Okay so I have looked everywhere, including chinese websites for root. I have found no English ones that have worked but I have found chinese ones. Honestly I'm too scared to try some chinese root on my phone as I really can't afford bricking it.
Does anyone know of a known method of rooting this phone?
thanks.
keep it up
Have you tried the usual ones? Superoneclick, gingerbreak etc. ?

How to Root Coolpad Quattro 4G from Metro PCS
Rooting Directions:
*I WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE SHOULD ANYTHING GO WRONG!!! THIS COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE OR CAUSE DATA LOSS. AS ALWAYS WHEN ROOTING, FLASHING, ETC. ANY PHONE; BACK UP ALL YOUR DATA FIRST. READ ALL DIRECTIONS FIRST.*
1. Download "Framaroot.apk" you can download here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
2. From your Coolpad's homescreen press Menu->Settings->Applications check the box next to "Unknown sources" then click on "Development" check the box next to "USB Debugging.)
3. You will need to place Framaroot onto your SD Card. Either download it using your phone or transfer onto your phone from a computer using a usb cable.
4. Use any file manger(available on Google Play Store by searching) to install Framaroot.
5. Open Framaroot and use the first option "Install Superuser" then click where it say's "Gimli". The process should only take 1 or 2 seconds
6. Reboot device either by pressing a holding down power button and choose "restart" or pull your battery out and put back in then press power.
7. Download "Root Checker" from the Google Play store.
8. Once you are back on your home screen open "Root Checker" and run the application. This will let you know if you have root access or not. Done!
Again; do this at your own risk. And as always; there is a chance that your phone might be get ruined, bricked, wiped, explode, etc. by trying this. Follow the directions and be careful. Here are some links that might be of use; One for framaroot (same as above) and one for the Windows drivers for this phone:
1) Framaroot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
2) Coolpad Quattro 4G Windows Drivers .exe: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/77601091/5860E_driver_setup.exe
Happy Rooting!
P.S. Has anyone found any Custom ROM's for the Coolpad Quattro 4G from Metro PCS? Jelly Bean would be great, or even a Custom ICS Port would be really cool.

I've been reading here at XDA, I can find the instructions - no problem.
However, in the WIKI there are a few things I don't understand.
The problem also is that all the posts assume you know what's going on and they start in the middle of a thread.
Then there's advice to use Odin, not to use Odin, use this, don't use this.
Some say unmount the SD card, some make no mention of SD card.
Then there's different backups. I've seen Titanium mentioned.
There's advice to get the latest drivers from Samsung - The phone isn't even in the dropdown list of phones, and the letters for the model don't match.
There's the custom ROM advice. Since there aren't many for this phone as yet - and all you want to do is remove crap, what do you look for?
I have to get rid of that stupid Doubletwist and airsync before I toss the phone!
Z
It is rather confusing isn't it...
In a simple answer....
Find the SuperOneClick zip file in one of those threads in the Dev forum & root the phone. Then go get TitaniumBackup ( Pro Recommended ) & you can remove the bloatware. I'd recommend the Pro Version so you can freez the apps you don't delete.
That's what i did on my SGS4G ( and i am not a experianced modder myself )
One problem. I downloaded superoneclick and NET can't find the runtime file.
I'm using XP and ver 4 of NET. I turned off NOD32 and Online Armor.

Uninstalled NET 4 and put in 3. I can open the file, but NOD32 keeps quarantining RAGE. Says it's a trojan.
I don't really want a custom ROM - but would like some more information on Titanium Backup. The Market won't download to the phone, but going to the market on the phone will let me download.
Thanks,

Let it scrub the RAGE file, you need the other one actually to make it work
Which one? PSneuter?
Also some confusion about the Samsung driver. I also have a Galaxy 3. I downloaded Kies and the driver. I downloaded the new driver (did not install it)and stuck it in a folder named Samsung on the Desktop. Kies is in the Samsung folder in programs and I assume that the original driver is in there, too. The driver is listed in Add/Remove programs.
I can either delete Kies or rename that file to something else, and stop Kies from running. So there's 2 drivers, and I suspect they are the same.
Since I can't send a download from the Market on the PC to the phone, I have to download from Market on the phone. I can't install Titanium unless I root, but can I get to Titanium from the phone if I do root?
Thanks
Z
I use linux... so i have no idea what Kies is or does..

