Hey guys,
wanted to ask your for some tips for painting the Sensation (the backcover). I probably want to paint it in white and black. But I don't really know which kinds of colors I should take and how I can make sure that the color won't peel off.
Use some car spray paints. If you prepare it properly it should be fine.

clear the surface of any debris with rubbing alcohol or a cleaning solution. spray a few coats of primer onto the case. when its dry, take some sandpaper (start with a bigger grit then get finer as you go) and start sanding away until its real smooth. then grab paint in colors of your choice (might have to do some masking if youre going with more than 1 color), and spray a few coats. depending on what type of paint you used, you may or may not have to use a clearcoat to get that shiny luster. big thing is PATIENCE, if you really want the paint to turn out good, youll have to take your time

This. The end result will be proportional to the amount of time you spend on the job.

i'll definitely try it. If it won't turn out very nice ill just buy a new battery cover. It's really not that expensive...

I bought a second hand sensation for my missus, the back cover is pretty beat up so I bought her a new one and I'm gonna have a go at polishing up the ally and painting the plastics on the old one. Will post some pics if I get a decent result...

Remember that the holes in the back cover are for antennas and micros a think, so be careful when you paint them to not affect the signal strength

This is indeed important because the parts are quite tricky to pull off and if you paint it then the layers make the parts thicker specialy if you use primers/coats and final layer for a shiny effect. And the holes for the sensors are also small.
On ebay there are backcovers for a good price in few colors.
I used really fine sandpaper (1000) for the aluminium for making a chrome look also very nice.
Youtube has many 'how to...' movies which were very helpful for me.

well i had a spare back cover and thought i would mod it. I know some have gone for the polished look but I wanted to check out the painted view so i did a bit of sanding and rattle canned it..i did like 3 coats of paint and 3 of clear. all rattle can for the auto store. here are the before and after look of it. the antennas are glued in with something like superglue so i had to pry it off and you can see some of the damage on them. so not a very easy antenna removal.
.... Mmmmm dude that's not cute at all bro ... It looks like someone rolled over your cover

not really concerned with the antennas...it was the spare cover and had to figure out how to get them out. wanted others to know they are not easy to get off so they can learn from me learning what you think of the paint part?
looks sick other than the damage. nice rattle can job.

Looks good, you should have covered the plastic parts with painter's tape or something.

I think that its cute. My least favorite color is red but I actually like the one that you chose. It kind of looks glittery so maybe that's why I like it. Those 3 costs of clear really gave it that extra oomph it needed. Really nice!
Wow, the unibody looks alot different that it does in advertisements.
This case is good as hell I'm telling you. I've accidentally dropped my XE on the floor many times. and it's still in one piece. With no scratches whatsoever. It is pretty huge but it's a worth it. Despite being tedious to remove and put on, I like it. I'm from Singapore so it is quite expensive here but what the heck.. I recommend this little bugger.
I meant thumbs up... Fail.
I agree. Its an awesome case but it makes the phone a little too bulky.

Hi, did case-mate add a hole punchout for the 2nd Mic above the camera? I know the original design had all the holes covered, so wondering if all holes are still covered by the case.
Thanks

Ah that's good news. I got mine in January and it didn't have a cutout. So I drilled my own hole lol. It's slightly off center by like a millimeter, but whatever.

Take off the outer shell, lay it flat, get a small drill bit, and drill away. Of course you'll need to also cut a small hole in the inner skin with a scissor so that the mic hole is exposed when the case is on.
I'll try to take a pic of the case tonight with my wife's phone so that you can get a better idea of where to drill. Hopefully your hole will end up more centered than mine lol.

Ballistic
I got this case yesterday. http://www.amazon.com/Ballistic-SA0...sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330012302&sr=8-1-spell
It comes in grey and all black. The pictures do not do it justice. It looks and feels solid in the hand and its not to bulky like the picture makes it. i got it from amazon for 18 for the black. the grey is 14. goballistic.com has the full info on the case.

Sandpaper? I think sanding it off will scratch the grey part too? I'm afraid to sand it off as this will result to bad scratches which is more noticeable.
Hard as ass to do, but still doable
Just to say it's possible to change the chrome middle frame bezel.
You can take a look on Ebay : part 170734635327
It's a pretty painfull process that tooks some time considering that part is trapped between the screen and the rest of the phone.
You had to be pretty cautious while removing it, because buttons are attached to it and easily breakable.
If anyone really interests into doing it, I could explain it better and provided pics of what's left of it after removal

Thanks for your help but I managed to sand off the chrome part. I'd rather sand it off than open as I don't have the knowledge to open it and even if I have read something about it, I won't take the risks. Here's the result of what I did.

That looks pretty nice. If I ever damage the chrome strip, or if the chrome look itself starts to fade away I think i'll sand it down to grey as well. Good topic thanks!
Looks very good. But I think it would be even great if you could paint it black piano. Or for white SGS users, in clear white.

