have you change you theme..? coz I think few themes is not supporting the charging icon. BTW if your phone is switched off then the charging icon come..?? also, have you checked in ICS also??
Try booting into cwm and mounting USB storage.... if this mounts then at least we will know that your USB port is fine.... if this doesn't work then your charging port may be damaged and you may have to take your phone to the service center
Proudly supporting Adam for CM team recognition
In CM, LPM (Low Power Mode) doesn't work yet. It means it loads the whole system when you plug in the charger. init cannot distinguish the two modes yet, I'm working on it.
Actually the battery isn't charging at all... Today I tried many times to charge, but only sometimes it charges while most of the time it doesn't charge...
I removed battery and kept it out for 10 mind and again tried to charge but same problem.. Sometimes only it charges..
And @pankaj it's not about theme... I changed and saw it...
And my point being if connecting charger to my switched off device turns it on by detecting the charger, the charging circuitry won't be broken.. So it seems software issue or battery issue..
Also yesterday I turned on purging of assets and kernel memory management on and also enabled zRAM to 18%..would that create such. Issue??

Charging issues on ICS
I am on BB ROM with Ardatdat 4.0 Kernel. For last few I am also facing some strange charging issues:
1. 9 times out of 10, the phone doesnt get charged using the charger.
2. However if gets charged using the USB cable connected to my laptop most of the times. Sometimes that too doesn't work but after couple of retries it starts charging
3. Sometimes even after disconnecting my charger, the icon shows that the phone is being charged.
4. Sometimes after disconnecting the charger/usb, the phone gives the beep which is heard when the charging starts. This happens multiple times and I have to shutdown the phone and remove the battery to stop this from happening.
These are really strange things that are happening to my phone.
I am thinking of flashing stock GB ROM and giving it to the service center. Is there something that I can try before I do that as I am not sure how long my phone will be there at the SSC?

Buddy SSC is the best option.
Same things happened to me till i visited the company owned ssc.
The normal ssc (not the company owned ones) had put a faulty jack which made me and my phone go beserk.
Go to a COMPANY OWNED SSC. Skilled staff, better spares and quick response and delivery.
Not the ones who have taken a dealership sort of thing. They just irritate you.

Really strange problem guys...
My phone is always "on charge" , the icon in the notification bar is the charging one, even widgets are displaying the "on charge"...
the fact is that it's unplugged !!
i've tried removing the battery and the phone didn't turn on, so i put it on charge and it finally did turn on...
After unplugging it again it still shows "on charge". So i turned it off again and this time it showed the battery loading screen, but I can turn it on this time....
Suggestions ?
the phone is working fine now but i smell a major hardware fault....
Sounds like what I had recently.
It started by simply smoking out the USB connector when I plugged the phone in to charge, then it displayed similar symptoms: did not accept charge from the wall wart, the USB-cable worked, but no data transfer was possible. It did show as charging, but the charge animation continued even when I unplugged the phone from the USB, so I assumed it was bogus.
When turned off, it reacted to the AC charger similarly: battery displayed, then the displayed stayed on when I unplugged it.
The repair shop accepted it under warranty, and fixed it, but the repair slip was left unfilled, so I'll never know what they actually did and what the diagnosis was. All I know is that the motherboard was not swapped out, as I retained all my data.
check with Samsung, if you're still under warranty!

Clean the usb port with a dry tooth brush and some compressed air mine does this from time to time as well as others. Also I believe ics has a small charge animation bug or something like that

I've done some cleaning (man, the USB was dirty as hell !), now everything is working fine again except for one thing
when i turn off the phone, it shows the "in charge" icon for about 10 seconds, then it disappears...
could it be an ICS bug ? i'll be relieved if it's just a software bug...

Bad News,
i'm back at square one....
The phone is still showing "on charge" even when unplugged...
And now when i plug the charger in , the phone charghes to 100% in about 5 minutes....
Obviously it goes from 100% to a normal level in a matter of minutes...
I hope it's a battery issue and not a USB fault... gonna try a new battery in the next few days...
Hello folks,
I have a Nexus S running Stock 4.0.4 and it shows charging on the lockscreen along with the charging battery icon even after hours of being disconnected from the wall charger.
If i check under the about phone tab in settings and check under phone status, it shows discharging.
I tried wiping the battery stats and reverted to official stock ROM again after wiping everything completely from adb.
I tried moving to different versions of Android OS, namely 2.3 and 4.1.1, and it shows the same thing.
Sometimes, when i power off and power on the phone, this goes off. But when i connect th phone to the laptop, the mount SD card immediately comes up, but the phones starts charging only after a couple of seconds. And then it still shows as charging even after removing.
It looks to he hardware issue...any ideas???
clean the micro usb port with a tooth brush that should help some i have a ns that does this, it works and charges fine
I had that happen quite a bit a few months back. I haven't had it happen since switching to CM9 though. Pretty sure its just a visual bug. Reboot makes it go away.
Let me try both the things...let me clean it and comletely wipe the phone and install CM9 just to check if it works better..
One more thing....if i remove the battery and connect it after a couple of minutes. Without me powering it on, the screen wakes up and shows the charging animation even if i haven't connected to any charger.
I think you got a defective USB port..mines was like that too before...the only way is to send it back to samsung
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
Unless its completely different from what happened to me... its NOT defective! Mine has COMPLETELY stopped doing this behavior since being on CM9...
you shouldnt need to send it in, the phone still charges and discharges the same it maybe is some reporting bug or error or something, more than a few nexus s has had this and still work fine

