So let's look at what we have now.
Droid DNA without microSD but has wireless charging.
J Butterfly with microSD but no wireless charging for Japan
Butterfly without microSD and no wireless charging for China (X920e)
and now we have another butterfly which has a microSD slot but no wireless charging and this one is most likely the international version. (X920d)
I never thought of all the differences between the different variants of the Butterfly. I just thought the only difference between them was the microSD slot.
Japaneese version is the best
Wireless charging isnt good thing at all.
Japanese version = water resistance, microSD, soft-touch plastic rear panel.
Euro version = no water res., microsd, no soft-touch plastic rear panel.
DNA = crap...LTE is plus...but too tiny.... better use 3G and have water res and microsd (16+64gb microSD)

ok
the diffences are more subtile than that.
the DNA and the X920e (not actually referred to as the butterfly) are 1:1 analogs
the wireless charging is in the backplate, and can be enabled. other than the backplate and Chinese software, it is 100% the DNA.
the j butterfly is also the same phone, but with 2 differences (back plate, and SIM board) the sim board is the external interface board, has the camera, sim card, ant, and others. their backplate is larger at the top to accommodate the sdcard mounting location, (and moreso the access door)
I have not seen the butterfly (non J) but it seems to be the J butterfly with english software (multi ling)
most of this info is from teardowns....
and yes it the parts are sourced, it seems we can get a SDCARD on our phones.

they all are water res, they are all glued and sealed togeather, the wireless charging is within the standard, and "easily" increased by 25% (or more, haven't done the #'s for more than ~25%)
the soft touch doesn't matter if you use a case. - but i agree, I would have liked more options.
LTE is awesome, don't hate a phone because it has it and you cannot get the service.
so the global version will have the wireless charging or waterproof..right? Also the site mentions sd card upto 32 gb..just wanted to know if we use 64 also will it work?
Btw this is great news best of both worlds in global version.

they are all "waterproof" better term is "splash-proof"
by what i see, it is NOT Qi compatible with stock cover.
64 may work fine...
did you know, the DNA is global? but the butterfly doesn't have LTE.
so really, IMO a modded DNA is the best of both worlds.

I'm so confused, people are saying different things. I know the J butterfly is for Japan only but I've read in many threads that the butterfly is only for China and there were no plans yet to bring it to Europe. Is that accurate?

Yes and no. The Butterfly HTC posted to their worldwide site is quad-band GSM with 850/2100 HSPA which means the specs are for a phone that would work in China. But the Qualcomm radio (sames as in the OG and N4) is penta-band capable so activating the additional bands is just a matter of s/w. It would seem odd for HTC to add the Butterfly to their global site (in English) if they only intended to sell it in China. So it could be sold elsewhere and all they'd have to do is update the radio and specs on their site or it may only be sold in China. I wouldn't go solely off the info provided by various HTC offices in the EU as they've been wrong before.

I don't know what network or device you've used on HSPA but I typically get 5-7MB down.

It's a sure thing that the additional bands could be activated?
Or did they actually change the modem? I'm sorry if I said it wrongly, new here =x
Seems odd...
Since It says Dual-Band 3G I think it's not meant for Europe. I think htc will release a real global/European version at MWC 2013 in Februari like they always do. They still have 2+ months so maybe we'll see sd-card slot, wireless charging, better battery and water-proof And if we are really lucky we might see a tegra 4 (probably not but I still hope so ).
Didn't we already know this??
When TheVerge covered the J Butterfly for the first time, didn't they mention that battery and microSD card slot? What's the surprise?

