Anyone concerned regarding the slideout keyboard noise?

Well, overall, I think the build quality of the Touch Pro is wonderfull! I love that its slightly heavy too!
But the keyboard slideoutmechanism, although very solid and robust gives away a worrying noise, sorta like its scraping against something. Anyone managed to confirm if this is nothing to worry about? I feel like I damage the device each time I pull it out.. lol

According to me that's the LCD flatcable cover sliding into place. With the device opened you'll find a little latch of sorts at the top of the screen back, that slides shut when opened and opens up to give the LCD flatcable some room to roll itself up in.
Nothing to worry about then!

How are your phones holding up?

I've noticed that the slider functionality of my phone, possibly due to user-abuse, is starting to slide off the rails*. I've also noticed that the top is beginning to extend over the bottom... on the side with the PTT button. Is this my fault, or is everyone else having the same problem.
*To define: hold the phone in your hand, and place your thumb on the bottom-left corner of the top "slider-part", (could someone give me the word that should be used in place of "slider-part") push toward the right... Does the bottom, of the top, of your phone slide out by itself? Mine only moves about an 1/8th of an inch, but I'm curious if everyone shares this problem as well.

My phone slides out about the same 1/8 as yours, but i think it was like that even when it was brand new.

Yes it does happen to me, nothing perfect...it's just the sliding mechanism moving on one side and not the other..

I have the same movement on mine. My fuze is 7 weeks old, I use the sliding mechanism, on average, 3 times a day.
When I received my phone I double checked the sliding mechanism - the same movement was present when new. Based on other posts, this appears to be normal.
Other than that, my fuze is doing well. I purchased the ATT store cover (rubberized cover in two pieces) which is really good (although expensive ). I do find that the rubberized cover makes it difficult to put into my trouser pocket, thus I tend to carry it everywhere I go...

I've had that issue since I got it in Nov last year. Other than that, it's working and looking perfectly well. I should also note that I have an invisible shield that's working wonders for the phone. With it installed, I get a better grip on the phone (doesn't feel like I'm going to drop it), obviously no scratches, and fingerprint issues are far less severe.

My first phone slid off the rails too so I called AT&T and they sent me a reconditioned one. Now the slider on the new one actually pulls away from the main body. So I called AT&T again and they are sending me a another phone. Fingers crossed......

The play in the rails seems normal... I do about 4,500 texts a month... so slide open, slide closed over and over again... still holding strong had the Touch Pro since November of 08

My first kaiser (tilt) had that overhang when closed. It bothered me a lot. AT&T wouldn't exchange it, so I superglued a thin, tiny square of vinyl to the bumper at the end of the track to act like a shim, leaving the top and bottom flush when closed. The next two warranty exchanges I got (for other issues) had no such issue, and thankfully, neither does my fuze.

im uber careful with my phone but its so fragile its just breaking apart. the hard keys are coming up, the slider is now over like everyone else, there are small scratches everywhere, and kinda weird is the camera glass is broken around the edges.

Holding up well to date, but seldom use the keyboard as have grown accustomed to using FITALY on the Fuze.
Also am using Capdase BiFold case for general protection + top shell of Innocase to help ward off the laminate separation that some users have complained of. (Also helps keep things from resting on the screen.)
May be Overkill, but hope to have this unit for some time....

[DPAD] Homebrew D-PAD!

