[Q] Video streaming over Wi-Fi - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Is there any device that let me stream Video or Mirroring over Wi-Fi from my TF101 like Allshare Cast Dongle from samsung? Some similiar device?

I'm not sure of your question exactly... Are you looking to receive video from another device (like Sling) or are you looking to send to another device (like a DLNA source or like AirPlay on Apple devices)?

Maybe you should use EMIT. It streams to the tablet quite nicely but not sure about projecting on HDMI.

[Q] hdmi

is there any way we can do hdmi at all, this dlna thing does not seem to be catching on and it seems rather bulky. it will not play any of my windows media files?
DLNA not catching on? Like every new TV I see has it, almost all bluray players have it, the PS3 and Xbox has it, and every single computer is capable of it. Pretty sure it has caught on pretty well.
But no, there is no HDMI solution right now.
I'm not a huge fan of DLNA myself because it's not useful for older HDTV's, and it's a lot more cumbersome to setup than plugging in a cable and pressing play. I thought we were supposed to get HDMI out via the USB port, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Well I wasnt expecting a rude answer but yes its not catching on , they may have it but it is bulky and cumbersom to use , the standard is not quite standard yet. some companys call it allshare, (samsung) some call it DLNA and the operation of it is not the same on everyone of them.
plus they may have it but not everyone has the money to do out and buy a new system just to support DLNA.
Wasn't meaning to be rude, its just what you said made no sense. Allshare is just a program that uses DLNA. DLNA is the standard. Every computer supports DLNA, most bluray players and many if not most new TV's support it. Also, the Xbox360 and PS3.
The only company that changed the standard to only work with their devices is Apple, who is promoting their airplay nonsense.
You can use ANY of these apps to play to a DLNA device:

I thought it made perfect sense, and yes I know its the standard , but not everyones "program" is the same? but thats neither here nor there the question was simple was there a way for HDMI to work with maybe the micro usb. you answered it , although in a way I wouldnt have, but you answered it.

I have the same problem - My Panasonic TV (TC42PC24) works fine with other HDMI devices but not the transformer (running android 3.2.2). The Transformer also works ok with my other TV's.
I called Asus and they are not aware of this problem - but recorded it and said they would look into it. If you are having the same problem - suggest you call them to report it as well (don't use their email - I tried - and the robo-response is useless).
From the U.S. you can reach Asus at 888-768-3688 - let them know if you have the problem - the more people that report it the better!
I have a panasonic plasma TV 42" (not sure about the model, I'll see that later) and the HDMI cable for the tablet, tomorrow I can test, right now I'm too lazy to get out of my bed.

Why would you think its a problem with the tablet if it works with other tv's? It sounds like a panasonic problem.
Got the same problem using it with my mates Panasonic TH-P50ST30A. A quick scan of the threads in the Transformer developers forum seems to suggest that there may be a fix imbedded in a clemsys kernel....
yep, it's not working
My TV it's a plasma Panasonic P42S10B 42".
If I plug on my desktop monitor (LG W2353V) it works.
Sounds like a Panasonic problem, I have another TV here (an old LG something 23") that my Xbox 360 and PS3 don't work over HDMI, not that I care since I hook them on the Panasonic, but it's kinda annoying know that I have some displays that have HDMI input and doesn't work properly.
My Panny Plasma works just fine with both my Transformer & Evo 4G.
My plasma is a bit older though... TH-42PX75U
I had a problem with that after I bought the cable and didn't work but luckily I found a adapter made by monster cables that goes from the table small HDMI to a regular HDMI cable and it works on all a bunch of TV's without and problems

So it seems that different cables do make a difference... Asus mentioned to me when i asked them that they were also releasing a hdmi cable...this was months ago and still cant see anything on their website.
My gf has a Panasonic flatscreen hdtv and Netflix works fine, I can do everything EXCEPT watch Google movies over hdmi... Its just black with sound. I tried Clemsyns kernel but if didn't help.
any update on this?
I have the same issue... 52" plasma, Panasonic, & Asus Transformer.
Bought the hdmi cable from micro center...
Can anyone confirm if a patch has been released or if trying a specific hdmi cable works?
Real annoying. Only tried on Samsung 32" LCD and worked. Everything else works fine with my Panasonic via hdmi.
Thanks.
I have a 50 inch pan plasma and i have no issues. I did buy a higher end HDMI cord. I can watch movies or internet videos.
The one problem I did have was when I used a HDMI spliter, the tablet wouldn't work. Had to plug directly into TV
Use this kernel can fix the HDMI to Panasonic Plasma TV problem.

