I think you need to define what porting is for all these fine people, because they seem to be under the impression that you're brewing your own bases, with no faults.
It's not as simple as finding XXXXX rom and throw it on our phone with a few tweaks to make it run as well as it does on the source phone.
Bugs and issues that we already have will not magically vanish when you port a new rom. Because they're all using the same few bases we already have available (CM9/CM10, Sense 3.6, CM7, etc.)
Can someone explain further please? I'm not too good in this field

I'll take a shot
Porting to me is taking an operating system from device x and using as much of it as possible inside a rom made for our phone to get the same looks and feel as device x ROM.
Like let's look at MikXE for instance its a Sense 3.6 rom, and with some of the added tweaks, not all work because they were coded for a different device. Or the new AOKP, none of the startup tweaks stick, why? Again it was coded for a different device and the language that device understands differs slightly so the Tweaks don't work.
That's like following guides, sometimes the smali code is different, like when I inverted the notification area for MikTouch, the guide said look for 0x9 and change that value to like 0x4 well 0x9 wasn't present in the string of code needed but something like this was 0x423 so the smali needed adapted to function properly. Just like every version of android is different and needs different files, every device is different so the language needs to match that of your device or it won't work.
No none of this could true but it's the words my brain understand

When Riyal comes back both of you take a look at This One. They seem to have it ported to several devices & the one for the Sensation looks particularly POPULAR! Looks like it's loaded with plenty of goodies too.
Edit: LOL....beat me too it.

So give me a reason why not anybody who has abilities and knowledge shouldn't try to fix some of these bugs instead of producing another one in a row of GB/ICS roms for our doubleshot? I would be happy to have a JB rom bugless as much as virtuos infinity rom.

You didn't read through this thread did you? If you read a few posts up, porting is different from brewing your own rom from scratch/addressing bugs. And it also entails more skill and knowledge to do so, which OP probably doesn't have yet
It amazes me how ignorant people can be sometimes... I was hoping by defining what porting is people would be a little more thoughtful before posting, but I guess not
So yeah, I am new user of this phone and I find it awesome. Good phone for a starter like me. My phone isn't rooted yet. After months of using stock OS (Gingerbread 2.3.5), I find it inconvenient, I mean, I also have a low memory notifications, can't download desired apps and etc. I found a way to root my phone but I haven't done it 'til now since I'm still looking for good resources. Since I'm new here and most of you guys are already good at this, I need to know what custom ROM - the most stable, fastest, bug-free - will fit our device? Thank you so much!
Hey! .. The most stable rom in my opinion would be Cyanogenmod 9.1 (build 11 by AyushRox) .. And I definitely agree with you that Stock Gingerbread is very inconvenient. !

Hitted. Thank you again!
Sense or non-Sense is completely personal preference. There are reasons to choose Sense like eye candy, HTC apps and not generally breaking the harmony of a HTC device; while AOSP(non-Sense) has its own, like being mostly open source, having features of custom ROMs, being free from HTC framework that some call bloatware and having a more recent version than Sense(4.0.3 vs. 4.1.2(4.2.1 on the way)).
Hi. I'n not a dev or anything and I am really happy about the large choice of ROMs for our little explorer
I personally like iOS, even though some Android users hate it. The only rom which was based on something similar to iOS was Joyos which was based on CM7 which has major bugs such as camera.. Is it possible to create a rom based on iOS 6 using CM9.1 or CM10 as a base?
Something similar to this maybe: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1834375
I know there are launchers and stuff but I'd like to get the closest iOS experience possible on an android.
I'm not that much of an expert here so calling me a noob won't do any good.
Hope I get a positive response

