Help an eight year old girl! - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
So I bought my little sister this tablet for Christmas. Got a great deal on black Friday! But now I want to set it up for her before I give it to here. I'm a big fan of aokp and the nexus devices and that's what she has used on all my devices.
How is the stock transformer experience? Should I load up a custom rom for her? Any rom suggestions for aokp or aosp that is fast, stable, and problem free?
I wish I could find a 4.2 rom so I could set get up a profile. But a little early still.
So please guys any suggestions on a good rom to load up for my little sister?

The stock ROM is not bad but definitely is lacking the smoothness and speed of a custom ROM. I personally have CleanRom 2.7.2 on my tablet and love it. The only other one I have tried is Energy. I have not used any of the CM10 roms at all. I hope this helps you and if you have any other questions, search and then ask. We will do our best to help out.

My opinion, I would leave it completely stock until she expresses some kind of need / want that would warrant unlocking and putting on a new ROM.

If you do decide to give the child a rooted tablet, make sure that you do a recovery backup first and save a copy somewhere safe.

[Q] So i'm getting a Transformer

So I went to black friday at best buy with my wife and we got me the Transformer, but she wont let me have it until xmas...
Now, for the next month, my goal is to convince her somehow that its a good idea to give it to me now! And that aint workin so well..
Anyone know if ICS is coming to the Transformer?
Do yourself a solid, and search
Buuut since it's almost christmas time; yes it will get ICS.
Haha i knew i was going to be told to search! I was just too excited!
I just bricked my skyrocket, so hopefully my wife will let me have my transformer now that i have to wait over a week to get my phone back haha.. We will see...
Whats the best rom for the transformer? In your opinion?
I haven't heard anything official about ICS coming to the TF101, but I wouldn't doubt that since it has most of the features that seem to be required for it. If not, I am sure it would be available to rooted devices

Well, It's really a preference. I'm using Revolver 3.9.5 now, and so far I like. What you can do is load a ROM and play with for a few weeks and then load a different one and see how that one is.
Here are some links to different ROMS:
Revolver

Android Revolutions

Prime

Hope this helps.
If you look at Asus website they state the transformer is upgradable to ICS.

I like roach's work. He makes the Prime ROM and mods.
Hey, maybe by the time your wife gives it to you, you will get to update to ICS

show her good review on it mb its will convince her
Thanks johnny for the links! I've got a folder ready with some roms and everything haha, so once i finally convince my wife (or mommy haha) to let me have it, which will probably be Christmas morning.. ugg... Then i can pop on a rom and get busy with it! I think i'll try the revolver first..
I tried showing her good reviews and videos and everything, and she didnt care.. She's determined to make me wait until Christmas! Oh well, only a week away now! And i still dont have my Skyrocket back from Samsung, so im androidless
In my opinion, Revolver 3.95 is the best ROM for the Transformer (love the easy mods in Revolver Parts), but I have not tried that many... thinking about going to Revolution HD soon, just didn't want to in the first place cause I didn't want to completely wipe my TF, but now I think I am game enough to. Give a few a try, as has already been mentioned the most popular ones are Revolver, Revolution HD and Prime.
Sucks you can't get it until Christmas XD but it is less than a week away now .
tno~~
New to the Transformer this week.
I only had my Transformer for a couple of days till I rooted it and flashed Revolution HD. It is now much smoother and snappier. I am really loving it.
btw. I came from an iPad 2..... I love the fact I can hack this thing to my delight.
TF101 32Gb, Revolution HD 2.2.1
I didnt even trying out the stock rom..lol
i flashed a rom on it within minutes of opening it.. I hate stock anything...

what is the best rom?

hello I have my tf101 rooted but what is now the best costum rom?
p.s used google trensalte
That is a matter of opinion, you can't really ask anyone that. They all have their key areas they focus on.
Try a few. Gives you practise flashing. I only just got my tf as well - I've tried Prime and am now a currently on revolution hd. Also worth looking at revolver and krakd.

I recommend prime. I used it for a couple months and it was the smoothest and most stable. I tried out android HD and ran into some issues (browser crashed mostly) and now I'm testing out revolver.

its all about user preference. Try them all and see which one fits your needs. I flashed revolver as my first rom and haven't flashed any other one because i didnt need to.
yeah just check em out all of them are better than stock in my opinion ive tried prime revovler and revolution and all of were smooth some roms have different features. that why its best to try em all cuz you might like one set of features more than another. lways take a backup of your stock rom and leave it right on thr microsd and you can always get back if you have a problemm.

I am using Revolver. It has a ton of features built in. This ROM in conjunction with Revolver Parts is really everything you need. JMO.

