I tried to look at my friends evo 3d and HTC rezound and it hurt my eyes. I can't bare to look at a non oled screen again. Do you own a phone with a oled display? And what should I upgrade to? I currently have a nexus s and I'm considering the Droid razr. Is this a good choice ?

i love my lg thrill screen it looks ten times better then my sisters samsung infuse 4g with the amoled display in direct sunlight. purely awesome. amazing color clarity as well. lg really knows how to make screens

now my dad owns a nexus s. but both of my phones with "LCD" (APPLE IPHONE 4S & LG OPTIMUS BLACK is far better than it.
OLED screens does not give the actual color. it gives overly saturated colors and are not very good under direct sunlight.
if u love OLED, u'd be owned by a good IPS like the optimus black (if u are talking android, that is).

Bad choice. RAZR's screen is terrible, pixelated garbage. Get the GNex or GNote.
Avoid LG at all costs. Their update schedule is so messed up.

Droid Razr's screen is pixel-ated garbage; I would go with the galaxy nexus - get my updates and unhindered bloat-less experience. Everything these custom UIs give you, a custom launcher can do and better.
+1
welcome to the club
i only buy devices with SAMOLED+ or SAMOLED HD or at the very least SAMOLED (as found on some Nokia phones)
I mostly stick to Samsung phones as they always carry SAMOLED # screens
HTC Desired had them for a while until they ran out of stock

I absolutely LOVE the display on my Rezound. It's been mentioned earlier but once auto-brightness tweaks are able to be implemented it will be flawless.

Thats exactly what i thought! "Lets turn up saturation... OH LOOK SHINY COLORZ = better display"
But maybe we are just used to under-saturated displays?
I'd rather get a screen that's more power efficient. Especially with white background.

Exactly. Most people are used to washed out colours from LCDs, so they see nothing wrong. But it isn't for nothing that TV manufacturers are always trying to push the vibrant colours of their screens.
For me, ever since getting the uberawesome GNote, I can't stand the faded looking colours of regular LCDs.
Besides I like screens with really nice blacks and colours that look alive.. So SAMOLED HD FTW....
I agree, the rich deep blacks on OLED screens really do spoil you.
Yep, I have a SGS and whenever i look at phones with non OLED displays I pity them. My friend has the SGS i9003 ( the one with S-LCD display) and we compared them side by side, the SAMOLED screen looks WAY better than SLCD. ( more than 6 people were there and we all agreed). Its all about the blacks baby ..
how would the screen of the arc s be rated alongside these phones???
I agree ,the Oled display use less baterry power than other displays, and i love it..
It's just sad whenever I show my screen to some1 who bought a phone and said "It was cheap, it is small, and it's not heavy." And they see my GNex, and they say "Awh, me wun that scweeeeeeeeeeeen." All I can say is.. Pwned by low-end.
I agree OLED is best solution, even if the color is not as real as some others LCD, but I think this will be solved in a near future.
Just think that Samsung, that is the 1st word producer of LCD displays, has just started the spin-off of the LCD department and has declared that the future of his research is on OLED. Say also that Samsung is going to spend a pharaonic amount of money in research for the next year, I'm looking forward to see results.
I traded in my first Black Skyrocket for a White Skyrocket a few days ago.. But I have noticed that the screen on my white Skyrocket is not as bright as my black one. And I am sure. I have both of them side by side and both brightness turned all the way up on both. My White skyrocket is a little bit dimmer with a more of a yellowish tint to it. Especially in the web browser like google. With the black one the google page is much whiter looking. You can really see the differnce. Is there something wrong with my White one or is this normal. Other than that the one looks and works great. I think if I did not have the first Skyrocket I would not have noticed it. Also I wih I could set the auto brightness on my home screen and leave it manual on the browser. But it won't let you.

did you check in display settings for the "auto adjust screen power"?
Running custom firmware?
the hardware ought to be identical. no reason to assume otherwise less manufacture date. If it bothers you, id be at att before 30 days is up.

The auto adjust screen power is unchecked. Its pretty bright. But considering its not the same as my first one, something just doesn't seem right. But other than that it works great. Do I risk a chance for another one, out let out just go? If this was my first skyrocket, I probably wouldn't even know.

I dont know that you would be risking anything by swapping it out so long as the store complies. If its the same again, while both devices are on identical firmware and setttings then you just have yourself a slightly less used skyrocket. if you do that, report back. I'd be very strange if the problem persists and would indicate something is different.
Hi all .. ! I moved from Defy to Galaxy S2 then to Atrix 2 and so far i noticed the three have different displays. As far as i know, there is probaly 2 types of displays. The Blue Displays, common in AMOLED, and the Yellow display. Is that true? Because i could notice a very big difference. GS2 has a more blueish tinted display while the A2 is more yellowish, nly noticeable in White/grey backgrounds. I took a look at the defy and colors looks normal, it gets solved with screen adjuster, but with it other problems arrives..! I think that this is a normal thing.. But disappoints me.. Main reason by wich i bought it is the Display, i love qHD 4.3 LCD with Normal RGB , i like more 720p displays, of course, but this was what i was looking for.. if this is a faulty display then i should move and ask for another one may be.. what do you say guys? have you noticed that comparing to others displays?
I think the superoled displays on all the samsung's have a yellowish display. That said in a week with any display it will look normal to you.

