Ok I just picked up one of these and it's rather different from other Aos phones i've rooted. you need to have SDK installed with Platform-tools
try to put them on C: if not just be able to navigate to the Dir to acess the adb shell. If you need help just google how to acess adb shell and im sure you can find a vid on youtube to help.
Rooting this phone isnt something hard. I didn't make the zip file All credit goes to Vadim for actually doing that. I took the update.zip file from the root method of the Huawei Ascend II and flashed it onto my Activa using adb.
The obligatory "I am not responsible to what happens with your phone and you flash this image at your own risk etc etc.. You all basically know the drill ;P"
Before starting make sure that you have the Android sdk installed on your computer. (I recommend installing it to the root directory of your hard drive)
Also install the USB Drivers by auto running the program when you plug in your phone via usb.
Make sure your phone has USB Debugging enabled
And now the process:
1.Download the update.zip via download link below.
2.Copy the download to the root of your phones SD Card
3.Hop on over to command prompt and go into the platform-tools directory of the SDK 'cd \whatever.path.to.sdk\Android\platform-tools'
4.Run 'adb devices' and make sure your device is there, it should say M920
5. If its there then reboot with recovery. 'adb reboot recovery'
6. Once booted into recovery then use the volume up and down buttons to scroll up and down and to select press camera button and then press power button. (Not at the same time )
7. Choose update from SD Card.
8. Choose the update.zip from the root of your drive.
9. After its done then reboot your phone and its rooted
anyway google root activa 4g and theres a youtube vid that will help. =it also can be found here "://androidforums.com/activa-4g-all-things-root/576135-guide-how-root-your-activa-4g.html"
This method does work but the binary is still outdated and Su fails when trying to update it.. but it still runs root exploreer just fine so you'll be able to remove whatever you want. As far as Dev work for this I am still trying to find a custom recovery img and hopeing some rom ports may be available soon. I'll post again if i find anything hope this helps..
(^^)\/

Any update on this? I know it has been over 6 months, but it still seems to be the only root thread on the Internet for this phone. Haven't tried it yet, but if I am understanding you right then the functionality of this root will be very limited. (no SU at all?)
I'm just wanting to tether it so my wi-fi only Nexus 7 can have mobile data.

Do you need a custom rom just to tether?
Another interesting note: Called MetroPCS about adding hot spot plan for this phone and they told me its not possible and I have to get a Quatro or something... That can't be right can it? I thought all modern Android devices with wifi can make wifi-direct or whatever tethering uses...

Froyo Root Instructions using Superoneclick And Unrooting

ROOTING:
Since z4root, one of the easiest ways to root, is not working on Froyo in Galaxy 3, I decided to make this separate thread for instructions on how to root Froyo using Superoneclick.
First and foremost: Enable USB Debugging by going to Settings>Applications>Development. Make sure it is ticked.
Download the attached Superoneclickv1.5.zip file. Extract its contents. Make sure your phone drivers are installed on the computer (Samsung Kies). Then follow the steps:
1. From the extracted contents, run the file named Superoneclick.
2. Turn off your phone, then connect it to the computer using the USB Cable. Don't turn on the phone. Keep it off but connected to the computer.
3. In Superoneclick, click on the 'Root' button. After a few seconds, it'll say 'Waiting for device'.
4. Now turn on your phone (while it is still connected to the computer). Superoneclick will detect the phone.
5. Now the phone will be rooted, while it is starting up. When it is started, it'll be rooted.
6. After rooting, download and install busybox on your phone. It should take care of any slowing down of your phone after rooting.
That's it. The phone is now rooted, although it would be so much better if z4root worked on Froyo..
For those getting stuck at the 'pushing raceagainstthecage' step, try this method. Credits go to haree:
1. login as admin and then open the application. Or right click on Superoneclick.exe and click on 'Run as administrator'.
2. turn off ur Virus protection
3. remove all the additional external USB devices(this seems to confuse the SW)
i removed all the above mentioned
and then follow the instructions u will be successful
it worked for me now i have 2.2 and rooted

