I'm sure you watched the video and read the info when you first signed up correct?
Dev section is "supposed" to be a designated area where these mad wizards share their wonderful creations with us.
The post limit is intended to suppress the "I flashed your crappy ROM and it bricked my phone!!!" Newbie post. It doesn't always prevent that but...what are gonna do. Its basically for devs though. Questions, comments , general info all have there designated areas here...welcome check out the threads. Hope you enjoy your stay

Thanks!

Thanks to all the great minds here! I now have a rooted Captivate running Continuum v4 and love it. I will be donating to Icezar very soon. Took me a little while to figure it out being my first time trying to do anything like this to a phone but after reading a bit I got it.
Thanks so much for the great work and help articles!
We all love the devs and helpful community, but I think your thanks belong in the Continuum thread, not a new one...
Maybe
Thanks for the hint. I'm fairly new and all but I have figured out quickly enough that I can't post in a development forum until I've made 10 posts. Not to mention this was thanks to everyone that helped with articles in the Captivate area.
But I'll keep your suggestion in mind. lol

Don't mind him. Half the users on this forum are self proclaimed mini mods.
Yes, well, new members should learn when to post and where to post it. Now he/she knows. And if someone created a thread everytime they wanted to thank people, the Captivate forums would explode.

Yes, I can see that they can't post in dev forums, but is it really that hard to wait it out to be able to post there? 10 is nothing.
And as far I can tell, your profile doesn't specify gender.
Oh, and welcome to the forums, and happy flashing.
Ok, so I was a little impatient. lol
Thought I uploaded a couple of pics on there. hmmm
Thanks!
Hang in there on post count. Before you know it, your a senior member with 2 or 3 hundred posts.
Thanks haley!
We shall see. lol I work on computers for a living so the phone thing is foreign to me at this point but I'm learning fairly quick.
Continuum v5
While this being my 1st post and therefore cannont post in the developer forum. I wanted to thank cezar for his work on Continuum v5(Conf.# 5FV14942N3071105A) and rack up at least one post towards my required 10

This may be the most noob question EVER

I'm 40, have been coding sites since 94 and consider myself a geek...
I realize I am also a noob and as such am humble and afraid to piss off TPTB.
So... here's what you may consider a dumb question but I hope you answer it:
How the hell do you thank someone for their post? I'm not seeing something that looks like a "Thank You" button. Sure, I can post "Thanks" as a quick reply.. but I'm thinking that when you are referring to saying thanks in the funny welcome noobs video and having a thank meter you were not going in the direction of "post a thank you message and make this thread 10000x times longer than it should be"
Thanks,
Chris
well first off make sure that you are logged in
secondly, try to hit 10 posts. you can some more privileges at 10 posts, one of which is the ability to post in the development sections
Thanks. Didn't know that about the dev forums.
When I saw your response, I saw the Thanks button come up so I know I can at least see it and am not just "out of it".
Perhaps a noob forum would be ok to have? I know... I know... you deal with us enough as it is...Just saying...
Thank you again and I look forward to being part of the community (and maybe be able to add something of minor value)
Also the 'Thanks' button will only show if you use the new forum look, (Default), rather than the 'Classic' theme.
I have the same problem.
I have the same problem, guys. However, I feel its really quite silly, in a sense, 'cos I've been on XDA for ages now, but I've never had any reason, nor the ability in some cases (Dev threads) to post. I mean, now, I find myself in a position where I really need some dev help on a thread, but I can't ask them cos of this restriction.
And what option does this leave me with?
1. Spam the first 10 posts!
2. Forget about it.
IMO, this restriction defeats the purpose of a support community.
Unless that isn't the goal of XDA. But then, i'm sure they have their reasons...
Hi!
i have same problem.
i have some issue, and need to tell that to developer, but i can't because i don't have 10 posts :S

If you refuse to read the relevant thread - do NOT expect anyone to spoon feed the answer to you !
I agree with Soodgautam, this is a dev forum, and you cannot expect someone to spoon feed you the answers! Lots of devs have put in lots of effort into Rooting. Just go and search, read the threads and try out some possibilities, that's the spirit of this forum - to contribute!
Look up Super One Click. Try the latest version. Stop whining. Start contributing.

Mr. rude talker, I would like to tell you that, you are just spamming for posts. If you use the search button, this thread would not have been created.
Your first mistake is posting a question in the development place.
Second mistake is to spam and be rude
Third mistake is that you are asking on a thing which is already posted. You cash read your instructions from there and ask your doubts in that thread.
We ask can all this silly question, but, we do no want to encourage nonsense threads to be created.

All I wanted was a brief explanation + links.
Is this a difficult request?
But thank you, and I apologize because I asked for something wrong.

