Hi, All NS4G User! Kwiboo.ICS.V3 or Koush.Alpha10 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please tell us which one you are using now and How is it?
I'm using Koush A10, have to say I love it. I did see any bug so far(2 days)
I was using Kwiboo 1.5, i was really good too.(However USB and camcorder was work.)
Compare to to Kwiboo's rom koush's one seems like a little laggy.
So tell me which one you using?

Kwiboo rom is the fastest but aosp rom has the most features and the only one to have home screen landscape mode but koush rom is the first I tried with the most working features idk if one is better than the other
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium

Both are nice. I had the fewest problems with Koush.
The speed is just not there though. After a full bug-free day with Koush I went back to 2.3.7 because it's just so much faster. I'm not encouraged about ICS on this device.

Netiher, tried them both and I must say they are good but they don't even touch AOSP's ICS rom. Get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364221
This has been rock solid so far only thing I can see that is missing is 4G.

It does that to me too and I'm guessing the stock browser dosent have the proper files in order to download, so in that case it won't download anything. But I've been using xscope to to download roms, kernels, etc.. for now.

there's really no comparing any ics build with aosp's. . .
i'm so thankful for it. seemed like gsm nexus s was getting all the ics love

Yeah didn't work for me but I'm not to concerned.Still like this one the best for my use. I know everyone has different opinions and that's whats cool.

Neither
I was on oICS, liked it better than the 2 that the OP mentioned, but now I'm on Brainmasters build for NS4G, & for my phone, it's the best. Out of the box it's faster & smoother than the other builds, even with custom kernels & overclocking.

Can you tell us which files are missing from the browser??
I could have sworn the problem was in permissions or a lib file.
I could download some files, but not others. For instance, I could download MathKids v11 kernel, but not 11.5. Crazy.

I'm on BM v6 (Koush a11) here, with franco's 26/11 kernel. It's blazing fast.

Another vote for AOSP's v13. It's great, smooth and cant wait for v14.

See my sig for my setup; it's been working great for me.

He has a couple versions, one of which is based on Koush I believe.

How does AOSP's ICS ROM compare to a 2.3 ROM like CM7? In my testing of Koush's and another ICS ROM, I couldn't believe how sluggish my NS4G was.

Android Open Source Project
Sweet and obnoxious username choice all at the same time.

I think he means the dev, asop. But yeah, asop's for me atleast has been the snappiest.

Friends, I am a lot more confused as which ROM is better... Didn't wanted to test myself was waitin for someone to do it for lazy folks like me... however, the anxiety of ICS can't be kept in back drop any longer... while I type this response I taking backup of data on NS... will try kwiboo's ROM - as it was the first post for ICS port I read... However, I see inclination of couple folks for AOSP ROM... I'll wait for a couple of hrs, if there is one more vote for AOSP I'll try it...

I've tried every ics versions kwiboo and koush's
Brainmaster 's. V6 with kwiboo 's v3 is the best.
Thanks

[Q] Advice

I need advice on which build to download of ICS? I had the original Cyanogenmod9 but the music and camera features were too buggy. I am having trouble finding the updated build for it. I also need the latest GAPP files as well. Can you someone help me out?
There's a few different threads on this. You need to READ, your previous two posts in this forum were useless as well, had you read then you wouldn't have needed to post.
There's plenty out there, but one that I don't recommend for now is EaglesBlood. It's a great first build, but it still has its bugs.

You can find a link to the 2/15 ics gapps in this thread:

On the ICS ROM's I recommend Hellfire Sandwich v1.2. Have been using this as a daily driver for a little while and no problems. Look here:

One other suggestion, please learn to to use the search functions. The links above are very easy to find.

Ya same here, loving the hard work our devs put out to make ics more stable every day. But I just can't get rid of this Hellfire Phoenix rom, its been an unforgettably stable (perfect) rom since the beginning.
Really greatful to doniccq too since he taught xohellox to dev for the g2x, and his eaglesblood rom is equally as great.

Not being funny, but how many times has this question been asked?= too many times! Without appearing rude, perhaps you should search a little through the Q&A threads & read the many answers people have posted to this ( many times asked! ) question!
Even better idea! Go to the devlopment section & download a few for yourself to try!
Try them out! That's the best way. I like codename android 1.4 with Matr1x kernel. Just to give you somewhere to start

You've got to just try them out. I started with gummynex..was good..i tried CyberGR-MOD...stuck to it for few weeks...also liked it..very stable everything working.. now i am using Nuhetri-reloaded v 3.01...it seems to be extremely stable..based on ICS 4.04 an I am using Air Kernel 3.3 and liking it a lot.. i am finding it's been the fastest / smoothest ROM i have tried to date...
go on...be a FLASH WHORE
the NexusMV roms are on the top of my list
My favorite is nuhetri-reloaded-v3.0.1 and for me it was very stable and smooth. I use nuhetri's rom since v2.3.0 without any issue. No lags and no reboots

If you don't trust these numbskulls, go check the forums for your phone and see which one has has the highest views/thread count. Those are usually your best bet for a good (stable) rom.
I tried 3-4 custom roms. Cyber GR is the best. Fast (though not fastest), stable, lots of useful features.

