Not really not, maybe if you could say what phone its possible, but it would have to have good enough spec to run, then have a unlocked boot loader and be able to boot a different OS, then you would need drivers for that devices hardware
not possible according to me...
even if its possible then you'll need to unlock the bootloader ..which might be tedious ..!

Unfortunately you can't just "install" Android as you would Linux, Windows or even Mac OS X. When manufacturers compile Android (or their forks of such), they compile it with very specific drivers that are appropriate only for the specific device it's built for.
Some devices like the HTC HD2 got amazing Android ports simply because said device is so similar to many other Android devices and most of the hardware drivers for WiFi, bluetooth, etc already existed.
Is there a specific phone you are wanting to port Android to?

You can't install Windows or Mac OS X on a PHONE. Not even in la-la land.
Okay.....can we install windows OS in android????
Sent from my GT-S7562 using xda premium
No you can't, because Windows Mobile or Windows Phone are not Open Source.
I have two phones with thee same performance and same CPU but one of them has WM and the other one Android.
There is no way to install WM on Android.
But some developers find a way to install android on some wm devices.

Just curious.....Is it possible to remove EVERTHING on the Sensation (or other Android device), download pure Android from Google and flash it to your phone?
If not, why not?
I understand the "bake-ur-own" rom philosophy, but what if you just want it pure and unadulterated?
No mate you can not download pure android from Google and install to any android device. All versions of android must be customise to specific device then it will work. Otherwise will brick the phone

No you can't, The reason is that you need specific drivers just as you would for your computer. Drivers are how your OS (Android, Windows etc) talk with the hardware (Phone, CPU, MOtherboard, etc).

Hi Guys
I want to know can we change the OS of an android device.
Android ----->> Windows or any other OS and vice-versa. Like we do in our PC or Laptop. Or do i have to use a particular device to achieve the task
Thanks in advance
You usually can't.
If you want to mess with it, Google it and see who's done what with what device.
Ultimately it would be really cool if someone was able to develop some sort of boot-loader that allows you choose your OS at boot. Going between Android and Firefox/Ubuntu would be awesome (and seem more likely?)
yes its possible you can run wxp or ubuntu in your android phone, but dont run smooth...watch:
windows xp on android:

run linux-ubuntu on android:

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing the videos

It depends entirely on which phone, specifically. Remember, you need drivers for the various hardware components. Many drivers are closed-source, and we're at the mercy of whoever owns the code to the drivers.
Will we be able to hopefully run Ubuntu Touch/Ubuntu Phone on the photon? It is available for Nexus Devices but Since the Photon has official unlock...
Sent from my XT897 using xda premium
Ubuntu OS is basically CM10.1 without dalvik from what I've heard....
I also heard Nexus devices don't run it very well at all. Give it time, if it really is just CM10.1, it will probably work...
It is still in its development stages. I would gladly assist in porting however this device is my personal device and I can not afford to mess it up. I was wondering if anyone was interested in trying to port it.

what you mean is "Ubuntu for Android". "Ubuntu Phone" is another project and the only thing what is has in common with android ist the kernel. And since we have the kernel sources for our phone, it should be not impossible to port it to the photon Q.

Look at the "Ubuntu Phone" source. It's basically CM10.1 chrooting to an Ubuntu environment...
Just hope ubuntu will officially support this device

That's "Ubuntu for Android" and is something tottaly different from "Ubuntu Touch".
Ubuntu touch would be awesome on this phone and now that we have 10.1 which seems to work very well on my phone its probably going to be coming soon.... fingers crossed....

Regarding http://www.vladislavonline.com/porting-ubuntu-touch-for-motorola-photon-q/, it is possible to compile & boot it - but no graphics.
HI. I want to know if there is any way to change the OS of the Xoom. I want to install Linux or Windows 8 (I prefer Linux) but I want to run as primary and only OS on Xoom. No virtual machine, no remote desktop. Just to install it on harddrive. Is anything like that?
Ubuntu touch maybe

Not even Ubuntu? Ubuntu runs everywhere! His kernel can recognize even microwave! I like very much the idea of Ubuntu on my tablet instead Android
Not going to happen. You can partially run Ubuntu Touch. But it's far from completely working.

Hm... If we can't run ubuntu, what we can? why android works and ubuntu not, having the same kernel? Do I understand right, that drivers are in kernel and kernel have "public" api?
i have xoom in disposal. i want to use xoom as dev platform on linux. i want to have access to wifi, bluetooth, camera, sensors built in, etc. is it possible, or can you suggest some other kind of such platform? i don't really need 3d acceleration for example. or will it be much simpler to develop on ndk for android?
you can run linux through chroot.
(with the right kernel)
md5?
I've downloaded this backup. I've checked md5 properly, and it was the same, but I couldn't restore it due to mismatching at md5. any solution for me? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811747

Recently I've been thinking the WiFi and BT issue on my rk3188 board (apart from it being Au not the other versions of the dual purpose chip rk903) is that it only happens if rooted so do they have a tamper trigger?
Other thing was android adb was installed and it was comming up on PC as rockusb device but batch tools wasn't recognising it was even corrected after doing everything the net said about it (modding infs etc) the way I got it to recognise is by booting it to download via reboot menu that I had found on oma s rk30 root project not sure who credits go to on it so just stating where I got it

Use the batch tool on my drive works wonders 23/7
