[Q] on/off button - Milestone XT720 General

is there any other way to switch on my XT720 else than using the on/off button? my on/off button broken a few days ago..

U can use OpenRecovery.apk. Options are: Recovery Boot, Normal Boot, and Normal PowerOff. OpenRecovery.
Edit: Ahh sorry, I thought u asked about how to turn it off. U may try turning it on by connect it to the charger. But it works only on ROM that doesn't support charge-mode-only. And i don't have an idea how to do it.

Sorry for that. You might try an app called "button remapper" which is available for free on XDA.
Tell us if it helped you out.
Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that there isn't. Acutally sometimes when I remove battery and then I put it back to go to Bootloader the phone boots itself before I hit the power on/off button, but I think that's because I didn't wait long enough. Other than that I don't see it doing with a program and there is no other hardware option as far as I know.
Just send your phone to repair, I bet it won't cost much.

I think there are two aspects here. Using the power button to turn on the device from a power off situation. Maybe this can be done by removing and replacing the battery, but I don't think it always works. The second part is when the phone is already on but the screen is off/locked. I think that remapper app does indeed work for that. Alternately you can ask the nearest cute person to call your phone to wake the screen. Boom. Your phone is awake and you have their phone number in you call logs.

Indeed, kindly ask the nearest cute person - sounds like a plan!

i think the best thing is to send it for repair... i've tried all of the possible ways to put it to on but failed..

use power manager apps to lock your screen.

HTC Touch Pro power on button problem

Hi guys, I find this quite annoying and wish there is a mod for this. I don't know about other HTC Touch Pro owners but i find my fone quite sensitive.........it's "EASILY" turned on by a single "SHORT" press of the power button.
I didn't even hold it for 1 second, if i suddenly press or tap on it really quick, for not even a second, it turns on.
In case ppl don't understand and tell me that maybe my fone was on in the first place but just have the backlight off, and with a single tap on the power button, the backlight goes back on again. I knew that already. But what the problem really is, is that it's totally off, and when i tap the power on button, it turns on, i.e it vibrates and shows the welcome screen and all that other startup animation.
Is there a way to increase the delay of the finger-press on the power button? Coz it's so annoying that it gets turned on when i don't want it to, especially since this fone's weakness is that it hogs battery even though i've already applied tons of tweaks etc to lower the performance and increase battery life......
Oh and i have another problem, i find the signal kinda weak, is there a program or tweak to increase the signal?? Coz on my old phone Sony Ericsson W950i, the signal is great and I never have bad signal problems with it. But using HTC Touch Pro, i have this problem. This only happens when i'm at Uni, but it's not like they have bad reception or signal blockers there like how schools or colleges have. Just that when i'm inside buildings and there're tons of other buildings around, i can't send the txt coz of bad signals and it's bloody annoying, but using my W950i works fine.....
also I noticed that when i type a txt message using the hardware keyboard, it seems to fail to send most of the time, but only when i'm in UNI. But if i switch to the software keyboard, the one that you use ur fingers or stylus, then when i send the message it often works compare to using hardware keyboard.......any ideas?
Problem No 1: Try Touch Lock Pro
Problem No 2: Try to burn the newest RadioROM.
thx but i'm not trying to lock my phone, so i don't think TouchLock Pro is what i need.......
My Raphael turns also on after pressing the power button for a little few moment. With touchlock Pro you can prevent that you mistake your Raphael. I hope you can understand what I write in my "own" english
Ok so i've got it installed now and went through all the settings but couldn't find anything that can delay the power-on button press, I still have this problem. The app is a screen-lock app, there aren't any options regarding to power-on delays.......
plz tell me what settings etc to use.
I've never said that you can fix your problem with TouchLock Pro. With this you prevent to use your Raphael when you press your power button accidentally.
ya but that's only useful when my fone is on and it locks the phone but i'm trying to prevent my fone from turning on in the first place if i accidentally press the power on button for not even 1 second, because then it will turn on and i don't want that.
same problem here...the phone I thought I had turned off was back on, because accidently it got touched by something else in my luggage.
The only solution which to me is unsatisfactory, is to take out the battery so that it cannot power up.
C'mon...there has to be a better solution than this, no???

