My Desire S starts lagging when ever i set a live wallpaper,I am using the preinstalled live wallpapers:crying: , all my Home Screens transition get slow, ever in the menu scrolling,
Is you're phone rooted?
And what Rom do you use? A custom one? Or a Stock one?
I use a Supercharged custom rom and i have small lags with live wallpaper (not much).
The lag is because of Sense. It slowed my phone down when i updated it to official ICS.
Reboot the phone! See if you get some performance out of it!

hmm i don't really know how to fix this
But when i tested today live wallpaper on Sabsa Prime V10.0 i did have a little bit of lag changing homescreen.
But i haven't got any lag problems in apps and in the menu.
I suggest to try All Sense 3.0, 3.5, 3.6, 4.0,4.1 roms. iam 100% sure that there is one lagfree is with live screensavers.
i tested once a live screensaver on a sense rom but i forget which one i tried.

Hi guys,
Recently came from a Desire HD, running a custom AR rom,
Now between a stock rom and custom AR rom, the difference was like Black/White.
Standard rom was slow to react, took for ever to load anything.
Custom rom was lightning fast and did everything instantly,
Now i have the Nexus S, the standard rom seems slow to react, and takes for ever to load anything
My question to those running Custom roms, has it sped up the phones reactions and loading times?? im debating weather or not to run CM7 or not on my Nexus S
Thanks alot,
Ive had the phone since the day it was released
I prefer CM7 this is the first phone ive ran there rom and its really quick and snappy IMO allot better than stock ATM its only at 2.3.3 but 2.3.4 will be out very soon and you can just update over your current version
also it has a theme changer you might want to check out this theme if you use CM7 its very nice
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943423
Ok so I just unlocked my bootloader, rooted the phone, and loaded the latest cm7,
I can say now for sure that cm7 is so much more responsive, its amazing,
If there is anyone debating weather to use a custom rom or not, I can tell you its worth doing.

Also just flashed 7.0.3 with the 1.3.0.2 netarchy kernal,
Ran it at 1400mhz and gained 4fps on ninamark1 benchmark
No issues with it yet. All working fine,

Hi guys,
I decided I want to flash an ICS rom to my nexus S.
Question I have though, is what will work for my phone, which is a 9020A (AT&T) and what rom would give me the closest to stock ICS like what OTA ICS would be?
I was thinking cyanogenmod 9 but I have used CM7 and remembered it being sort of a hassle...
I really want the facial unlock feature if possible. I don't know if it's native in ics or what but I want that.
Tell me why you think the rom you suggest is best, please. I want to know what the pros and cons to it are. And links would be really nice!
Thanks!
stock ics
I'm happy with the stock 4.0.3, I tested Peter Alfonso nightlies lately but I was annoyed by his adjusted auto brightness however it seems to be very popular and smooth and fast.
Stock runs great on my i9023 and there are no killer features in any stock like rom yet imho. But I'm using a custom kernel which is imho always better than the stock kernel.
edit: face unlock is useless since it recognizes nothing and is less secure than a pin or a pattern
Im using the same model phone as you are and running cybergr ics v3. Its by far the best rom so far.. try it, he has alot of extra features.. daily rom. In a couple of days v4 is coming out.
I just flashed revolution HD 4.2.3 this morning with speedy 4 kernel and this is definitely the best combination I've used so far.

I still use the DrewGaren ROMS, they are plenty fast and stable, along with the latest Glados Kernel They seem to give me the best results.
Stand corrected. cybergr ics v3 is a really fast ROM, probably the fastest i've ever seen my phone, just need to update it to v2.8 Glados
Face Unlock is a cool feature. Unfortunately, our front camera is too bad to properly recognize faces. If you get lucky - in good light - you might be able to unlock it, but it really is no fun at all.

Looks promising. I will try that if I can't find a way to get stock ICS on the 9020A...
Might even try it anyways. Thanks!
Hey please let us know if you do it! I am new to all this rom rooted thing and need to know which rom will work with my i9020a since I am a bit of a rookie!

