I saw another thread about unlocked phone got locked..plz dont lock mine cuz registering and loging in is extremely hard to [email protected][email protected] im looking for help sincerely instead of what kinda donation..
I got a Verizon razr hd from a blackmarket online last month (let me explain it. Its impossible to get a razr hd from a official way cuz moto cut its Asian service(im in PRC). Only some cheap moto entry-level or old-fashioned Android devices can be got from official store. Samsung Galaxy S3 is much more reachable cuz Samsung has its official store in my city but im not addicted to its design..also i kept using moto device from a moto beeper about 20 years ago so i dont wanna change another brand) i always go around here but i cannot register an account cuz verification imagine cannot show up correctly due to damned GFW. Finally an US friend of mine helped me to register successfully..
Thats enough for background i think.
Whatever, i got a really strange phone. Its a Verizon razr hd and its unlocked... i dont care about that but the original rom of it is JB 4.11not ICS 4.04. Even this JB is different from your JB from OTA recently.(i cannot get OTA. It shows me that my rom is the latest) So i cannot get it rooted by the method you provided(keep root from ICS).
I have checked iemi code and whatever i can check of this phone the moment i got it ,so i dont think its a fake one but a smuggling one .
So the problem is..can i use rsd to flash a original Verizon 4.04 rom to my phone and root it then keep it and update to Verizon JB 4.1 in order to get root?
Im poor in English gramma so im not sure whether you guys get it..
Here are two shots of it, i cannot post URL and pics yet so plz delete the spaces in the URL

First, to root it, you have to flash the rom to ICS 4.04, then root, root keeper, and follow that process. THEN OTA to JB 4.1 and finish the process. This is well documented in other portions of the forum.
And the other thing, isn't this against terms discussing/questioning this kind of phone???
Thanks for your response. Rsd cannot identify my fastboot while im trying to do so. Maybe its version is too out of date.
Err..if it does go against principle here plz lock /delete it

Hi folks, Im an atrix owner in uk on the orange network. Ive been waiting for this GB update but decided to go along the unlocking route. I have rooted using gingerbreak, and have just unlocked the bootloader using RSD lite and IHOP Bell. The phone itself displays unlocked on the boot screen, so all seems well. But now Im stuck with only 300mb of ram. I have seen that its possible to load ORFR234-system.img so that I can enjoy the GB goodness. Ive downloaded the ORFR234 but the question is How do I get it on to my phone? The worst thing is that I managed to lose the guide that I was following, grrr. If there's anyone out there in XDA land who can help me, I would be sooooooo grateful and buy ya a beer lol. Many thanks
I'm currently with the Galaxy S3, but been having signal issues and had my phone replaced 5 times so far...The CR asked if i wanted another phone and i told her that I didnt see one that i liked so far, so she said i could wait until the Droid Razr HD comes out,due to motorola having better radios...I just have to ask a couple of questions that I dont know
1. Can the bootloader be unlocked?
2. If the bootloader cant be unlocked can you still run custom roms?
3. Was there a lot of devs on the previously Razr/maxx?
nevermind delete question.. I have the answer to what I'm looking for
I currently have an LG Viper Running on Official LG 4.0.4 ICS package and i'm rooted. I'm looking at ROM Manager right now and there seems to be no CWM Recovery for my phone. This spurs two questions in my mind:
1. Is it safe to flash a CWM built for a different phone but same make?
-The options i'm given made by LG are: LG Connect 4g MS840, LG Lucid VS840, LGE Esteem 4g, LGE Optimus M+, LGE Revolution 4g, LGE Spectrum 4g
2. If not, is there a workable CWM for the phone? If there isn't, can I expect one anytime soon?
Simple answer is no unless someone decides to port it.

I know this is an old thread but flashing any sister device recovery will bootloop the viper. We do finally have custom recovery abs basic roms if you downgrade back to gingerbread...but as of now ics dev is on halt, major locked boot loader. I already had my viper replaced six times and had terrible customer service experiences , so I found a number for a sprint corporate executive, mailed me a Samsung galaxy nexus 4g lte the next day. I'm pleased, although it's a year old phone, none of these issues, bigger screen, much better resolution, 32 gig internal sd, :/ 4.1.2 vanilla, and more mods roms and kernels then I can try :/. A lot of us purchased this viper based on specs, which seem great, unfortunately the phone isn't...

Hi how are u all, iwant to buy Motorola XOOM MZ601 but iread in gsm arena that it's not upgradable to JB 4.2 so i want your advise is this aproblem?if yes is there a solution
many thanks and wating your reply
Yes you're right, but if you want to try you can use team eos 4 custom rom... there are the nightlies version but it still full of bugs, and the thread isn't created yet maybe teameos still working on it. You can use the team eos 3 jelly bean 4.1 (stable)
Edit: some words mistake

sorry i dont understand what u mean by this expression because i am beginner in android in details
I am from Egypt and there is a sale from Vodafone on Motorola XOOM MZ601 2100 L.E (340$) from 4000 L.E (640$) so it's atgreate sale so i want 1-your advise to buy or not ?
2-if i buy is there a good support ?
3-can i upgrade system by a non-official new version like 4.2 or above easily?and how? and with simple explain
4-how can i know that device refurbished or not?
5-tools that been used and its function?
6-critical things that is may kill the device during upgrade and how to know proper firm ware?
there no answer? iam waiting your help
Sorry I just give you wrong answer, but you can go to development thread.. in my country there's a forum that explain how to root and how if the device bricked, or another what are you asking. I'm from indonesia.