For the brief explanation,
You go to settings- applications-development-and check on usb debugging mode.
Now, connect your phone. Don't click on the mass storage or anything. Just connect it.
Now open super one click root and click on root..that is it..for the download links, refer the link given above..

Where is your thread?

Sorry guys,
But the first task that the modertaor committee asked me to do was to clear up the development section of each of my moderated device.
So incase you havent found your Question/App/request/ or something to that effect anymore in the developement section where you originally posted, its because I have moved to the right section.
I know it may come off as an inconvenience to some, but in the long run, I am sure it will benefit all
Cheers!

CM7/AOSP/ICS Discussion Thread.

Hey there everyone.
I'm from the Vibrant section, and I have some questions for you Galaxy S 4G users, please do know I searched around, but I thought it'd be best to have all the information anyone had on this particular topic all in one thread, so if anyone feels this is useless, feel free to delete it, I'm just trying to gain some knowledge. My girlfriend has a GS4G, and although the devs have done a great job modding Samsung's ROMs.. they don't compare to AOSP ROMs in my opinion.
Now, for the questions.
1. Why is it we can't get a working kernel to boot for the GS4G? (Someone please do explain in detail.)
2. How far has someone gone/gotten? (I know krylon handed the work to someone, but I don't think they've reported back?)
And please, no stupid answers. This is pure discussion. If a kernel dev is what we need, I could try to find one that's willing to work with me, but we'd need testers and such.
From what I heard and read around, you guys don't have any devs thats capable of doing that.

We are already working on this now. Read through my kernel thread. I have specific milestones to getting cm7 on our phone. I will not skip steps to get to cm7 sooner, compromising stability and functionality. If you want to help, please pm me.

Yep, just checked your replies on Rootz Wiki, sorry, I didn't notice that earlier.
But like I said, this thread isn't meant to rush anyone or say someone can't do something, simply for discussion and information. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Alright, flame me.. because I'm definitely doing something wrong. I'm in no way demanding an ETA or even demanding anyone to start working on this, I simply wanted to group the information anyone knows so we could help each other.. you know.. kind of what a community does?
Guys, being cynical and trolling won't get us anywhere, and tell you the truth, it's childish and starting to bore.
The guy said he wanted a technical status summary and specifically said he wants to help.
In this case, i think we do need to maintain a thread of work chords and specify the barriers.
I thank every new dev with a will to help.
I think he deserves a different attitude than a noob, especially if we don't want to scare all devs from here.
That's my opinion anyway.

It's ok. I've responded to a few of these threads. It's surprising how many people don't click 'search' and search for 'cm7' or 'cyanogenmod'. I also don't expect people to read both rootz and xda. So if you read my op on the kernel thread, I have a "Plans" section (on both forums!).

Starting threads like these without searching only causes trolling and thread thrash (a lot of useless threads in the forum that blur the current state).
When you read what I'm saying, imagine a skinny geek with a deep helpful-relaxed voice... and a smile
A lot of people take me the wrong way. I'm a geek. I read and write code. I don't like wasting my time making you feel all warm and fuzzy.

Lets keep this thread going I am also wondering how come there is so little development here but what developers we have are dedicated!
We have great developers that work hard on cm. The sgs 4g is the problem of not having it, freaking sammy with their experiments. i really enjoy their masterpieces(devs). Op you just have to have some patience, cm will come to us i believe in our devs.

Then why didn't you group all the information that is already available in the 50 other threads about CM7 into this one?
if you really wanted to do that, you could have made your OP a summary with bullet points of the details of everything that was already discussed, and then updated it with new information that comes along.
did you even search at all??

Personally I think the person that cast the raise dead spell should be getting beat with the flame bat.
I swear sometimes people are too eager to flame somebody. Its like they had a bad day come to xda to post behind a anonymous screen name and then walk away feeling better. But that is just me, Im sure my observation is wrong.

First of all, this has never been my primary device. I have never owned this device. I used to own the Samsung Vibrant, now I own a Nexus S. My girlfriend owned a Galaxy S 4G, and was using her phone to try to bring something new to you guys. (First ICS theme for this device ring a bell?) It's not my job to group 50 other threads about CM7 into this one. That's not what a community is. I am in no way a recognized developer, I know my stuff, but I have a long way to go. But it's people like you that make devs want to leave and stop posting their stuff. You swear people have time to do everything. And indeed that was my intention, but I wasn't going to pull useless information from other threads that members have posted, that are often inaccurate. This thread was mostly meant for devs, that could actually help out, and working together.
In other news, I finally have some time to mess around with stuff, might look into more themes or something, but I lack a device to work on, so I guess if some people would like to help (testing, etc.) I'd be glad to push things out from time to time.
