Hi guys,
Recently came from a Desire HD, running a custom AR rom,
Now between a stock rom and custom AR rom, the difference was like Black/White.
Standard rom was slow to react, took for ever to load anything.
Custom rom was lightning fast and did everything instantly,
Now i have the Nexus S, the standard rom seems slow to react, and takes for ever to load anything
My question to those running Custom roms, has it sped up the phones reactions and loading times?? im debating weather or not to run CM7 or not on my Nexus S
Thanks alot,
Ive had the phone since the day it was released
I prefer CM7 this is the first phone ive ran there rom and its really quick and snappy IMO allot better than stock ATM its only at 2.3.3 but 2.3.4 will be out very soon and you can just update over your current version
also it has a theme changer you might want to check out this theme if you use CM7 its very nice
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943423
Ok so I just unlocked my bootloader, rooted the phone, and loaded the latest cm7,
I can say now for sure that cm7 is so much more responsive, its amazing,
If there is anyone debating weather to use a custom rom or not, I can tell you its worth doing.

Also just flashed 7.0.3 with the 1.3.0.2 netarchy kernal,
Ran it at 1400mhz and gained 4fps on ninamark1 benchmark
No issues with it yet. All working fine,

hi guys im new to the galaxy s 4g, i just got it today and im looking for a complete stock version of android. froyo or gingerbread. i would rather have gingerbread but i cant find one lol. also how come i dont see a cm7 one? well if u guys can send me a link i would appreciate that. i looked in the development section and i didnt see a stock android one. also are they buggy or have any issues? i like this phone to be fast cause stock is laggy plus i dont like touchwiz. thanks
There is no cm7 rom as of yet. If your looking for a completely stock rom your phone came with one but if you want a super smooth fast rom look for the icbinb rom by team acid.

well i just want the stock build of gingerbread like the nexus s has. i dont want touchwiz at all.. its too laggy for me. i was hoping there was a stock build of gingerbread thats why i got this phone. but i guess i can wait for cm7 to get a rom going. thanks though
I am trying to do the same thing on my phone. My sister-in-law works for google and got one of the Nexus S phones that google gave away as a christmas present to all the employees and I wanted to get a copy of their ROM on my phone. Unfortunately, she has Verizon and gave her phone away to another co-worker who needed another one before I was able to snag it up from her I don't want to use some program that just flashes the new OS on top of the old one... That lags the phone and doesn't really do the trick (Like running windows modulator in Mac OsX.) I want to wipe the phone and load Android 3.2 onto my phone... anyone help please?!
If you don't like Touchwiz, you can install another launcher from the market, like Go Launcher or Launcher Pro. Touchwiz is mostly just a launcher, it doesn't really slow down the phone.
If your phone is laggy, I'd try rooting it, and then uninstalling some of the bloat that comes on the stock rom.
just flash icbinb for froyo. delete tw after you get another launcher. i would say for a lightweight one, try zeam launcher
i went from sensation to g2x so I'm back here again but what is the best rom rite now? its been a long time so yea i don't know but you can you guys tell me
Cm7 to me does the job

I use CM7 as well, works great for me, but I really like ASOP and have used CM on my past 7 phones
First off, update the device with the LG Software Updater so you'll get the new baseband. Then you can flash any gingerbread ROM you'd like, and keep the new baseband.
From my experience I have tried xboarders 1.2.2, eaglesblood both 2.3.3 and 2.3.5, and of course CM7. They are all great roms. I have not used MIUI yet or any others but have heard good things about all of them. A Rom is really going to come down to personal preference. I am currently rockin CM7 and it is awesome! If you want to customize the look of your phone I would highly recommend giving CM7 a try. Remember, when installing CM7 to also install google gapps. That will allow you to link your google account to your phone. Try all the roms out. Once you have root it is super easy to flash whatever rom you want.
I am just posting this because i recently came from a Mytouch 4g. I got sick of HTC sense so now im going pure stock android. Just posting this because i know nothing about roms and such for this phone. Just wondering if someone could help me out which rom i should use, kernels, tricks, etc.... any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!
Hello and welcome. Like I tell all newcomers to the G2x, this phone has its bugs, but with the right combination of rom and kernel, this thing can be a beauty. I personally am using a pre-rooted stock OTA GB along with faux123 0.1.3 kernel. However, all phones are different and so are users, so you will have to experiment to find out what works best for you and your phone. Have fun.