So which phone are you trying to Root? Samsung Galaxy 3 or Samsung Galaxy S 4G? If your rooting the S 4G you can find the drivers here http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...728034640796/SGH-t959_Vibrant_USB_Drivers.zip
I have no experience with rooting with XP but I assume it would be essentially the same steps.
If your looking to do stuff on your Galaxy 3 then please go to this forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=868
and do your research over there.
It’s not that difficult to root the SGS 4G Phone. The first thing you need to do is make sure your phone is communicating with your computer. Install the Samsung USB drivers.(make sure you have the right drivers for your O.S. either 32bit or 64bit) In your phone go into Settings/Applications/Development and make sure you check “USB debugging”. Connect your Tethering cable to your phone. On your home screen you should see “USB Connected” popup on top of your screen. You should be able to press USB connected button from the drop-down menu on the home screen and see the external SD card on the computer now. If that works then Turn off USB storage. (leave “USB debugging” checked) Open NOD32 application from your system tray. Go to Settings and select “Temporarily disable antivirus,” put your password in if prompted. Then Download SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse, expand the file and go to SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse Directory. Run the SuperOneClick App. When it opens don’t change anything and just click “Root” and let it run. It should say rooted when done. Then go to the Market on your phone and get Titanium Backup and install it. It will ask for SuperUser permission and accept that on your phone. If that fails press “Problems” button, Then “Get Busybox”. Install the new Busybox. You may have to close and reopen Titanium Backup again. I would say to download and install ClockworkMod after rooting and before getting Titanium Backup, Except ClockworkMod currently does not work for the SGS 4G Yet. So, skip that step for now. You should be able to backup your phone after this.

This is good information, but what about for Mac users? I was previously able to root my Samsung Vibrant just by installing the update.zip file via CWM. Should Mac users wait for this course or can we make it happen now?
Also, what's the benefit of rooting right now? Just to remove bloatware? There's no custom roms yet, right?
Look at the Unix instructions about associating the USB ID with the Mac. I haven't tried it, but I suspect that is the missing step.
Update: Nope -- According to Google, http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html#setting-up
Setup your system to detect your device.
* If you're developing on Windows, you need to install a USB driver for adb. If you're using an Android Developer Phone (ADP), Nexus One, or Nexus S, see the Google Windows USB Driver. Otherwise, you can find a link to the appropriate OEM driver in the OEM USB Drivers document.
* If you're developing on Mac OS X, it just works. Skip this step.
* If you're developing on Ubuntu Linux, you need to add a rules file...
(Emphasis mine)

I'm wanting to root the 4G. The Galaxy3 was bought unlocked so it doesn't have the crap on it. Like I said, the ROM seems to be ok, it's just the stupid bloatware.

Macs are out of my Knowledge base. I've taught PC repair at LAUSD in Ca, but haven't studied the Mac thing. It's something I want to learn, just have not got around to it yet.
I have downloaded the one click and samsung drivers. The program opens fine. But I have read some people getting phones messed up from rooting with this program?
Should I remove the SD card first before rooting?
Does this program work with 2.2 one click for Galaxy?
Thanks!
Hey
the version i used is 1.7 and no problem here ....
I have read somewhere that you should unmount your sd card , well i didnt and still got phone rooted..
i dont see much of problem with it ..... it will take around 5 mins so just be patient.....dont forget to install samsung drivers .... and put phone into developer mode
Can not get it to work.
Yes I did download Samsung drivers succesfuly.
Yes I enabled Debugging mode succesfully
Tried using both One click 1.7 in Rage mode. Tries to work but just cursor flashing and does nothing.
Then used the other One click program that comes up with BLUE SAMSUNG I9000 and has choice to One click 2.1, 2.2 or remove root.
I choose 2.2 and then phone resets like when I used Clockwork on my old HD2.
I chose correctly to install the files.
PHone loads files but then get error code and wont install them. Reads Signiture Verification Failed!
I read others having same issue of phone not letting files install.
Anyhelp!
I know its not rooted as Titanium Backup is not getting root permission..

yeah, i dont suggest you use rage. it took forever for me to root the phone that way. i left it on psneuter and it rooted in about 5 minutes

Thanks guys! Yes Rage was the issue. I followed his instructions and left in pnuueter and it worked perfectly! Now my Titanium is rooted and working.
Now if we could just get a good Apsd to let us format the SD card to ext 4 that would be a perfect world!
Thank you.

^ thats what i forgot to tell him to change it lol
Rooted my SGS4G using Superoneclick.
2 things I noticed. Your AV will think that Rage is a virus. NOD32 kept quarantining it. I turned off both AV and FW.
Also, after you install the Samsung USB driver, reboot your computer. I had that "waiting for device" message until I rebooted computer. Then it flew. The driver doesn't offer to reboot, or tell you to.