No man.....havent found a solution yet...the phone charges and discharges properly...it just that it doesnt show it properly..
also i think it has something to do with my micro USB port...as when i start the transfer of files from my laptop to phone, it stops for a sec and starts again..
Hello All...i fixed the issue....i guess i was using different microUSB chargers all the time...
i noticed that the metal slab inside the microUSB slot was very close to the bottom...so i took a needle and pushed it properly towards the top...now the metal slab is exactly in the middle...and the charging crazy stopped immediately...
make sure u do it when the phone is off and the battery removed...
i figured where's the harm in doing this as Note 2 is releasing shortly
jokes apart..please bend it slowly towards the top and the issue is resolved.
Hi mate, try another kernel.

I did that...i went to stock gingerbread...then stock ICS and then to stock JB....ofcourse wiping everything through adb along the way....tried CM9 RC2 too..

Battery charging animation even after disconnecting the charger (SOLVED)

Thanks...This tricked work for me too on my S2 this morning....I think I did not had the charger removed properly and the animation went crazy... I thought kernel related problem (I had tried TWRP version of Sammy Apolo 4.14 on freshly flashed ROM) and flashed compatible Philz kernel but did not work...I also did a dirty flash of my ROM but to no success....I switched off the phone but even when switched off, the charging animation came and went and when I tried to reboot the phone, I couldn't...So I even tried removing battery for about 5 minutes and placed it back, it finally booted but with animation still going bang bang.... and I then I went crazy...I have read about the toothbrush cleaning trick but before doing so I looked at the usb port but was not much sure what to do.. I thought it had bent a bit but after I saw your post, I immediately took out a needle and bent it slowly in upward direction and that was done ...However, I forgot to take off my battery before doing so but guys, its always safe to take it out to avoid any problems..... :good:
So the moral, please take care while using your usb port....

been running my inspire using Existz's ICS rom via the ace hack kit. no problems. i went and picked up an infuse 4g and decided to use it. so had that rooted and running. yesterday backed up everything on the inspire and removed the sim and sd card started using them in the infuse. was still playing games and such on the inspire. here's were things started to act weird. plugged in both phone on the wall charger and powered off the inspire. well it kept rebooting in recovery. i'd go down to power off and it'd come back on. did this maybe 3 times and then finally stayed off. today went to show a friend that was interested in it and it would not power on. no led light, nothing. plugged it in and still nothing. put in the spare battery and no led light or anything. tried to put it into recovery, nadda. put the sim and sd card in thinking it may make a difference, nope. so i'm not getting any power.
any help is appreciated.

If the phone is not booting at all and even trying a spare battery is not showing signal of life, then take it to a service centre. When the phone is plugged is showing the led light?
No, no led light anymore. Unsure of how whatever happened happened.

maybe the screen has issues. Are the capacitive buttons doing anything when you touch them?
No, buttons aren't lighting up either. Going to try some more different cords and try plugging it into my wife's mac book and see if that does anything.

I have no idea about that...but send an email to HTC to see what they tell you...
Try letting it sit and charge for a while second try to boot into hboot. I'm assuming that you rooted your phone so going through HTC for repair is not an option. I had a similar issue I ended up booting into hboot and then flashing a stock rooted img and starting all over with my phone.
Since your computer recognizes the device, did you try to send it a reboot command via adb?
Sent from my Inspire 4G running AOSPX-BR7
No I did not. Not sure how to to do it that way, but I'm sure I can find out how.
After reading a couple threads where people have had the same issue, I left the battery in it and placed it on the nightstand. It started to vibrate a few times and when I hit power I get a solid red led. Will have to search and see what that means.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
It sounds like it could be a bad battery. Given the red light, what has me wondering in the vibration prior to you pushing the power button. It almost sounds like the phone shutting down from low battery, but you said it wasn't on.
Sent from my Inspire 4G running AOSPX-BR7
Just a little note on Android phones. If you let them die completely they will not charge the battery from a PC or computer of any kind. The ports on a PC only provide 500ma max and it require at least 1 amp to charge a dead battery. That can only be accomplished by the wall charger that was supplied with the phone. If you are using another charger make sure it says on it that is can supply at least 1 amp or 1000ma any thing less will not charge a dead battery. Also note if the battery is completely dead, then the phone will not charge any way. The phone has to be able to power up and load the OS in order to charge. Androids use a software based charger that does not know how to charge unless the phone can boot and preload the the boot part of the OS. You may need an external charger the battery alone can be placed in or buy a new battery as they will usually have enough of a charge to get you going.
As the previous poster said, it sounds like you have a bad cable from the beginning and all you did is discharged it completely. Get a new cable and try the wall charger. If that does not work then spend 20 bucks and get a new battery.

