Just curious if this is working for anyone. It didn't seem to work for changing the splash screen to the black HTC on my aku 2.3.1 ROM. I don't think I would try this on a complete ROM upgrade.
I'm wondering if this is due to Vista or the aku...
Well, it seems these attempts should be avoided as related by others....
I could not install Jesterz AKU2.2 on Vista yesterday. Kept giving me Error [260], i.e. the upgrade tool was losing connection with the device. Worked fine on XP pro this morning.
It could be related to the Mobile Device Center that replaces Activesync.
tried a downgrade yesterday evening on vista and it smashed my phone.
so i don't recommend it you can't get a "good enough" connection in bootloader from windows vista to the phone and active sync is not working anyway so that crap will be away by this evening. It seems to me vista is not yet ready. Good enough means that it shows on the phone that USB sign in the bootloader but the flash utility can't get a connection
cr0ssy, that's exactly what happened to me. In the bootloader I get the USB sign but the upgrade tool won't recognise the device. What I noticed was that Vista uses a different driver than XP. This new driver is what could be causing the problem.
hm maybe the old driver works on windows vista, too if just don't let it install automatically.
did you get the phone back to work?
I wonder if this has something to do with a move from NDIS- to a serial-based connection in Vista....
When in bootloader Vista recognises the device as Generic NDIS.
is yours back working kta? if, did you just put xp back on your computer and reflashed it in the bootloader? (or other computer)

Yes I then managed to flash the ROM from bootloader on another PC running windows xp.
mh did you flash then with the usual boot utility? is it possible to flash these customized roms which have a upgraderom.bat or something like that in bootloader mode? (don't want to expermient now that its not really working anymore)
sorry for getting a little bit offtopic
managed to upgrade without a problem on vista
which rom did you use and did you manage to install active sync?
phone is back working :> thanks kta
Yesterday I tried flashing my friend's Magician ROM on his Vista and had the same problem and had to use an XP laptop to flash. The upgrade utility program and others based on it (MaUpgradeUTNoID, etc.) seem to have a problem working with the new vista drivers.
without the beta Mobile Device Center, which you should downlad from MS, you can just access in explorer mode to your device, but you can not install anything to you device from vista. Just download the Mobile Device Center for Vista from the MS Page.

I have the Mobile Device Center installed and still have this problem.
the ROM upgrade tools do NOT work on vista (yet) there are several calls open with Microsoft to get this fixed, however I don't think it will be fixed in a few days seeing the speed of Microsoft......
For now, only update using windows xp
does the upgrade tools work on WinXP X64 edition?

They should as it has 32bit comp. however I havent tested it, so I'm not fully sure.
Hi
Just for the fellas having problems when upgrading to a custom or signed ROM on the HTC FUZE on a computer with windows 7 and windows mobile device center.
you MUST be online at the time of installing a new rom
so the windows update downloads the " qualcomm cdma technologies msm" driver that recognizes your FUZE when windows mobile " is not present ".
I don't think I was connected when I did mine.
And that was flashing the Energy rom onto my Fuze.
I can't remember 100%, but I'm ~80% sure I wasn't. Maybe I just got lucky?
EDIT: Though that wasn't the first time I'd flashed. Maybe that was the differentiating factor.

i'm guessing this is the first time you're flashing for W7, the phone goes to bootloader mode and requires drivers that can be gained from Windows Update... after the first time, if you flash again using the same USB port, you'll be fine... using another USB port requires installing drivers again but you'll have the drivers saved in the windows folder
Is there some trick to get customruu.exe working?
Also i have problem syncing, i can only get it working if i disable fast data syncing.
I'm running latest energyrom and win7 ultimate x64 rtm

yeah, i think thats the difference, i was using a tmobile MDA with WM 5 like 2 years ago, and used to install custom roms but back in the time i had dsl so i never had a problem doing it.
so, BTW, how fast is the Energy rom?
the one i have looks nice but i feel is very slow

not that i know, but i have win7 32 bits version, so maybe its has something to do with the 64 version
It could be that there are no 64bit drivers for the phone available. I use Win7 x32 and it is a hassle getting it first sync'd up. What I normally do is just put the phone in bootloader mode before plugging in the USB cable. That way it only downloads the drivers it needs the first time.
Usually takes me a few resets of the PC and a couple Mobile Device Center restarts to get it to start ticking. Perhaps try downloading the latest Mobile Device Center, even if yours is the latest... just install over the existing installation. That's worked for me a few times.
Is it your first time flashing? Is it a newer Fuze? Because the latest Fuze's have a newer bootloader that is 1.95 (vs 1.90). I haven't found a way around it yet unless perhaps flash an official AT&T rom that has the 1.90 bootloader that may downgrade it... then HardSPL.
Just to add, windows 7 64bit here and haven't noticed one difference or problem with anything.