DESIRE HD using ER3BUS ASUS TRANSFORMER on KRAKD
I've been using krakd and have been happy but my tf just started to discharge overnight so I have some looking in to do.
I'm currently on Revolver. The one feature that keeps me coming back to this rom; the force time-out of wifi. I love not having to use a secondary app (auto-airplane) in order to auto-disconnect from wifi to conserve battery life. I also love being able to kill the apps by using the app-switch button. Not the best battery life with this rom (that goes to revolution HD in my experience).
I was also a big fan of prime for a while, but it kind of fell behind with the updates. While I haven't had any issues with revolver, Prime just felt the most stable. I also loved the boot animation.
I had the best battery life with Revolution HD, but I would get occasional lockups with this rom. Probably had something to do with the undervolt settings of the custom kernal. The settings just didn't agree with my transformer.
I can't comment on Krakd. I installed it and only played around with it briefly before flashing something else.
I've been using on a daily basis every rom out there. I am now back to the stock rom. Probably because I'm preparing for ICS LOL.
Can anyone give me a rundown of what features Krakd is missing that Revolver has (if any)? I did try revolver, but wasn't too impressed initially, but I was flashing like crazy and didn't do a lot of exploring within each rom, really tested for stability and speed and (I know how this sounds) boot animation (yes, I know I can change it...), I was on Prime for a while, but then decided to try Krakd and got stuck with it (in a good way). Should I be considering giving revolver another look?
I've tested all ROM's but i've got back to prime again. Prime is very stable, it as quick controls build in, you don't need to install ICS themes (it comes already with it), and i love the startup!
The others are very good Rom's but i perfere this one. (it is really a question of preference).
One thing that i you can't left out on any ROM is the AWD EX launcher... It makes every transformer completely smooth like an Ipad. IT'S A MUST HAVE!
I have a video on youtube that can demonstrate the performance of my table with AWD EX but i can't post any outside links on this forum yet. If you guys want to have a look just search on youtube for: Asus Transformer with Rom Prime v2.1.0 CPU [email protected] ADW EX
I think your gona like it!
I prefer Revolver after trying other ROMs because I had strange problems on Prime like the function keys on my keyboard stop working andwould require reboot as well as search not working anywhere unless I used the search key.
Revolver also has so many optional customisations/installble apps as well as kernels and with Revolver parts all of this is automated.
Gnufabio is extremely active in multiple forums and also has monetary incentive set up with Revolver Parts having a donate and an Elite version. I feel like he is more ambitious about quality.
Cheers!

I run Revolver and am incredibly happy with it. I haven't tried any of the other ROMs here, but they are all almost the same, so just try some out and figure out which one works best for you.
Besides boot animations and themes, many of the ROMs are the same. Battery life is an opinion base topic. Some would say they have the best battery life is with Revolver, then some would argue that Prime has the best, in other words it's all preference. Just make sure you choose the right Kernel, as the Kernel usually is the key component. Some ROMs run "OK" at first but if you flash a different Kernel, it could definitely make a world of a difference (Good or Bad).
Mine's on Android Revolution HD. The only ROM I have tried. Battery drains fast though.

[Q] Whats the advantage of all these AOSP Roms

Just wondering what the advantage is of all these AOSP Roms available in the developer section?
Are these better for the developers or the users?
I ask because it seems these ROMs dont support things like the dock, asus keyboard, don't have those nice Asus apps or google apps.
I know I can flash gapps but no idea about the rest..
I flashed an AOSP a while ago and found so many things just didnt work so I avoid them now...
It would be good if they could mention in the title if their ROM is AOSP or not.
Maybe I got this all wrong and you're welcome to educate me

AOSP is from android. its the cleanest possible rom u can ever find. its like a fish u just caught and cooked with just a pinch of salt only. probably u wont experience lag and alot of bloatware taken off. asus apps abd google apps you have to dl urself. i find that troublesome too. HAHA! using a custom rom is different tho. that depends on how the dev develop it. if ur happy with stock then stick with it man.

I would say stick with custom stock at the moment like revolver or frozn but that's just my preference after trying the aosp roms.
Some like aosp better but for me I will wait awhile until there completely stable before I give them a decent try.

Ok well not so much stability now I guess but bugs there is still a difference I just feel aosp on the transformer is a bit to young on my gt540 I love aosp its rock solid works and has awesome customization's etc
Like I said maybe after some time but for now I say stock custom is best

I used Asus' official ICS for about 15 minutes before I decided it was ugly and thrown together quickly.. also comes with a bunch of Asus garbage files in the system partition and a bunch of crappy apps i never use.
I tried EOS and was happy. Now at build #21 its fast, its stable, its got some nice customizations but is otherwise bone stock AOSP ICS, like a Nexus device has.
I also tried AOKP and while I could prefer it in the long run as it is a very slick ROM, but it just doesnt seem as snappy and smooth as EOS at this time.