I was wondering seen as how we have an external antenna couldn't you build something that attaches to it and improves phone signal or make a cantenna? Any suggestions on how to do this?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
I don't know how much help this will be but I love the DIY spirit so here are some of my ideas.
Connecting to the existing antenna array could be achieved by attaching wires into the existing contact points in the back plates, then route through the camera lens opening out of the phone. The wires will have to be thin so that is something to consider. i.e. more fragile at longer lengths.
The new antennas could be based existing off the shelf parts or from existing DIY projects for each respective technology, but AFAIK you cannot use a single cantenna type device. Due to the different frequencies used for WiFi/Bluetooth vs. GSM vs HSPA+. I am unsure about how many you will need as a minimum or if there are special power requirements between the different technologies involved here.
Power will have to be another consideration. Not 100% certain, but I believe to get these "super" antennas to be truly super, you will need to increase the power to them. This will of course lessen battery life. So that would be another consideration. This mod might spawn a separate battery mod/swap.
I am not sure if this is cost effective or not, but DIY doesn't always consider cost. Of course if you are planning on using this to power some autonomous super killer robot, that can record in 1080P, and stream back live VGA video using the hardware built into the phone this could work out pretty well.
What if you somehow took gold wiring like on the connectors, attached it to the connectors and ran it along the inside of the back cover?

I think the one above the camera hole is for wifi because I saw a youtube video of a guy that took some tin foil and stuck it in the hole on the phone where that connector would make contact and it gave him a really strong wifi signal. He took out the foil and the signal dropped. So I'm thinking that the connector on the top is wifi. The strange thing is I also have an unbranded euro/asian sensation and it has one less connector than the TMO us one (but uses the same mobile bands/radios) and when I use that cover on my US sensation there is no signal difference. So I really wonder what that extra one is for, since I have noticed no signal difference when using one over the other on the US phone.
Hey guys Ive been giving this some serious thought and here are a couple of my ideas on this....I am looking for some serious Beta testers for my ideas, there is no money compensation for testing just fame and prestige......PM me if your intrested in beta testing for me..hurry I have a feeling a lot of people are gonna want in and space is limited.

Maybe T-Mobile uses AWS bands for HSPA+? I'm not sure if that's even possible, but I don't know much about that stuff.
Anyway, I believe the antennas are:
Above the camera: Wi-fi
Below the camera: BT? (correct me if I'm wrong)
On the bottom cover: Mobile network
And @joemm Lmao!

No, My Asian sensation has the same bands as my tmo sensation. It has the AWS band and gets the same download speeds as my TMO version. If it wasnt the same bands I wouldnt even get 3g, I would be stuck on edge. Tmo's 3g and 4g(HSPA+) run on the same frequencies. So if you have a phone that doesnt have the AWS band and the phone supports 3g and 4g you will only get 2g speeds. I believe All the the sensations first released had the AWS bands. I think only now are they starting to release versions with different bands. I know a while back a sensation passed through the fcc with att bands. Maybe those are the ones we are seeing popping up on Bell now?

Hmm, not sure how good this idea would be, but it's worth a shot
I'm thinking as the antenna has to be of a specific length to work, this length is determined by the frequenzy of the signal
Here is some examples : http://www.air-stream.org.au/wavelength

I have a new back cover coming and I might due some experimenting with the old one.
ive stuck tin foil in the back of it touching th ebottom two connecters and ive never suffered from death grip since , going on 2 weeks now :0
It should be possible if we could get a flexi pcb that we stick inside over the exisining connections and route outside and fold around that sticks down. I dont think we need more power, just a increased area. Should be easy to do.

any one knows of a good cases for it?
Plastic looks really cheap in comparison to Newman N1/Freelander i10 for example. I'm not sure if I will make mistake by trading my Freelander for this one. B94M has bigger screen, 2000 mAh battery and 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, but I'm still not convinced I'll benefit at all if I switch to this one...
Any thoughts about any other recent Star products? I had Star X18i, and build quality was very poor. Non aligned screen, dust entering under the screen glass (digitizer) at the top right, poor metallic paint peeled off quickly, and back cover was shiny fingerprint magnet

1. Have you chosen the modrom upon buying it? That one is rooted if you bought from etotalk.
2. I don't think there is one.
3. I bought a leather belt case on eBay suited for the HTC Windows Phone 8x as their dimensions are quite similar.
You can ask more from the etotalk page on the link above and the folks would be glad to answer your questions

