Hey guys just a quick question. The fact that there is no reboot option when you hold the power but down really bugs me. I hate having to power my phone off, wait 5-10 seconds, then power back on. Not too big of a deal really, but I would like to have a reboot option in the power menu. Is there any way to do this? I know there are plenty of reboot apps/widgets, but I really want something in the power menu.
Also, probably the only thing I don't like about this phone is that I can't pull the battery out. I thought pulling the battery cleared some cache or some crap like that, and it was something you should do every now and then. Since I don't have the option to do that, is there a certain amount of time to leave the phone off for to get the effects of pulling the battery out? I know I probably sound like a total noob, hopefully someone knows what I'm trying to say, and if I have no idea what I'm talking about hopefully someone can educate me on battery pulls.
One more thing while i'm here. I just updated to jellybean the other day, didn't realize I couldn't root so I SBF'ed back to ICS, rooted, used voodoo keeper to protect root, then updated. Before I did all this I backed up everything with Titanium Backup, but when I installed it on jellybean it said I didn't have any backups to restore. It said it was saving to my SD card, but my SD card isn't located in /sdcard.....its located in /mnt/external1. Is this standard for the Razr HD? Did I screw something up? Seems to me that the SD card should be located under /sdcard.
Man i'm thinking of all kinds of questions. I am in the military and recently got orders to Spangdahlem AB, Germany. Will my Razr HD work over there? I know it is CMDA and GSM compatible, but I don't know much about either of those. Ideally, I would like to sign up for a phone contract when I get over there and just throw their sim card in my phone and be on my marry way.
Thanks!
if your rooted theres an app called quickboot that you can use to just reboot, thats what I do, don't see why they left that out
reboot is good enough, or power off for a few seconds
go to preferences, then "Detect" tell it to search whole device, then you have to press "use this location" or however its worded

Not exactly what I was looking for, but will work for the time being. Thanks!
There is also an app called "power toggles" that will allow you to have toggles in your notification pull down, it has boot options

The SwitchPro Widget (paid) have a reboot button and really a great deal (last button on right). It have a 3g toggle button too and you can place it under the notification area. Try it. Good Luck.

Naturally I bought a g Tablet Saturday and Woot has them today for almost $100 less! Oh well. Big big big improvement from my old FlyTouch2 which was a great idea poorly executed.
Immediately flashed VEGAn with supplements etc. All working VERY well but a few questions/observations.
1) If I wanted to hook this up to a USB or Bluetooth modem (well, actually a BlackBerry) it looks like there is no setup for this? Yes, I know if I could find a way to make the BB broadcast WiFi but its corporate so that's a nonstarter.
2) When I hold down the power button, the menu that comes up it clipped off at the bottom. Is that normal?
3) Screen lock on Kindle software is not getting the accelerometer fix somehow. The trick was to put the thing in portrait UPSIDE DOWN and lock the screen. That caused it to lock it 180 degrees off. But then when it is locked you can go back to right side up (to me, right side up is with the buttons to the top). Of course, if you want to lock it another way you have to experiment.
4) Camera Fun shows camera upside down. No big deal -- again accelerometer I think.
5) Sometimes I am sure the machine is asleep and when I turn it on it is booting from the birds screen. Anyone else seeing this?
6) I don't understand the .nomedia thing although I've read a lot about it. I don't seem to get files erased, but nothing shows up in Video. But if I navigate to the folder (on /mnt/sdcard2) and play videos that's fine. Then later the files will show up in video. Whoops spoke to soon. Now they are gone. What's up with that?
7) My old tablet had GPS but without the external antenna it was worthless. But it still managed to find rough location with WiFi somehow. I assume by figuring out the geographic location of the IP. That doesn't seem to work on this machine. Yes Use Wireless networks is checked in Location and security.
8) What's with the little plastic cover? How hard is it to take out? I don't want a little rubber dingle rolling around inside.
8) In System Preferences, About Device | Status consistently crashes.
9) Does the audio jack support a headset or just headphones? Yeah I know -- I could just try it.
If it matters I'm using Launcher Pro.
Still and all the VEGAn ROM is superb. Compared to the FlyTouch this is super fast, the screen is a joy, and the battery life wonderful. And with the woot deal only about $80 more than a FlyTouch2.
Ok I'll answer some of my own questions:
5) I think this is the unresponsive power button problem. If you press and wait it seems ok. If you press, get impatient and press again you might reboot.
9) No, at least not with a Blackberry headset.
Most of these are answered on the forum somewhere, but I'll give it a shot..

