Port requests - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I wasn't sure about doing any cm7 ports since our cm7 is so buggy

Could u talk to blahblah either about porting PyRomod or having him do it?
I have spoke to him before but no such luck.

What about CM10 or any other JB rom?

I think you need to define what porting is for all these fine people, because they seem to be under the impression that you're brewing your own bases, with no faults.
It's not as simple as finding XXXXX rom and throw it on our phone with a few tweaks to make it run as well as it does on the source phone.
Bugs and issues that we already have will not magically vanish when you port a new rom. Because they're all using the same few bases we already have available (CM9/CM10, Sense 3.6, CM7, etc.)
Can someone explain further please? I'm not too good in this field

I'll take a shot
Porting to me is taking an operating system from device x and using as much of it as possible inside a rom made for our phone to get the same looks and feel as device x ROM.
Like let's look at MikXE for instance its a Sense 3.6 rom, and with some of the added tweaks, not all work because they were coded for a different device. Or the new AOKP, none of the startup tweaks stick, why? Again it was coded for a different device and the language that device understands differs slightly so the Tweaks don't work.
That's like following guides, sometimes the smali code is different, like when I inverted the notification area for MikTouch, the guide said look for 0x9 and change that value to like 0x4 well 0x9 wasn't present in the string of code needed but something like this was 0x423 so the smali needed adapted to function properly. Just like every version of android is different and needs different files, every device is different so the language needs to match that of your device or it won't work.
No none of this could true but it's the words my brain understand

Hi mat! if you don't mind could you port any of the Viper ROMs for our device? Their tweaks are just way too awesome for me to drool lol!

I found that viper rom on sensation but it is 4.1 sense. Can you port that onto sense 4.0? And I heard virtuous doesn't like people to use their stuff.

When Riyal comes back both of you take a look at This One. They seem to have it ported to several devices & the one for the Sensation looks particularly POPULAR! Looks like it's loaded with plenty of goodies too.

So give me a reason why not anybody who has abilities and knowledge shouldn't try to fix some of these bugs instead of producing another one in a row of GB/ICS roms for our doubleshot? I would be happy to have a JB rom bugless as much as virtuos infinity rom.

You didn't read through this thread did you? If you read a few posts up, porting is different from brewing your own rom from scratch/addressing bugs. And it also entails more skill and knowledge to do so, which OP probably doesn't have yet
It amazes me how ignorant people can be sometimes... I was hoping by defining what porting is people would be a little more thoughtful before posting, but I guess not

this is what I'm talking about... real rom support for the epic.
we have such amazing devs who put some amazing things (looking at you acs, nova, marcusant, and many others), but in the end, it's all either trying to be aosp or just modding what we already have. if this can help the CM7 team, or the guys working on miui, then we can really have some fun with the roms.
I love this phone and am happy to see it not get lost in the shuffle

agreed. my point was that it'll be good for us to get some more devs behind CM7 and MIUI. Sure, that just means they'll be a million variations of those, but then we'll have them. right now your options are touchwiz or as close to aosp as possible, but still with touchwiz framework. CM alone will open the doors

Hi, All NS4G User! Kwiboo.ICS.V3 or Koush.Alpha10

Please tell us which one you are using now and How is it?
I'm using Koush A10, have to say I love it. I did see any bug so far(2 days)
I was using Kwiboo 1.5, i was really good too.(However USB and camcorder was work.)
Compare to to Kwiboo's rom koush's one seems like a little laggy.
So tell me which one you using?
Kwiboo rom is the fastest but aosp rom has the most features and the only one to have home screen landscape mode but koush rom is the first I tried with the most working features idk if one is better than the other
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Both are nice. I had the fewest problems with Koush.
The speed is just not there though. After a full bug-free day with Koush I went back to 2.3.7 because it's just so much faster. I'm not encouraged about ICS on this device.
Netiher, tried them both and I must say they are good but they don't even touch AOSP's ICS rom. Get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364221
This has been rock solid so far only thing I can see that is missing is 4G.

It does that to me too and I'm guessing the stock browser dosent have the proper files in order to download, so in that case it won't download anything. But I've been using xscope to to download roms, kernels, etc.. for now.
there's really no comparing any ics build with aosp's. . .
i'm so thankful for it. seemed like gsm nexus s was getting all the ics love
Yeah didn't work for me but I'm not to concerned.Still like this one the best for my use. I know everyone has different opinions and that's whats cool.
Neither
I was on oICS, liked it better than the 2 that the OP mentioned, but now I'm on Brainmasters build for NS4G, & for my phone, it's the best. Out of the box it's faster & smoother than the other builds, even with custom kernels & overclocking.