Need a larghe photo of B94M GPS antenna
hello
I need your help!
I am the owner of a smartphone B92M which is very similar to B94M.
The B92M model, however, has the GPS antenna and smaller than that unfortunately does not work very well.
Many owners are attempting to build and apply different antenna and the experiments continued with some success.
See: http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/131508-fix-antenne-gps-b92m/
I ask all of you if you send me a larger picture of the antenna B94M so we can reproduce the same.
Opening the shell, observing the upper left, one sees a black square from which it protrudes in relief a strip; that strip is the antenna of thin copper which is located under the adhesive.
I need a small drawing or photo of the strip, can you help?
In this way we try to build an antenna using such a small piece of copper ....

Following the launch of three new variants of the Moto G today, Venture Beat is reporting that Lenovo will be renaming the Moto X to the Moto Z. The company will retain the Style and Play monikers introduced last year, while the Droid devices on Verizon are also getting renamed.
The higher-end model that features a quad HD 5.5-inch display and Snapdragon 820 chip with 3 or 4GB of RAM will be known as the Moto Z Style. Meanwhile, the lower-end device with a full HD 5.5-inch display and Snapdragon 625 chip is the Moto Z Play. The Style and Play names were first introduced with last year’s lineup of Moto devices.
On Verizon, Moto devices will no longer be rebranded as the Droid Turbo or Maxx. They will retain the Z Style or Z Play name and be known as the “Droid Edition”. While it is a clunkier naming scheme, it should help Lenovo with brand recognition as they try to expand their presence in Western markets.
Furthermore, Venture Beat is also reporting that the modular backplates for both Moto Z devices will be called MotoMods. Several are currently in the works, including a battery pack, camera grip with optical zoom and flash, stereo speakers, and pico projector. The devices are expected to be announced at Lenovo’s Tech World event on June 9th.

Moto Z Force Specs
The Moto Z Force is technically the “flagship” high end smartphone from Motorola this year. Featuring a much bigger battery with even faster Turbo Charging (Quick Charge 3.0) a better camera and other changes we’ll detail below. Here’s the rundown.
5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display (Shatterproof)
Quad-Core Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM
32/64GB storage with micro-SD expansion
Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
21 Megapixel Rear Camera with Dual LED Flash, auto focus, phase detection focus, OIS
5 Megapixel Front Camera with auto-focus, LED flash, wide angle
Metal Design with MotoMaker customization and MotoMods
USB Type-C Port with Turbo Fast Charging, and USB-C Headphones (no 3.5mm port)
3,500 mAh battery
3.5mm to USB Type-C adapter for headphones
Water repellent nano-coating
The main difference here is the Moto Z Force has a shatterproof display, a bigger 3,500 mAh battery with faster charging, and a better 21 megapixel camera with the addition of phase detection auto-focus and other tricks. It’s also a little taller and a little wider for the bigger battery.

Not everyone cares about or needs the sdcard capability. I personally like having one for ease of transferring between devices, but I could get by without if I have 64 GB or better storage. I regularly back up my pictures anyway and I can download movies and music again.
Honestly, I really hope the new High end motos won't actually look like that. I hate trying to hold onto all these phones that are just flat slabs of thin metal. They're hard to hold onto, and that chin looks stupid. lol
I agree. One of the selling points for me on the MXPE was the fact that the curved back with the stock silicone backing provides excellent grip and usability for a phone on this size category. Flat metal and smooth plastic and/or metal backs trend to slide too easily in my hand.

True, but as we found out last year with the S6, MOST people do. The large majority want sd cards, and they were the loudest, most vocal, and annoying about it I've ever seen/heard. Samsung will never make that mistake again!
So true. For the most part, Samsung users had always had the SD card slot. The absence was a shock. However in the case of NEXUS devices, the absence of the slot is the norm. As you stated, many complained (including my spouse but won her over with automated cloud backup via wifi). This just shows that nexus devices are not for everyone.
On a side note: My reasons for the MXPE over nexus was not SD card related. I liked the overall specs and size of the MXPE and it was a better bargain for the price. While receiving the latest updates quickly would be nice, it is not a crucial sales point, more so since I'm not a developer.

