Hi all,
I know on other Phones it is possible to tweak so the backlight of the buttons will light up at a notification. So I was wondering if it was ported to the sensation?
Thanks
Not that I'm aware of, but it definitely sounds like a cool feature. I'd use that!
i think that feature would be supported by kernel
i can't think another way
using an app... i am not so sure
by the way it would be a cool feature:good:
yeah, I'm also thinking of a modified s2w or something..
But thanks for the answers, although there isn't something like this ):

Hi guys! I've seen this video about the backlight led used as notification led. Is it possible to have it on the Nexus S? I've tried to download the BNL lite app, but it's not working becouse I don't have a BNL mod kernel.
Actually I'm using the last Cyanogen mod for Nexus S. Can someone enight me about this topic?
Thanks!
I'm pretty sure you just need to go to the dev section and look for kernels that say they support BLN, then flash one of them for the app to work...

hi all.
First I want to say thanks to all developers, users and all those who invest the time to get shoes are amazing. A big thank you from us in Israel
I am using ROM Zeus version 6.
The rom look great fast and well designed.no BUGS at all.
What bothers me is that I can not use video call. It is very helpful at work and I saw ROMS that option is available. Is this something that's easy to add?
The second question. Is it possible to keep the screen ON all the time when the power is connected? It really helps when you're driving and not have to open the lock screen Every few minutes.
The third question is related to the MIUI and CM ROMs
Is it possible to fix the problem with BLUETOOTH?
This is something very important especially when driving
If the BLUETOOTH do not work, you should keep the phone in hand and it is not safe
The only problem that prevents me from using these Roms
Or maybe we should wait for the ICS PORT?
BIG THNKS

1. Talk with video installer:

2. BlueTooth on cm7 or cm9 or miui: If you can't make it happen yourself, forget it. Until Broadcomm release the source codes and until a kernel developer adds it into a working infuse kernel, it is unlikely.
3. Screen on for driving: maybe use a dedicated GPS?
Thanks a lot.
the bt is working with the stock rom and others . How it works rhere? Noobe question....

To get your screen to stay on you should be able to go Menu --> Settings --> Display --> Screen Timeout change to Never and you should be in business.

try aeon or try pulling the dialeractivity.apk from bigfau's aeon.
I think it is supported directly..i don't remember.
I think the dialeractivity.apk for doctorz rom in the captivate forum has it. whether or not it actually works with that icon mapping out the videotalk, i don't know.

Of course thanks to bigfau for the Rom.
But thank you for the idea.
By the way,AEON is a great ROM only is causing a problem with Hebrew fonts.
I purchased this amazing phone bout a week ago. The one thing that bugs me is theres no notification in a visual form when receiving SMS / call
I was wondering if theres a way to make the Menu|Home|Back|Search buttons(hard buttons?) blink once every few seconds to let me know of new SMS or call.
Im new to android, Ive rooted / installed CWM and have nandroid backups. Also, edited some config files, so Im fairly comfortable navigating around the heart of android & linux on the phone. Plus fairly well versed in linux.
Only thing I have not done yet is install any custom ROM's, I prefer stock w/ root, thus far as I like everything working =P
Thanks

It's a kernel-based mod from what I have gathered, commonly referred to as BLN (backlight or backlit notification - something like that at least). I hear folks more knowledgeable than I associated w/ erikmm and team fah-q are working on attempting to figure such things out.

Thanks for the answer dude, cant wait till the mod is complete. The NOLED and such programs, can really eat battery life cuz they gotta turn the display on...which is what I dont want, but may check it out.
Is there a way to do this by chance? Its very weak

I believe that's under settings/language & input/android keyboard (sliders to the left)/options for advanced users/
I tried the 60ms setting...still too weak.

Yeah I did that, I think thats just for the input though. Not entirely sure. Thanks for the feedback!
I wonder about this too. I'm able to get the haptic feedback for the keyboard to what feels normal but the haptic feedback for other buttons are very weak. I wasn't able to find a way to increase it for the back home and recent buttons, but I would like to find out how. The haptic feedback for those buttons were so weak that I never noticed it a week after I got this tab.
Seems like the vib on touch used work good waaay back on ICS .26...
Wonder what happened?
There's gotta be tweak to restore it.
Coming from the ground up
A feature like this is available in base OASP/AOKP, I believe, and as far as I recall CMx as well. If not natively available, it can be hacked in by a ROM developer, obviously -- if you have a favorite ROM, give PM'ing its dev a try. I haven't looked at the framework yet, so I have no idea of it's level of 'accessibility'.
During my Nexus 5x days, my daily driver was Pure Nexus, and one of my favorite features was the ability to enable/disable the flashlight/torch via holding the power button (with the screen off mainly).
I know PN is available for the Pixel right now, but I'm trying to stick with Stock for as long as I can so I can take OTA's. Does anyone know how to get the same torch functionality? I am currently rooted and have found several non-root apps that allow 3 taps of the power button to enable torch...but it's not the same thing as being able to long-press with the screen off! I liked being able to take my phone out of my pocket, hold the power button to enable torch, then tap the power button one more time to disable...all without turning on the screen.
Thanks all in advance for your help!
Did you ever find something? I miss that I could do that on my n5x too.
Maybe not exactly what you are looking for but I am loving Torchie right now. It has brought one of the best and simplest things from custom roms. It tends to be a bit of a power hog when enabling use with the screen off, but I have found it is pretty easy to manage. Non-root as well.
I wish Android would add this feature as stock it's such a useful feature

I ended up biting the bullet and going to Pure Nexus. It has been rock solid for me, and this feature among others make it well worth the effort and few nuances there are. I will agree, though, it would have made it a tougher decision to move away from stock if Google had this feature built-in!

I've been with pure Nexus every step of the way with this pixel and bless that guy's heart for continuing the good work that he's been doing.
but like you I want Oreo now and a way to activate the flash light just by holding down the power button when the screen is off
Honestly this was really the only reason that I stayed on pure Nexus for so long and one of the main reasons that I actually root in my pixel in the first place for. This is one of the most convenient modifications I've ever ran across and I actually use it every single day for so many different things. I just upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo and am horrified that there is no simple solution for this on Oreo yet. Could somebody please implement this into Oreo somehow on the system level, possibly within the kernel or something of that nature?
Just wanted to give an update. I found button mapper with root seems to work great with volume down for the flashlight. It seems to break a couple things though
(volume down to take picture and DND mode) and I need to contact the developer. It works great for turning on and off the flashlight though with screen off or on. (requires root).

First of all, I'm glad some of you are resurrecting this post. Maybe someone much smarter than me can explain how the developer of Pure Nexus is able to implement this? These developers never ceases to amaze me in what they can add on the front of functionality...but is it not possible to develop (again, someone much smarter than me) a flashable zip to implement this?
I like how much Google continues to add in to stock Android on customization and features that we used to have to root for. This flashlight mod would almost certainly keep me on stock...

You the real MVP. For some reason, this feature seems hit or miss for me though. Will report back with any fixes.
Thanks for the heads up!

Actually, found a fix in the gravitybox main thread.
Disabling battery optimization in settings for gravitybox seems to do the trick! :good:
Seems to fix things on my end, hopefully this works for you too!