UNROOTING INSTRUCTIONS:
Unfortunately, the method to unroot by clicking on the Unroot button in Superoneclick does not work. So follow the following steps to unroot.
1. Download rootexplorer.apk (attached) and install Root Explorer on phone.
2. Run Root Explorer. A 'Superuser Request' prompt will come up. Press Allow.
3. Now, on the top, there will be a button saying 'Mount R/W'. Press it. It should change to 'Mount R/O'. The button should say 'Mount R/O' in order for you to be able to do anything in the following steps.
4. Now scroll to the bottom, click on system. Then click on bin.
5. In the bin folder, look for a file named 'su'. Long press on this file, and select Delete to delete it.
6. Now go back to the system folder by pressing the Back button once.
7. Now enter the app folder. Scroll down and look for the file named 'superuser.apk'. Long press on this file and delete it.
8. Exit Root Explorer after this. Uninstall it if you don't want to use it.
9. That's it. Your phone will be un-rooted.
Another method to unroot:
1. Download and install Terminal Emulator (attached).
2. Run Terminal Emulator on the phone. If you don't see a keyboard to type, press Menu and press Toggle Soft Keyboard.
3. Type su and press enter. Press Allow on the 'Superuser Request' prompt. The $ sign will change to a #.
4. Now type the following line exactly as it is and press enter: mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
5. Nothing will happen visually. The pointer will shift to a new line.
6. Now type the following line and press enter: rm /system/bin/su
7. Again, type following line and press enter: rm /system/app/superuser.apk.
8. Now exit Terminal Emulator. Your phone is un-rooted.
Hehe, first i thought it makes no sense to write a howto on this since its described in the SOC thread anyway, but man the idea to do it during boot is ubercool, didn't think of that...

I know it's explained in the SOC thread, but many people keep asking on the "Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-i5800: root, gps fix, upgrading" thread about rooting Froyo, so I thought it's better to have one SOC thread right in the Galaxy 3's Development Section. It'll save everyone reading through a lot of pages on that thread..

Can't unroot using the same procedure, but have added another procedure to do it.
This method does work for everyone. The only new step in my procedure is to do it while the phone is booting.

Are your phone drivers properly installed? Does your computer make a 'Hardware connected' ding sound when you turn on the phone? If not, then you'll have to install Samsung Kies and then connect the phone to the computer to install the drivers. Try rooting after that.
all drivers are installed.. i reinstalled twice.. when i connect in usb debugg.. says installing some adb stuff after fews secs.. comp says hardware might not work properly not properly installed. all other drivers wrk fine.. wat can i do to install adb drivers properly. . i have windows xp

Connect your phone to your computer. Then open the Device Manager. Then look for the entry 'SAMSUNG Android Composite ADB Interface' in the list. It might be under the ADB Interface tab. Right click on the 'SAMSUNG Android Composite ADB Interface' and uninstall it.
Then reconnect your phone to the computer and see if the ADB drivers get installed properly this time.

I can't help if the drivers on your computer are not installed properly. After connecting the phone while it is ON, open the Device Manager and see if the ADB driver is properly installed.
If the drivers are properly installed, this method will work..
Edit: As mentioned by mhndk14 below, enable USB Debugging in Settings>Applications>Development.
I also had the same problem with windows 7. Just make sure that the USB Debugging is enabled and then try again. It worked for me.

To remove the Live Wallpapers, you'll have to root your phone, and then use Root Explorer to remove the files Livewallpaperspicker.apk from system/app, and libRS.so and librs_jni.so from system/bin. Then un-root your phone. Be sure to press the 'Mount R/W' button in Root Explorer to be able to delete the files.
As for restoring your boot menu, that procedure is there somewhere in the Development section. The boot menu changes because of upgrading, not rooting.
It seems i have lost haptic feedback after rooting(jpb), anybody else experience this?
Edit: lol
It was probably sue to the "forced" reboot, but I accidently dropped my phone (batteries feel out) and now it's working

Yeah, haptic feedback stops working sometimes on JPA and JPB after rooting. But restarting the phone corrects it. (Although your method of restarting the phone was too brutal!! )
Thanks addicted2088...worked perfectly...

