Help with flashing - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Can I flash RemICS v3.0 coming from CM10 Alpha4?
I think that wipe data, dalvik band then flash the ROM should be enought.
Sorry for my bad english

^ No don't do it blindly. Recently a developer got his phone hard-bricked trying to flash something on cm10 alpha4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048672
Read a lot and make sure you understand what might happen before attempting this.
Also, you can safely flash any c-rom if it is based on cm10 alpha 4. The above applies only if you are giong to something else.

Thanks for your reply

U r moving to a different base. Read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844062 and follow the instructions over there.:good:

Updating ROMs

I've looked around for a little while and can't find any thread that says how to go from one build of a custom ROM to another... I feel extremely noobish asking this as well. I'm on build 11 of bean's custom JB ROM and there have been three new builds and I'm wondering if I need to do a full wipe as if I were flashing a ROM from stock, or if I just go ahead and do a dirty flash... Thanks in advance for the help

It's really at your own discretion. You can dirty flash, but you might have issues, but clean flashes are always the best path to take. Although, sometimes the devs do recommend a clean flash on some releases when they change something major.

Personally I always dirty flash. A couple of times I've encountered problems, made a backup then wiped to troubleshoot the problem, but its never fixed anything so I just revert to my backup. YMMV
Just read and follow the install instructions for the specific rom.

The OP usually tells you what you need to do. If there are major changes, they will tell you to wipe. Sometimes, dirty flashing is okay, just make sure that you follow the directions from the dev that created the ROM.

But if you encounter errors after dirty flashing, always do a full wipe and reflash before reporting them.

Just dirty flash it. Backup your apps and etc... prior just in case you do run into issues.

Format and flash.
As a general rule, I do an App backup (I tend to like My Backup Pro for app backups), a full nandroid backup, then dirty flash (wiping dalvik/cache) and see how it goes. Best case, everything works and I save myself a ton of time not having to restore apps/reapply settings. Worst case, if I have problems that don't seem to be generally reported, I do a full wipe and clean install.

(Q) Brick bug?

I'm rooting a friends at&t skyrocket tomorrow that is on official ics update from at&t and was wondering if that brick bug was still present.I know i might be a little late with this. I was told by a friend that it was only present on the ics leaks for this phone and just wanted to make sure now that this has official ics that i won't have any problems worrying about a brick on my hands by wiping data factory reset in cwm. Go easy on me please I was on the OG evo when all of this brick stuff happened so I never payed much attention to it
Thanks in advance

Regardless, wiping data/factory reset using cwm won't effect anything. I'm pretty sure that problem was the result of wiping in the phones settings menu (if I remember right).

Honestly, i'm not sure. I never really worried about it. Always use CWM for wiping and never had a problem with anything.
I think it happens when you try to format the internal SD card. Its an emmc bug (I think) but I don't have the bug and my i777 doesn't have it. I thought it was on the specific kernel for the i777 and the international variants.

No sense in rooting if your gonna flash aokp. Just push cwm with Odin and flash away:thumbup: you can flash without rooting as long as you have a custom recovery installed

Just follow the sticky here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
Once you get it rooted with CWM, i'd suggest updating CWM to this version - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777970
If you're looking for the JellyBean version of AOKP, i'd really suggest this - http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34092-aokp-unofficial-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-i727-nov-04-milestone-1/
As far as flashing it, I:
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-mounts & storage [format /system]
-advanced [wipe dalvick cache]
-flash rom
-flash gapps
-reboot
*you can do these x2 or x3 each if you wish just to be sure everything is clear*
Hopefully some of this will help if you already don't know any of it. Any other questions, shoot me a pm if you need or i'm sure someone here can help.

Please help! Sph-d710bst need root support

I want to start by saying i am very new to rooting, kernels, roms etc. so if someone could help me with some detailed steps i would greatly appreciate it. I recently purchased my sph d710bst (i know is pretty old) and have it currently rooted with AGATS fi27 kernel v0.6.8. Everything works great but I'm getting a little tired of the ROM. I've tried flashing new kernels through odin (pc) so i can get CM, AOKP or really any new kernel and ROM lol. But i haven't been able to successfully flash anything. After the kernel flash and loading the ROM through recovery i always get (status 7). On top of all that, nothing seems to be compatible with my device as I've found after purchasing the pro versions of everything ( mobile Odin, ROM manager, etc). Again any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

Im having the same problem, ive looked everwhere and can not find any roms or kernel for the SPH-d710bst epic 4g gs2. I have read that all kernels for the SPH-d710 should work how ever ive tryed a bunch and it bricks it. I did get a nightly cyanomod to work but it took a big of work and i didnt use a gapp so i didnt have the google stuff nor did i have data. I am waiting for a stable one to come out and ill use that, the gapp and jp's modems and it will work. You can try that with the nightly cyanomod, but make sure u get the gapp and jp modems for data, also u must have bussybox and it says cmm but agat worked for the flash then after the flash do a factorywipe wipchetch and dev and then reflash cmod then gapp the modem then boom u should be good. Ps if phone gets bricked just use jp's stock one click "wit data".Psps: If anyone has any other known mods kernel or roms please list them for us.

Flashoholics!!

Just trying to be helpful here, here is a faster way to get from stock one-click to JB goodness.....
After you flash to stock with antonx kernel reboot into recovery and flash bhundvens blastoff kernel, reboot recovery, now you should be in blue 5.0.2.8....flash the newest cm9, it will reboot automatically into recovery for you to flash a second time, but don't, instead flash a JB Rom, (I flashed chaos from dao) once it rebooted into recovery...jellybean recovery, I flashed the Rom plus gapps. Rom booted just fine.
So.....save a little time from completely flashing the whole rom, waiting for it to boot and rebooting into recovery just to do it again till you get where you want.....cheers
hopefully it saves you some time
************************just like everyone else says "I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE"*****************
just one-click back and start over hee hee!!!!
If you're saying flashing a kernel with CWM 5.x and then flashing a JB ROM is faster, we all know that already.
You are not flashing the kernel first technically. What you are doing is converting the file system.
However I thought all the JB roms had the mtd conversion script included. If they dont I would ask the person that ported them to update it with that script. There should never be a reason to flash to ics then jb.

If you go back to our early JB ROMs
It was said to flash cm 9 or be on
a ICS ROM first if coming from GB.
Its said to be different now...
I still don't trust it..out of habit and
because it has always worked..
If I one-click back to stock I always
flash cm9 first then flash JB.

[Q] How to install custom recovery after root?

first things first. I'm a noob. HAHA. but i'm willing to learn.
I recently rooted my phone by using chainfire's CF-AUTO-ROOT and it has stock recovery on it. Now, I want to install a custom recovery, specifically cwm recovery. How will be able to do this? Do I have to unroot then root again? a step by step info will be appreciated. thanks

Your thread is changing direction but I can't resist commenting anyway. If your tablet is rooted, stock I don't think you will see big benefits to a custom ROM. For other tablets I use like the Kindle, Nook and N7 custom roms can make a huge difference. I'm running CM 10.? Or variants of that on those devices. My most used tablet is this 2.7 with stock ROM. If you must try another ROM, I'd suggest a sick based ROM that is deodexed with sound or visual enhancements. Also, changing to a noon, Touchwiz launcher will make big differences. GOOD LUCK!
P.S. quess what a ROMaholic might be.