Let me preface this by saying that I recently purchased a Moto Droid. After previously having a CLIQ, and using it a lot for gaming, I was a bit disappointed by the D-PAD's being on the wrong side. But not for long. I knew about the game gripper attachment, but I decided that it was too bulky and expensive for what was really quite a simple problem. So I made my own compact, temporary, reusable D-PAD, to use with emulators! It should work on just about any phone with keys that line up (like the Droid's do) And you can make one too!
It consists of three simple parts, and it's very easy to build. You will need:
1. A disc of some sort. Any material. It should be just a bit smaller than the size of a 9-key square on your device's keyboard. This is the base of the D-PAD. Dimes are a pretty good size for it, and I assume they'd work decently, though I haven't tried. You COULD just use this disc alone on the keyboard, but, depending on the material, it would probably slide way too much to use.
2. A balloon. Cut a piece out of it, preferably circular, just a bit larger than the disc. This will be covering one side of the disc so it doesn't slide.
3. Some adhesive thing to hold it all together. I've found that price tag stickers work pretty well. Glue would be tougher to use for it, but might yield pretty good results. Tape will do in a pinch, but it's not preferred.
Construction is VERY simple. All you need to do is stretch the piece of balloon over one side of the disc. Pull the edges of it over to the other side of the disc, and hold them all in place with the sticker/tape/glue/whatever. You should cut off whatever hangs over the sides afterwards, so that the only thing touching the keyboard is the piece of balloon.
To use it, all you have to do is stick it on a group of 9 keys wherever you want to have a D-PAD. The keys should still be able to click, so it will feel like a real D-PAD. Then, just map buttons in the emulator to those keys!
Well, it works pretty well for me anyway. Some people might not like it, and if not, don't use it! Anyway, I hope this helps some people.

Capacitive Stylus for MyTouch 4G Slide - poor experience

At work, I often have to sign or annotate documents. Adobe Reader will do this, but the signature is not very accurate with fat fingers. (Signnow is much better, but doesn’t work for a different reason!). I thought I’d try using a stylus, so I bought a couple of low-cost ones experimentally but they weren’t great.

Pretty rubbish, with flappy bit of rubber on end. Wasn’t able to press hard enough to draw, so I cut it off and afterwards it didn’t work at all! £1.98

There are others, but many are a lot more expensive. Does anybody have any recommendations of what works well with the MT4GS?

I tried a capacitive stylus on my DesireZ aka Vision, it was basically like a pen with with a firm black rounded rubbery tip like an eraser ball
it worked but it obscured enough of the screen to make it somewhat pointless as you didn't gain any accuracy.
you might be better off trying a bluetooth mouse.

Yes, the ball on the end rather got in the way, something with a shape a bit closer to a pencil or a tapering chisel tip would be better. I'll look at a mouse too, thanks for the suggestion.

As if using your finger doesn't normally obscure the screen...

There are times I'd really like a stylus, say if I'm reading an ebook. But I've tried several different brands of stylii and I'm not really impressed. All of them seemed to work worse than my finger. Often a cheap stylus' touch will cause the screen to zoom instead of scroll. I fear pressing too hard, as my wife scratched her Tab trying to avoid the trend to zoom. If I try another stylus, I'll spend the extra for a quality pen that I can demo before I buy.

Or if you can't stand any of the commercially available ones, you can always make your own!

I found one by accident at Big Lots one day. They had a 2 pack of Duracell screen protectors for IPads with a free stylus for $8. I wasn't expecting much from the stylus, but it's worked really well, and the pen works great on it too. It has the soft rubber tip but I haven't had any issues with it. The diameter is about the same or smaller than a pencil and it obscures a lot less than my finger. There are no markings on it, inside or out.

Can you use the Samsung 8.4 book cover and the official keyboard together?

I know the keyboard is like a cover, however, I'm not too keen on having the back and camera not protected. So can I buy the official book cover, and still having it "closed" in book format with the keyboard?

No you can't, the keyboard increases the size a bit and the cover will not fit both thickness or width wise.. I have both, I wish you could. Outside of that, the keyboard is as good as any third party keyboard functionally, fits really well and doesn't increase the tablet size as much as most keyboard cases and looks great. The battery lasts quite long and charges fast. There is a button that autolocks the tablet when it is closed against the keyboard which is a bonus.. The keyboard doesn't hinge to the tablet which is a little strange, it just sits in a little groove at the top of the keyboard, but it doesn't put any pressure or torque on the tablet. It does make it easy to use it in landscape or portrait. As there's no hinge, you can't adjust the keyboard-to-tablet angle which is a little disappointing, however the angle itself isnt bad. Overall I would recommend it....
But I agree, the camera bit is a bummer

I got the OEM book cover and sent it back. When sitting in it's upright position it wobbles around vary easily when touching the screen. It also collapses out of that position easily because the only thing holding it up is a weak magnet. Not worth the money at all.
