I've had it for ages now without any problems whatsoever.
But last night something happened that i cant rightly explain!
I un-installed a useless notpad app, that i recently installed, and after that ALL apps in TBP shows with a warning triangle, even if i do a full backup it just shows the triangle and i cant restore ANYTHING..
It says it got the app and data, but i cant do ANYTHING with it.
I even reinstalled the whole ROM, TWICE without any change in how TBP is dealing with programs..
Complete format of SD card, exct..
Still it REFUSES to let me restore my apps..
Even if do a full backup, followed by trying to restore, it says i have zero apps to restore..

That sounds like a likely possibility. Maybe try a new backup and see if you can restore that? If that works, it would tell you that the original backup somehow got corrupted.
Ok, figured out what was the problem but damn it was annoying.
Under "Filter by platform"
Check EVERY single box EVEN those who where "empty" and presto, backups worked again.
Dunno why default download of the app set it to a few select options.
Seems dumb to me.

Hey so not sure if this is sense thing or Android OS thing, but basically when plugging in my phone to the PC, Mount SD card is not an option.
I know this isn't the card, phone hardware, pc, or cable. Has to be something in the OS. I've searched all over and I can't find a option in the UI to enable / disable this....
Troubleshooting steps:
1. Tried Different Cable.
2. Tried different PC.
3. Formatted SD card and re-enabled.
4. Tried Differnt SD card (at this point I thought it was phone hardware)
5. I loaded ICS and noticed mass storage was there and working fine.
6. Loaded CoreDroid (was using RCMix3D). Option was there.
7. Did a Titanium Restore and tada option gone again.
8. Loaded RCMix3D again, option there again, until I did a titanium restore.
9. Tried with and without USB Debugging.
So this tells me something I changed somewhere disabled this (no idea how I did it because I wouldn't intentionally do that). Any help would be appricated such a weird thing... and I've seen a couple threads where this was a problem, but never saw a solution posted ... and I think this is not Sense but Android as it seems to be an issue on different models other than HTC as well.
Thanks for any help in advance!
What are you restoring with Titanium? Titanium should be used to backup user data and user apps ONLY. That is it. Sounds like you are restoring system files/apps too which is a big no no and is possibly causing your problem.
I have been doing system files too ... probably a good call on that one!! I'll reflash my rom now and let ya know, I've always done system files, but it makes sense why that is the issue.... still don't know how it's happening..
Corruption maybe?

well, to be plain and simple about it, restoring SYSTEM data from TiBu has ALWAYS been a no-no going from ROM to ROM.
restore MISSING apps and data only....never system stuff.
So that didn't work. Did an App Data only restore, not even an app restore, but that didn't fix it. I did check and USB Mass storage was working before the restore right after I flashed the new rom...
So maybe an app breaking it? Weird scenario for sure. I mean worst case scenario is I only do a restore on apps I know I need data from. Other than I dunno.

What didn't fix it? Your ROM is screwed up and you have to start fresh and quit making the mistakes you are making. Did you wipe and reflash your ROM? And it worked, you can connect to mass storage? Then it is fixed. Then when you go to use Titanium backup to restore your apps choose "Restore all apps with data". Then on the next screen you have to uncheck everything that is NOT in white text. Red is system apps and Green is your accounts and settings. While restoring the green items in most cases is safe, it can still cause many conflicts. So lets not do the green restore yet. We can go back and pick through the green items later.
After you restore the white items only report back if mass storage is working correctly.

Thanks... thats pretty much what I've been doing. When I saw the Rom was working pre-restore I knew what was breaking it (especially when only restoring app data. I just didn't know what EXACTLY was breaking it, and wanted to see if anyone else heard of this. I've been starting fresh and I'll admit to the system data restore (didn't know that was a "no no") but other than that ,, yea I'm trying to quit making the mistakes I'm making.... Thanks for the advise tho.
Similar issue.
i dont wana be a F****** noob and post everywhere. so this is the closest i could find. anyway, htc inspire, at&t, no option to mount as usb drive. i have had my phone rooted running rcmix3D. changed the boot logo option and it got stuck at the boot screen. eventually restored to a previous save (still rooted). i have to sd cards. 32G and 8G. i have booth backed up to my computer from a previous version as well. my 32 will not read on my phone after the fix. i tried reformatting it on my phone through the hboot and it will not mount. so i pluged it into my computer and it freezes "my computer" whether i double click it or right click it it does the same. so i am trying to mount my phone as a usb drive to get my computer to read the sd card to whip it. i have been trying via hboot but i get the error "E:unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory)" excuse the long reply
If I gather what you are saying, your sd card is corrupted or damaged? Your phone and your computer won't read it? But you want to put it in your phone and have your computer read it in mass storage mode? Sounds like to me the card is fried no matter how you look at it. If it is under warranty, contact the manufaturer. If not, then toss it and get a new one.
you go it. i did call the manufacturer and they said it was a hardware issue. did not specify what kind. but they suggested to to return it. if the store wouldn't take it to just call them back and they would exchange it. pretty much the only solution to the "I/O device error" thank you for the responce though
Hello everyone, for starters im a complete newb at rooting phones and have never before tonight so please excuse my ignorance. I just rooted my phone which went fine, downloaded titanium backup and backed up everything, and then moved a zip of m1 cm10 and gapps onto my ext sd card. then i followed a video on how to install these. i was running clockwork recovery and did a factory reset/clear. in the video, the next screen had an option for "choose zip from sd", all mine had was something like update from external so i clicked that and it brought up my sd card files, including the cm10 and gapps files. i clicked on them (i tried each more than once) and they both stgarted to install then said failed. Im literally here freaking out because none of the apps i downloaded to restore my stuff are on my phone anymore, and when i downloaded them from the play store they said i had not backed anything up. somebody please help me, im legitimately having a nervous breakdown because i lost everything and dont know what to do.
Ok first things first. What was the fail error that CWM produced? I dont understand what you mean by none of the apps you downloaded to restore your stuff are on the phone anymore. Where did they go? If you didnt delete them they should still be there. Did you boot up after the failed attempt, and are now at a factory state OS? Perhaps titanium isnt pointed to the correct location of the backups you made. Please provide more info.
Edit: Ok I misunderstood a point. The apps I take it are gone from the factory reset, but I still dont understand why the backup data cant be restored.
Sounds like CWM didn't flash. That sounds like stock recovery. Flash factory image via Odin, reroot, and reinstall CWM. Download an app called EZ Recovery from the market and follow the instructions. You will be fine.

