it happened again!!!
@ HTC developers:
Gentlemen, are you joking with this device? What's going on in the testing team?
Indeed it is a LTE phone - and it is known already that there are lots of problems with the 4G software, but the SIM card not to be seen by the mobile? How could this be possible???
Please do something about this!
I will send back this device immediately!
Cheers
I myself have exchanged my HOX for this issue twice now. AT&T knows about this issue and refers to it as a manufacturing defect with the SIM card reader while not in a LTE area.

In Australia, we have this issue on our 32GB One XL. Apparently it's a particular version of micro SIM. One specific version has this issue, the other doest.
I've seen it happen a couple of times on mine since I got it. If it happens again, I'm going to put some very thing pieces of paper under the sim card to make it marginally thicker and press firmer against the contacts when it's inserted.

Hi guys,
Just to give you an update about my HTC ONE XL. Unfortunately, I have only bad news about it !
I went yesterday to Vodafone shop and they changed the micro SIM card. They gave me a different one - also a brand new one, and I have the same problem, the phone loses the connection with the SIM card. Since yesterday it happened already twice! I've seen some discussions here about the WiFi. Just to mention that in my case the Wifi can be used, only the network is gone and stays gone until I restart the phone.
HTC ONE X also loses the connection with the SIM?
My micro SIM card does not have a 4G subscription anyway..
Cheers
Try putting tape on the plastic side of the microSIM to see if maybe you can get a more solid connection?
My One XL would keep loosing reception and saying "no sim" even though it was clearly working. I deactivated my SIM pin and it seems to have stopped dropping out and saying "no sim" Give it a try.
I have One XL and I have no sim issues, it could be the piece that you use. As for the signal drop, it does happen to me sometime, and I think it tries to connect at LTE then goes back 3G. Try to force 3G only then try.
Setting on network menu could help too. Try *#*#4636#*#*

Been having the same issue and found it in the logs. Not sure if other people are seeing the same thing though. Post with info.
Hi guys,
I sent back the phone last week and yesterday I got a new one with a "newer" IMEI. Since yesterday, the phone did not lose the connection with the SIM card.
I was told that, indeed, some of the first HTC ONE XL modeles released on the market had the problem described by us on this forum/topic. The nature of the problem, hardware or software is not known to me so far but I believe it's a bit of both..
Cheers
This happened to me and updating radios to 1.88 or higher fixed it. did not work well with 1.85 radio. Radios dont come with custom roms. They have to be installed separately or with a ruu. There is a radio thread in development. You must be rooted. Ive only had 1 person tell me they still had problems after updating.. if it doesnt fix it, get another phone. Its a legit reason. Main reason for a phone is to make calls. kinda hard to do that with no mobile connection. :crying:
Edit: here is the radio thread. 1.88 or higher. 1.88 is my favorite. The telus seems to be great also. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694012

I recall the comments above. The connection with the SIM card was also lost for the new HTC ONE XL phone, but this time after about 40 hours !
Software running on this phone: 1.82.162.6
Android Version: 4.0.3
I have no other option but to send it back again, and go for a Samsung ..

i have question though.. the guys who have sim problem does your network drop from 3-4 bars to 0?.. in mine i have noticed that it actually drops to 1 and then only goes to 0 bars for 2 sec.. then catches up... but if i keep it to gsm only mode.. i get full bars all the time... what do you guys think is the problem.. network or the phone has bad way to switch between the network types?
and jsut in general the network fluctuates a lot on this phone.
So...
I am running my phone rooted, but mostly stock (just some removals) with ROM 1.53.401.2 and he 0.15.3150S.19_10.31501S.06L baseband.
Its been perfoming fine ever since so I never bothered to upgrade to a custom ROM or the newer basebands.
Its an EU unbranded phone. As of tonight, with nothing special done to it it seems to have lost all cell reception. All I get is An x where the 5 bars are. Funnily, when I turn of my WiFi router and select wireless internet, I can get online and download data through the cellular inetnet connection. But not a single call or SMS will go out.
I have moved to like every location in my apartmant and outside and nowhere I can even get a single bar of reception or even a call through.
Does anyone have any idea WTH this could be, what could have caused it? Any ideas on where to prod and poke for a solution?
Mine did that for the first day after I put a non-stock ROM on it...hasn't done it since. I took the piece that covers the SIM card off and popped it back on. I don't know what causes it though.

Hi all,
I am having a problem with my data connection, quite often when I am using my phone the internet connection icon next to the signal bars keeps disappearing and I loose connection, it's normally only a minute or so but it is quite annoying as it is quite regular and causes some downloads to fail.
I have tried different ROMs but I have the issue remains.
I am running a UK xt1032 device and couldn't wait for the official 4.4 ROM so I flashed the us global gsm rom, ( downgraded my bootloader to the 4.3 version so I could flash CWM ) but have since reflashed the 4.4 boot loader, but I was wondering if flashing the us ROM could could be affecting my connection as I believe the primary difference between UK and us ROMs is the radio frequency ( I might be wrong ).
So... Is anyone else having this issue, or is this a CM based ROM bug ( as all the roms I have used have been CM based ) or could my phone be faulty, or could it just be down to my network ( giffgaff UK ) as I do make the most of there unlimited data and I'm not sure if they giving me low priority.
Sorry for the long winded post, and thanks for any advice/feedback.

