Proclip auto phone holder available in January. - Nexus 4 Accessories

Fyi: I just talked to Proclip on g+ and they say that the car mount will be available in mid January. I can't wait as I have had one for each of my phones and think they are the best.

I also use ProClip with my prior devices. Glad they will be making it for the N4! Cool

Will this utilize Qi charging? That's really the only must have feature for me as far as a car dock goes.

I've ordered one and should be receiving it soon, i hope.
It's being shipped from South Korea, but supposedly via EMS which is their 1 week service.. We'll see.
When I receive it I'll make a full write up with pics and vids for it.

THIS!!! There was a thread about some one making a car dock for the N4 using magnets on the dock, so the N4 will attach. If ProClip could make a Qi wireless charger integrated into a car dock using magnents.... I'LL PAY $100 !!!

The nexus 4 holders are now in stock at proclip and I just ordered mine.

Trying to decide which Nexus 4/ProClip holder to get... I am using the Diztronic TPU case (matte black, if it makes a diff). Should i get the "standard" Nexus 4 ProClip, or the one designed for "medium cases"?
Thanks

Depends if you want to bother removing it or not. If you get the standard you can have an integrated charger.
Shameless self-promotion: Message me if you'd be interested in the standard holder with charger, I'm looking to get rid of mine haha.

You might want to take a look at the Owl CarPad: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029734
It's not perfect. I was going to go with the ProClip, as I always do, but this time I wanted something where I could leave my case/bumper on. The Owl CarPad excels at letting me keep my bumber or any other case on, and still charge the phone. Now, the charge is very low, but it still charges. I'm not happy with the results, but it still charges while playing music, very very easy to dock and remove. And all while keeping my case on.

Inductive Chargers for the Touchpad

Does anyone know if the Powermat or the Energizer charging platforms will work with the TP? I was in Target this past weekend and noticed that they were clearanced for 75% off retail price. The idea is nice but I don't want to waste $30 if it won't work.
No neither one will work with your TP. I don't think it would even recognise it was on the charger.

Yea why would you not go with the touchstone
I really like my TouchStone. Not plugging in cables, and having a real "home" for my TouchPad when not in use is great. Plus it works with the HP case, something I also really like.

you could turn it horizontally so gravity doesn't mess with it, or lay it down flat, then put touchpad on top

Pretty much any case as long as it's not too thick (and doesn't have metal between the tp and ts). I have a 'leather' case that works fine sitting on the ts and a tpu form fitting case that also works well. This one is now permanently on the tp and will fit into the leather case but the two together will not allow the tp to charge on the touchstone.
So it seems there are no "3rd party" chargers available?
I want a touchstone, but all the cheap ones are in the US and they don't ship to Australia
In Australia (or anywhere that is willing to ship here) pretty much charges double for the dock ($70?!), and that's not even counting shipping yet.

RND Nexus 4 dock review

Hey guys, I bought this Nexus 4 dock on Amazon and received it today. It's specifically designed for the Nexus 4 and fits like a glove. It is currently OOS but this dock looks exactly the same and is $10 cheaper than what I paid. D'oh! The dock works with or without a case thanks to a little insert that changes the size of the dock port. I tested the dock with my Diztronic TPU case and without.
What I like about the dock:
Plain and understated design with no logos or blinky LEDs
Matches the Nexus 4 with or without case perfectly
Works with or without a case
The N4 slides onto the micro usb port with little hassle. I think this will end my attempts to put in the micro usb cable upside down in the dark before falling asleep.
Surprisingly, the speaker doesn't sound too muffled despite being covered by the dock. I was able to comfortably have a conversation over speakerphone and watched a couple YouTube videos without issue.
You can lightly tap things on the screen without it tipping over
Charging works fine thus far. You can also plug it into a computer USB port to sync stuff
Cheap, at least compared to a Qi charger
What I don't like:
You need to hold the base with one hand to pull out the N4. It's made out of hollow plastic. A heavier, more solid feel would be nice, but the base would probably have to be made out of iron to slide out the N4 with one hand.
Included USB cable is short, around 3 feet long
Included wall charger works, but looks and feels cheap. I just plugged in my OEM charger instead
Here's a flickr set of some additional pics I took of the dock.
I'd highly recommend this little guy. IMO, current Qi chargers aren't worth the high cost for the extra convenience they provide. This dock strikes a better balance of convenience and price, and doesn't scrap too much on quality where it counts.
Looks decent. I had something similar for my old Evo. Be interesting to compare to the new Orb one. I just like the idea of magnets doing the work and not worrying about misalignment of the usb port.