Thanks for info. as soon as my G2x comes in the mail i will be trying various roms and kernels to find out whats right for me.
Nice =)
I'm running the stock ROM and I love this phone! There are bugs but for raw performance and features this phone is awesome. It also helps that I paid nothing for it!

Also how do you get that google banner under your name?
Well CM7 is always a good bet. Ive had great experiences with Weapon rom which is a more stock LG rom with tweaks.
MIUI is also working awesome. Im using 0.8.19 MIUI from the rom forum.
You'll need to NVFlash first which only takes a second. This installs a good clockworkmod recovery.
Then just download roms to SD and flash away.
No root required to start flashing. All custom roms have root access.

I had a friend make the banner for me, and he doesn't like other people using his work without his permission. But if you're trying to get your own banner, you just need to edit your signature, and insert the image.
My personal reviews:
CM Nexus 2.3.5: great rom, close to stock
Eaglesblood: lots of features
CM7: not for me, felt laggy
OMGB: fast and speedy, really close to stock with some nice features, but couldn't get data to work
Weapon: couldn't get data to work on my phone, I view it as Eaglesblood
MIUI: great, fast. ran into problems with battery life. Must of been the kernel.
Xboarder's Stock 2.3.3 rom: The current rom i'm using, quick, fast, and the closest to stock you're gonna get.
Hope this helps
Weapon G2X with faux's kernel is the best in my opinion. I'm getting 10+ hrs of battery even at 1.4 GHZ

New like you
I got my G2x in November and like you never messed with any ROM's or Kernels, basically never had a phone worth rooting so I never bothered to learn anything about it. Once I read the beginners guide on installing NVflash and CWM, I began flashing like crazy. I really liked CM7 and I am anxiously awaiting CM9. I got the fastest benchmark test with Eaglesblood and an OC kernal, but I just flashed this-
RG2x-MIUI v1.12.23 and so far I love it. I've never used MIUI before and so far it has been extremely smooth and looks awesome. This has the faux kernel built in and the benchmark test was almost as good as Eaglesblood. I did flash the CM7 camera and the Bravia hack and now the camera works as good as the stock GB one. However I don't think Wifi calling works. Hope that helps, I know you'll have fun like I did flashing all the different flavors out there!
Im using Eaglesblood with Faux123 0.4.7. Its really smooth no lag. Ive tried others but i always seem to come back to this one
I'm running weapon 3 with faux123 0.1.3 kernel at 1.4ghz and it runs great its fast and smooth and I get great battery life. I have also used miui and its a great rom as well.

Fitsnugly's CM7 Kang paired with either Faux or Trinity kernel is best for me.

hey, ive been trying to figure out which custom rom + kernel combination should i use but in every rom i'm reading some or the other complaining about something not working, losing signal, or sudden batttery loss, random reboots
is ther a reliable custom rom out ther ? .. because i dont wanna miss out on an important call or message or e-mail at the right time
i really liked what brainmasters miui and kelmsking have done with their roms but still even though its written stable but users aint feeling it to b stable.
i wud like ur opinions on this, and also if u all could help me find a stable rom like the stock one. i am always travelling so i cant afford to have a buggy phone cuz i wudnt have time to go to my computer to do something about it.
i know i have read it many times ther is no best rom cuz its personal choice, but still i want to knw more about stable roms

