[Q] samsung galaxy s3 not updating - General Questions and Answers

hello people ,
well, my problem is about updates, i tried to update a samsung galaxy s3 today via OTA and it did not work.. when the device was first switched on , it gave a notification that there indeed was a software update. when i go to about phone and then hit update, it connects to the server and then says that there are no updates available .. i am 100% sure there is an update cause it says that the current version is 4.0.4 .. by now the jelly bean update has already been released for s3.
i tried kies air.. and it told me that i have the latest firmware ive seen people update using odin but i don't really want to go that way. all i want to know is !WHY? and i think it has happened with other s3's too like my friends...
also is there any other way i can update? i am missing anything that i need pointing out?
thanks a bunch!

[Q] Kies just updated, I think it wanted to do an upgrade

Did my daily Kies backup of my outlook data. When I ran Kies it told me that there was an update, that's nothing new, so I allowed the update.
Once I re-ran Kies, instead of listing the current ROM and my ROM on the first page, it said in BOLD letters that "YOUR DEVICE DOES NOT SUPPORT SOFTWARE UPDATE VIA KIES".
Was it trying to do an update to something, or was it just telling me that since I'm non-stock, rooted and CWM, that it can't do an update.
Harry
Yeah, that was your one shot at getting the ICS update and now you have to wait until Summer to get it again.
ok j/k
I can't help w/kies questions but a top will not hurt.
Very funny.
I got the same Kies update. With mini Kies, that was sometimes associated with a phone update. My phone is stock but after the Kies update, no phone update was available. You didn't miss anything.

[Q] DOWNGRADE GT P3113 from JB (OTA) to ICS

I made a mistake..................:crying:
I let one of my tablets (Galaxy Tab2 7.0 P3113) Wi-Fi only do a upgrade to JB from ICS.
Well...............I HATE JB ok, it's way too funky and does not seem to work right (Swype 1.4 keeps popping up saying Not working or something BUT it still works).
Google search for me (IMHO) sucks on JB (with the Samsung UI overlay of course).
So I have been looking, I called Samsung, they said they would re-do my tablet with a 7-10 day turn around to downgrade it (free I guess) if I ship my tablet to them.
OK BUT I would like to see if there is a STOCK Samsung image of ICS rom from the GT P3113 Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 out there that I could get.
I hope I am getting the correct one now but not sure.
Is there a way to just flash the firmware rom from a sd card? The tablet is NOT rooted.
If anyone can help me I app it.

You should be able to flash these with odin.
Edit: but be sure to backup your stuff first as this will factory wipe your tab.

You can flash the firmware yourself using Odin, but this will void your warranty.
Unless if you give it to samsung.

[Q] JB Update (OTA) fails / Kies update not supported !

Guys,
Incredible thing has happened, my GT 7.7 told me today: you have new firmware available to download !! First time in its freakin' life it told me that OTA update is available. What's more - it's JB - when almost everybody lost their hope to see it on 7.7.
My happiness didn't last long. OTA upgrade downloaded and after reboot - showed Android system update icon ... for 10 sec. Then it rebooted again. When system boot up - i found no change to 7.7 FW. When i tried to force another attempt to update - i got error message telling me "Update has failed... bla bla bla. Try using Kies".
OK - let it be. I started Kies. Installed update it prompted me and ... found message "Your device’s current firmware version is not supported via Kies". Great !!
My 7.7 is rooted (4.0.4), de-bloated (a lot of junk is gone (including stuff like Samsung Account and other Samsung bloatware).
Now question: If I flash new FW via Odin - will this flash clear my whole 7.7 or my existing apps and data will remain intact?
I think data/aps should "survive" Odin flashing (I don't remember what i did when i upgraded to ICS but i think I flashed with Odin and everything survived).
Another thing - do you think ti's better to wait for Kies upgrade that will support my 7.7 FW upgrade or heat up Odin and forceburn JB into it.
Thanks for advice (in advance).
kies wont upgrade root device with custom recovery... so i say go odin way...

need help installing update on Galaxy Tab 7.7 SCH-i815

Hi all, I need some help with this. I have the Galaxy tab 7.7 SCH-i815. It's not unlocked or anything, because I'm not sure how to do this.
Anyway, for the longest time now I'm getting a notification prompting me to update the software, but when I try to do this, it will say that it was unsuccessful. The current Android version is 4.0.4. See the attached photo for details.
How can I get it to install the update? It's driving me nuts!
The same thing happened to me. LP11 (the new update for the i815) is not better than LP10 (the one you have now)
So just ignore it, you dont need the update, they are both android 4.0.4 and LP11 has worse battery life.
But if you really want to get it, you need to reflash the stock 3e recovery.

[Q] N8010 4.0.4 / How to disable firmware update? It's driving me insane..

Updated to JB back in January and since then I was very disappointed with decreased performance and lag.. even factory reset did not help...
So I have made decision to flash back to ICS 4.0.4.. Everything went fine and my Note is like new The only problem is that it auto downloaded JB update again and it's nagging me every couple of hours to upgrade (which I obviously don't want to do).
ICS doesn't seem to have option in settings to disable updates.. Or at least I am not able to find it...
Could somebody hint me how can I delete downloaded JB firmware update and stop Note from downloading it again?
Thanks
DrLamok
ps: I was trying to find similar topic here on the forum but failed to find solution.

I don't know if this will work but if you just root your tab, samsung update will see it's modified and you never get updates again.
If you later wanna do updates just use odin.
Hope that helps...