Nah, had my raphael a long time, have flashed a couple of roms before, i'll try to put it in bootloader mode and let it install the driver, i'll keep searching for a customruu that works for 7 x64, Thanks for the reply
i got syncing working, uninstalled the driver for the mobile remote adapter, and let it download a new one from windows uppdate, and now it works, stange since it's the same driver as before...
I was having the same problem with windows 7 x64 and the fuze... found my solution elsewhere so i thought i'd post it here in case someone checks here first like me... I needed to install Windows Mobile Device Center to get the driver to work correctly with an active sync connection =)
I have W7 ultimate x64 and I can't flash either. But I don't mind. I just put the .nbh on the memory card, start up customRUU and it puts my phone in boot loader itself then installs the ROM off th ememory card.
even there's already a WMDC on win7, I tried to download it again from brothersoft, then it's update the driver..... done!
btw I'm using win7 x86, so I haven't tried on x64...

I can't post a pic or link...
I just installed W7, and after a lot of googling, still can't figure out how to flash my phone from it! I downloaded and installed Windows Mobile Device Center, and it syncs successful. How do I flash my phone with it?
I tried the regular old way, but with that RUU doesn't go past the progress bar screen. It's stuck at 0% for some time, then gives me an error.
Please help.
In my Windows 7 everything is ok while I'm flashing ROM. You must use this version of Windows Mobile Device Center:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=46f72df1-e46a-4a5f-a791-09f07aaa1914
Hmm, yes I'm running the same version.
Do one thing, connect your phone Active Sync mode, and open Device Manager and check whether your phone comes under 'Mobile Device' or 'Portable Device'.
It comes under Mobile Device
This Guide works flawlessly, i just did those steps half hour ago as i reinstalled my win7

In the guide it says: "Expand the 'Mobile devices' section and click the 'HTC USB Sync' (or similarly named) item."
My phone comes under 'Portable Devices'. Because of that there's problem installing the drivers.

incorrect....you need to download Windows XP mode from Microsoft online(search it on google) then run the installler, etc... then run Windows XP mode, plug in your phone through USB and in the top corner of the Windows XP mode under the USB tab click attach "wizard usb serial" or whatever is the appropriate name.Hope that helps!!!
Nope, when RUU starts to do the upgrade, Conection fails on Windows XP mode, axactly the same on Win7. The solution? Good old fashioned Win XP.

When i used xp mode i found that in order to have a successful flash you must hard reset your phone before you flash, mount the device with the RUU running from the desktop, and once the RUU begins you must remount your device once it gos into the boot screen(it shows up as unidentified...but its the one highest up in the list)then your device will do its thing and then you magically have a new ROM! Hope this helps, and yes obviously Windows XP is a better solution but the thread is updating a ROM on Windows 7...
OK, i got it... im downgrading my PC to Windows XP SP3...
Thanks guys
no need to downgrade OS, use vmware to install XP inside it

When your Wizard is starting up, there comes a screen with in the left up corner some info like CID etc. When your Wizard is CID unlocked, then there behind CID x.xx.olip.
I know that it works with a g4 version of the wizard. Look around for more info
Edit: This is only when you succesfully installed Hardspl
I just flashed a rom on my p3300 yesterday and I did it on Windows 7 ultimate.. For me it was working just like that..
Today I will try my fathers Wizard on it
**edit**
No luck on Windows 7 installing WM6.5 on the wizard..
I installed XP on VMware and that worked for me..
Used activesync 4.5 on it.. Installed the CR96 WM6.5 of Cracing
Works like a charm!!
So yeah... Install VMware, that will be the best way to flash your Wizard.
Holla!
*NOTE*THIS GUIDE WILL NOT LET YOU FLASH AN ANDROID HTC ONE M8 TO WINDOWS. THERE IS NO KNOWN WAY OF DOING THIS AS OF ME WRITING THIS COMMENT */NOTE*
I decided to make this guide because many non-tech/phone people will likely be trying out Windows 10 Mobile 10536 and will run into problems if they upgrade from a previous build, or eventually want to move to a new build.
Had a failure with Windows 10 Mobile? Had a botched update of some kind? As long as you can see the HTC boot screen when you power on your phone, you should be able to reflash your phone back to Windows Phone 8.1 and start over again!
The Windows Phone recovery tool (last I was aware) does not support the Verizon version of the HTC One M8 for Windows, so this method is the ONLY method for restoring the phone back to Windows Phone 8.1.
What you will need:
ACDU (the rom update utility)
Rom for your carrier:
Verizon(rom only)
AT&T(includes ACDU)
T-Mobile(includes ACDU)
USB cable (I recommend using original HTC cable to avoid problems)
Possibly USB drivers (if you don't have them when you get to the serial=>USB step, read later)
My handy reference video that is a bit old. I recommend watching this video at least ONCE before trying anything!
If you are able to, I recommend performing a backup of your phone before doing flashing any of these roms. Also, you should probably eject your SDcard just to be on the safe side. THIS WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE. It is my experience that a Windows 10 Mobile backup will restore on a Windows 8.1 Phone. If the phone uses any Authenticators, make sure you unattach those Authenticators from the accounts they are associated with before doing this!
Step 1: Extract ACDU to a folder.
Step 2: Extract your carrier's rom into the same folder as ACDU
Step 3: Make sure phone is NOT plugged into USB and 100% fully charged! Leave your data cable unplugged at this time!
Step 4: Shut down the phone. If the phone will not shut down because the metro screen will not appear or for for some other reason, ejecting the SIM card tray will normally force the phone to reboot. If that fails, then try holding the power button + vol down for several seconds and this will force the power off.
Step 5: With the phone off now hold both vol buttons, and then press power to power the phone. Keep holding both volume buttons down until you see a white screen with bar codes and your IMEI and other information on. This screen should read "serial" on the bottom (*note* NEVER post a picture of this screen anywhere without blacking out the barcodes and information!).
Step 6A: Plug in your phone to USB. If the prompt at the bottom changes from "serial" to "USB", then proceed to Step 7, otherwise check the Step 6B.
Step 6B: If did not change to the USB prompt, open your PC's device manager and see if you have an unknown device. If you do see an unknown device: Click on the Start button, then type: "Device installation settings." Change "Never install driver software from Windows Update" to "Install driver software from Windows Update if it is not found on my computer." The HTC driver should now download and install. Once you see the "USB" prompt on your phone, you are ready to continue. Change the driver setting back to its default if you have drivers you do not want Windows Update to upgrade.
Step 7: With the USB prompt now displayed, run "ROMUpdateUtility.exe" and select yes at the Admin privileges prompt.
Step 8: Sit back and watch the phone flash the ROM. Once the first phase of the flashing is done, you will see the HTC logo appear, and it will disappear and appear again. The phone should now proceed to boot into Windows Phone 8.1.
As far as the Verizon version of the rom goes, this rom is the shipping rom, so you will need to install all of the updates to have the newest version of Windows Phone 8.1. I recommend installing these updates before attaching a Microsoft account to the phone and restoring a backup. I recommend factory resetting the phone after installing all updates, THEN restoring your backup from your Microsoft account.
I hope this guide will help those avoid some of the pitfalls that comes with testing Windows 10 Mobile!

