Just curious.....Is it possible to remove EVERTHING on the Sensation (or other Android device), download pure Android from Google and flash it to your phone?
If not, why not?
I understand the "bake-ur-own" rom philosophy, but what if you just want it pure and unadulterated?
No mate you can not download pure android from Google and install to any android device. All versions of android must be customise to specific device then it will work. Otherwise will brick the phone

No you can't, The reason is that you need specific drivers just as you would for your computer. Drivers are how your OS (Android, Windows etc) talk with the hardware (Phone, CPU, MOtherboard, etc).

Hi,
After rooting my device is getting detected in various apps like ROM manager, Rom toolbox and even when sending force close report as HTC Vision instead of Alcatel ot-890d. Should I be worried? Is there any way I can benefit from this?
Thanks
sent from my Alcatel OT-890D
This is on purpose. The HTC is much more common then your Alcatel. You will get a lot more compatible apps in google market with that.
Thanks. After I posted this I checked my settings and found model name in about section had turned to htc vision.

Can I flash recovery from htc vision? Do U think it'll work?
sent from my Alcatel OT-890D
No.... just because the phone's build.prop has been changed to trick the market does not mean you can do shenannigans meant for other devices.

Not really not, maybe if you could say what phone its possible, but it would have to have good enough spec to run, then have a unlocked boot loader and be able to boot a different OS, then you would need drivers for that devices hardware
not possible according to me...
even if its possible then you'll need to unlock the bootloader ..which might be tedious ..!

Unfortunately you can't just "install" Android as you would Linux, Windows or even Mac OS X. When manufacturers compile Android (or their forks of such), they compile it with very specific drivers that are appropriate only for the specific device it's built for.
Some devices like the HTC HD2 got amazing Android ports simply because said device is so similar to many other Android devices and most of the hardware drivers for WiFi, bluetooth, etc already existed.
Is there a specific phone you are wanting to port Android to?

You can't install Windows or Mac OS X on a PHONE. Not even in la-la land.
Okay.....can we install windows OS in android????
Sent from my GT-S7562 using xda premium
No you can't, because Windows Mobile or Windows Phone are not Open Source.
I have two phones with thee same performance and same CPU but one of them has WM and the other one Android.
There is no way to install WM on Android.
But some developers find a way to install android on some wm devices.

Hi Guys
I want to know can we change the OS of an android device.
Android ----->> Windows or any other OS and vice-versa. Like we do in our PC or Laptop. Or do i have to use a particular device to achieve the task
Thanks in advance
You usually can't.
If you want to mess with it, Google it and see who's done what with what device.
Ultimately it would be really cool if someone was able to develop some sort of boot-loader that allows you choose your OS at boot. Going between Android and Firefox/Ubuntu would be awesome (and seem more likely?)
yes its possible you can run wxp or ubuntu in your android phone, but dont run smooth...watch:
windows xp on android:

run linux-ubuntu on android:

It depends entirely on which phone, specifically. Remember, you need drivers for the various hardware components. Many drivers are closed-source, and we're at the mercy of whoever owns the code to the drivers.
I'm a noob so please pardon me.
I'm searching for a nice HTC Sense 4 ROM so that I can feel that I have like an HTC phone, the problem is that I don't really know how to determine if the ROM can run on any Android ICS phone.
To be specific, here's the ROM I wanted to put in my phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957585
In the instructions in the link above, what did the author mean about "flash the ROM and flash CDMA Converter 1.0" ?
And lastly, the term "wipe" in Android means something like reformatting your computer or Factory Reset, right?
Btw, my phone is a Cherry Mobile Flare, it's just a phone made here locally in the PH.
For those who'd answer all of my questions, I give you my gratitude.
This ROM is for One V. You can't just simply install a ROM , which isn't for your device....you must port it.
Its only for HTC One V

Like I said I am new at this whole android thing....love it, But I heard it was much more customizable.....cant find a root for At&t One X software 3.18....I've seen posts but are unsure if they work for my software. Without rooting is there a way to customize say the status bar notifications....(without Omega, worst program ever) what are my options for customizing I use nova launcher prime now...but even it only allows so much, is there a root? is there a program that will allow me to customize this phone to fit me?
Any help appreciated
HTC One X: stock at&t 3.18 running android 4.1.1-----cause god only knows when at&t will get the 4.2 update

Nope. Root is essential to customizing such things. All I can say is search search and don't forget to SEARCH and follow directions word for word. Good luck friend

Yeah...I don't wanna paperweight this thing and all the root files I find are 2.2 or lower....already bricked a Moto atrix 2...can't afford another incident, wife will kill me....I found one that uses adb but it requires SDK and I don't really know if I trust myself to do that...if someone knows of a root for 3.18 please share

no.
The OTA should be rolling out within a month or so I imagine.. hopefully you won't have to wait too long.
You must not have looked very hard, there is a root exploit for your firmware version.

My index thread found as one of the sticky threads at the top of General (also linked in the top post in Development) has all that you need, and clearly calls out which root method to use for 3.18: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Read up and understand what you are doing, before attempting anything.
Ok....so I followed the thread and re-read it over and over....found the android sdk method as well downloaded the SDK package with eclipse, still following instructions tried to test adb server and making sure phone was recognized
....and it never does register, I have debugging on....I have open source downloads on, the proper drivers for the phone....I got onexchopper, busybox, and ownage all in the same folder as the adb....when I plug the phone in to the usb post it all reads....HTC SYNC off, I plug in to the frost usb ports, would that matter?

Try different usb cables/ports.
Make sure you have no phone software running at all for an y phone maker.