I get this sometimes, too. It is a known issue, and there may be solutions out there... I just deal with it.

Known issue.
These aren't much help (maybe reassurance?)
1) Pretty sure it's wifi only. Have trawled the internet looking for a usb or bluetooth alternative because wifi hammers the phone battery
2) It happens on mine as well, so it's not just you
5) Same here - I just turn it off when not in use now
7) Only GPS functionality seems to come with the need for an external GPS unit
8) Think this is normal
(Re reading above, it looks like I'm negative re VEGAn - this is not the case. It is way better than what came standard and does everything I need it to do)
Yeah I like it too. Haven't tried the others, but very satisfied with Vegan.
Another observation: Long pressing the Menu button (hardware) brings up the keyboard. However, long pressing the menu button on the status bar does NOT have that behavior.
Clemsyns newest kernel will fix sleep issues. Also has some other great improvements too.
Buttons on status bar do not respond to long presses. Home doesn't bring up its usual long press of recent apps either. Funny, i Never even tried long press on status bar keys before now.

I have Pershoot's kernel. I'll try changing. I presume I shouldn't need to clear too many things in CWM after flashing a kernel. Maybe the Dalvik cache?
is there any other way to switch on my XT720 else than using the on/off button? my on/off button broken a few days ago..
U can use OpenRecovery.apk. Options are: Recovery Boot, Normal Boot, and Normal PowerOff. OpenRecovery.
Edit: Ahh sorry, I thought u asked about how to turn it off. U may try turning it on by connect it to the charger. But it works only on ROM that doesn't support charge-mode-only. And i don't have an idea how to do it.
Sorry for that. You might try an app called "button remapper" which is available for free on XDA.
Tell us if it helped you out.
Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that there isn't. Acutally sometimes when I remove battery and then I put it back to go to Bootloader the phone boots itself before I hit the power on/off button, but I think that's because I didn't wait long enough. Other than that I don't see it doing with a program and there is no other hardware option as far as I know.
Just send your phone to repair, I bet it won't cost much.
I think there are two aspects here. Using the power button to turn on the device from a power off situation. Maybe this can be done by removing and replacing the battery, but I don't think it always works. The second part is when the phone is already on but the screen is off/locked. I think that remapper app does indeed work for that. Alternately you can ask the nearest cute person to call your phone to wake the screen. Boom. Your phone is awake and you have their phone number in you call logs.
Indeed, kindly ask the nearest cute person - sounds like a plan!

i think the best thing is to send it for repair... i've tried all of the possible ways to put it to on but failed..
use power manager apps to lock your screen.
Pretty sure the answer is going to be that I'm screwed, but posting here to make sure.
I recently purchased a Motorola Droid Razr HD (XT926) to replace my Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (R800X), both on Verizon. I rooted the phone so I could use Titanium backups, but after updating system data (no apks) I "rebooted" but the fresh boot never came. I've got nothing, notably adb or fastboot (as all the threads I found say to use one of the two).
So is there any hope of restoring this or do I need to get my hands on a new phone?
EDIT: My original sources turned up nothing because I was being too specific. I'm just looking at a generic hard-brick and will need to Jtag it (or a similar service)
Are you able to boot into recovery? No matter what you restored in the rom you should be able to do that. Try holding down both the volume buttons and power.