That is very strange. What carrier HTC One M8 where you attempting to flash? Normally that kind of error would indicate bad flash memory.

The official Windows Phone recovery tool doesn't work for all carriers HTC One M8's, namely the Verizon one isn't covered.
I updated the Verizon ROM link with an active download link. Thanks arnoldcp for letting me know.

This must have been a recent change. The first time I tired using Windows 10 Mobile preview builds in March of 2015, the recovery tool did not support the Verizon model, leaving people who installed it completely screwed.
I'm a bit shocked that no one told me sooner about the bad Verizon rom download link (after 160+ people downloaded it). The file was corrupted somehow. I have changed it with a working file that should be okay now.
Windows Phone 10
Is there a ROM we can use to flash the phone to Windows 10 without having to go all the way back to 8.1 and in turn having to perform numerous updates to get into Windows Phone 10?
Not at this time. In reality, from original 8.1 on my phone, I only needed two small updates, then the large Windows 10 Update.
That could change with production Windows 10 Mobile. After that comes out, perhaps Microsoft will update the the recovery tools with Windows 10 Mobile roms?

Well, thanks for your help! I would have been lost without your guide as the Windows Device Recovery Tool was not working for my phone. I do hope the production build of Windows 10 Mobile comes out soon.
All the best,
JM
It appears that Windows 10 Mobile has finally launched. The HTC One M8 isn't on the current list of phones receiving official updates (HTC has said they will support updates for the HTC One M8 for a bit longer, so I have no doubt we'll see an official W10M update).
I don't see the phone as being ready for prime time on Windows 10 Mobile until after HTC issues software updates to the Dot View case software, and perhaps a firmware update to address wrong battery levels being reported. The old software doesn't seem to play well with the Alarms app (all alarms do not sound when a Dot View case is engaged!?), and Dot View is just about completely broken as well. Other then the show stopping Dot View issues, I think the software is ready for prime time. Last last major show stopping bug for the W10M builds in general, the keyboard not swiping in Edge, has been cleared.
So I did see the comment in the OP but just to clarify... does this mean I can not take my BL unlocked, rooted Verizon M8 and flash windows 8.1 or win 10 on it to try out? This is not possible ever?
Hi, good day. I'm investigating before i upgrade to w10 and i cant get my phone to work with the USB Drivers. I have followed all the steps and nothing. If i connect the phone to the PC, it does recognize it and does everything as it should with the data but i open HTC Suite it won't detect it. Also if i open wdrt the phone is shown there but if i click on it it sends me to boot loader mode (shows me the steps on how to get in)... I do everything as described there (comparing with your guide) and the serial thing is shown... But i connect the USB and nothing changes. Installed some drivers that ive found here and there but nothing changes. Don't know what to do next since i cant find more drivers... Thanks!
Is it also possible to flash an AT&T or T-Mobile rom onto a Verizon phone (if you root the phone; Verizon has probably locked the rom)? For Verizon has in the software locked out most of the european 4G bands, while AT&T and T-Mobile just let them open.
I'll be using my phone on the European networks, so it's nice if 4G actually works.
