HTC One X in Japan - Docomo/Au/SoftBank - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello,
I just came back to Japan and I am currently not signed up with any cellular provider yet. (Also I DO NOT have old cellphone sim...)
I REALLY want to get HTC OneX in Japan... Sim Free 32GB International version with Tegra 3.
HTC-S720e-32GB
My question is when I went to Docomo they told me that they will only let me use it if they will find some sort of a stamp... which means that it has been cleared to used in Japan...
Has anybody just bought HTC One X International version in Japan and got signed with a cellular provider without problems?
I know if I had a sim I could probably cut it, but I want to know if I could just go to Docomo and get a micro Sim from them and use it normally...
Has anybody tested this on Docomo or any other provider in Japan?
Please let me know, I've been drooling for this phone and I'm afraid that I will be unable to use it if I buy it... /:
Also I don't understand this whole business with APN stuff...
//
So basically my question is can I just go with that sim free HTC one X to any provider in Japan and get my Sim... put it in and just enjoy my phone... or they are going to refuse to give me the sim?

Because this is for the snapdragon s4 one x. Not the tegra 3 one x.
The place you want to be is named "HTC One X"

INTERNATIONAL ONE X ON AT&T dumb phone data?

So i'm intending to buy an htc one X international edition to use on at&t. I was wondering if i could use that phone on the $10 unlimited dumb phone data plan? I have been doing it with various unlocked phones, including tmobile galaxy s 1, and tmobile galaxy s2. I was just wondering if the Htc one x international, and the At&t edition had the same IMEI? Also for anyone who has tried, does it pull hspa+? according to gsmarena it should, but i just want to double check.

First off, this should be in the international forums since you are talking about that device. This isn't a forum devoted to AT&T, its to the AT&T HTC One X, which you are not purchasing.
Secondly, no, they do not have the same IMEI since they are completely different devices.
And thirdly, I would expect it to pull HSPA+ since I believe it is marketed that way.
Thanks a ton. and sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

HTC One X on T-Mobile

Hi I've got a HTC One X UK Rooted and I want to use this in the USA on the T-Mobile network but the 4G or GPRS will not work, has anybody done the MOD as done on the HTC Sensation.

Just go to AT&T...You will get useless 2G/EDGE on Tmobile(USA). Or you can just sell the HOX and buy a Tmobile phone.

I'd rather keep my Quad core HTC One X and get 4G on T-Mobile but thanks
But you won't get 4G/HSPA with a Euro HOAX, you need the US Tmobile 4G device...Your phone can get ATT 4G though, and ATT compatible phones don't get 3G/4G on Tmobile(hence me mentioning AT&T).

The S4 CPU in the AT&T version of the One X is actually faster and more power efficient than the Tegra 3. Heck, Nvidia has gotten lots of criticism for not releasing the source code (or something like that) for their Tegra CPUs, so I think the best thing you can do is trade your European HOX for the AT&T version (and if you decide to switch carriers as well, you'll get LTE too).

International buyers beware!!!

Hi,
Now, if you are an international buyer and you thinking of getting the AT&T HOX, here is some information you should be aware of:
1. Do not buy manufacturer refurbished. Apparently AT&T are relocking those phones and you cannot get the unlock codes anywhere. Period! I have the HOX and all I can do is stare at it since an unlock code is not available.
I had started another thread on the same here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841609
2. Devs are working on a method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694553
If you are interested, you could act as a tester. Better yet, we should start a bounty for this...
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!l
You could of turned your old thread into this one

Thanks for the heads up!
I dont get what this thread is even really about.
AT&T One X is locked. That is well known.
Why would international buyers be interested in refurbed AT&T stock versus refurb other stock?
The exact same applies for importing brand new stock.
I doubt the typical international user is at all interested in buying AT&T stock new or old. They would be typically buying local stock or from markets known to be open, eg everything else.
AT&T new = locked
AT&T old = locked
That is well known through the other million threads and blogs about it, how is this thread news to anyone? If they didnt find the other million posts and blogs, they wont find this one either...
This thread offers no new info its just a rehash on the fact AT&T One X is locked.
I think he is trying to say that there is no IMEI unlock for AT&T refurbished One X?

why an international user would buy a US branded phone and want to unlock it rather than buying an unlocked model is what I'm struggling with.
Hmmm comparing with international One X, the ATT branded One X is cheaper I guess..

Yeah the at&t is a lot cheaper. Plus for me, benches matter a lot. The quad international version is on the same level as the dual s4 version. And the s4 actually beats the quad in some benches....

The phone known as the AT&T One X is sold international as the HTC One XL in Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Canada and possibly other markets. In Germany and Australia it actually has 32gb internal storage instead of 16gb.
All of this is already in many reviews, blogs, XDA threads and plastered all over the net.
Users would just buy the phone from those markets if they want an unlocked phone.
The AT&T version being locked and only having 16gb internal storage makes sense to why you might find it cheaper.
It is not news that AT&T One X is locked, it has been very widely reported.
If a user confuses what an International One X, AT&T One X or a HTC One XL is they have not done anywhere near enough research to be importing or unlocking phones.
One more thread in XDA is not going to help those foolish enough to have clearly not done their homework on what they are buying.
It's like the users that come in weekly crying because they tried to flash ROM's for the international One X on to their One XL after the huge amounts of warnings not to do that. It's sad that people have destroyed their expensive phone but they are doing it to themselves by being lazy and not reading first.