[Q] questions about root

I've been reading here at XDA, I can find the instructions - no problem.
However, in the WIKI there are a few things I don't understand.
The problem also is that all the posts assume you know what's going on and they start in the middle of a thread.
Then there's advice to use Odin, not to use Odin, use this, don't use this.
Some say unmount the SD card, some make no mention of SD card.
Then there's different backups. I've seen Titanium mentioned.
There's advice to get the latest drivers from Samsung - The phone isn't even in the dropdown list of phones, and the letters for the model don't match.
There's the custom ROM advice. Since there aren't many for this phone as yet - and all you want to do is remove crap, what do you look for?
I have to get rid of that stupid Doubletwist and airsync before I toss the phone!
Z
It is rather confusing isn't it...
In a simple answer....
Find the SuperOneClick zip file in one of those threads in the Dev forum & root the phone. Then go get TitaniumBackup ( Pro Recommended ) & you can remove the bloatware. I'd recommend the Pro Version so you can freez the apps you don't delete.
That's what i did on my SGS4G ( and i am not a experianced modder myself )
One problem. I downloaded superoneclick and NET can't find the runtime file.
I'm using XP and ver 4 of NET. I turned off NOD32 and Online Armor.

Uninstalled NET 4 and put in 3. I can open the file, but NOD32 keeps quarantining RAGE. Says it's a trojan.
I don't really want a custom ROM - but would like some more information on Titanium Backup. The Market won't download to the phone, but going to the market on the phone will let me download.
Thanks,

Let it scrub the RAGE file, you need the other one actually to make it work
Which one? PSneuter?
Also some confusion about the Samsung driver. I also have a Galaxy 3. I downloaded Kies and the driver. I downloaded the new driver (did not install it)and stuck it in a folder named Samsung on the Desktop. Kies is in the Samsung folder in programs and I assume that the original driver is in there, too. The driver is listed in Add/Remove programs.
I can either delete Kies or rename that file to something else, and stop Kies from running. So there's 2 drivers, and I suspect they are the same.
Since I can't send a download from the Market on the PC to the phone, I have to download from Market on the phone. I can't install Titanium unless I root, but can I get to Titanium from the phone if I do root?
Thanks
Z
I use linux... so i have no idea what Kies is or does..

So which phone are you trying to Root? Samsung Galaxy 3 or Samsung Galaxy S 4G? If your rooting the S 4G you can find the drivers here http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...728034640796/SGH-t959_Vibrant_USB_Drivers.zip
I have no experience with rooting with XP but I assume it would be essentially the same steps.
If your looking to do stuff on your Galaxy 3 then please go to this forum

and do your research over there.
It’s not that difficult to root the SGS 4G Phone. The first thing you need to do is make sure your phone is communicating with your computer. Install the Samsung USB drivers.(make sure you have the right drivers for your O.S. either 32bit or 64bit) In your phone go into Settings/Applications/Development and make sure you check “USB debugging”. Connect your Tethering cable to your phone. On your home screen you should see “USB Connected” popup on top of your screen. You should be able to press USB connected button from the drop-down menu on the home screen and see the external SD card on the computer now. If that works then Turn off USB storage. (leave “USB debugging” checked) Open NOD32 application from your system tray. Go to Settings and select “Temporarily disable antivirus,” put your password in if prompted. Then Download SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse, expand the file and go to SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse Directory. Run the SuperOneClick App. When it opens don’t change anything and just click “Root” and let it run. It should say rooted when done. Then go to the Market on your phone and get Titanium Backup and install it. It will ask for SuperUser permission and accept that on your phone. If that fails press “Problems” button, Then “Get Busybox”. Install the new Busybox. You may have to close and reopen Titanium Backup again. I would say to download and install ClockworkMod after rooting and before getting Titanium Backup, Except ClockworkMod currently does not work for the SGS 4G Yet. So, skip that step for now. You should be able to backup your phone after this.

