So in a little over a month I'm looking Atty getting the note 10.1
What I wanna know is what formating is the internal using? Cause what I want to do is see about getting a 64gb sdcard and formating the internal and external SD as the same type then use lvm to Mount the both to /sdcard to make one big SD.
I'd actually like to do what my GNex does and merge them and make it so I can access it using MTP so the card won't ever need to be removed.

Maybe you can use a symlink Android no longer uses mass storage. From JB+ android will only use MTP

Can't do it with symlink, Linux only allows 1 drive per Mount so you gotta create a logical drive that is attached to the other two and Mount that. So I wanna format the internal and external as one and make then accessible via mtp

I just wanna know how the internal SD Is formatted on the note 10.1, is it ext, fat?

you risk slowing down the whole device by doing this, personally i'd get the 32 gig version so you have plenty of space for apps and then use the 64 gig card for music and movies etc. I'm using the 16 gig version, already running out of space.
I don't think it's possible anyway. MTP devices do not have a seperate SD Card partition. The SD Card is the /data/media folder.

Oh it's possible, MTP actually makes it easier c: and ik where it mounts, just said /sdcard for ease of concept

Ik I run the risk of done slow down, but it'll just be the SD data and if I get a fast SD it wouldn't be noticeable.
Ik know the risks I just need to know the format of the internal SD and if it already mounts using mtp so I can figure exactly how im gonna make it work. Ik it is possible, and mtp actually makes it easier because it won't need to be unmounted which would cause problems. C:

I have a 16gb s3 and 16gb SD card I wanted to either move my music or apps but I can't figure out how my phone recognizes the SD but for some reason its seems unusable. Is there some setting I'm missing or is my SD card corrupt?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
not sure i understand your question exactly... but i can say that certain programs are not able to utilize the sd card in our phones. this was new for me coming from a motorola. the way samsung refers to the internal "sd card" vs your added external sd card is different so a number of programs will look at the internal memory as the SD Card instead of your actual SD Card.
that said, you can bypass this with a program the binds the directory on the internal storage that the program is looking for to a directory on your SD Card.
search my posts... i posted the link to the program (not mine) in another thread. it's working great for me with MOG. before, all my music had to be on the internal storage for mog to read it. now, with the directory bind program i have all my music on my external sd card and mog reads the files just fine.
hope that helps!
Well I downloaded app2sd and it says this device does not have a primary external storage. It does not even recognize my sd

No, since the OS won't allow apps2sd because it uses MTP

Read this below.... The device uses MTP so it will not see your external SD card in the slot by ICS design...what you want it the UMS the USB mass storage where the device used the SD card to save data...but the Samsung now has 16GB internal storage so it presents a problem...
This app was written to resolve that issue... Also there is a link to explain this deeper than what I am doing....

Well I figured out how to get files from my Mac to my sd card using android file transfer. I transferred some videos and the stock video play found them right off. The only problem is that I can find the folder that there in using file manager. Its like a ghost SD card I can't find it anywhere but at least I can transfer and delete them now I just need my computer to do it.

You don't. Ability to move apps to external sd was disabled with ICS release. There are ways to trick it but not worth the hassle. I have 190 apps on my internal with no problems. I have 64 Class 10 external and use it for everything except apps.

Directory bind. It allows you to offload app data onto your external memory. It is only ideal for things like big games (gameloft). Can't imagine what else you'd want to offload though other than big games.

Those work better for a permanent solution for the GS3. I use Directory Bind for my Nexus 7 since I can't keep my USB OTG flash drive plugged in all the time, it's super easy to reapply the settings.
So I have a 16b micro sd card that came with my OG Droid 2 years ago. I formatted it with fat32 and exfat and trying both still cant be read by my S3. If I insert it in, the S3 doesnt read anything (and no trace of any sd card being there). I also have another 16gb sd card that is class 4 and it also cant be read. I know both SD cards are working fine because they still work on my Droid but for some reason it wont on my S3.
Could it be because I partitioned both cards? I've already formatted it and got rid of the partition so idk. And whats weird is that my 2gb sd card from like 4 years ago works and is readable on my S3. Could someone help?
I would reformat on your computer again, I have had no issues with any SD card on my S3.
I had same issues with an old card that had barely been used.Broke down & bought a Samsung card.Cost extra cpl $ but have had 0 problems since.