Does EOS still have the minor lag when scrolling home screens? It's barely perceivable but enough to annoy someone like me. The build I tried was 18 or 19.

I was dissatisfied with CM9. The one that I have been using most has been Android Revolution HD 3.1.0 (GPS locks quick, WiFi stable, dock works). Just recently I have dropped FROZN on my TF101 but have been unable to successfully transfer my APK's to it using APK Batch Installer During the process I receive a segmentation fault. So far it has been only with that ROM that I have had this issue with. Aside from that FROZN ROM is fast!! Can't say much about battery life seeing how I just started using it.

Also I'm using last revolution HD with msticninja'kernel and it's very very stable and fast but it's also my first cooked rom (I just bought my TF101 a month ago). Why are you dissatisfied with CM9? Frozn is faster than CM9 and revolution?
thanks

These custom ROMS vary in benchmarks but there really is no perceivable difference in speed with normal usage. They are all faster and more optimized than the stock Asus ICS.

Good point. There quality control is suspect. My tablet is rock solid. No flexing, no noises when trying to flex. Excellent materials. I do feel bad for some that have a bad experience. I'm thinking some bootleg builds made it out. Buy your tab from a respectable place like best buy!

I'm very happy with mine even though it's still locked and I'm not running CleanRom.
2.4 CleanROM here, no Clemsyn yet (trying 2.4 out for bit first to get some feel for the improvements in fluidity -- the Master himself asked for this ) -- great tablet. Stock is less than impressive, but with some TLC, the 700 is a fiery monster.
I'm very happy with this tablet. With its customized doc it is better than all the other Android tablets out there IMHO.
Asus has released several OTAs, showing they are continually involved in keeping this table up to date.
Add me to the list of happy users. After unlocking, flashing cm10, very satisfied with this!

Bought mine end of september and got ota to ics immediately and 1 week later ota to jb.
Have no build problems ( very well build) and it was fast and fluid on stock and locked.
Unlocked and rooted after 5 weeks and flashed cleanrom.
Well from the first day I said it is the best device I bought since a long time and for me as business user it's replacing my laptop 90% of the time easily.
The dock and screen are excellent and it is the best choice I made in comparison to other tablets.
No Icrap because it is MY tablet and compared with other tablets it is without competition.
What you want more: Good build quality, very fast and fluid and smooth, excellent dock and screen, very good battery life when on travel (min 14 hrs).
Never thought it was that good :good::good:
It could be better. I'm rooted and debloated but I'm not going to ROM it. I don't want to go down that same path as I did with my phone - too many problems, sleepless nights, headaches, and compromises. I'm done being a nerd.

Hey! Hey!
Out of the box I was happy, I received a good build quality...no squeaky screen, the tab and dock where flawless. (lucky me ).
I was later made much happier by unlocking, rooting, custom recovery and custom ROM......My flavour of choice was CleanROM. Still on 2.3 with Clemsysn's OC and bit depth mods. Also using the Data2SD (enhanced) mod. All of this took a good tablet experience and made it a LOT better.
Now if we could get Samsung's Quality Control to teach Asus how to build a device, and get Asus to teach Samsung how to develop for frequent updates. Match made in heaven. (I hope BOTH Sammysong and Assus are reading this).
CHEERS!

Easy Stable Rom Suggestions for GF

Hey Guys,
My girl has been complaining that her phones been slow and laggy and asking me to "fix" her phone.
I want to throw on a custom rom for her, but need something stable and not buggy at all because she can not trouble shoot herself at all.
I run a cherry picked version of Slimbeam on my ATT s3, but don't know what's popular for you Verizon guys.
I was thinking CleanRom for something not too different then what she is used for but wanted to see if anything else is popular.
I think she doesn't need ASOP being so used to Touchwiz, but definitely want something bloat free etc.
Thank for your help getting me some points with the misses,
Alex
Jellybeans v19 has been what I keep coming back to for the S3. TW based.

If your doing TW then JellyBeans or BoneStock. If you want AOSP, Carbon Rom 10/28.
If she wants TW go with BoneStock, my gf loves it with the purple theme. If she wants aosp go Slim.
Been running and updating Beantown's Jelly Bean ROM since it came out for myself and my wife's phone. To say she (my wife) is technically inclined would be the overstatement of the century however she likes it as opposed to stock. Nice aesthetics and customization but close enough to home she won't get lost.

Sorry folks, these threads get shut as they always spiral into arguments about which rom is "best"
Users are expected to try them and make their own independent determination as to what suits them.