This is good information, but what about for Mac users? I was previously able to root my Samsung Vibrant just by installing the update.zip file via CWM. Should Mac users wait for this course or can we make it happen now?
Also, what's the benefit of rooting right now? Just to remove bloatware? There's no custom roms yet, right?
Look at the Unix instructions about associating the USB ID with the Mac. I haven't tried it, but I suspect that is the missing step.
Update: Nope -- According to Google, http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html#setting-up
Setup your system to detect your device.
* If you're developing on Windows, you need to install a USB driver for adb. If you're using an Android Developer Phone (ADP), Nexus One, or Nexus S, see the Google Windows USB Driver. Otherwise, you can find a link to the appropriate OEM driver in the OEM USB Drivers document.
* If you're developing on Mac OS X, it just works. Skip this step.
* If you're developing on Ubuntu Linux, you need to add a rules file...
(Emphasis mine)
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
I'm wanting to root the 4G. The Galaxy3 was bought unlocked so it doesn't have the crap on it. Like I said, the ROM seems to be ok, it's just the stupid bloatware.

[Q] How can I get the Android Marketplace on my Alldro device ?

Hi guys,
I bought a tablet from the guys over at Allview. The price was decent and the tablet is nice, but the douchy problem is that they did not include the android marketplace. I need it.
The device runs a eclair (android 2.1) update 1. Is there any way to install the marketplace without rooting the device ? and If not, can the device be rooted ? It has no phone capabilities (no sim, no gps, no camera) so I have 0 ideea what tool to use, especially because i really have no ideea what happends when rooting.
The little i got informationwise is that i'd probably need to root it > connect it to pc, use the andorid debugging console to "push" the app into the system folder. Tried to install whatever vendor.apks I could find but since the "host" os was uncertain, it's probably why they could not be installed. Alas, i may be wrong. Can you please help me out ?
if you need more infor google allview or Alldro
Thanks a lot !

Here ya go! just download it to your destop, transfer it to you device via usb, or download it to android device and run it from there!
thanks a huge lot !!! I will try this out. if it cannot install it means I will probably have to root the damn thing
thought as much. it won't install. I'm using ES explorer to install it (my device is not rooted yet, as I mentioned before) and no luck.
EDIT 1: Also tried copy=pasting it into the system/app folder. it says android marketplace blablabla copy failed. Is it possible that I am dealing with a NAND lock ?
could be that system is mounted read only.
Do you have root?
nope, not yet. I;m trying to root it as we speak... so far still going through the steps
EDIT: trying this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858952
so far i got to making the recovery image. for some idiotic reason however, I cannot do adb reboot recovery again ! it tells me error: protocol fault (no status)
my guess is that it doesn't like the recovery folder's name. else i don't get what's wrong ! I am going to rename the folder, and then attempt a second reboot-recovery. see if that works !
EDIT2: did not work. Could it be something else ?
ok i did it ! the problem was I had skipped rooting and forgot to add a few more params after doing the backup... whew ! that was a close call ! ffs !

Hi,
Is there such an app for the phone P2 from Allview?
Thank you in advance,
Poli
You will need to root your device to be able to push the vending apk into the system apps.
1. Root. its essential to do so.
2. Mount system partition r/w > google for adb commands on how to do that and adb in general
3. download the google apps provided above and either unzip and push vending apk to system/apps (not sure about the exact names, you'll have to see for yourself by using Root Explorer) . Restart phone > should work.