I've already dropped the phone a few times and 99% of the damage was done to the bezel. I was thinking about replacing it but this is a much simpler (and maybe even better looking) solution.
well, some time ago i tried to paint frame with auto spray paint can. there is no use to do such work - scratches shown again after two weeks of active use.

sandpaper away the bezel! get rid of the scratches once and for all. or maybe sandpaper it first only paint it?
I was doing some stuff around the house and grabbed some super glue to fix one of my son's toys and stuck it in the same pocket I had my phone in, and I am sure you know what happened next, the glue leaked in my pocket. Luckily the phone didn't stick to the pocket and still works fine but now I have residue from the glue on my phone, does anyone know of a way to get super glue off with out damaging the phone? It doesn't eat threw a finger nail, it was designed to melt finger nail glue, aka super glue. Being a mechanic, I have never Seen finger nail polish remover melt plastic, not the plain old formula.. it's what I would do. Actually, now that I think of it, I use fiber nail polish remover, to get the grease off of my phone, I have the white one and being a mechanic, it gets greasy in about the first 10 mins of my work day

I guess it depends how the plastic was made, certain plastics do deteriorate when you use nail polish on them. Done it before
I usually use armor all personally to get the gunk off my phone.
But if it works it works!

Do not use nailpolish remover. Its active ingredient is acetone, at verying strengths. It will eat through the case of your phone, maybe not completely, but it will ruin the finish most likely.
Idk, try it and see? If you have a white phone that might be different plastic from the grey one.
If you have the box it came in it should say something about how to get it off incase you glue your fingers together.

I tried the vegetable oil (well actually canola oil) and it did seem to break down the glue a little. I thought about finger nail polish but didn't want to risk it. I also used my new knife which is very sharp to scrape some of it off. Between those two things and zagg wipes it got most of it off. I am sure over time the rest will wear off. Thanks guys

Regular is still watered down acetone... It will have the same effect if you hold it there long. The nailpolish remover won't melt through fingernail because your nails are not made out of plastic, not because it's diluted.
If I told you 90% rubbing alcohol melts plastic (usually doesn't), would you try 70%?
Idk, maybe you would. I wouldn't.

They do make non-acetone nail polish remover, which usually contains ethyl acetate. But it also doesn't break down super glue very well. At least not for the amount of time I applied it to super glue.
Acetone won't eat the plastic if just exposed for a short time, but might etch or haze the surface, ruining the appearance.
I see.. guess I've never bought non-acetone nailpolish before.
I once tried to remove a painted logo from my monitor when I was younger using nailpolish remover and it started eating through the plastic after a short while. That's why I was cautioning against it.

Probably depends on the type of plastic. Some chemicals will start to etch or melt some types of plastic almost instantly, but no other types of plastics. Nail polish remover comes in plastic bottles, after all!
Of course if you don't know what the result will be, its best to assume the worst.
Hehe, guess that's true, it does come in a plastic bottle. It would be an interesting experiment for someone who has their hox disasembled to see if nailpolish remover eats the inside of their shell.

I would be more worried aabout the super glue melting tthe plastic more then I will the standard finger nail polish remover. Have you ever tried to glue certain kinds of plastic together with super glue? It melts some plastics. Anyways do whatever floats you're boat. Like I said it didn't melt my phone so yea... Lol have a nice day folks!

FYI - Acetone will dissolve some plastics like polystyrene, polycarbonate, polypropylene. The bottle it comes in is HDPE. AFAIK the body of the One X is polycarbonate.
Guys, try Bio Oil. It doesn't break down the glue like acetone, but it seems to soften it and lift it so you can use friction (fingertip) to remove it. Common sense tips - a tiny drop goes a long way and start closer to the centre of the screen if you can.
You can try pine sol
One thing I ddin't like about the white nexus 5 , is that the sides are made of glossy black plastic , I don't understand why google chose to go with gloyys sides on the white nexus and awesome mate on the nexus 5 sides, the thing is , the glossy sides not only look cheap but they actually are... I baby my phone, I won't even put it on a naked table and I got a ton of scratches on the bottom side of the glossy frame, I'm guessing it's because of the friction caused every time I put the phone in my pockets and every time I take it out, is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

I can tell you that the sides do not scratch from just pulling out of a jean pocket. The plastic is way harder than anything that a jean pocket would have in it unlesss......... you had keys in there or something else. I do not think friction causes scratches but I could be wrong.

yeah i agree man .. i dont know why ppl keep saying black has better material !! whos said that ? it has great feel and have texture on it and its not a sticky hard (like before i get hands on it ) . feel great in hand . its just different material and feel . white nexus glossy side make it so luxury ho u come up with cheap idea !!! if u are not white nexus man , trade it to black one .
i didnt like previous nexus white version like nexus 4 . but
white is really beautiful and harmonic than black . black is not actually pure black and mat make me feel phone has ages on it !
white harmony and paradox ( white speaker phone on front and black camera in back and from back side black button make it amazing . )

bro sure a narrow fit pocket will do that . becuase i am keeping it in my waist bag (im not sure what it called in english ) and not naked . in soft guard in there or in my coat pocket and ofcourse in that soft thing . for me white is great but it need attention more than black .
i recommending u to use bumper case while u are gonna put in your pocket .
I've had 2x White 32gb and both have had screen issues (1 had dead pixels & the other had terrible screen bleed), and one of them the bezel cracked near the sim card slot. I have also had a T-Mobile version in black which was flawless. The bezel thing is real and is something I noticed after a few days of use. I baby my phones; spigen crystal armor and ultra lite case since day one, and there is still marks from taking the case off and on. Google finally owned up and replaced my white one for a black one.

They replaced your phone because you complained that the sides scratch too easily ?

If you read my post it clearly says both white 32gb had screen issues. An agent made a statement that I should have been able to select black as a replacement and promised to get it fixed. Corporate office finally approved it after calling their HQ and having the calls reviewed.

Sorry , I'm still sleepy :banghead: , I wouldn't have thought that switching to the black version would solve your screen issues , maybe the white ones you had were from a bad batch