Agreed, the orb charger looks ideal. That said, I don't think that this dock will hurt my micro usb connector - I can dock it with far less fuss than connecting the wire manually. But maybe that's just me and my poor hand-eye coordination. :highfive:
This looks ideal. Does anyone have a link to order one from Hong Kong? I have much better luck ordering from there to Canada than I do from the US...
Not sure if this is the same dock, but looks almost identical: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KiDiGi-Ne...520772?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2327426fc4
A question to the OP, I noticed from your pics that you were able to use the dock whilst the Nexus was in a Distronic case...was this a comfortable fit? I have bought the Ringke Fusion which is similar in shape to the case you're using.

Yep, the Diztronic case fit perfectly. Not too snug, not too loose. The phone slides down to the USB connector just by gravity alone. You then push the phone down a little and it locks in.

I own 2 of the RND docks, one for an HTC Inspire and one for the Galaxy Note. I went to buy one for the Nexus 4 but it was out of stock then Google had the Orb so I ordered that instead (a lot more expensive but I need to keep the phone for 2 years at least so might as well enjoy it). I really do like these docks, they are very easy to drop your phone into, holds it at a very nice angle and I have never worried about damaging my USB port with it (unlike the Samsung Car Dock which always worried me).
I may still buy one of these for travel as they are small and seem to pack up well. I cant speak to this one specifically as I don't own it but if it is anything like the other two I have it is a very well build product. The one thing that has me a bit concerned is the statement about the cables. The cable they shipped with the old ones were definitely not short, I use one in my bedroom and it is about 6' long. They used to ship a long charge only cable and a shorter data cable, maybe they stopped doing that.
@rmgill Just wanted to thank you again for the recommendation. I bought the cheaper version you linked to in the OP and it appears to be the same as the more expensive one you bought. Very nice dock and killer price. Unfortunately, they're out of stock or I'd pick up another one for my desk at work.
I have a Ringke slim case on it and it slides into the dock with just the right amount of tension. Doesn't feel flimsy or particularly cheap and the back supports it well enough that I don't worry about the microUSB port getting damaged. Definitely recommend it.

To «ORB» or not to «ORB», THAT is the question.

This is what it is stopping me from getting the Google ORB for my N4 >
I have a case (and if you don't, I commend you for your bravery). Not only I have a case, I have the Ballsitic Case, the sturdiest of them all, not intended to be taken off and on, on a blink, not at all.
And then I thought> the purpose for the orb is to avoid your self from the hassle of aligning the microUSB plug with the port and all, but if I have a case, what would be faster? To plug a cable to a phone with a case, or to incur on taking a case off in order to "avoid the hassle" of plugging.
It is more work for me to take the case off than it is to plug a micro USB cable, so no ORB for me...
Am I alone?
Imo, you don't need one. It's more of a luxury than anything. But if you like it aesthetically and have the extra dough, why not.

i have the extra dough, and still passed on it. it looks very cool but for me to be truely satisfied i need one for the office, and the house. not worth 140 to fit my want. cables work fine.
as most have said the orb isnt needed but im not gonna lie it looks cool as hell! im still undecided if im gonna drop the dough for it. I also need to confirm if the ringke fusion case will work with it too. so yeah, theres that....

I agree completely here. I would possibly consider a $40 charger but $70 is justification for the hassle of picking up a microUSB and plugging it in.
I have the Zens wireless charger and it works with the ringke slim case. I bought the Zens literally a week before the orb went up for sale. Ain't that a b*tch. I bought the orb anyway to have one at work and at home and to report back on a comparison.

wait until other people with the ballstic case have got the orb to confirm whether it works or not before deciding imo
Consider a dock instead. I'm happy with mine thus far. Less than half the price of a Qi charger, almost as convenient, but admittedly less futurist.
I am buying it because I had to replace my last galaxy nexus micro USB port because it went bad. I live in Florida and we have a lot of problems with corrosion. I cant tell you how many ports I've replaced over the years because of that I now have those silicon plugs on almost all my devices ports so I don't have that issue.

I'm not sure if the Qi charger works through your case but keep in mind Qi/wireless induction coil has nothing to do with the technology behind beam So you wouldn't know if one would work just based on the fact that the other technology did work.

It does not fit, but you can shave down soft plastic of the iBolt connector pretty easily with a x-acto/hobby knife. Or any sharp knife really. Took me 1-2 minutes to do. See my post with pictures here:

I'm a big fan of these

It mounts securely and it solid and it's easy to clip and unclip the phone one handed. Adjustment is also one handed via push buttons and you can rotate it to and from landscape without changing your adjustments. My S4 will be my third phone to occupy the mount.

I've tried all the better model of car docks and the Craigsdocks dock is by far the best, IMO.
http://www.craigsdocks.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-s4-note-ii-car-dock/
Charges, secure holding. Can put the phone in and remove it, all with one hand. No putting it in the dock and then plugging in the USB cable. Nope, this one is all done in one easy motion with just one hand.
A bit more $$, but it will work with any Samsung Galaxy phone. S2, S3, S4, Note II. So it's pretty much future proof as long as Samsung keeps putting the USB port on the bottom of the phone.
It also works with extended batteries and large cases. And billet aluminum. I just can't really say enough good things about this dock.