wow yay finally someone else other than me also report having the same problem, boy am i glad to know that i'm not the only one having this problem, i thought it was just something wrong with my fone and not all HTC Touch Pros....
i can't believe there aren't any results on Google, no forum discussions or solutions to this whatsoever. Also, nobody seemed to report this problem or come up with a solution on XDA as well as other forums i use like PPCgeekz or WMusers etc.........which is odd considering how this problem is quite annoying, that if u suddenly power on the fone by accident, it can drain battery life and god knows HTC Touch Pro has a crap battery life.............
I think that htc has done a bad job testing the powerbutton on the tp2.
There are some other things like weith, thikness and batterylife that could be improved but the powerbutton issue is realy a BIG bug.
Why they didn't make a slidebutton or a timeout between push and activation?
A dobble tap on the powerbutton could also be a solution.
The next rom shoold have a improvement about this button.
People, please react on the powerbutten problem so someone can fix this.
Thanx

Leaving the Touch Pro (Raphael) for some minutes without battery will stop the clock. So, when you put back on the battery and power up the device, the clock will display the wrong time. The time when you remove the battery.
This is hardware related.
Can produced different symptoms though.
Facts Behind the Power Button
If take a look at the inside of the powerbutton, there are 2 points making contact when you press the button. If you press it, the software will recognize this and the screen will turn off.
If you press it long enough you'll get the "QuickShutdown" message.
But, if water/alchohol/liquid gets underneath the button, the 2 points may be making contact, because water/alcohol conducts.
The button is very weak. Due to this, it may not properly work if you have used it for a long time.
As a result, despite the fact that you hit hibernate/sleep/suspend on the hardware power button = yes, the screen fades to black. But IT IS STILL ON. That explains the battery being drained.
Solution:
Open the phone hardware. Clean the power button connector manually.

i heart everyone talking about the sleep of death and to be honest, i havent really experienced this, but i definatley do have an intermitent power on and off button problem on my touch pro 2.
i read on some other forum that it could possibly be the slider that is casuing the problem. but to be honest, the button its self feels fine and looks fineand when i does work it works a treat. i havent had any water damage done to it what so ever. so im not sure , i am new too all this self help mobile stuff. so please excuse my ignorance. Ive doen the usual hard reset, button works for a few hours then calls it a day. soft rest, was working up until this week. i cant get ot to boot up again, while fiddling with the batter and a power lead. but the power button is so intermitent its driving me nuts. id be so grateful if anyone could shine any form of light on this. thanks in advance

[Q] Power Button Not Working

Hi guys,
I have a little problem where my phone's power button will not function in any way, long presses, short, almost embedding my thumb in it, all to no avail. This is doubly dissapointing as I have just installed the latest dexter plus patch to fix the problem. I still had the problem on the previous version and I thought a clean start may fix it. The only way I can get the screen on is to press the media play button! Which of course isn't doing anything on dexter.
Hunches:
I have been playing with a light sensor program and using a 3 second press to turn the phone off, I am only thinking this is related as when I re-installed then turned off the phone using a battery pull, that now the media gallery button will now not work at all, so that is a change.
Second, the power button is buggered. Seems unlikely as everthing feels normal, no big drops have occurred from heights, and the button is travelling in and out as usual.
I have also noticed that as soon as I re-insert a battery that the phone starts immediately, the M pops up as if it is already posting. So maybe it is stuck down?? Again, I don't think so, as the mechanism is working per usual.
If anyone can help it would be fantastic, you guys haven't let me down yet, and this thing is purring, but unfortunately I cannot use it lol. Just my luck.
Thanks in advance
another thing, still not solved
Another thing is happening, the phone screen turns on "after" pressing the power button, it may be once or a few times, and then pressing the gallery button.?!?!
Also, at random times it plays a podcast on my phone, the exact same podcast, and from the start, though the duration may be a few seconds then repeat, or it may go for ages, its quite a rude podcast too which has caused me to throw my phone under the car seat to shut it up when people have been trying to talk to me, as you can imagine its quite embarassing.
There are no services or apps running that I can find related to music, it may happen after pressing the camera button, or opening a website.
It is still going really fast though. And I have also reinstalled the light sensor program so I can turn it on and off without causing damage to the power button.
Thanks again everyone.