vibrated a couple times when i was in bed. got up and hit the power button and just the red light would come on, nothing else. generally when i had a low battery the phone would boot up, then shut off. not in this case

well i have 2 batteries, 2 different plug adapters, 3 different cords and a car charger. tried six different ways charging from a wall adapter and flip flopped batteries as i changed cords and plugging it into the car charger. each cord and the car charger works with my infuse and worked with the inspire that day. battery was at 3/4 when i plugged it in. i guess could try a new batter, but i'm doubtful.
Hi,
Last year my girlfriend allowed me to root her Sensation to try out different ROMs and all went well. A few months ago however, she started to have problems while charging her phone.
If she plugs it in while the phone is closed, the orange LED flashes on/off at around a 2 second interval, instead of holding it's colour. Furthermore, it never changes to green to indicate that the charge is complete. When the phone is in this state, she can't turn her phone on either - she has to unplug it in order to turn it on. If the phone is already on, and she plugs it in, everything behaves normally.
Either than that, the battery seems to hold the charge normally and the rest of the phone still works very well.
I've tried searching for similar problems but haven't landed on anything similar or which may be helpful. It's really got me stumped to what could be the cause, and more importantly, how to fix it!
Would someone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Does the phone behaves in same manner if it's fully charge n switched off when plugged to the charger.does the orange led fluctuate.
The orange led fluctuate whn the voltage of charger is less and it takes times to charge try switching the charger means if you use wall charger then charge through pc and vice versa
Hit thanks button if you find me helpfully

We tried switching from wall plug to USB on the laptop and it does the same thing. However, we noticed that if the battery isn't completely drained, the led doesn't flash - it charges normally.
Would there be a way around this?
I'd pick on the odds that the LED light hardware controller is slightly faulty, but if its really like you said its nothing to worry about, right?

Hi,
greetings
this used to happen with me when i was on stock rom.
the problem is when the battery is completely drained it needs lots of voltage to get charge
for this problem i took my cell to htc service center and they replaced the adapter and the problem was solved
i think you must buy a new adapter or say a new charger i thing that must solve your problem of led and your phone will get charge as normal even with the battery completely drained OR i think we get wall chargers you can look at the picture in which we have to place the battery and the battery gets charged you justt have to put the battery.. this charger is locally available in indian market for 80 to 100 rs.. you can search on net for the charger this is really a good thing and is a universal charger chagers each and every battery here in india we call it as khekda (marathi word for carb ) charger
let me know if it does solve your battery
i have an xperia z3 that has been working fine for five moths now on lollipop , however today i noticed that the battery indicator changed from 17 percent to 50 percent to 7 percent every couple of minutes, i looked up online and somewhere it said to let it discharge completely then recharge
in all stupidity i used m phone till it suddenly blacked out, i was like step 1: check
step 2 however wasnt working as when i plugged the charger it put up the charging battery screen with the red light, then it blacked out again and it just keeps on turning it self on and off from black screen to battery screen
id like to let it survive for a while till i can afford a new battery or something, can i do that? or is it hopeless.
i will let it charge for the night, however i need the phone in 3 days and cant afford a new battery WHAT DO I DO???????? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
if you do know the cause of the problem enlighten me , many thanks
Check your charger and charging cable. Might not be charging properly. And that may have damaged your battery and charging related circuitry on your main board.

update: this is one hell of an issue
it appears this is a very common issue among phones and xperia phones specifically ,NEVER let your phone discharge
i found that i can get to fastboot mode and flash mode , but thats it cant reboot normally
i changed cables and chargers and even switched to magnetic charger, charged other devices using my charger to make sure, forced shut down using power+volume up and using the killswitch
but its all in vain and the problem is just the same, many people who had this problem got it fixed by forcing shut down and changing chargers but i let it for hours and hours to charge
i also updated from lollipop 5.0 to 5.1 via flashtools since i got to flash mode, i erased user data and everything and it installed perfectly
but still when i disconnected and pressed power button it showed the low battery icon and it still wont charge
is there anyway to chrge it from fastboot or flashmode and boot it from there cuz they work