No, it shows no indication of power at all, regardless of button combinations (I tried every one I could think of, starting obviously with the ones people said should work) or the presence of a USB cable.
EDIT: I have NO idea what just happened. I hit a bunch of combinations to make sure I tried the one above with several others because "why not?", and then wrote the above post. After I submitted, the phone decided to perform a normal boot while sitting on my desk (with some "optimizing apps" that indicate that I must have installed the Xperia Play APKs). The magic touch of techies extended into the virtual realm I guess. I'll flash back to stock using DROID RAZR HD Utility 1.20 And be much more careful with settings restoration.

Ha! I was just about to reply to your unedited post to try holding the buttons longer lol
I had a similar thing happen with restoring settings with TB too, now I just do (non-system) apps with data, sms and call log with no issues.
Glad to hear!
Just as a final update for anyone else who may encounter this problem and stumble upon this thread. My battery was at about 80% percent when I bricked it and it was dry when it came back. So if you are having similar trouble it may be helpful to put it aside for a day or so and try again (Or if you have the tools and are more brave than I am, pull out the battery)
First of all, hello everybody on this community.
I'd been reading on internet how to fix this issue, but no clue at all.
My english is not so good so I'll try to be as clear as possible.
My mother gave me a HTC Inspired 4G, it has many apps and stuffs. It was working fine but it has a lot of apps that I wouldn't be using so (here comes the stupidest idea) I decided to reset it from insight (at that moment I didn't know about the power and volume shortcut).
After I did it, it reset itself then after everything seems normal, I unlocked the screen and then the whole screen turned to black. I could still see the time, date and also open the upper menu, but when I pressed Menu or any button, it just vibrate and nothing happens. Also I got a few errors like xxxx stopped working.
I can manage it to open Config menu, but I can't do much, I tryied to add my wifi connection but when I press the white space to put the password, then keyboard wont display. Also when it used to get stuck on Rethink Possible, but after plug in the cellphone to my laptop I could pass it. Now I removed the microsd and won't need to be plug it for that.
So right now, I can't download anything, I don't know how to fix it or return it the way it used to be.
I don't know anything about root and all those stuffs.
But I learn fast, so any link, tutorial, tips or guidance for these issues, I'll make good use of it.
What I have to do in order to make it work.
Thank you very much in advance.
Do you know what software version you are running, whether the phone is unlocked or rooted, or any other details?
It says 2.3.3 if that what you mean, also I don't know exactly what rooted means but if I'm not mistaken, my cellphone is rooted.
When I turned on by pressing volume and power buttons, I get some kind of options like fastboot and so on, also when I choose Recovery, I get something called Ace Hack Kit, I don't know what's for. I see many options but I can't figure it out which one would help me with this.
It's obvious something been done on this cellphone but I though since I reseted it, everything would be deleted.

What do those options say exactly when you press power and volume?
Whenever I turn off or reboot my phone from the ROM's power menu the system takes a second or two to close apps and then turns off. While the reboot utilities turn off the OS the moment I press the reboot/power off option on the menu.
Are these utilities safe to use as they seem be like yanking the power cord off of a running device?
(I'm on 5.0 preview and the power menu is limited to just Power Off for now, and I'd like convenient options to go to recovery/bootloader, but not at the cost of corrupting OS files, thanks)
thanks so much people, but don't everybody speak at once.

Not really. I didn't give you a useful answer. I didn't know the answer the first time I read the thread. You're right that it needs to unmount the filesystems cleanly when shutting down, but whether that's what is happening when you shut down via the power menu that causes the delay I don't know
I use the "reboot" command all the time though, and I haven't lost any data yet
Yeah it usually works safe enough, but I vaguely remember an year or so back on my N4 it created some problem, and I stopped using any abrupt reboots. Stopping to use those was easy on custom ROMs anyway.
The logic is sound. If there's some file activity going on, an abrupt reboot will cause file system corruption - hell we use safely remove on USB drives too, this is a whole computer.
