So I just got my phone today, rooted and installed the Viper rom. Then I installed the blackout kernel. It installed fine but it wont start up anymore. The phone won't go to bootloader or anything. I tried the 10 second power +volume down, ill get the screen that says htc one s this is a development phone and thats it. it turns off after that. When i plug the phone into a charger the light doesnt come up, i tried to use fastboot from my computer but it can't find the device since its not in fastboot. what should i do?!
This is odd. Even when you try turning the phone on with the volume down button depressed you can't get into bootloader? I've always been able to get to bootloader so this one is a challenge. I would make sure you have enough battery life in your phone too. Even if you have kernel issues you should still be able to make it back to bootloader. It should pop up instantly without any other boot screens. I imagine you can't see your phone from your computer with either adb devices or fast boot devices?

Are you sure you flashed the right kernel? I know quite a few Blackout kernels.
You did flash the boot.img, right? You can try flashing it again. If nothing works, try an RUU, or let the battery drain.
Are you sure you're trying to go into the bootloader the right way? The trick for me was to hold down only the power button, then once it goes off, hold down the volume down and the power button.
I remember the time another person had a similar issue, and managed to get in after about 30 tries.

Go into fastboot in the bootloader. Then type fastboot flash boot boot.img in your Windows command prompt.
You should be able to extract the boot.img from the relevant zip file of your custom kernel. Then put that file (assuming its named boot.img) in the same folder as fastboot.exe

I bricked thu a bad flash. Normal unbrick wont work due to my volume buttons not working. I tried to just reflash the stock rom but it keeps telling me the battery is less than 30%. I let the phone charge for a hour or so so i doubt that is the issue. Ant help would be great thank you.
So you are not able to get into clockwork recovery at all? Or you cannot even get into hboot? where are you trying to re-flash the stock ROM then?
i was trying to update my coredroid rom, i cant get past the white HTC screen
SO you cant get into Hboot?(power+volume down hold)..thats before any Htc screen...
If you can then you can get to clockwordmod recovery...
If you cant get into hboot, then if you had debugging enabled perhaps you can get to hboot through adb commands?
If you can never get to hboot then I think youll have to download the RUU build thing and redo everything.
Maybe you should elborate more and check your spellings if you care so much about being bricked, lol just saying.
If I hold power and vol down after reinserting the battery all I get is the white HTC screen. I have tried the RUU build and it tells me my battery is less than 30%. I have also attempted ADB commands with no luck. I was however attempting the ADB thru Droid Explorer. Sorry for the spelling issues in my first post. I also don't get the initial spurt from the vibrator motor.
If you were just updating the rom you should in no way be bricked. Worst case your system partition or something is screwed, but this wont result in a brick. Take out battery, let sit for about 5 min. FIRST Hold volume down, then press power(hold both until you see hboot screen). If this doesn't get you into hboot, something is seriously wrong, not even a bad flash should corrupt that.
You need to get the rom.zip from the. Temp folder of your PC(when the Thu runs for a min, you can grab the rom.zip it uses), rename to PD98IMG.zip(or whatever it is, can't remener off top of my head), and get it on your sdcard. then hopefully you can get into bootloader and you should be good.

Your volume buttons are broken, or unresponsive in h-boot? Two very different things.
M volume down button is broke. That seems to be the issue of me getting going again.
if you are using a older version of cwm, you should be able to plug the phone in while it is off and it will boot into recovery.
do you have the android sdk installed on your computer? you can always adb reboot recovery.

ARE you completely sure they dont work??they didnt work before too??or just now?
Make sure you press both at the same time, and HOLD IT and wait....
That happened to me when I rooted, I thought I bricked it, but I wasnt holding it down too long and kept pressing them at different times..

Only if it boots far enough for adb to see the phone, which a lot of time it wont if its soft brickd, so you have to be able to get into hboot manually.
The vol buttons were broke before this happened.
My buttons on the inspire 4g do not work anymore for some reason and I want to flash a ICS rom. I rooted the phone a long time ago when I first got it so I was just curious to how I would flash a rom without the buttons working. Also do I need to do the ENG-Off to use a ics rom?
Just an idea. You could flash clockwork recovery touch using Rom Manager premium. Then u wouldn't have to worry about the volume keys.