Well not sure this will help you but lots of people in the uk have been having data cut out after upgrading to kitkat but that is accompanied by other issues.lots of info on the motorola forum.
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/48fb0b8150?page=1
Im with giffgaff and after i upgraded it was a nightmare, data cut out, random airplane mode with no symbol showing etc. i have now downgraded too jellybean and the phone is flying and has no issues at all.probably a different issue with you but thought i would mention it.
You flashed the US Radio firmware. Changing ROMs won't affect that. You have to flash the UK Stock firmware image which includes the UK Radio firmware.

Hi all just thought I would post an update, I seem to have found a solution for my problem,
I had to go to network operators and select another network ( my network is giffgaff ) so I selected Vodafone, waited for the no service to kick in, then instead of selecting giffgaff I selected O2 and since then I have had NO drop outs, and its been almost 24 hours
Hope this helps.

Good thinking, keep us informed if it continues to work as i will update mine then .
Still going strong although I have a G at the moment rather than a H , but most importantly there is always an icon there

Id recommend to downgrade back to 4.3 mate,my girlfriends moto g (Vodafone) (fully stock not rooted or unlocked)ota to kitkat4.4 had signal issues 24/7 mine was unlocked and rooted and had intermittent signal issues, reflashed 4.3 on both and no signal loss at all,in fact data speeds improved, on giffgaff on kitkat I couldn't get over 1 Mbps at home now on jb its pulling between 2 and 5 Mbps

I did reflash 4.3 but got board not being able to flash any roms, as this was one of the main reasons for me buying this phone. But since connecting to O2 signal seems fine
Nobody is perfect, I am nobody, therefore I am perfect.
I've been happily using an HTC MT4G Slide/Doubleshot I got on Ebay since December (I'm in Canada, using it with Wind Mobile, AWG 3G bands). Last Sunday my phone suddenly started showing "No Signal" for the cellular connection (wifi still works just fine), even though I had full signal bars, and I was unable to complete calls, even the *611 carrier service calls. With the Wifi turned off, I noticed I was still receiving emails, oddly enough, even though I could not register on my network. My SIM was working fine in other phones, and a SIM from another carrier (GSM 2G only) worked just fine. I tried a new SIM from my carrier, no luck, same thing.
I know AWS splits its up/downlinks between the 2 sets of bands it uses (1700MHz for up, 2100MHz for down), so I'm guessing something strange happened to selectively knock out the up bands only. But what? My phone is on EmmanuelU's KitKatDS 1.3, but the only unusual thing I could think of software wise was that I had recently updated Xposed framework to the latest version. I though maybe that did something weird to the baseband firmware, so I restored the original stock Gingerbread ROM via ClockworkMod - no change. I applied the available OTA updates from T-Mo - nothing. Re-flashed KitKatDS & restored by current set-up - nothing.
I'm completely stumped and seriously starting to worry it's some freak hardware thing. Anyone here ever experience something like this?
Thanks for any of your thoughts!
Never seen this myself before, check your apns would be my next step. Maybe try *#*#4636#*#* from the dialer and see if what it says there too. But mostly I'm stumped

Hello,
I bought my Nexus 5 on the 11th of December 2013 and it had been working flawlessly ever since. Since last week, I started noticing the occasional signal drop and I'd be out of cell reception but would usually be back up within no time. However, yesterday, out of the blue I'm travelling on the highway and my signal strength disappears never to come back again. I've tried the following:
- Restore old backup (including EFS)
- Went back to stock from PA
- Upgraded to the latest radio
- Took back cover off to see if anything was wrong but found nothing.
- Tried another SIM card
Nothing worked. My SIM card works fine in another phone. Everything else such as WiFi and Bluetooth works flawlessly but I just don't get any reception.
This is very disappointing and I have my fingers crossed hoping someone can help me with this since I didn't plan on getting a new device for at least another year especially after paying $520 USD for my phone here in my country.
Thank you for looking.
im having a similar problem with the radio after the last few otas. im getting a lot of dropped calls on 3g aws...
im going to try to revert to an old radio as i don't think this is a hardware failing issue..

Flash stock firmware with fast boot. If its the same, its a carrier issue....call them to see. Or its hardware failure.
just wanted to post my fix for this issue - very disappointed with Google that i had to do this...my provider is mobilicity canada (3g aws band fyi)
flash krt01b radio from this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514095
this is *not* a carrier or hardware issue (at least in my case)
seems others are having same issue
https://code.google.com/p/android/i...s Owner Summary Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=70878
Then it is a carrier issue....cause on Telus in Canada....never had an issue with any radio version. ?
telus would have a stronger overall signal but uses AWS band for lte which is different than mobilicitiy 3g aws...
I'm not disagreeing.... Just saying its the carrier....not Google.
See my point?

are you saying mobilicitiy is purposely weakening their cell signal cause they are almost bankrupt ?

Just saying that unless many have the issue with the phone or radio, then its an issue.....if not, it isnt .
So in this case, it leaves hardware or carrier....assuming a stock flash didn't help.
If flashing another radio helps the OP...awesome!! But the new radio does work fine for the mass majority.
Hope it does work for him tho!