That's exactly what I was going to do, right flat on the base with industrial strength Velcro tape - don't use screws, just Velcro that thing right to it and it should work just fine that way, the CraigsDock has a very flat base on the back of it and would work great with the flat face of the ProClip vehicle mount! Just make sure to get all the screws set first, obviously, or else you'll have to peal back the one side of Velcro just to get to it. Use Velcro tape and not double-sided tape because then you can't work with it quickly or switch out components when you get a new phone as easily! PROTIP :good:
Has anyone here tried out a magnetic mount?
I really like the iOttie One Touch XL that I just got. It has a very strong suction cup and an easy one click lock/release mechanism.
I got it on a sale from Meritline.
I'd also tried another iOttie that's more compact. While the S4 fits it, it's near the end of the range so it's more of a two handed operation to put the phone in the holder. I much prefer the Easy One Touch linked above.
I've had an iottie. Works ok but with my galaxy s4 my phones has fell out a couple times. Worth the extra money for ibolt

Wireless Charging Phone Sleeve

Guys, I'm going to be launching a wireless charging phone sleeve on Kickstarter in January. The unique selling point will be the Smart app that communicates with the sleeve.
I'm doing research for the launch now to determine which phones to support. If you guys could just share your thoughts that'd be great.
Namely:
Will you as a Samsung Galaxy s5 user invest in a new phone sleeve
Why do you/ dont you use existing portable chargers like powerbanks and Qi chargers
If you know any cool portable wireless chargers
I myself use a Nexus 4 with Qi built in but I haven't found a satisfactory wireless charging solution yet... that's kinda why I worked on my own. Thanks!
Looks very interesting. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Like it, but will it work with the phone in a case?
Thanks guys! So i take it you will be theoretically willing to get a phone sleeve for the s5? Yes it will work with your existing cases because i'm choosing stretchable materials for ampere, except maybe otterboxes, and the case also has to work with Qi wireless charging. I think lots of cases will espc since we're using a bigger coil.

I use wireless charging and I own power banks. Powerbanks are mostly annoying because of keeping up with cords. But it would be nice to have a small flip put Micro USB and USB for charging and discharging to devices that don't have wireless charging (like my fiancees phone) . Also, I haven't bought a current qi bank because of the fact I can't throw my phone in my pocket and just let it charge. Your solution, depending on the price and size, seems to take care of those concerns for me. I would definitely consider buying it.

Yup, I personally have a Nexus 4 and was super-hyped to try wireless charging, only to find that most Qi products are absolutely rubbish beyond the novelty.
That's why I designed the sleeve to fix a lot of the heat dissipation, durability, looks, portability and alignment issues that plague Qi products. Please do leave your email on the website if you're interested! I'll contact you again just before launch in January.
make this a +1 for me also im IN .
If it will stretch to fit the Commuter Wallet, I'd think about dropping coin on it if the price is reasonable. My QI receiver works through the wallet case so that shouldn't be a problem. I personally find it much easier to carry a spare fully charged battery or two when the situation calls for it.

Ok good for that info! I've been using it too, and would say the same. Still, recommended not to slide your credit cards through ampere.

Guys, thanks for the product validation thus far. Now, I need your feedback on the optional app. Here are the proposed features:
I'm doing research for the launch now to determine what features to incorporate in this app:
Display estimated battery life in hrs of phone and ampere
Control when charging starts
find your phone or ampere when one is missing
notifications to recharge at time or location
What other features would you like to see? I've recently posted in the S5 and Nexus 5 forums too, and I've been told not to dilute the product, which I agree with heartily. These are the features I've narrowed it down to. What other things do you think we need to bake in? It will probably be open to developers post-Kickstarter.
Feel free to check the product out over at http://kickstarter.novelsys.co.
Hey guys! Just wanted to update everybody that we've got a teaser video now
let me know what you think before we launch on Kickstarter

I like it. I'll probably get one when you release it. I like the locator function as well. Does it have a wireless charging receiver also? (for charging the unit that is.)
I just went to amazon and bought the fonesalesman receiver and koolpad installed in 10 seconds and it works perfect. And I have one of the thickest phone cases from element case the recon pro.
I also bought a Qi charger for the car ...
After a week of using this I have put koolpad's in two other rooms in the house. It just works slick,
How would your sleeve work would I still be able to use any case I wanted ? This is a must, I must have the freedom to choose what case I want to use ?

Not any case I'm afraid. It should fit most soft cases and slim hard cases. It's really on a case by case basis. (see where I did there?) by Kickstarter, our testing will be more rigorously completed and I'll be able to say exactly to what thickness case Ampere can tolerate.

I'm afraid you'll have to charge Ampere via a MicroUSB. There's less benefit to charging Ampere wirelessly than your phone though.
So what do I need to fit on my phone to use this wirelessly?