Don't install ENG S-OFF, you don't need it and if your phone was shipped with gingerbread you will eventually mess your hboot up.
Just look for the 4EXT recovery in the Desire HD forum. That is fully touch and amazing. With a touch recovery you will be able to flash ICS.
I went to reformat the sd card in settings and then it said it will shut down after then it shut down and wont come back on but the orange light is blinking. I took the battery out and put it back in. When I push the power button it vibrates then just the orange light blinks nothing comes on.

CONGRATULATIONS....you have messed you hboot up....I told you not to flash eng S-off....
So I am guessing when I rooted months ago I did do s-off which you are saying is my problem. I tried to use advanced ace hack kit to set s-on and flash stock. It detects the phone then right when I selected to flash it restarts it then keeps waiting for device. Is there anything I could do to fix this problem? I been researching but can't seem to find anything.
You should try to use the adb package to boot into fast boot. See the effin manual and the hack kit thread for more info. Once u can get into fastboot see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396229
for stock RUU. It's happened to me a couple of times but my volume keys were working so u may need to do more research. Good luck.

He won't be able to flash a ruu. His hboot is messed up. He has to fix it first. Your hboot is in super slow motion. To boot in hboot will take you about 15 to 20 minutes....just go to the hack kit support IRC channel and we will try to lend u a hand.

I don't believe he messed up his hboot. He just can't get into it because the volume keys don't work. If he has the HTC drivers installed and is getting connectivity then he should be able to boot into fastboot from cmd then flash the RUU.
adb reboot fastboot

I am able to use a pen and push down the button and try to get into hboot. The light turns green and screen lights up but still is black. I would appreciate the help on fixing the hboot I will join the irc soon. By letting the battery darin I was able to plug it in and get it to turn on so at least I have a temp first to be able to still have a usable phone. Also the fastboot does not work adb recognizes the phone then once I press Y to flash the ruu the phone restarts and gets stuck again on flashing orange light
I know this title comes up a lot but I can't seem to find my problem.
I wanted to go back to the stock rom and I used the proper RUU but totally forgot to use the S-ON tool before hand. It installed successfully but now I get a solid amber light and so far I got my inspire to boot once only to get stuck on the splash screen with it vibrating non-stop.
And now it just vibrated once, went to a black screen and then shut off. I really don't know what to do since I can't even get to HBOOT nor will the computer recognize it.
I've done numerous batter/sim card pulls as well as clean them out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Have you tried booting into the bootloader and doing a factory reset?

I think he was referring to the bootloader as HBOOT. I had this problem while rooting my sisters Inspire. Might be a corrupted bootloader.

Last I remember my bootloader was TWRP which I guess I had accidentally installed somehow. If you think its a corrupted bootloader how would I go about solving this, if there is a solution?

It seems that the RUU you flashed was a Froyo one and your phone was running GB so you messed the bootloader. Hit the Hack Kit IRC channel (is in the OP thread) and we will lend u a hand to fix that....
Alright so I went to the IRC and they told me they couldn't help because it did not deal with the hack kit, fair enough.
I have been able to get the phone to boot after waiting for about 10 minutes but I cannot get to the bootloader. I tried rooting the phone again this way I can turn s-on then flash the stock rom again but the phone ends up not being detected half way through the process.
I really don't know what else to do...
Forgot to mention, now my inspire boots but then fades to a greyed out screen. My computer recognizes the phone as something occupying the usb port but is not accessible. Wish the phone had a physical reset button somewhere that i can poke with a paperclip...