Hey people
In this noob friendly thread, I am going to provide you with screenshots and information about every ROM, SCRIPT,KERNEL and anything else related to the dear HTC Pico. In this thread, you can:
1. Ask questions about the ROMS
SCRIPTS
KERNELS etc.
2. Report problems faced while using any of the above mentioned software
3. Provide solutions to the problems
4.Ask for help on a particular subject etc
However as per the rules of the forum don't advertise, try to buy or sell stuff or do anything barred by the moderators
Sorry for the inconvenience but I will be posting info and pics abt each and every ROM, KERNEL AND SCRIPT in a new post . So please don't get bugged .
Enjoy!
AT FIRST THIS MAY SEEM LIKE A THREAD TO BE POSTED IN THE GENERAL SECTION BUT AS THE THREAD DEVELOPS ROMS SCRIPTS AND KERNELS WILL BE IN THE SAME PLACE SO THE FIRST FEW PAGES WILL BE SORT OF LIKE A GUIDE ON WHAT SUBJECTS TO ASK QUESTIONS ON. I INTENDED TO FORM THIS THREAD IN THE Q&A SECTION
Pure aosp roms for pico
Pure AOSP ROMSs are sort of like the stock ROMS released by google on their nexus phones and are also the most popular ROMS on xda
Some of then for the pico are
CYANOGENMOD 9 by sakindia123
CYANOGENMOD 10 by sakindia123
CYANOGENMOD 7 by sakindia123
If there are others which are not inc, used in this list, please feel free to post about them
Detailed info about these ROMS can be found in the next few posts
Cyanogenmod 9(.1)
CYANOGENMOD 9 is an aftermarket distribution of android ice cream sandwich from 4.0 through 4.0.4
Recognized developer sakindia123 has been successful in porting a fully stable build of cm9 to the pico
This is not just a theme , it is a fully functional ics rom
CM9 build #10
What works?
This rom is fit to be your daily driver. In short everything meant to work, works
- Audio
- FM Radio(Use Spirit FM from Play Store)
- Hardware Acceleration
- RIL
- Bluetooth
- Wifi
- GPS
- Video
- Camera(Taking Pictures)
- USB Tethering(3rd party app WORKS)
- Voice Search(It was a bug ! )
- HQ Videos - to acquire better playback a third party app such as mx player is recommended
- Video Recording
What Doesnt Work
Like I said its fully stable
Screenshots coming as thread develops
Cyanogenmod 10
The most sought after version of android has finally made itself to our humble pico. Yes, thanks to sakindia123, Liverpool fan and bhargz, cyanogenmod10 has been ported to the pico
What works
Bluetooth
Camera (stills/camcorder/panorama)
RIL
GPS
Audio
Wi-Fi
Project butter
Video Recording
Hardware Acceleration
SD Card
ADB
Mobile data ( in most cases )
Voice search
Video decoding (50%)
What doesn't work?
Video decoding (50%)
Like I said screenshots coming as thread develops
Cyanogenmod 7
Though not that useful now that cm10.1 is in the works, but a ROM is a ROM
CYANOGENMOD 7 is an aftermarket distribution of android 2.3 gingerbread
Thanks to sakindia123, lirokoa, derefas, LiVeRpOoL-FaN, rom2maru and a few others who have all worked hard to port CyanogenMod 7 to our HTC Explorer/Pico. We now finally have a usable, stable, and extremely smooth CM7 that can run on our devices. However, This is still an alpha build according to sakindia123's post. There are still somethings that don't work.
Whats Working-
- WiFi
- Hardware acceleration
- RIL
- Gps // derefas
- Audio // lirokoa
- Usb Mass Storage
- Bluetooth // lirokoa
- USB Tethering
- Fm Radio
What Doesnt work-
- Camera
- Phone sometimes reboots when playing videos(Kindly use 3rd party apps)
Screenshots as thread develops
Well apart from a few smaller ROMS , this brings us to the end of the AOSP category. Now for the cool, themed ROMS
Some of them are
Mild wild
Jaggy Rom
Htc sense 4.0
Next gen
MIUI
Ninja
Infused
Xperia fused
Senseless
Info on these in the upcoming posts
Whats the point of this thread?, and that so in q/a section??