please clarify
sure, so the only way I can get the screen to turn back on, after turning off as per display power saving preferences, is by pressing the power button, maybe a couple of times, then following that up by pressing the gallery button next to the shutter button, pressing the gallery button doesn't seem to be working to turn the screen on now, but this combo is.
I hope that helped.
Cheers.
EDIT:::
The gallery button alone is working again. sorry guys.
You might just want to reflash it to stock to see if this resolves the problem.
Yeah I think I may have to.
Before I do., I was reading a post on a different forum where another person was having a similar issue. They seemed to solve the problem by using rom manager to boot to a manual restore menu where there was a button tester section, after using it the power button worked for them. I tried but after resetting it displayed a triangle graphic then rebooted.
Is there any way to do this with our open recovery program or any other utility to test the functionality or maybe reset the button or apply a patch etc.
Thanks again :-D

Getting Frustrating
Alright so I followed your advice on your videos on how to reflash to stock, so of course my bootloader does not show up the same as yours on the video. I can get to the bootloader fine, using the button combo or by using quick boot > bootloader, both have the exact same result, the boot loader screens as follows:
Bootloader Fastboot mode
80.89
and that is it....
Also, my computer using rsdlite does not acknowledge the phone, not omap drivers loading etc. Followed your instructions exactly.
This is frustrating me to no end lol.
I am guessing that because I can get to the bootloader with combo no problem, that the buttons physical connections are working.. At least thats a positive.
Can I flash to stock with openrecovery? Or maybe to an earlier version of Dexters froyo? Other ideas?
Any help would be much appreciated guys, trying to use this phone at work with light sensors to turn off screen is not as easy as they say. OMG....
Thanks so much

The fastboot bootloader isn't the right one. So... if you hold volume up + camera shutter while powering on you end up in fastboot? That's really weird.
Maybe your keys have been remapped somehow? Does anyone know a chord to boot fastboot? Perhaps check to see if your USB port is clean?
Lmao
Just my luck to have a weird problem. I thought it may have been remapped so I have been trying the program buttonremap. It doesn't seem to let me do anything except stop the buttons I re assign doing anything :'(
Does anyone have a proper key mapping file that I can replace with my faulty one to hopefully fix it?
Or any other ideas?
Cheers everyone

Ok installed anyunlock it allows you to use any physical button to unlock the screen. It doesn't respond when the Power button is pressed, it responded fine to volume rockers, gallery and shutter though.
Anyone know if this would mean for sure its a physical problem before I crack it open and try and fix it.
Thanks guys.

Breakthrough!
I am pretty sure I have fixed the problem, I tapped the phone fairly hard on its sides and back, and lo and behold after a battery pull and replacement it didn't turn itself on, I waited, nothing, so then I held the power button and it started up!!!!
But....I have another problem that happened before that, I am stuck in the boot animation that open recovery uses before going into its program (i.e. where you can load nandroid, wipe dalvik cache etc).
I was about to load a new rom, and was in open recovery, had installed it and about to do the reset and the phone turned itself off, and thats when I got the problem with the sticking boot animation.
So just to be clear, I am stuck in a boot loop, but not with the M logo, the restore logo.
I hope the power button solution can help someone else, as random as it is.
If anyone could help me get out of this boot loop without flashing stock that would be great. ( i can get to the real bootloader now btw)
Thanks again everyone.
Solved it all
Just took the sd card out and rebooted. And the power is getting better after banging it.

So, is your conclusion is that the button was stuck and the banging freed it? It doesn't restick?
The Button is not perfect still. Sometimes over sensitive Occasionally it will not even work but it works most of the time. I am just wondering what cleaning solution I could use to free it some more.
It has certainly been a trying problem. Cheers for the help.
Now I need to figure out why I have this strange ghosting on the top of my screen.....

Samsung Galaxy S2 Power Button Not Working
Hi Guys,
Any solution for the power button problem? Current latest Android 2.3.3 Samsung Galaxy S2 also having the same power button problem. Most of the time I can't use my power button to turn on/off the screen (wake/sleep) and there's no menu for long tap as well. Luckily it does wake when i press the only physical Samsung center button.
What i have already tried: Factory Reset, disable Power Saving Mode, Spare Part+ (apps), Screen Off and Lock (apps), and all won't help.
Is there any current updates or patches to allow the power button to work as usual?
Thank you.
take it to the samsung technical centre
Thats if you still have warranty