I will get back on the IRC this evening when I get home from work thanks again!!!
Does it say anything about QHUSB_DLOAD USB device being connected?
I ran into a similar problem not too long ago, immediate vibrating followed by a solid amber light and no phone activity (nothing on the screen at all). I knew I had a backup in Recovery, but I couldn't even get into recovery.
In order to work around this, I did the following steps.
1. Deleted the PD98IMG file from my SD card (so I could get to recovery once I made it to the bootloader).
2. Take out the battery, then put it back in.
3. Plug in the phone, and let it sit for a few minutes.
4. Start into bootloader (hold power + Volume Down)
Now, in my case I was just trying to get back into recovery. if you don't have a working recovery, or no ROM to flash, you'll want to grab a few RUU 's to try from the bootloader. Try stock GB first, then try a stock Froyo just for the heck of it.
Hope this helps! Good luck to anyone else that's stumbled into this problem.
side note: I've also heard of this "power problem" occurring to other people without bootloops or screwed up bootloaders: which is solved by doing steps 2 and 3, then it'll boot up normally.
help
im having same issue i have gb stock and i accidtly did froyo ruu phones power bottun does nothing i have to plug it into computer and it will get solid amber light then eventually it either brings up battery charge icon and then if i press power button or unplug it. it just shuts off the i plug it back in and wait sometimes white htc screen comes up and it vibrates for a while then boots ad works like nothing is wrong but i cant flash gb ruu when i try to do that or re root and go to recovery to reistall ics that is on my sd as soon as phone restarts during process it doesnt reboot then i have to go threw whole procss of trying to get it to boot back up

im new to this site but i did exactly what you said in your post and now my inspire wont reboot unless i go threw a few hour process of plugin my phone in and i get solid amber light for like 5 min then a battery charge screen comes up then i have to unplug my phone and plug it back in the last time i did this it took about 8 hours of tryin until it finally got amber light for like 5 min then started vibrating for a min or 2 then it booted up and its bin workin fine for like a week now ive tried to reflash gingerbread ruu ive tried doin upgrade from my phone and tried reroot but as soon as it shuts down to start upgrade my phone is off and wont reboot
So I goofed, pretty big this time.
I was running CM9 Alpha 5 and decided to take another shot at CleanRom, I read through the beginning instructions and saw it was a straight forward flash in recovery.
I however didn't see that if I was using CWM there would be some major issues.. HEEEE wasn't lying.
The phone bootloops only getting to the initial HTC screen, the loading bar doesn't even load up then power off then repeats. What's even stranger is it won't turn off unless I plug the usb cord in and fiddle with it for a few mins. I figure if I can get back into recovery all should be bueno. Just how might I do that? I've tried getting to recovery from the phone itself and tried hooking it up to a PC that will see the device, no such luck. It makes the notification on the PC that a usb has connected then makes the disconnect notification sound and cycles through that till I unplug it.
So is there any saving this thing? Or did I goof so hard its a paper weight?
tl:dr I flashed CleanRom in CWM without knowing that I shouldn't have used CWM. It's boot looping and I can't get it to enter recovery mode on adb. Am I screwed or is there something I can do?
Thanks so much guys, I can't believe I let myself think everything would be peachy when I flashed w/o reading EVERYTHING. Lesson learned.
Happened to me too. You have to relock your boot loader, download a stock RUU for your carrier and return to stock, reunlock then reroot and try it again with TWRP.

Worked like a charm man! Thanks so much!
Some background... The whole reason I was rooting this phone was the volume button was malfunctioning... constantly pressing up. I used the hack-ace tool linked somewhere else and followed the directions. At one point during the install the phone went black and the red light began to blink... in command prompt window it just said waiting for device for a long time. Now all it will do it go into the clockworkmod recovery screen. If I try to restart hack ace it says the sd card is either not mounted or corrupted. Any help?!? this is my wifes phone so I need to fix it fast!

When did you use AAHK? It has recently been retired and the files it needs are gone, so using it now can get you stuck. If you have CWM the phone was either S-Off or bootloader-unlocked at some point. Which is it?

Thanks so much for the quick reply! IT had no rooting done before today, it had gotten a little ways into the rooting before it quit... That must be how CWM is on there. It had gotten to the point of HBoot being installed when it quit.

The only thing I can get into is CWM, and it is tricky getting it to run... I think it quit before loading HBoot... TO do that I have to pull the battery and have it hooked up by USB, then turn it on.

Okay, I have the adb installed and went through the process of connecting my inspire with the adb. A serial number came up so assume all is not lost because it installed the drivers for this device.
Where shall I go from here? Once again I can't say thanks enough...
Connect your phone and type adb devices. If it finds a device, type adb reboot bootloader. What does it say?

Thanks for your time last week on this, today the phone booted up with one press of the power button. No idea what happened but whatever glitch there was... it appears to have worked itself out.
Go there and get it set up properly anyway. That should have never happened.