[Q] noob note 10.1 screen mirroring question

HI
I recently got a galaxy note 10.1 wifi model and wanted to mirror the screen on my lg smart tv. I understand that both these devices are capable of mirroring but they don't seem to play nice together I contacted samsung customer support and they said look for a 3rd party app that might do it.
I have been doing exactly that since but all i can seem to find are apps that allow file sharing not live mirroring of the note 10.1's screen onto the tv. I understand that samsung have some sort of dongle that might allow it to work but i would prefer not to fork out another $100 for something that seems like it should just work without it. I would prefer to simply use an app that would allow me to connect it via the wifi. Does anyone know of such an app?
Thanks
Allshare Cast dongle or hub is the only way to mirror afaik. I think some newer Samsung tv's might have Allshare built in but not sure about other brands.
Dongle:
samsung.com/se/consumer/mobil/mobil/mobiltillbehor/EAD-T10EDEGSTD?subsubtype=multimedia-and-general
Damn was hoping not to have to buy one of those. I thought with Alshare, dlna and WiFi direct a least one option would just do it. The tv has all those options except allshare it has LG smartshare I believe instead.
Is the Samsung dongle the only one that will work Belkin and HTC make one as well don't they?
I got samsung smart tv with all share cast too, and looking same as you for a way to mirror my screen to it through wifi... its not possible only images and video no screen mirror.
So I guess the the dongle is a must....

Unfortunately Sammy TVs right now do have ONLY AllShare PLAY not AllShare CAST !
Hope AllShare CAST will be added with the Smart Evolution Kit for Sammy TV by March 2013 though.
Right now no mirroring w/o Dongle ..........
One more question about screen mirroring and the need for allshare cast dongle. What exactly does the dongle do that can, t be done with an app? As I understand it with what little knowledge I have is that allshare is based on miracast and so is the dongle, LG's smartshare is based on the same they just both have their own skins overlaid onto miscast technology so you have to go out and spend more money on their hardware to make everything work? What I am wondering is why can't a general app be made that just does the screen mirroring o onto tv's if Both devices are miracast capable, dlna capable and wifidirect capable surely one of these options should allow screen mirroring on a tv without the need for a dongle That costs another $100 or so to purchase on top of the tablet just to get this function. I hope this all makes sense, if someone could explain all this so the dummies like me could understand it that would be awesome. Oh and there seems to be many options for screen mirroring with your pc why is this different?
Thanks

The only way i know of, if you have a capable android phone that you already have hdmi connection to tv, is to use mirrorop sender/reciver app, two apps, one on the note one on the phone, allows you to mirror one android to another vice versa. Ive not managed to get a working mhl/hdmi for my s3, so i dont know if there is a limitation to then hook up the phone via hdmi to tv, wouldnt mind a confirmation on that one my self
Pro
Ive mirrored my note to my s3, anything static it does ok, pics, browsr, pdf, slow/static games
5 minute trial, restart app to reset
Cons
Doesnt transmit sound [i guess the dongle trumps that]
Fast paced games have lag, specifically game controls
Picture quality options at the sake of speed
5 minute trial, restart app to reset

Ive heard of raspber pi project on this, but last time i checked it was for a nexus line and you needed custom firmware

Yeah I looked into Mirrorop but seen as I only want to mirror my galaxy note 10.1 onto a tv it's of no use to me. Funny thing is, is that the LG smart tv I have used to come with a mirror op receiver app p re installed but for some reason it was removed from the model in all countries except China. Sounds like money grabbing on LG's part if you ask me.

One suggestion if you decide to grab the Sammy dongle: register your note on the Samsung web page and you'll get a $50 coupon for the Samsung store. That's how I got mine. Cutting the price in half makes it a little easier to swallow and it does work well certainly glad I got mine.