I will admit I am an android n00b, in fact, this is my first droid and only 3 weeks out of the packaging and I STILL managed to root it. A great DIY post. Works like a charm....
... and now I will try to figure the rest of this root business out.
Please help me, I tried to install LG Driver but after installing successful, I check in Device manager but don't found LG driver.
So it's still ok ? Can I continue to Root or not ?
If not pls upload Driver for me +__+, thanks very much
P/s: Bcs I'm a girl, so I don't know much about Android, so pls help me bro
Like ChickenCanFly, I am having problems with device manger recognizing the device and it return allowing ADB to display the device. I have tried the LG driver from above, and also the drivers provided from LG's website with no success. I tried on two different Windows 7 (32bit), Win Server 08 R2 (64bit) and Windows XP Pro (32bit) with no positive outcome. It seems that I can not get this phone to be recognized by any version of Windows. Any help would be appreciated.
LG Optimus Net Driver Fix if Problem
Problem fixed!
For those having issues with the driver working, go to the official LG page here:
http://goo.gl/zx3ZY
Download LG Mobile Support Tool
Once Installed, choose "Install USB Driver"
Then choose the model number of your phone. (Can be found by pulling the battery and looking on the info panel)
Install and then go through your rooting method.
Hope this helps someone else!

This tool should help you do just that:
http://unlockroot.com/
It does support our phone the LG Optimus Net.
It also can root your phone for you too.
But if I root my phone and then unroot, then can I take it to the guarantees, would they be able to see that I have had my phone rooted? Would they accept my phones guarantees?

No they shouldn't if you completely removed the software changes and undo any other customizes such as changing the boot animation and UI tweaks.
I had a phone that had a custom bootloader, custom animations and custom rom with root, and the screen broke and I turned it in for a replacement and Verizon didn't say I word. I heard that in most cases the company the deals with exchange don't spend too much time playing around with the device to see what you did or no do to its software. Don't take my word for it though.

Impossible to root? Huawei Ascend Y

Ok so I recently picked up a Huawei Ascend Y (H866C) from Straight talk. Now I'm no noob to rooting and roming but this thing has got me beat, from near as I can tell Huawei has locked the bootloader and disabled fastboot.
Without fastboot I can't flash a recovery, without the recovery I can't get SU, without SU I can't do ADB shell and push anything to /system; so i'm stuck in a never ending loop.
Does anyone know of a way to remount the system in r/w mode without SU, or for that matter maybe just a way to unlock fastboot mode?
Again I'm not some noob whining cause he can't get rooted, I've spent quite a few hours googling, looking up other forums, and running tests myself and have only now come to ask for help. So please no one tell me to google it or to stop whining.
Thanks

i know that i am new to rooting but i do really know how to root.
first, try superoneclick.
disable all antivirus and enable usb debugging.
if that doesn't work, use gingerbreak if you are on gingerbread.
also, disable antivirus.
also, try doomlord's easy rooting toolkit.
if that doesn't work, try kingroot.
remember to use the apk.
otherwise, use the root tool at shouji.360 .cn/ root
hope that helps.

How Can I Perform a Forced Upgrade?
Download the upgrade package from http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/technicaIndex.do. Use the unzipping software on your computer to decompress the upgrade package. Do not change the name and structure of the dload folder that is contained in the upgrade package. Use a USB cable to connect your phone to your computer. Copy the dload folder to the root directory of your microSD™ card. Disable the USB mass storage feature of your phone. Upgrade the software of your phone using the dload folder on your microSD™ Card. a. Power off your phone. b. Press the volume up and volume down keys at the same time. The upgrade screen with a progress bar is displayed. c. When the progress bar reaches 100%, remove the battery from your phone for 3 seconds. d. Reinstall the battery on your phone, power on the phone, and then wait for the system to start up.

Do any of those temp-root exploits work on the phone? Can you boot the phone into recovery/download mode? Google "manually root android" and try some of the methods there.
Huawei Ascend Y - Pushed files to sdcard need nautilus distro almost rooted
Ive actually found a possible root. it requires a distro of linux with nautlius. also to first adb psuh the particular files to sd card then after doing so booting linux distro with Nautilus copying the files you pushed to root ls. The huawei Mercury has the same root method on Unleashedprepaidsdotcom, The huawei mercury and the ascend y have both pink screens which i have the drivers instaslled for. i have pushed the files to adb push /sdcard sucessfully just dont have distro with nautitlus to complete this.
Success is here
