I haven't rooted mine yet and have 4.0.4 on it, so I'm itching to upgrade.
What do you guys think is the best ROM for the Tab 2 7"?
If you're looking to keep the IR, I'd recommend Tab2Lite. It's smooth, quick, and has blaster support, as it's based on Samsung's stock.
Yea, I'm looking to keep the IR blaster. Thx
Next question is, how the heck do I install this? Is there a step by step from root to ROM install?
You have to flash Cwm using ODIN, and then flash Tab2Lite. Thanks for giving my ROM a shot

That was easy for you to say. LOL. I was hoping for a step-by-step on rooting and installing ROM. A guide that would take the guesswork out of it would be cool. I wonder if anyone has a video on it..

Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032683 ,
they say that the france version can run the IR blaster.
My favorite ROM (after running several other roms) is the CM10. I haven't yet to try the new Cm10.1 nightlies but that is definitely on my agenda!

YES!! I totally agree but here's my beef.
no ir blaster support
as far as i am aware, no swappable extsdcard with sdcard
no remote controls (thats a samsung thing internally)
the keyboard is sh1t unless there is a samsung keyboard apk somewhere out there
perhaps someone can answer these issues?
also, do you have a link for the latest CM10 release for the gt-p3113?

For the lastest CM10.1 nightly (came out today ), here. For the lastest CM10 nightly, here.
The IR blaster isn't working on any ROM, besides the stock-based ROMs. Personally, the keyboards on all the ROMs that I've tried are great, and I'm sure I can find a "samsung keyboard apk" somewhere on the interweb. For the swappable extsdcard, use this. It works quite well with my P3113
of heyragov
CM 10.1 4.2.1 nightly.. the best
I love CM, but there's no way I'm loosing the IR functionality. Love that ****. That's why I'm sticking with stock-based ROMs.

this is a HUGE delema of mine as well. I want the ability to customize everything and tweak the rom to my heart's desire but I dont want that freedom to come at the expense of useful hardware that would be rendered useless. isnt there some 3rd party app or something else like driver packs or something that has been leaked from samsung that we can reload after the CM upgrades that will deal with the IR not working????

Unfortunately the IR blaster requires some Java framework to allow the apps to interface to it. No developer has stepped up to add this to non-Samsung ROMs. Someone might be able to get some ideas for this from the Sony IR remote SDK. It also might be possible to port some of the framework when Samsung releases a JB ROM for the p6210.
When I get time, I might look into doing the Java framework, but I don;t see that free time coming soon, so I too will be sticking with Stock base ROMs.
The stock keyboard on CM10 isn;t great, but I use SwiftKey 3 anyway and the CM10 launcher is pretty poor compared to Apex or Nova.

Hey guys,
I am new to all of this but managed to successfully flashed the superlite-5.1 rom to my Rogers Galaxy S2. Big thank you to mhx (I tried donating but your paypal wouldn't accept because in not in the US)
The Rom is working fine but there are a couple of features that it doesn't contain that interest me.
1. The camera app - Is it possible to have the same camera that's available on the stock ICS (with the live video effects...)
2. Can I flash romracers kernal with this rom? I only want to do this for bln support. Is there another way I can get bln?
Sorry if my question sounds dumb, I have spent the last couple days reading through the forum trying to educate myself with the android dev.
Thank's for all your help

No not until we get kernel source, no bln
AOSP camera is available, check the aosp apps thread, and as xcrazy said, no bln til we get source. And yes u can of course use romracer kernel with mhx, i thought that was the default one anyway. If its not mhx is using mohan_kr's, which for your purposes is identical, no real point in switching

pretty sure he is talking about romracers gb kernel, which would not work with ics.
romracers unsecure ics kernel is fine to flash, but if hes using superlite, he is already using that kernel.

If you just Google "Project Butter", you'll find a ton of links about it. They will prob do a better job explaining than I will but I can try.
From what I understand, project butter was one of the major changes Google made from ics to jb. It is meant to make the phone quicker and more responsive by making some tweaks to GPU rendering I think and some other things. The team that released Cm10 for the infuse tried to include the code but it caused stability issues on our phone. It did make the phone seem "snappier" but it would randomly freeze so they had to remove the code.
I'm sure there is a lot better information to b found on the web.

I just tried to flash it a couple times but couldn't get past the Samsung Logo. I tried once straight from CM10 and then once after first flashing an ics rom to get blue ics recovery.
Could just b user error but I used the same method as I always do. Full wipes then install. Maybe it was a bad download. I didn't do a MD5 check.