That sounds alright just one thing is that valid for Australian customers? Also does anyone no which Aussie stores stock them? I went onto Samsung's au website and it seems to be greyed out so I don't no were they are stocked .

I've a further related noob question. I have owned my Note 10.1 for 4 days now and have found it great, but I would love to be able to mirror it's display. I actually want to project it (I'm a teacher), but have found a workaround with an iPad where I mirror the iPad to my laptop and display the laptop as normal. Is anything like this possible with the Note?

Hi, I am a teacher as well and am using the Note 10.1 in my classrooms.
I use the Allshare Cast dongle, connected to a HDMI-VGA converter, to the projector. Don't use the converters that don't have a separate power supply; the display will cut in and out because the dongle cannot supply enough current.
Alternatively, you can try using the Netgear push2tv device. The recent beta update enables compatibility with Allshare devices.
If you have rooted your Note 10.1, you need to triangle away to clear the flash counter.

Thanks for your reply. Do you happen to know if there are more than model of Allshare Cast? Prices seem very variable - Amazon go from £30 to £107! I haven't rooted my Note - I'm not really sure what the benefit is - although I seem to have read that it may allow me to access my email through the school proxy, which I can't do at the moment. Can you recommend a HDMI-VGA converter that works?
Do you guys get sound when you conect using the mirror cast not using the dongle I get picture and no sound
I bought new Samsung TV series 6, and it have bulid in Screen Mirroring but in menu options on my Note 10'1 from 2012 i dont have this options.
There is some one hack or addons to my tablet to get this options?

Screen mirroring to TV or Roku?

Anyone know of a way to mirror the screen from the Maxx HD to a HDTV or Roku box? Something like the apple airplay equivalent. I just got a Roku box and have been playing around with it and I have used apps like Twonky Beam and Juice, which will beam content like music or pictures or video that's stored on the phone to the Roku. But I want to be able to stream anything that's on the screen, like play a concert from Concert Vault on the phone and stream it to the Roku.
Not sure anything like this is available.
Allot of new phones being released will have miracast. This is the technology standard you'll need for android. I'm guessing its a hardware thing so may not come to RAZR HD. ;( hope I'm wrong.

As far as I know Roku still doesn't support dlna, so I don't think you can beam to your TV via the Roku. There is a Plex channel but I think it only streams from a pc on your local network.

It looks like Doubletwist for android has airplay support, would work with Apple TV. Have to decide if it's worth it to return my Roku and get an Apple TV. It looks like Concert Vault is no longer free anyways so that was the main reason I wanted it, to stream concert videos from Concert Vault to the TV.

This phone does have dual band WiFi so it's possible we could see Miracast support in a future update. At least, that's what I'm hoping for because DLNA is kind of a hassle, and really not supported at all by today's streaming apps like Netflix. Recent news says Netflix and YouTube are looking into another protocol called DIAL, which is really an interface where you pick the video, but the box connected to the TV does the streaming from the internet. I think that is the future for this kind of thing. Why should I have to stream it from my phone? Same for music services.
If you're streaming from your own personal collection, then DLNA and PlugPlayer work well if you have a DLNA server and a receiver like a PS3.

I thought Miracast had to be built into the chip, like Tegra 3. Not sure a firmware update would do it.

The only thing required for Miracast is WiFi Direct support (which most devices released in the past year or two have). Assuming we see a 4.2 update, which has Miracast mirroring baked in, all we would need are receivers to display the content (it seems not many exist at this point).

miracast (screen mirroring) and wifi at same time?

as per the title. can you still use yr wifi connection if you're using miracast on the s4? for example, be streaming a movie over wifi from a NAS drive at home from the s4, then onto the tv via a ptv3000 or some other such miracast dongle?

Is there a thread where people share experiences on the dongles in the market right now?
The PTV3000 seems to be the only reputable one available but I have read in multiple places that it has HDCP issues where you can't connect it behind an AV receiver. I want to know if there is any other options...
Inbuilt compatibility is nice but I want a dongle that I can carry while traveling...

my ptv3000 and lg bluray player BP730 both work fine for miracast. if having it plugged in behind an av receiver is causing issues then just use a short cable to bring it to the front or top of the device. i have mentioned the same on my video review on youtube a while back. i have reveiewed both the devices i mention.