I cant since it wont be read at all on my phone. So i have to format through my computer... I've tried formatting multiple times. Still no luck. Im really trying to use this card temporarily before i buy a 32gb class 10 card when i have the money

Anyone get a solution to this? Just bought a brand new 32GB class 10 MicroSD, I formatted exFAT and NTFS using my computer but NTFS isn't read on the card and exFAT keeps getting the "unexpectedly removed" notification every 5 seconds...
Fat32 means I can't store files larger than 700mb right? i.e. a hi-res movie won't work?
Fat32 is the only way i could get my 64gb ultra -1 card to be read in cwm. Use the program from ridge crop. I believe your limited to files no larger than 2 or 4gb, cant remember off hand.

4GB. Movies if not compressed may need to be split or run from Internal. Good reason for having 32GB internal.

I have had a hell of a weekend trying to get my new 64gb card recognised by my SGS3 after swapping from Omega rom to AOKP. Turns out roms based on Cyanogen Mod dont recognise exFAT formatted cards and so corrupt them. I eventually managed to reformat my card using EaseUS partition manager but my phone still wont recognise it. Im going to flash back to Omega 31.1 in the morning and hopefully solve most of the problems. I know the card works fine because after formating it my Acer A500 recognises it, as does my PC. Problems is my phone isnt recognising any MicroSd cards now, so hopefully havent busted it or ill have to flash back to stock rom and swap it out at Tesco's.

I'm not really familiar with that device but on most you can grab App2Sd from Google Play and it's self explanatory from there, but some devices (like mine) don't et you move apps to the SD Card, but you can move everything else there
And I'm no moderator, but I'm not so sure this isn't the right section for your question, I think it belongs in Q and A

After rooting you can use Directory Bind to link your internal/external storage, but that's not truly moving them to the SD Card, but I think it's the closest you can get. I don't bother with it, I just move all my big files to my SD Card so I have space for my APK's on my internal storage

without rooting u cant have memory swap..root ur grand and install init.d support. and reboot then install this http://d-h.st/AGR and gain reboot. this will convert external memory to internal and internal to external automatically.
use http://galaxygrandcenter.blogspot.in/2013/03/warning-it-will-void-your-warranty-and.html to root.
and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39510406&postcount=1 to add init.d

Thank you sir for the help, I have succesfully rooted my phone throught that guide, though there was a little trouble geeting the Clock Work Mode Recovery but finally got it.
Sir can you tell me the actual usage of CWM, can i get backup of my present status through this mode or do i need to use some app like Titanium Backup pro for that purpose and what info would actually be backed up, like would it store info of the present firmware and is the backup point created in the internal memory or the sd card.
Also sir can you please tell me that if I swap my 32gb ext sd card with 4gb internal memory then when I want to get my phone back to normal mode then how am I gonna do so, I mean the sd card would have let's say some 25gb apps and I want to put the phone back to normal, I mean unswap it then how would it be possible as my internal memory would be only 4 gb, will I have to delete apps or use some recovery option, please make that clear, thank you sir for all your help.

No.
Does not work.
The old name is app2sd.
It is nothing more than a more convenient interface for the normal move to SD feature on android.
For Samsung devices, it will only move to internal SD.
You will need root access to deal with such things properly to the external SD.
Search for link2sd or FolderMount instead, or flash some mod that switches the internal and external SD.

With the S3 there was a mod, that the micro sd became the "internal" memory and vice versa. Perhaps we will see this for the S4 as well

There is a working solution which will also update the apps directly on the SD card. Since I can't post links yet the app is called 'FolderMount' search for a thread called '[How to] Moving Apps to SD Card' by Eambo.
