Blank Images in Pictures App - Any ideas? - Microsoft Surface

Hi guys, I picked up my Surface RT earlier this week and so far very pleased with the tablet and its general performance. I had imported some pictures from my microSD. I deleted the pictures yet they are still appearing as blank black boxes in the app!
When i try to delete them it says it cannot deleted them and to please make sure they are not being used by another application or that I have permission to delete them. After searching for ages i found out that I may have to reindex the libraries, but i do know what this means or how to do this. Would really appreciate any advice or feedback on how to clear these blank images from the pictures app.
Thanks in Advance
Ali

How To stop sync from pc?

Hello everyone. I'm coming from the Infinity forums here at XDA. I jumped ship on that thing. Loving this Sammy Tab. Does anyone know how to stop or remove the tab from grabbing photos from my computer? As soon as I hit the gallery Icon it grabbed my pics. Am on Windows 7 ultimate. So I went to my media player and disabled share with other devices but alas it still finds the pictures. Then when I go to the folder to delete it/them all I get is a select file/folder option or download option. No delete option. So how do I stop and remove this folder? Thanks. Sorry if there is a thread for this already. I searched but couldn't find anything. Maybe I didn't write it out right in the search:silly:
Anyway, Thanks in advance

The Note is finding pictures that you windows pc is sharing to your network. It allows you to view them but isn't downloading them unless you hit the download button.
You can remove the network items from the view this way: Menu (from main gallery view not from withing the "folder" of pictures you want to remove) -> View By -> Content in device

There's only one problem with this method -- it doesn't stop it permanently. Every time you re-load the gallery app, it re-appears. I find it totally annoying, honestly, and wish there was a permanent way to turn it off. I leave media sharing on my Win7 PC turned on because I use apps that allow me to browse shared media for streaming/etc. I want to be able to see those photos when I want them, but not all the time, and certainly not every time I load up the gallery app.
If the app permitted you to browse network-shared media when YOU want, and could sort it in a useful way (folders, maybe?) ... then the feature would be useful. Otherwise, for me, the hundreds and hundreds of raw digital photos being cataloged each time I load the app is just plain obnoxious.
Thankfully, thus far, this is only one of a very very few annoyances with the Note 10.1! And there's always one solution -- use a different picture/media viewing app .
Nice. Thanks guys. quickpic here I come

[Q] Anyone understand the photos app algorithm?

There are a dozen or so photos stored on my N5. Two of them never show up in the "Photos" app "All" tab (which is where photos always starts up). What the heck is the algorithm it is using to decide which photos to show in "All". I'm not connected to G+, I don't have the photos backed up on drive or G+, they are all of them only on the Nexus 5 local storage (in fact they are all in the same directory where the camera stored them when I took the pictures - none of them came from any source other than the native camera).
If I hit menu and pick "on device", it does show the two that are left out of "All" (which makes me wonder what on earth the word "All" means to google developers).
Can this be explained?
Yikes! It was more peculiar than I thought! I just saw a bunch of placeholder thumbnails in the all tab, which I thought was the normal background for free space, but after I scrolled down several screens, the two missing images were there after all, way the heck down under a slew of placeholders. When I finally tried to look at one of the placeholders, I got a "media not found error", so I just started deleting them, and eventually I finally got rid of all of them and the two missing images were now at the end of the list.
I have no idea what the heck they were. Apparently it thought there were a bunch of images that weren't there, but I have no idea how it got that idea .

Hello everyone,
Sorry for the wall of text, long time lurker, first time posting at XDA here, hope to find a solution after days of trying on my own... I am HEARTBROKEN by vscocam on Android... :crying:
I've been using VSCOCam for 80% of my photos on my Nexus5 for the last year and half, I've taken thousands of photos and I want to back them up. The app works as follows:
Take photo using app > photo stored in internal app library > edit photo > export to android photo library (VSCOcam folder)
The VSCOCam folder is located inside /sdcard/DCIM/, but it only stores the exported/edited photos that you chose to export from the app. I cannot for the life of me find the "internal library" folder for the photos, I looked and looked and had no luck finding where the photos or any hints of the app dir itself... only the exported photos. When I looked around online apparently the iOS version has a backup feature for the internal app library when connected to iTunes, Android version ONLY has the "export" button within the app to act as a backup feature. Well that's not going to work because:
1. No select all (ctrl/cmd + A)function. I will not spend hours check marking and scrolling through thousands of thumbnails individually... makes me shudder thinking about it.
2. I will essentially be saving my photos twice or more on the phone, VSCOcam doesn't overwrite existing or even ask, it creates duplicates next to eachother.
3. Exported photos from the app loses all metadata... this one I could afford to lose but it'd be nice to have a date it was taken and not date it was exported.
In my desperation I even chatted with the costumer service staff of the company, no luck, no solution. Only export button. Apparently my cases is very isolated as I can't find anyone with the same problem as I do.... maybe I'm not that bright. :silly:
Even with my limited IT skills, I firmly believe There has to be a folder that stores all the jpg as they're taken by the camera. Instagram does it and so does almost every photo apps out there. I just need to locate that dir... Am I looking in the wrong places? Do I need to root? Please give me some advice on this!!
TL;DR - VSCOCam app is holding thousands of my photos, I can't find the directory that they're stored in. VSCO is telling me "there is no internal app folder." and tell me to spend hours exporting each one manually. I don't want to hate VSCOCam, it rocks, but this is breaking my heart!!!

Oh wow thank you for this!!! I knew it!! :good:
I will try and root my phone tonight. I'll be following this guide.
So I guess after I root, I'm able to view the folders that were previously restricted using Android File Transfer?

i dont use android file transfer but you should be able to use es file explore to copy the photos to another folder that android file transfer can see
I'm rooted on android 5.1 and in ES File Explorer, cannot see com.vsco.cam in /data/data
I've searched for vsco, case insensitive, in root /
And only found the export directory!
Have they changed their storage? In effect, I can't even find the app!!
Bump!
I'm having the same problem. I really need to free up some space on my device, so I want to pull all my photos but I can't find them anywhere. LG Optimus 4X HD (P-880) with root access. I've checked the locations mentioned above, but with no luck. Any help would be awesome!
Up! I have the same problem than Falcon. I want to free some space but can't find the photos anywhere!
Bumping because I'd also like to extract photos that I've taken with VSCO. Although my problem is a little different, VSCO just crashes every time I try to open it and it only started happening the day after I started taking photos with it. The customer service couldn't help much except tell me that CM is an unofficial Android release and their app isn't optimized for it
OnePlus One
Android 6.0.1
CM13.0-20160419-SNAPSHOT-ZNH0EAO2O0-bacon
Has anybody found a descent solution for this problem?
Vsco is a great for the filters but the android-app is horrible. Why can't we just export the original photo's or at least locate them on our device.

Google helping window when copying text on tablet

Hi,
when I copied text on another android-tablet I once had, in the lower part of the screen there was a google-window opening up, the copied text was instantly pasted into there.
Also, after clicking on it, there were the search-result listed, but at the top of the screen also a box with google-translator results.
Please help, tell me how this whatever it is (chrome-extension etc.), is called and how I can retrieve or instal or even manage it in settings.
Many thanks for any hint or help in advance.