Works great. No radio flash needed. Install went smooth aside from a few derps on my part. Rom seems a bit laggy but I think it's just because it's reinstalling everything. other times it's blown me away by how fast it is. Face unlock works pretty well. love the interface. I can't believe it's android, its awesome!
I've tested almost every ICS rom's available and right now KANGY6 with MATRIX v14.5 CFS it's the best combo for me.
i'm getting 3000+ on Quadrant with 1.46Ghz OC
You may try the CYBERGR ROM it's also very stable and fast.

ok, I dun goofed. I think I restored a system app on accident thinking that it would restore my messages or something... but my mobile data quit working when i restored that stuff (multiple restores, but thought i was just restoring user apps not system). any idea how to fix the mobile data without re-flashing?
Edit: Fixed, but lost my conversations in my messaging. Oh well. At least the android gods love me again. Anyways this rom is great, it works perfectly! So smooth!
Looking to get a few opinions from ppl that flash multiple roms to their devices. Looking for something that is stable, not overclocked, and has the least amount of reported issues. Thanks in advance!!
i am currently using insertcoin 4.6.1 and it is very stable and fast also without overclocking it
Android Revolution HD is great, very fast, very stable and I've had no issues so far.
The Android Revolution HD ICS is a really good ROM. I just recently flashed it and love it. It's fast and stable. I performed the benchmark test with the ROM and came up around 2900-3000 compared to the previous 1900s.
I will second Insertcoin. The only issue is the inbuilt WiFi tether being broken, but I believe that is an issue with ALL current ICS roms. Barnacle works wonders.
Flashing Android revolution as we speak.. I thought it was supposed to give an option to select 1.2 or 1.5?
InsertCoin and ARHD are both extremely popular options. My suggestion is to try them both and see which one works best for you. Give each one a few days to get the kinks worked out and always make sure you do a full backup and Super Wipe every time you change ROMs!

I had the same thoughts as you when I was using Clockwork Mod to flash roms, it never asked anything about the install. Now, I use Touch Recovery and I have yess/no options when I flash roms now
Its really difficult to find a fully compatible ROM for your phone, as what happen to mine tried the popular one which i got a lot of issues some people not, so I tried other. Every ROM's claiming fast/stable. To be fair you can to try each for yourself which I did and happy with what i have now. Different people have thier own choices depends on what their need. Go out and explore there now 44+ ROMS you can narrow down which is more popular and depends on their feedbacks. Goodluck.
If you would like to try non-sense I recommend miui v4 or either CM9 kang. I've had zero issues with either.

Yeah, it will ask you but only if you have installed 4Ext recovery instead of clock work mod. In my experience 4Ext is a much more complete recovery.

insertcoin rom is the best for me
I've been running Android Revolution HD 5.3 since January. This was my first experience with a non-stock android device as I bought the device configured in that way. I was very happy with it, but couldn't get HTC Sync to transfer my contacts and found it a little laggy, other then that it was great. The best advice I was given to fix my issue was to reload/update the ROM. Mike actually uploaded his latest version 6.4.0 while I was downloading 6.3.1 so I scrapped that and went with 6.4.0 since it was based on the Final HTC RUU 3.32.401.3.
Its only been a day so its not much of a test, but so far its way better and faster then the old ROM even when it was fresh. HTC sync worked flawlessly. the response time is as close to instant as you can get. You need to use 4ext recovery to have the option to use the 1.5Ghz kernel or load the Sony Bravia engine. I chose both options and have seen no issues, only improvements.
Like everyone said its really your taste so try out a few varieties, just remember to superwipe between them else you might find bugs that aren't really an issue with the ROM but because you didn't clear all the old data.
All the best and have fun.
Hey Guys...
I Bought this Phone before 2 months..I want to know which is better...Stock OR Custom Roms....???
As I'm from India, so i'm currently on Gingerbread 2.3.4 & Sense 3.0 ...I don't know what to do...Waiting for ICS Upgrade OR Flash the Custom one... I'm Seriously hating Sense 3.0(bcs Sense 3.6 & 4.0 are way Better than 3.0) AND Yea.. I'M LOVING SENSE 4.0 :good:
And Custom Roms will void my WARRANTY... :crying:
Is Custom Roms are better than the Stock one...if yes then How???
I don't know whether the custom Rom will give me such a performance which I'm getting from the STOCK one....Speed...Stability....Camera...BugFree...Supports...
If Custom ROM will give me TOTAL features then I'm Ready to void WARRANTY...
Totally Confused....
Hope You all Guys Suggests me the Right Way...
Custom ROM= Both Sense and AOSP versions
Custom= Kernels, with cpu overclock
Custom=Faster with ramtweaks
Custom=Less bloated
Custom= Some roms have tweaks, where you can change very much.
Custom= You will have 4.1 (JellyBean) Before the end of 2067
Go for it, it's really worth it!