[Q] Sleep of death on Nexus S

Hi,
My girlfriend accidentally dropped her nexus s in the water recently. I was quick to pull the battery out and put the phone in rice for a good 12 hours. The phone still works as before, except for one thing : whenever it goes to sleep (by pressing the button or by itself) it's over, need a reboot (usually reboots by itself).
Is there something I can do, or do you think it's caused by water damage and therefore can't be fixed? I tried going back with a factory reset, but still the same.
I'm asking this because other than the SoD, the phone works just as before. If I put the screen timeout to 30 minutes it will work just as good before. Maybe can I change the sleep level when screen turns off? Or flashing Jelly Bean / CM10.1 would be enough? (It's not rooted for now, and it's a replacement phone, if I could let it unrooted it would be cool, but if not, I'll try that way).
Thanks!
PS : I can't return it for a replacement, because the little moisture detector is now partly pink. And anyway it's already a replacement for her Galaxy S3 (the power button was not working anymore).
Have you tried flashing other ROM? Seems a software failur to me.
I guess Flashing Stock firmware again or another rom may fix the problem.
Yea download CM10 then in settings under display scroll down & check off the option to wake the device with volume rocker then go to system in settings look for notification draw go in there make sure power widgets is checked then select some widget shortcut option pick the first one which is go to sleep & there your good now you can wake up the phone with volume button & instead of pressing power to shut it off you press go to sleep option in your notification .

[Q] *HELP NEEDED* Alternate Power-off Option?

Hi all,
I'm having some trouble at the moment with my fantastic parents (sarcasm), who force me to suspend my phone, (which is my only internet source), at 7pm each night. However after getting an android phone about a year ago and discovering the Wifi Hotspot feature, this was no longer a problem given that I would just turn that on each night before giving my phone to them and therefore continue to use the internet past 7. Now however it seems they have worked out that I'm doing 'something' with my phone to continue internet usage after 7, however they have no idea what it is, so what they're doing is turning off my phone when I give it to them.
The good news however, is that they really aren't tech-savy at all, so I'm after some simple solution to work around this issue. The ideas I'm needing come along the lines of the following: (My phone is an Xperia Z btw)
---The power menu only has a "Power Off" option, this is what they're using to turn the phone off. Maybe if there was a way to make this option reboot the phone rather than power off, I could then set Tasker to turn on the Wifi Hotspot when the phone turns back on.
---Disable the power button from doing anything? (I would be happy to replace the power button function with a volume button, or even (if the negation of the power button could be temporary and easy to turned on/off), I would be happy to have to connect the phone to a charger in the morning to make the screen light up to be able to unlock it then turn off whatever is used to disable the power button so that I can continue to use it normally throughout the day
---Disable the screen from turning on at all unless some event happens such as the charger is connected for example? (The idea of this would be that when they press the power button to turn my phone off, nothing happens on the screen at all and they think that the phone is already turned off)
---Any other idea you might have. Long story short, I need a way of having my phone turned on after they turn it off or at least a way to trick them or prevent them from turning it off.
A major point to add though is that I REALLY REALLY don't want to root my phone. This will be my last resort option if I really have to, but if you can think of any idea that will solve this problem without rooting, that would be awesome.
Sorry for the 'noob'-sounding post, but I'm desperate for some help on this issue.
Thanks to all of you have read this and are able to offer some advice
-Michael

Why don't you talk to your parents and get permission to use internet.
Or try some black wallpaper which stays even when pressing power button..or anything like that...

Yeah I could try changing the background I guess, but with password locking, you don't need to unlock the phone to turn it off, the Xperia Z let's you shut down on the lock screen
Oh man... is there any setting to change that ' shut down without unlocking' thing ?

Well yeah there might be, but if the screen lights up at all when the power button is either pressed or held which they'll do to turn it off, then they'll know it's on obviously, so if there's no power-off option, they'll just come to me and tell me to turn it off. the idea is for them to think it's turned off not have them know it's on but not let them turn it off
Anyway, thanks for your ideas, the background change is at least a start
Try changing shut down button into some combination of key so.. like volume up + volume down + power key..

to be honest, the idea is valid, and good, but its kinda pointless. why pointless? ill tell you.. what if the phone is powered down? and what if you are in recovery? cant use the hand wave for that, can you? see, pointless(mostly). ive had many phones where the power button has died, and each one i found ways to power on/off without using the button. yes, from a power off state, or from recovery.

yes you are right about if the phone is power down, but there are some cases where it will be helpful if the phone is powered on, so i will say its is still very useful.
I use Smart Screen Off, which has the option Of wave, speak, or flip to turn your screen on or off. I can't even find it in a search in the app store but I've been using it for a couple of years using the flip to turn off ONLY and it works great. I still use the button to turn on. I want a tap to turn on app but can find one that seems tonott drain the battery. Galaxy S3