Hi friends just rooted the Beetel Magiq II. Had asked beetel customer care for usb drivers they said they don't have drivers. I took it as challenge but with risk to root my device.at the outset let me say that do whatever with your own risk I am not responsible if your device bricks (hard or soft).
Steps for rooting
1) first you would require drivers for the tablet as beetel has not provided with any CD for drives. So you have to download the drivers for the same. Since you all know that it is Huawei Ideos s7 tablet,we will download the drivers from huawei website. it is ~13 mb file. download and extract the file at location. attach the ideos tablet to pc or laptop. it would ask for driver location so access the folder that you created and depending on your system XP, W7 or vista. Alternatively go to device manager and it would show drivers not installed for ideos tablet just right click and select update drivers it would ask for location and according update drivers. It is important to update drivers before rooting.
.
2)Then download Super One Click Root Appv.1.9.1 and save it on your desktop.)
3)Now go to phone settings and enable USB Debugging.
4) Once this is done, launch SuperOneClick.exe by double clicking. Now click on Universal tab on screen
5) Now simply click on Root tab and wait for the process to finish. It will take some time so hang in there. In between it would ask some options click on right options, which would be easy.
6)After the rooting is complete, click Allow Non Market Apps if you need to.
There you go! you now have a rooted handset ready to accept any custom ROM.
7) download root checker basic and check to confirm that your device is rooted on not.
Hope this would help you
regards
Whats its cost? I am frm kerala( india). How much the tab cost u?

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible if your phone explodes, or otherwise becomes a brick!
With that out of the way, dive right in:
As a new member, I can't post outside links yet. Here's where to find the files for downloading:
Go to androidforums dot com and search for the '1-click root for sch-r720', click on the first link. From there, you can download the driver & root zip files.
I'm assuming you're running Win7.
1. Back up your data!
2. Plug in your USB cable. Put your phone into USB debugging mode:
Settings > Applications> Development and check the box
3. Go to the Market, pardon me, 'Google Play', and install Superuser.
DO NOT OPEN after installation! If you get an error, disregard
installation and we'll come back to it.
4. Download & install the Samsung Indulge drivers. Yes, the Indulge drivers.
5. Download and extract '1-click root' to an easily accessible folder (desktop
would be good).
6. In that folder, double-click run.sh. Reboot if it doesn't do it automatically.
7. If you were unable to install Superuser before, do it now, and reboot.
8. Return to Google Play, and install & run Root Checker Basic.
9. Post back that it works, and then send me the winning Powerball numbers!

Ok I just picked up one of these and it's rather different from other Aos phones i've rooted. you need to have SDK installed with Platform-tools
try to put them on C: if not just be able to navigate to the Dir to acess the adb shell. If you need help just google how to acess adb shell and im sure you can find a vid on youtube to help.
Rooting this phone isnt something hard. I didn't make the zip file All credit goes to Vadim for actually doing that. I took the update.zip file from the root method of the Huawei Ascend II and flashed it onto my Activa using adb.
The obligatory "I am not responsible to what happens with your phone and you flash this image at your own risk etc etc.. You all basically know the drill ;P"
Before starting make sure that you have the Android sdk installed on your computer. (I recommend installing it to the root directory of your hard drive)
Also install the USB Drivers by auto running the program when you plug in your phone via usb.
Make sure your phone has USB Debugging enabled
And now the process:
1.Download the update.zip via download link below.
2.Copy the download to the root of your phones SD Card
3.Hop on over to command prompt and go into the platform-tools directory of the SDK 'cd \whatever.path.to.sdk\Android\platform-tools'
4.Run 'adb devices' and make sure your device is there, it should say M920
5. If its there then reboot with recovery. 'adb reboot recovery'
6. Once booted into recovery then use the volume up and down buttons to scroll up and down and to select press camera button and then press power button. (Not at the same time )
7. Choose update from SD Card.
8. Choose the update.zip from the root of your drive.
9. After its done then reboot your phone and its rooted
anyway google root activa 4g and theres a youtube vid that will help. =it also can be found here "://androidforums.com/activa-4g-all-things-root/576135-guide-how-root-your-activa-4g.html"
This method does work but the binary is still outdated and Su fails when trying to update it.. but it still runs root exploreer just fine so you'll be able to remove whatever you want. As far as Dev work for this I am still trying to find a custom recovery img and hopeing some rom ports may be available soon. I'll post again if i find anything hope this helps..

Any update on this? I know it has been over 6 months, but it still seems to be the only root thread on the Internet for this phone. Haven't tried it yet, but if I am understanding you right then the functionality of this root will be very limited. (no SU at all?)
I'm just wanting to tether it so my wi-fi only Nexus 7 can have mobile data.

Do you need a custom rom just to tether?
Another interesting note: Called MetroPCS about adding hot spot plan for this phone and they told me its not possible and I have to get a Quatro or something... That can't be right can it? I thought all modern Android devices with wifi can make wifi-direct or whatever tethering uses...