Just food for thought... CM10 is still in the early development stages.. Its probably a bad idea to start "porting" other ROMs since the actual files that are MEANT for our phone are still being worked on. For project butter, it involves updating the PVR drivers. JT had ported the code over from the crespo kernel to update the PVR drivers, but something seemed to conflict with it as it had random freeze ups. The reason this hasnt been fixed yet, is it is a HUGE change.. Literally hundreds of lines of kernel codes are changed/removed/added so its not a simply thing to pinpoint. Entropy is taking a look this weekend as he found some things to be a mess.
Also, you might want to give some credit in your OP... ALOT of people including myself worked incredibly hard to bring CM10 to the infuse, so its the least you could do for using it as your base.
First off, congrats on getting the port to work, but I have to agree with pretty much everything Scott said. Unfortunately what you mention trying to accomplish is going to take more than just zipping a few files over the top of an existing ROM.
As a good rule of thumb it is always advisable to get permission from the original source if you are going to use it in your build, and from the sounds of Scott's post this hasn't happened. We all like new things and all are trying to improve or phone experience, but it is important to be respectful of the time and effort of those that have come before.
Food for thought as you continue your endeavors and best of luck to you.

To use ICS roms you have to upgrade to ICS first.
As for roms, it's all personal opinion what is best. If HDMI/lapdock support isn't essential for you, I would recommend CM10.

Uhh..no CM10 is actually really stable. There are a couple really minor bugs left.. but it's Jelly Bean so it's smooth as butter (project butter) and is well worth the tiny bugs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869692
yeah, cm10 is very stable.. no random reboots or anything for me.. sure it has a few bugs, but nothing to stop you from using it as your daily driver. Actually what keeps making me go back to cm10 is that its so friggin smooth and ofcourse the little customisations you can do and themes..
For the OP, I dunno much about the GB roms, but id recommend both cm10 and and magicmod with performance and customisations in mind and that they are JB based
If you want full functionality, then all the ICS roms are good, just read thru the threads for the ROMs and devs description and screenshots and try the one according to need.. the latest one is numa and the first one is SCV7 which still is one of the best roms for our phone on ICS. If you ask me, you'll know which one to use only after youve flashed enough
Also remember to read the devs description of the ROM and how to flash properly, cause you need to use different recoveries for different ROMs. So better if you read up as much as you can. Do keep a backup of your stock ICS on ur sdcard, (i have like 3 now stock, cm10, numa) but you know how it goes, since youre already on a ROM..
Mostly youre gonna love your phone more after you get on ICS and flash one of the ICS and JB roms. Happy flashing !
EDIT: i missed it, but better if you post questions in the Q&A thread..
Thanks for the reply. I'll try CM10.
When installing ICS, will all I need to do is install .zip Blur_Version.55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.zip? for ICS leak#1 or will I have to downgrade first?

Hey Guys, I have a GS4 so please don't hate because I am asking questions and not trying for myself.
So my friend has a Blaze and he is looking to root his phone and flash a custom ROM. He is a borderline Android / Apple fan and I am trying to convince him to stick to Android.
So once I get him rooted I will be looking for a ROM/Kernel combo.. He needs everything to be working... Camera and everything else.
AOSP would be nice but from the ROM pages it looks like some of them have issues were he would flip out.
What is your best opinions on ROM/KERNEL combos to get his Blaze running smoother then stock without compromise?
Thanks!

Not trying to be rude, but you want to steer him away from an iPhone with a budget android phone that's 40% of the cost? If you really want him to like/love android and keep him away from the 'evil' fruit that grows on trees, he should spend the same amount of money on the phone and get a GS4 or One.
That statement aside, since you are 'stuck' with the Blaze (not necessarily a bad thing) you should go for this rom as it has the storage swap so there isn't any app/camera storage/other storage issues to run into. It's very stable and I ran it for about 3 weeks. Kernel is included.
Yeah you are 100% right.. he is stuck in a contract till November.
Thanks for the suggestion.
The most stable roms I have run are Beastmode's slim bean, and the latest cm10 nightly. Both on blue lightning kernel x2.
I've run both ParanoidAndroid and Liquidsmooth both with LightningZap 3.7 (though there was some inner folder work that had to be done) and both have been extremely stable for me. I also use Adrenalin injection and NOS_INJECTOR and my Blaze flys!

I'm using Stock 4.1.2 and except 5ghz wifi isn't working am pretty happy with it.
Do the later custom roms add enough performance enhancements to warrant the effort? For me the 'proper' dpi and tablet layout of stock is highly preferred so any other layout is really not desired.
Thanks.

84 views and not one reply......wow that would seem to suggest not a lot of difference.
Try it and see for yourself. +1 for sky high 4.1.2. It all depends what you want, I need hdmi out so Sammy Rom for me.
Good luck.

I realise I can try it but as posted in the original question there's no point trying it if there's not a lot of difference.....and at the moment there seems little, if any, beneficial difference.

Wow. I had good reasons to move away from the stock ROM back when I did it. But that was so long ago, I can't remember what they were specifically. I think a lot of people are in that same boat, which is why you aren't getting any responses here.
I would say that if you're happy with the stock ROM, then stick with it! The easiest upgrade you can do is to install an aftermarket launcher, like NovaLauncher or GoLauncher. You'll get a ton of features that will allow you to customize your home screen layout without having to mess with rooting and flashing ROMs and recoveries.

I've installed skyhigh rom. It changend p6800 from tablet to a big phablet. And it's still 4.1.2, so why should i prefer skyhigh to stock rom!