Custom ROMs are better IMHO because we remove htc spyware and data logging crap, they can be themed, devs add speed, stability and smoothness tweaks, different boot animations, different everything really
And another thing you should be aware of, htc's ICS sense 3.6 updates are filled with bugs (exchange email not working properly, car mode not working as it should etc) and most custom ROMs fix these issues (curtosy of the Tmous build which is by far the most stable stock update because t-mobile actually seems to care enough to fix htc's code )
Custom roms are waaaaay better! They are more stable, in my opnion.example on stock ROM id get restarts and reboots that has never happened using custom rom! All the roms are great! Thanks to the developers we have many great choices! The bloat is removed and they look, better. So many reasons! I love my custom rom! I dont regret rooting for a second!

I forgot to add that since custom roms are rooted, you can run a greater variety of apps - some of which like system tuner, terminal emulator etc require root

But What About Battery Life ???
I read lots of Posts having "Drain the Battery Quicker" issue....
And lots of People are blaming that custom roms are gaining a more battey....!!!!
Some People are blaming Battery only stands for 2-4 hours......!!!!!
Some roms have better battery life than others but it really depends on your kernel and cpu speed. You can under clock without losing performance and save on battery life. So its really up to your settings.

Is there any 100% stable rom available for Desire S? There is nothing in the whole wide world nobody is complaining about.

Fully stable ROMs that I've used and liked are:
Gingerbread (Android 2.3):
Endymion
Reaper
Cyanogenmod 7
Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0)
ICE_DS 4.3 (fully working!)
Fallout (not 100%, missing wifi tethering, but every single other thing works).
Hope this helps!
you mentioned ICE_DS 4.3 (fully working!) can you send me the link from where i can get the guide and download it? I've stock 2.3.5 on my Desire S with Sense 3.0, thanks!

try it yourself.
Don't let other ppl's preference determine what suites you, if I ever did that then i would be stucked at rom A, and i wouldnt even bother to try rom B.
Even though i read that there were many issue with rom C i still tried it out, and the issues they mention didn't appear in my phone. So my current rom is now rom D.
So then rom B had an update, so i back-up my current rom then restore rom B then updated it. I didnt like it so i went on to try rom E which was one of the lattest developement.
Take ur time to try it all, because once u tried everything u will get bored as i am now and just waiting for the lastest update to come.

I'm pretty conservative when it comes to changing ROMs.
I know that CyanogenMod 7 comes with integrated OpenVPN and WiFi tethering if I recall correctly. I consider these two features as quite desirable. I assume that Endymion and Reaper have that too as they are based on CM7, right? Apparently, Reaper is not based on the stable CM 7.2 release but then, on the other hand, it has been advocated as very stable. So, why has the developer then promised a final release?
I'm scared of losing my apps and data when changing ROMs. What ways do you guys use to ensure that your can restore everything to working order after you've flashed your new ROM?

Any recommendable TB beginners guides out there?
yes, perfectly good enough. You just won't have the batch function. But it's easy to use and has a simple ui. I will say this though, if your going to be flashing roms regularly then it is more than worth paying for the full app, I paid for tb and Rom manager on the day I unlocked my bootloader, and haven't once thought that maybe I shouldn't have

Well, in that case, stock Rom suits best for u. IMHO, the loveliest part of Rom developing is that someone found issues and someone trying to fix it. That's what Android Dev really is. And I enjoy using all kinds of Roms developed by those awesome HTC Saga developers. Every Rom has some bugs, and it doesn't matter if they don't affect your daily use. Enjoy them I'm currently using CM10 by nexx. Rant too much...:banghead:

I don't agree with that.
I had to disable the SIM-code, because every couple of days, my HTC crashed and Restarted.
(if you don't know that, you don't get call's because of the simcard-code).
That was the reason I bought a new smartphone (xperia U).
Since the HTC was in my desk-drawer, I began to experiment with rooting/changing ROM
Now I have fall-out for 2 weeks now, and my phone hasn't crashed 1 time.
So for me, custom ROMS are more stable than the stock one. (and faster, smoother, ...)
It just feels like a whole new phone.
Anybody knows witch ROM is the best for Battery Life ?
It should be ICS and Sense 4.0 ... At the Moment i have the "Project X" installed
Try ice ds...I am getting on an average close to four hours of screen time on a full charge...that's the max I have ever gotten on any Rom ics or gb...