I suggest you try to flash ROMs and Kernels. Best ROM for me might not be the best for you it depends on how you use your phone. All ICS rooms in the dev section are stable since we have the official ICS update. BTW Im using cyberGr stormy 3 v8. Happy flashing...

Many ICS roms are pretty stable and practically everything works.
I would suggest you look into uni-yuma-porn and remICS-UX .. those are my faves.
CM10 is absolutely amazing of course.. you can't beat the jelly beans
Gps works althought it causes a bit of lag when used, which would be a problem if you use it often. It's up to you really, what best fits your personal use

I don't think it matters...but don't hold me to that one issue you may have come across is rainbow recovery (discoloration or static like lines) which indicates you need GB boot loaders. But since you got official GB through Samsung Kies you should already have them (that's how I got mine)...Buuttttt!! Do you have root?

Thanks. Could you provide links for getting the ROMS you recommend? When I go to the Cyanogen site, for example, they don't list the Infuse as a supported phone. So which one do you use to get the CM10?
Looking at the uni-yuma-porn it says to flash the Rom, then flash the GAPPS, but no clue on what GAPPS is or how to flash it.
You won't find it up in the cyanogenmod site. Our phone is not supported officially by them, but it has been developed unofficially. It works just as well as those official devices since it is build from the same repo.
All roms I mentioned are found right here on xda under infuse android development.
Gapps stands for google apps which includes the play store and many other apps such as the setup when you first boot your phone. They are often linked in every Rom that requires you flash them.

Just checking up on what everything is.
1. Cyanogen is an android custom firmware. -
2. aokp is an android custom rom base
3. porting simply changing the coding to fit from a similiar device to another
4. All the gb/ics/jb custom.roms.mainly run off altered and tailored versions of these 2.
5. odin used to flash and get a recovery in case of bricking.
6. clockworkmod (cwm) similar used for recovery.
So in essence from base of cyan firmware and aokp rom people make alterations and build platforms ex changing kernels, drivers, and cosmetics.
Hummm.... Believe im getting it..correct me if im wrong

Last time just tried MIUI and I can´t get the UI of ICS, Don´t remember what kind of version tired of MIUI though
Roms with aroma installers give you more options for you to customize the installation. Some frequent options are Gapps, kernels, additional apps and whatever the Chef decides to include.

I think you need to define what porting is for all these fine people, because they seem to be under the impression that you're brewing your own bases, with no faults.
It's not as simple as finding XXXXX rom and throw it on our phone with a few tweaks to make it run as well as it does on the source phone.
Bugs and issues that we already have will not magically vanish when you port a new rom. Because they're all using the same few bases we already have available (CM9/CM10, Sense 3.6, CM7, etc.)
Can someone explain further please? I'm not too good in this field

I'll take a shot
Porting to me is taking an operating system from device x and using as much of it as possible inside a rom made for our phone to get the same looks and feel as device x ROM.
Like let's look at MikXE for instance its a Sense 3.6 rom, and with some of the added tweaks, not all work because they were coded for a different device. Or the new AOKP, none of the startup tweaks stick, why? Again it was coded for a different device and the language that device understands differs slightly so the Tweaks don't work.
That's like following guides, sometimes the smali code is different, like when I inverted the notification area for MikTouch, the guide said look for 0x9 and change that value to like 0x4 well 0x9 wasn't present in the string of code needed but something like this was 0x423 so the smali needed adapted to function properly. Just like every version of android is different and needs different files, every device is different so the language needs to match that of your device or it won't work.
No none of this could true but it's the words my brain understand

You didn't read through this thread did you? If you read a few posts up, porting is different from brewing your own rom from scratch/addressing bugs. And it also entails more skill and knowledge to do so, which OP probably doesn't have yet
It amazes me how ignorant people can be sometimes... I was hoping by defining what porting is people would be a little more thoughtful before posting, but I guess not

Fastest most stable rom for the One S right now?

There are so many damn roms and I dont want to spend days testing them all. What is one of the better roms? Right now Im running Jellybam and dont really have many issues at all. What prompted me to come look is that I started up my old Samsung Vibrant and was disappointed at how fast it felt compared to my HTC One S - faster!
So... what do you guys recommend?
I'm using ViperOneS 2.00 and it's perfect to use as a daily driver. You get sense and a lot of tweaks plus new update is in the works
Well i'm using pac man rom latest version and flashed bubbas kernel 2.7 over it and it runs pretty fast. You also get a bunch of tweaks that you can change with the app kernel tuner
