Yes you can if it was a nandroid backup. but when you take the update you will lose recovery and root. The best way is to install the K3 update that says nowipe. Then you will still have recovery and root.

The full Asus firmware is not yet release, we probably have to wait for about 2 weeks. If you want the OTA incremental update go here (post#39)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219004&page=4
Also, the firmware is based on Android 4.2.1.

1. With your setup (stock rom), you need to wait until Asus release the full firmware, then you can upgrade your CWM to the new TWRP(4.2.1 compatible) then use TWRP to flash the 4.2.1, and SuperSu to gain root back. If you decide to go with custom rom then wait until Cleanrom releases the new rom and new twrp patch, you just flash them.
2. Another way without waiting for anything, you need to downgrade back to ICS .30, use debugfs to gain root, install OTA root keeper to preserve root while upgrading to 4.2.1
I would prefer option 1.
Thanks mate I prefere first option too this with downgrade is s*x so i will wait..

sdbags is going to release 2 versions of 4.2, one is the image from tf300 where you will have dual home launcher (you can switch between the two), which will be here tomorrow. You can try out this one. The second version is faster but only has one home launcher (closer to stock rom), will be release later.
Hello i have a i535 Galaxy s3, with 4.1.1 jelly bean, and i want to update to 4.1.2 right now but it doesn't allow OTA updates right now, i have clockwork recovery mod installed and i am rooted right now, could anyone help me guide how to update to 4.1.2? also would i lose all my apps/settings/data?
Also i did try updating from samsung Kies but it said it did not support a update. but i did manage to backup my data/settings from samsung kies.
Sorry im kinda a noob with this stuff, i'd need a full guide to updating if that's possible, i rooted it myself by following a youtube video and it has worked well since.
Thanks
You can't update because you are rooted.

so what can i do so i have the latest jelly bean?
You can flash the ota in the bonus files section of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
If that doesn't work, you will need to Odin back to pure 4.1.1 stock then take the official ota that way

If you are looking for the latest JB, and you're rooted, why not install a 4.2.2? There are tons of awesome ROM's out there.

i'm just not very educated in flashing roms and such, but if theres a good guide for a 4.2.2 update i'd be happy to go to that. But id like to keep my applications/data somehow (i have backed them up on samsung kies and i've learned how to make a full backup on clockwork recovery) i'd just rather not re-download all my applications.

There is no 4.2 update released for this phone yet. What Mr. CJ meant was that there are AOSP 4.2.2 ROMs out. The Android OS is currently on version 4.2.2 but not every smartphone has it officially.

ah well, id like to stick to whatever the official update is out right now, for the i535 which appears to be the 4.1.2 jelly bean, is it worth really updating from 4.1.1?
So today I finally decided to root my GS3 that I never took any OTA updates on.
I'm on 4.0.4 rooted and unlocked bootloader using:
[GUIDE][VZW Edition]How to root your Galaxy SIII & More!(ROMs/CWM/Stock)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
I stopped at section 3.
When reading around the forums about getting a ROM with the latest OTA onto my phone and keeping root it seemed confusing.
For now I just want an updated stock ROM. How do I do this? Which is the right thread for me to follow?
( I was considering this Stock rooted VRBMB1 4.1.2- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2178482 )
Thanks!

The link in your post doesn't work, but the thread no. 2178482 is the same as what I used to go to 4.1.2. You may also want to grab the 4.1.2 modem and rpm from post #3.

Thanks, I'll try to fix those links soon. Are you saying all I need to do is flash that 4.1.2 rom?

Backup first, and flash away.
hey everyone I have a question about Gnabo Rom v6. I have the 2012 n8013 and I was wondering about the flash process. I am on android version 4.1.2. Do I have to do anything else before i flash Gnabo? I have CWM 6.0.4.6 installed on my tablet and am already rooted. I was about to give up on this device since it doesnt look like we will be receiving an official KitKat update and then i found Gnabo Rom. Looks awesome. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

No problem, just backup your data, because you will have to do a full wipe within CWM. Install strictly the way posted in tbe Gnabo section first posting. After all finished, you can restore apps and data. Do not forget to finally clean dalvik cache!
Wait a few days more for Boefflas Kernel will be public, the you will have perfekt running Gnabo with 4.1.2 Bootloader
Markus.
What's the difference between the 4.1.2 Bootloader and the 4.4.2 Bootlader?