Actually the SuperAmoleds that the sammys have are a blueish tint, not yellowish... the a2 has a slight yellowish tint that has been noted here before and like you said it seems to sort of disappear with more use though.

Galaxy SII is a very good device! I still have it as my main phone. The only things i dislike of SGS2 is the screen, the quality of the plastic, its super light weight and its too thin. I lile heavy and good loking premium devices.. thats why i bought my A2 and love it. Jim you are right.. its getting normal with the time.. I wish Oficial ICS OTA comes out soon.. Is the Atrix 2 really not a pentile display? From my understanding it's the same LCD in the Photon and DROID Bionic (connector and dimensions are all the same). If so, I might have to get an Atrix 2 display and put it in my Bionic. I got my wife an Atrix 2 yesterday and did notice that the colors were a little bit better.

Engadget says this:
First, while both Atrix devices (Atrices?) take advantage of qHD displays with 960 x 540 resolution, the newer one looks better despite having a larger display to hold the same number of pixels in. This is mainly because HelloMoto opted not to use the Pentile matrix scheme, which is something that the company has elected to do on most of its qHD screens -- including the first Atrix and the Droid Bionic.

Definitely not Pentile in the Atrix 2. That was the main reason that I returned my Atrix 1 on day 29- I couldn't un-see the screen door effect.
Let us know how that bionic screen swap goes, if you end up trying it.
The Atrix 2's screen is more "warm white" than it is yellow per se. Whenever I see my friend's amoled phone I'm stunned at how blue cold the color is.
Me: "Is it supposed to look like that?"
Friend: "Like what?"

Hmmm...it must be that they actually sent us a DROID Bionic display instead, because it still shows the pentile effect. I had actually tested the screen (without close examinations) in an Atrix 2 before, so the screens are interchangeable at least.

Yeah, just a little bit, the yellowish tint all over white/grey background doesnt bothers me at all, i just thought i had a defect in the display, i examinated it closely the day i bought the A2 to see if there is something wrong with it to take it to the seller in case that something is wrong. Hmmm, the Bionic, The first Atrix and the Photon, also the Razr, Razr Maxx, Droid 3, Droid 4, have Pentile Matrix Layer, its a RGBW Layer, wich is Thinner i guess, so i think it won't work, you can try if you want.. here is something interesting to read about Pentile

It will work (at least a Bionic/Photon LCD does work on the Atrix 2).
I heard that oled screens deteriorate over time and the pixels becomes dull. Has anyone had this happen to their sgs4g?

Mine's pretty bad. Not only do I have screen burn-in where the top notification bar is, but whenever I'm on certain games or applications that display a solid color, I see a bunch of burnt-in horizontal lines. Thankfully, these are the only times I notice it. My screen is fine 95% of the time otherwise.
Despite these long-term problems, I absolutely love OLED screens, and the benefits definitely outweigh the tradeoffs. Comparing my SGS4G to my Nexus 7's IPS screen, the quality of the SGS4G's screen is just so much better.
My screen is still good but I have noticed a slight difference in the crispness of the screen

i'd have to agree with falcons2.
I have no damaged pixels or weird damage "yet", but it may have gotten a bit fuzzier. Actually since Gingerbread leaks KF1, it started going down a bit. Maybe there's an issue within GB kernel source. Well, we can ask bhundven, because I now he is bootable on an aries based AOSP kernel without Sammy-tmo code in it.
I have no proof but maybe download mode flashing reduces crispness. Also, colors are a bit less saturated. But compared to iphone 4s new screens, it is much much better.
also @op, did you read this from wikipedia?
We have super amoled not just oled.
Also, it says OLED consumes more battery then LCDs displaying colors other than black.
In fact it is the opposite. OLED save battery compared to LCD because displaying all colors is about the same power consumption.

For those who own the phone how is the screen in direct sunlight. I work outdoors and hate having to shade the phone to see the screen. I was pretty set on this phone until the article about the s5 having a great screen and has a ridiculously bright screen. I really wasn't thinking about the s5 until that article came out now i'm torn.....really want the build quality, speakers, and lightning fast camera shutter with no hardware home button. On the other hand I really need a screen that can give me the best outdoor performance.

If you have ever looked at an LED TV next to an LCD you'll know thats incredibly wrong. If you have a brightly lit room for a room with a lot of sunlight, you basically can't buy LCD. Its the same for phones, my friend has the m8 and i have a gs4, my phone looks 10x better than his outdoors.

My daughter seems to think her S4 lacks the brightness in direct sunlight that I have on my M8. Her face was frowning and drooling as she peered into the gorgeous Super LCD3 screen, which seemingly mocked the direct sunlight shining down upon it.

Depends on your luck with the device. There appears to be more than one screen manufacturer or something. My wife and I got our M8s at the same time, but while polarized sunglasses are not the slightest problem for me, with her phone the display vanishes in portrait orientation wearing them.

Yeah, I've looked at 6 different M8s with sun glasses on, some were hard to read and some were not. Which certainly leads one to think that there are different screen manufacturers, or coatings, or something. (most likely different screens though)