I could have sworn the problem was in permissions or a lib file.
I could download some files, but not others. For instance, I could download MathKids v11 kernel, but not 11.5. Crazy.

He has a couple versions, one of which is based on Koush I believe.
How does AOSP's ICS ROM compare to a 2.3 ROM like CM7? In my testing of Koush's and another ICS ROM, I couldn't believe how sluggish my NS4G was.
Android Open Source Project
Sweet and obnoxious username choice all at the same time.
I think he means the dev, asop. But yeah, asop's for me atleast has been the snappiest.
Follow the leader @corythug
Friends, I am a lot more confused as which ROM is better... Didn't wanted to test myself was waitin for someone to do it for lazy folks like me... however, the anxiety of ICS can't be kept in back drop any longer... while I type this response I taking backup of data on NS... will try kwiboo's ROM - as it was the first post for ICS port I read... However, I see inclination of couple folks for AOSP ROM... I'll wait for a couple of hrs, if there is one more vote for AOSP I'll try it...
I've tried every ics versions kwiboo and koush's
Brainmaster 's. V6 with kwiboo 's v3 is the best.

im guessing audio will be partially borked in this as there are changes in gerrit that are not merged yet, and without proper workaround (found in earlier states of doubleshot repos, and teamds repos) gtalk chat and g+ hangout will be having audio issues.

Been running this since you posted it in the CM9 thread. Didn't full wipe when coming from Alpha 4 and I can say it's running just fine. Same bugs as Alpha 4, which I expected. Haven't noticed much of a difference at all actually but my battery life has sucked since rooting (damn you stock, I guess you are good for SOMETHING) so I keep flashing away hoping that it will improve. It may just be my imagination (or the fact that the battery is just getting more calibrated) but I have been noticing improvements from update to update. Thanks for putting these "nightlies" out there. There is definitely a place and purpose for teams testing their releases first but one of the reasons I root my phones is so I can get the first fruits and be a tester
I don't have plans to kang this, but I'm intrigued to see what people can come up with. Coming from the Glacier, I am still getting used to the comparatively low development for this device. (That's not necessarily a bad thing, 3 different devs releasing the same compiled AOKP is pretty redundant anyways.)
Thanks again.

It's Pig Latin for Gank. You know, when you take something with out asking. It's just a term given to builds based of source with out any changes. If it had mods, and other goodies it wouldn't be a kang. Then you can kang other peoples work by just changing something a simple as the buld.prop. Kang is used for a lot of things. When I see Kang next to CM9/AOSP/AOKP/MIUI. It's normally good, but a Kang of a stock Rom. Those tend to be stolen work.
Also Kanging is the act of having sex with cankles.

Base rom question????

Looking for a good base rom to use for porting i am just getting started with this and have read several how to's on the subject, just need some suggestions to get started.
A good idea would be to use cyanogenmod alternative.
For example if it's a gingerbread Rom then use cm 7 and so on.
Even I am not so good at this.
So forgive me I am wrong

Yeah, depends on what you're porting, but you should use equivalent base roms, like ICS -> ICS, GB -> GB and so on
JB -> JB.....
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
Also if porting sense, be sure to do the same thing with the sense version. 2.2 to 2.2, 3.0 to 3.0 ect. One more thing is to only port deodex ROMs. There is a lot less work that way.
And make sure you get permission to use the base ROM and the ROM you are porting before you post anything up.

I prefer stock GB rather than Tocuhwiz'd GB. Also I doubt Touchwiz 4 was made to support the G3 in the first place.

I prefer stock GB rather than Tocuhwiz'd GB. Also I doubt Touchwiz 4 was made to support the G3 in the first place.

That device has a different chip set to the i5800. Different GPU, CPU, etc. Only the resolution is the same. It would be best to base it on cm7 a9 and modify the themes, etc from there. That's probably your best chance at getting a touchwiz looking ROM. You won't be able to use stock touchwiz apps either without modifying them because they need touchwiz framework. (Might be wrong though.. This is all coning from my memory...)

Cm7 has more customisability and a theme engine (that's why I suggested it). You might be able to find some mdpi/ldpi touchwiz 4 themes for cm7 in the play store. Aosp is good but has it been updated to include the a9 patches/fixes? If so, then he could use that to have a more lightweight rom.

actually i know that the GPU CPU are different but all im saying is that comparing the froyo codes they have similarities and i am not really planning on basing my ROM on it...i just wanna use it as a reference... and as it was pointed earlier there are many ROMs based on cm7 and so i think i am giving it a shot... i appreciate ur input and i will consider it but i wanna give it a shot from multiple angles thank u