Dude. This thread isn't complete. There are a lot of people who are really confused about roms scripts and kernels. Once my posts are done this thread will be really useful. I have seen many people ask in dev threads about different roms and scripts and they aren't supposed to talk about it in dev threads. Here they will have reviews of these things all in one place. And it is not compulsory to read it. If you want to read it please do so and if you dont, I am not forcing you. Cheers

project butter
Im new to our little pico and i just want to ask what project butter is . And where i could get it ?
Hey... really nice..
Please do add complete bug reports though.. here's my contribution. Add it as May be "experienced by some ".
So, it'll be really helpful to have a overview.
What doesn't work in cm10.1?:
1.video decoding (newbies will not understand video decoding.. May be video recording @ some resolutions174*140 most 3rd party video recorders don't work),
2.mobile data fluctuates or unstable
3.calls.. robotic call ..some even reported calls could not be taken
4.headphones cannot be used during call
5.google chrome will give fuzzy graphics and fuzzy screen.
6.Offline voice typing doesn't work
Pros:
Video playback is much better than cm9
Foreign language rendering has been made near perfect
Smooth latest bhargz build. Unbeatable
.etc
What doesn't work in cm9 ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35756952#post35756952
2.VIDEO PLAYBACK doesn't work.
Click here to download and check a podcast just one video in there.. named new series.. try it yourself)
Taking about mx hw+,bs,qq,vlc,etc
Original HTC STOCK ROM
1.if you ever click "reset to default" in the Camcorder settings..,all future video recordings will overwrite already taken videos and all previous videos will be lost
2.sending a more than 150MB file on Bluetooth file manager app through Bluetooth will reboot your device.
Extensive + and- will really be useful.
So, that newbies will not have to search the entire thread to know whether a most wanted feature(according to them) is present or not, when they upgrade.
And I think it'll be more useful if you move this thread to general. In general also, questions can be asked and replied.. you'll have to pm a moderator to move I think.

Hi
Project butter increases the frame rate and enables faster animations. So basically it makes your phone much smoother while doing things like opening apps, multitasking, switching between screens etc.
It is not an app. It was introduced in android jellybean.
Thanks to sakindia123, we have cm10(4.1.2) jellybean with 75% project butter (project margarine). However sakindia123 yesterday has compiled cm10.1 alpha 1. It almost has project butter. He recently issued a statement saying that he compiled an alpha 2 of cm10.1 with full project butter. Which rom are you running on right now

Ok.. I've updated the 1St. Post above.
Take a look..
Once again, please do add full bug reports.. The "nothing really" in every thread really bugs me out.
Kernel 3:
Bugs
1.random reboots
2.temple run 2 reboots
when combined with cm9 (any version),
3.firewalls don't work
4.USB tethering 5.Wi-Fi hotspots don't work
(sense kernel 3 doesn't have one of the above 2 bugs,I think)
When combined with cm10 Rom
3 ,4 and 5doesn't occur
Kernel 2
No problem I've seen as yet, except May be lag(very less compared to cranium kernel)
Sense kernel(stock based)
Kernel cranium #3 by sakindia123
1.applications cannot be installed in SD card (native move 2SD)
2.not much lag
Cranium #2:
1.heavy lag
2.bug mentioned in build #3 doesn't occur here.. apps can be installed in SD card
Pros
Cranium kernel has the best battery backup ever.. 100 to 97 during the night

i'm very interested in your idea will your rom have Touchwiz 4??
---------- Post added at 09:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:52 PM ----------
and will it work smooth like cm7???
I prefer stock GB rather than Tocuhwiz'd GB. Also I doubt Touchwiz 4 was made to support the G3 in the first place.

That device has a different chip set to the i5800. Different GPU, CPU, etc. Only the resolution is the same. It would be best to base it on cm7 a9 and modify the themes, etc from there. That's probably your best chance at getting a touchwiz looking ROM. You won't be able to use stock touchwiz apps either without modifying them because they need touchwiz framework. (Might be wrong though.. This is all coning from my memory...)

Cm7 has more customisability and a theme engine (that's why I suggested it). You might be able to find some mdpi/ldpi touchwiz 4 themes for cm7 in the play store. Aosp is good but has it been updated to include the a9 patches/fixes? If so, then he could use that to have a more lightweight rom.

actually i know that the GPU CPU are different but all im saying is that comparing the froyo codes they have similarities and i am not really planning on basing my ROM on it...i just wanna use it as a reference... and as it was pointed earlier there are many ROMs based on cm7 and so i think i am giving it a shot... i appreciate ur input and i will consider it but i wanna give it a shot from multiple angles thank u