If you can buy a newer one then go for that... 4.2 you can run but getting 3G is not something we can promise. I myself have MZ601 and I am using a custom ROM that is meant for MZ604 and hence I do not have 3G.
There will be no further development for this, so you might as well look for newer tabs if you want latest build, else you can definitely buy one

few things
1 - xoom is 2 years old, and will no longer receive official updates. all updates from now on will be through custom roms brought to us by wonderful developers like Team EOS and Team Rogue.
2 - there is still good support, just check out this forum. lots of stickies on what you need to know. use the search function and you should find everything you need.
3 - yes. my current xoom mz601 is running 4.2.1 thanks to the developers mentioned above. since it is from the US and currently i am also in egypt, i have to 3g service, so i just flash the wifi only roms. Search the forums, there are plenty of guides on rooting and flashing custom roms.
The Motorola Xoom is bound to receive it's final update in Jellybean 4.1 or 4.2 beyond that it's doubtful that Motorola will update. Unless they are not releasing another table this year.
you can check here: https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
US xooms will get 4.1 and thats it.
Yup. I read bout it yesterday. It seemed to slip under my radar. Guess it's time to unlock and root to get updates. That's the beauty of android. Always an alternative.
I have motorola Razr Maxx HD... recently I updated system to 9.18.79. However, today i saw cyanogenmod 10.2 version roll out and I really want to try 4.3 version since I have been stuck on 4.1 for almost a year. Unfortunately, when I try using motopocalypse to unlock bootloader, it keeps failing. Than I was thinking maybe I can downgrading back to the old version than unlock bootloader but on the website it says DO NOT USE THIS UTILITY ON THE LATEST 4.1.2 OTA UPDATE. I guess 9.18.79 is the newest OTA version. Therefore, I was wondering if there is anyway that i can unlock bootloader under 9.18.79 or downgrade whole system to lower version. So I can install cyanogenmod 10.2
Thank you
You're out of luck, sorry. There's no way to unlock after taking the newest OTA.
I believe that the correct answers to your questions about your recently updated Razr Maxx HD are -- NO, at this time there is no way to unlock the bootloader if you've installed the 9.18.79 update, YES, you can still root your phone. YES, you can downgrade your phone to 9.16.6 (but you still won't be able to unlock your bootloader after doing so). I have a Maxx HD with exactly this set of circumstances. The phone was running 9.18.79 when I got it. After having no luck unlocking the bootloader (as expected) I was able to root it using a method I found in this forum, then installed SafeStrap, then installed a couple of older stock kernel-based custom ROMs. It's certainly not as good as before the update but I'm rooted, all my apps run and I'm rid of all the Verizon bloatware. Not perfect but not bad.

Well that's why you never take updates without knowing for sure you can still use tools. Lesson learned.

I'm in the same boat, I have one question. Does anyone use the Motorola way to unlock bootloader? I found the website to unlock, wondered why that isn't an option.
It's for developer editions only.

Thanks for answering these questions. Who and how close are they to unlocking it? Do you see it happening soon?

I don't think anyone is working on this. The guy who came up with the exploit to unlock the bootloader in the first place said immediately after releasing it that he isn't touching Motorola devices' bootloaders anymore because they have become so difficult to crack. The update in the 9.16 OTA patched a pretty big security hole in the basic Android framework. That was a good thing because it prevents thieves from hacking your phone (hopefully) but it also took away a lot of our "freedom" with these devices, unfortunately.
Basically the process of finding a way to unlock the bootloaders is extremely difficult and not a rewarding enough venture for anyone to bother with right now. Don't hold your breath for a bootloader unlock anytime soon (likely never). If you've updated to 9.16 (I'm with you here, after replacing a bootloader unlocked, rooted and running CM10.1 phone with a cracked screen through insurance and receiving a replacement with an un-unlockable bootloader out of the box) kiss your ROMing dreams goodbye. The best you can do with the phone now is root it, install SafeStrap and run ROMs based off the stock kernel.
My advice to any and all willing to listen:
Get away from Verizon as fast as you can. They are making sure their phones release now-a-days with un-unlockable bootloaders. The upcoming Droid Ultra, Maxx, and Mini as well as the Moto X will all be locked down with no hope of unlocking their bootloaders on Verizon. The ATT Moto X will also not have an unlockable bootloader.
The best carrier for devs and flash hounds will be T-Mobile from here on out as they are marketing to people with their own devices and not locking down the software the way the big V is.
This really sucks because my favorite thing about my Razr HD Maxx is the battery, and the only thing close to or better as far as battery size/life coming out is the new Droid Maxx. With out being abkle to install a custom ROM, though I feel like I'm using an iPhone. But a good alternative may be an S4 on T-Mobs with an extended battery (thanks to Samsungs removable batteries) or charging case or something like that.
You are a wealth of information, thank you!
Would I be able to install any rom with safestrap? and then I would just be stuck with current kernal? Or does the rom have to be special in some way? I want to get the CyanogenMod 10.3 version. Thoughts? If I can't, what would be the best option as far as stock kernal rom?

None of the new roms only roms based on stock. Your gonna have to dig to roms started before April.

I unfortunately upgraded to 9.18.79 a while back and now that i'd like to unlock the bootloader, I can't.
However, I do have best buy insurance, assuming my screen is broken, I can get the device replaced with a refurbished unit. What are the odds the refurbished unit has not been updated to a version that cannot be unlocked?
thanks

The odds are getting slimmer and slimmer as the days go on, but I have still seen a few people get replacements that have not been updated.