International One XL?

HI all,
I am currently using a one x and just discover my phone plan does support 4G and looking to buy a one xl to fully utilise that.
I am going to buy a 16GB version one XL in Hong Kong and it should be snapdragon S4 one. Just got a few questions.
1. Can I simply unlock the bootloader from HTCdev then flash a custom recovery, and get everything I want? Like custom roms, and of coz root. I know there's a sticky thread in development and it is somehow messed up with AT&T version and thus looks more complicated. (That's not anyone's fault but HTC and the carriers, I understand) Just want to have a quick check on this.
2. Did someone try to bring one XL to Japan? Did it work with b-mobile (ntt docomo?)? I brought my one x to Japan in May unfortunately b-mobile didn't like my phone
Obviously one xl has a different radio and chip to handle phone signal, this gives me a hope.
Cheers for any advice

1. Check which version of the One XL you will be getting. If it's similar to the AT&T version, you may have a hard time unlocking the bootloader. To my knowledge, it's only the North American AT&T version that is not able to be unlocked though HTCDev. The North American Rogers and Telus versions are able to be unlocked as is the Australian Telsra. I can only assume that the One XL's from Hong Kong are the same as the rest.
2. Look up the specs and make sure the 4G/LTE radio is compatible with NTT DoCoMo's bands. I think the One XL (all variants) have quad band GSM but not sure about the LTE bands. Japan is a sort of outcast when it comes to mobile bands as they use different bands that are usually not compatible with non-domestic phones.

Thanks for the reply.
Regarding the use in Japan, I checked the carrier does provide 2100 band and one x supported that as well, but for some reasons I was not able to register the network at that time, was using ARHD at that time not sure if that's anything wrong to do with that. One XL support 1800/2600 LTE looks like it does work with Japan band but it may just my "hope".
Anyway thanks for the reply again, appreciated.
I also bought my One XL from Hong Kong and mine is definitely not like the AT&T version. It's standard HTC issue
I used the One Click Root method to gain root, spoof cid to get unlocked bootloader through HTCdev, installed TWRP recovery and am now using ViperXL ROM.
Unless you're buying the phone from AT&T I don't think you'll get their version, you should be ok
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
kahei036, you said you were using ARHD, that rom does not work on the phone this forum is intended for. you have the other htc one x which doesn't support lte.
i would call the carrier to make sure the htc one xl you want to get will work on their network. also ask them why your tegra one x doesn't work. are your apns correct? maybe your using a radio that doesn't work well with your carrier?

Tips and tricks?

I just received the HOX as a Christmas gift coming from the HTC sensation I know my way around the phone, I'm just curious if their are any specific things about this phone that are different and new in terms of functionality and hidden surprises? Happy holidays my fellow one x users!

One very important thing first. Please make sure you are aware if your phone is S4 (dual core, aka one xl) or Tegra 3 (quad core) before flashing anything. S4 is att/rogers/telstra (basically the forum you are in). Tegra 3 is the international version.
In the past, Canadians had what were referred to as international phones (gsm), but not with the one xl.
If you look around you will see that flashing the wrong firmware has been a serious problem.
Enjoy!

Yes, I know. I was just saying that a with a lot of other phones gsm is considered an international phone.
For example, TMo had the G2, which was cdma, and the Desire Z was the "international" (gsm) model. So in the past, HTC has a history of just the two variants being categorized that way.

Hmm... As for hidden suprises, not knowing if your phone is the dual or quad core will really mess you up (as said above) lol.
The keyboard is kinda cool since you can swipe with it. That was new to me. It's also suprising how fast the phone is once you put jellybean sense on it.
Gotta use twrp instead of cwm.
Screen is kinda easy to break so don't drop your phone.

Concidering quad cores aren't supported on Canadas network, I know I have the duel core model, plus it says it on the box , as for the screen break, I really gotta go get me a case soon lol

I think you are getting some things mixed up. Tmobile's network has never, ever been CDMA. The major CDMA carriers in the US are Verizon and Sprint.
The G2 had WCDMA, which is in reference to it's data and not the voice network. WCDMA is also known as UMTS and is found on many GSM phones.
Point being, GSM does not suggest that the phone is international by any means. Also, the TMo G2 had a SIM card (of course, this was because it was a GSM phone).
G2 = GSM phone = US Version
Desire Z = GSM phone = International Version
Oh, also to clear up any other confusion, the HTC One XL on ATT/Rogers/Telstra as well as the international One X are all also GSM and all have SIM cards.

Ah, you are right. Thanks for clarifying. Sorry for the misinformation. My bad.
Edit: just deleted all that because I can summarize it in one or two sentences.
Some people have the misconception that gsm and international are interchangeable. I was only trying to address that, esp. Because its been a blurry issue for some Canadian users.

There's not much to be jelly about except the storage amount
More storage would be awesome though... I can only keep two or three backups with 16gb, because they're like 1-2 gb themselves... Anyway, to the OP, Otterbox is a great case, and CM10 is an awesome ROM.

one piece of advice, flash a jellybean rom as soon as possible, it kicks ICS's butt.
Do not upgrade to software 2.20. If you have AT&T and your software number is 1.85, stay there! This was my first mistake and now I have to flash boot.imgs manually.