What's GPA18? I just got my S a week ago, I downgraded from a HTC Sensation and I'm going to use this for a while until Ice Cream Sandwich comes out, but I'm using OXYGEN's rom right now. Stock kernel it comes with and everything, and it's pretty stable for me, great battery life, sometimes I lose data but that's because of the radio update, but other than that, it's great.
gpa 18 is peter alfonso rom, gpa 18 is still not stable though ..
Hi,
I tried CyanogenMod7 (Nightly Builds and Stable version 7.1.0), MIUI (latest version) and Oxygen 2.3.1.
CM7: This is a great ROM but I got random reboot or asking my PIN code. I only have Google Apps, nothing about G+ 2.0 or GWallet. I got those issue since a while on Nightly Builds.
MIUI: if you like IPhone style, this is a great ROM too. None reboot.
Oxygen: this is also a nice ROM. You need to custom it with Go Launcher, GO Weather, GO SMS, DSP Manager... because this is a little raw but, nothing to say only stable.
Performances are pretty good.
There is also NSCollab ROM which is built off Cyanogen Mod,and its a combination of both stock and Cyanogen which I've found to be more stable probably cause of the kernel I.e Matr1x which is built off the stock kernel
I'm using NSCollab 1.0.50 right now and I haven't had any issue yet
I tried netarchy and Trinity kernels with NSCollab but matr1x seems to be the best with NSCollab, gives me a Quadrant of 3000 at 1Ghz
Sent from my Expensive Magical Brick.
Brainmasters MIUI is my fav. No reboots no signal loss when installed clean.

You could go stock deodexed, zip-aligned and with newest radio. You could play with kernels for BLN, Voodoo, and OC. Stable but with a few goodies.

Hi guys,
I decided I want to flash an ICS rom to my nexus S.
Question I have though, is what will work for my phone, which is a 9020A (AT&T) and what rom would give me the closest to stock ICS like what OTA ICS would be?
I was thinking cyanogenmod 9 but I have used CM7 and remembered it being sort of a hassle...
I really want the facial unlock feature if possible. I don't know if it's native in ics or what but I want that.
Tell me why you think the rom you suggest is best, please. I want to know what the pros and cons to it are. And links would be really nice!
Thanks!
stock ics
I'm happy with the stock 4.0.3, I tested Peter Alfonso nightlies lately but I was annoyed by his adjusted auto brightness however it seems to be very popular and smooth and fast.
Stock runs great on my i9023 and there are no killer features in any stock like rom yet imho. But I'm using a custom kernel which is imho always better than the stock kernel.
edit: face unlock is useless since it recognizes nothing and is less secure than a pin or a pattern
Im using the same model phone as you are and running cybergr ics v3. Its by far the best rom so far.. try it, he has alot of extra features.. daily rom. In a couple of days v4 is coming out.
I just flashed revolution HD 4.2.3 this morning with speedy 4 kernel and this is definitely the best combination I've used so far.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
I still use the DrewGaren ROMS, they are plenty fast and stable, along with the latest Glados Kernel They seem to give me the best results.
Stand corrected. cybergr ics v3 is a really fast ROM, probably the fastest i've ever seen my phone, just need to update it to v2.8 Glados
Face Unlock is a cool feature. Unfortunately, our front camera is too bad to properly recognize faces. If you get lucky - in good light - you might be able to unlock it, but it really is no fun at all.

Looks promising. I will try that if I can't find a way to get stock ICS on the 9020A...
Might even try it anyways. Thanks!
Hey please let us know if you do it! I am new to all this rom rooted thing and need to know which rom will work with my i9020a since I am a bit of a rookie!

Works great. No radio flash needed. Install went smooth aside from a few derps on my part. Rom seems a bit laggy but I think it's just because it's reinstalling everything. other times it's blown me away by how fast it is. Face unlock works pretty well. love the interface. I can't believe it's android, its awesome!
I've tested almost every ICS rom's available and right now KANGY6 with MATRIX v14.5 CFS it's the best combo for me.
i'm getting 3000+ on Quadrant with 1.46Ghz OC
You may try the CYBERGR ROM it's also very stable and fast.

ok, I dun goofed. I think I restored a system app on accident thinking that it would restore my messages or something... but my mobile data quit working when i restored that stuff (multiple restores, but thought i was just restoring user apps not system). any idea how to fix the mobile data without re-flashing?
Edit: Fixed, but lost my conversations in my messaging. Oh well. At least the android gods love me again. Anyways this rom is great, it works perfectly! So smooth!