Just a side note as far as using CWM goes:
I've noticed that with CWM, the backup file sizes are way too small. Hence a possible corrupted backup folder. TWRP seems to work better with our device as far as backups go.
It's always a good idea to check the size of a backup afterwards before proceeding with any risky procedures like low level flashing. Luckily there is always ODIN.
With my device backup sizes range between 2.0GB and 2.34GB.

You've got to remember that CWM backs up differently now. It backs up data separately in blobs in a different folder. So your backups in clockwork are naturally smaller. Also, I've heard nothing but bad things with TWRP on this device. I'd stay away from it and stick with non touch CWM.

When I open titanium backup and try to restore, it tells me no backups have been performed. Before trying to flash cm10, I moved the backup to my external sdcard and it is still there, yet I still can't restore it and when I try to do something with the files on my card it says no application can perform this task. Ive gotten my contacts back through tha app I backed them up on so I'm at a loss for why tb Isnt working.

Launch titanium and hit menu/preferences. From there you can change the backup location to wherever you moved it to and it should see them.
Also for your contacts... If you are planning on flashing roms do yourself a favor a migrate your contacts off your phone and on to Google. That way you just log back in to your Google account after a re flash and they are all resynced. Plus you can access them from anywhere at contacts.Google.com

I agree 100%, the non-touch version of CWM works perfectly. I could care less about touch/non-touch/color of the app etc. ALL I care about is the capability to do a sucessful restore & CWM has never failed me for that.
I did a restore from it last night & it worked perfectly. The ONLY thing I have ever had to do after a CWM restore is clear data in GMAIL to get it to send.
after backing up all my user app to sdcard, after sometime (or after a reboot), all backup data will disappeared , and shows i have no backp at all. tried several times and get the same result everytime. i have to redo all of my backup almost everyday.
i dont have this issue in my motorola xoom.
i m using this methos to switch my internal storage and sdcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857391
does this related to the issue?
any suggestion? maybe u need to do some settings?
thanks!
Hello ... I did something incredibly stupid and am on here as a last resort for help.
Have a rooted (but still locked) TF300t on Jelly bean 4.2.1. Using Titanium Pro. Did a backup apps + data a few hours ago. Had been downloading a lot of apps lately, tablet was feeling sluggish, decided to do a cold boot. Got distracted by somebody talking to me, didn't notice that instead of selecting the little green android to reboot, I selected "wipe data". Brilliant, I know.
So I downloaded Titanium from Play again, and tried to do a restore. But there doesn't appear to be anything for it to restore. The Titanium folder on my microSD just has a small XML file in it.
So... is there any chance of getting my apps and data back? Or is it all totally wiped and unrecoverable? And even with OTA Rootkeeper, have I lost root (I assume, since SuperSU is gone too)? Any advice welcome.
Also - any tips to use Titanium more effectively so that next time I do something this dumb, I can actually restore?
Ok - so my initial fear that the wipe data had somehow wiped my microSD is totally off the mark.
It looks like when I copied the Titanium backup from internal to microSD, there was an error and it didn't actually copy. It was confusing at first since I have nothing else stored on my microSD so it looked like it had been wiped except for the titanium licence xml file.
So - anybody have any ideas other than going to Google Play and re-downloading every app and saying goodbye to all of my previous data?
Hey Guys!
I'm kind of a noob, so sorry in advance!
Today I wanted to try out the new Q Beta, so I opted in, but before that I made sure to create a TWRP backup, so that I could roll back easily if needed.
Well, after like 30 minutes I realized, that some of my apps won't work properly when using this Q preview. So I went back to TWRP, did a factory reset, then I tried to restore my backup from there. It worked without a problem, but during the boot process it showed me an error like:"AuthFailed..." or something. After that, rebooting back to TWRP I couldn't see my normal folders and stuff. I managed to sideload the latest Pie OTA, it works, but still can't access my internal storage and I only see the wierd folders with scrambled letters and numbers.
I know, that there are multiple mistakes I've made doing this and I should have removed my password... Is there any way to get my stuff back and/or restore that backup? Every available box was checked when creating the backup, I copied it to my PC beforehand, I assume it doesn't contain my pictures etc.
Any suggestion is welcome! Thanks in advance!

The weird folders mean the data is encrypted. As long as the data is safely backed up on your PC you can format the data partition and boot the phone completely once and then go back to TWRP and copy the backup back to your phone and restore it.