Would it be worth it to buy the Moto x style or wait for the price to drop even further?

For the price to specs value, it is an excellent buy now. It is hard to say if the price will drop much more if any. Usually price drops are to get rid of stock and if the stock is emptied at current prices, you will never get the chance for lower prices.

OP updated with official announcement.
So, a [hopefully] unlocked bootloader won't be available till after the summer.
No worries. My MotoX is rocking steady.
Moto Z & Moto Z Force Release Date
So when can you get one?
Well, the Moto Z DROID and Moto Z DROID Force will be available exclusively in the United States “this summer” from Verizon Wireless.
Then, the Moto Z will be available unlocked (for most carriers) later this fall on Motorola.com and likely many other retail partners.

AWW crap.
Sadly, the better Moto Z Force will only be available in the US from Verizon Wireless.
Everyone else will need to settle for the razor thin Moto Z with the smaller 2,600 mAh battery.
Motorola further explained that these phones will be available globally starting in September.

Anyone here thinking about going back to a carrier locked phone?
Verizon isn't allowed to lock their 4G LTE phones. However the Droid branded phones may lack the proper radio frequencies to work well on AT&T and T-Mobile LTE.

Not a chance right now. There are enough options out in the wild with more than acceptable specs still. Of course, it will be another year or so before I get around to upgrading again so who knows.

Kind of disappointed... like the curved back design better... and the first round of motomods is not so exciting to see. I wonder if they will keep motoaction?
And anyone saw the livestream yesterday? At one point it's weird Ashton Kutcher walked off stage, like he's not sure if he's still needed on stage or not... In general, I think the CEO doesn't need to be on stage that much if he doesn't have the charisma...
The production values of the presentation last year were far superior fwiw.

Fewer LTE bands and no 3.5 mm jack so just not for me. I could probably live with the USB-C audio (I'll have to eventually anyway) but reduced band coverage is a deal-killer.
.
Looks like we were wrong about the X line
Can anyone who has the pro please confirm if there is SD card support ? It should be within one of the receptacle trays that are used for the dual Sims.
It seems their is conflicting information on the official sites and some reviews of Porsche design variant that share the same chassis indicate there is no SD card slot or support.
There is no SD for the pro variant. A friend of mine got it thinking GSM arena listed it had. Once it arrived it didn't so he is now selling the pro to get the normal mate.

This is what the slot looks like if anyone is wondering, i dont think you can put an sd card in there, as someone mentioned.
EDIT: Picture is from PD version, just checked the Pro and it's the same
Thanks guys, the confirmation is appreciated.
Knew the PD varient didn't have one but had hoped they had just hobbled it with single sim restrictions and that the international pro version would SD storage enabled.
Why can't we ever find that truly ideal phone......
I wonder why the 'Pro' would have a smaller screen, and no SD capability. I was excited to see it coming only to be disappointed.
On top of that, no Verizon capability. I'm thinking of moving over to them. I had thought the international would support it, but no luck.
Sorry, I guess I just felt the need to whine.

I checked Sony xz today and it has a similar slot but an SD card fits instead of the second SIM, that's a smarter design for sure

Yup, I'm returning my Pro. It's an odd design choice. It doesn't seem that there are any advantages to the Pro in the storage department. The SIM cards function the same from what I can tell and the Pro removes the micro SD card slot for no apparent reason.
I think Huawei wanted the OLED (or perhaps even more specifically the curved screen) but couldn't get a decent 6" display and had to settle for the smaller display.

Is the XZ dual SIM like Huawei's? The XZ has cut so many corners with odd decisions though. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Less RAM, less storage space and much slower storage too. Still suffers from poor camera performance, displays need to be improved, fingerprint scanner disabled in the US due to patent issues and poor placement too. Lots of proprietary tech that gets disabled permanently if bootloader is unlocked. Their release cadence of 6 months is too fast as well. They should move to a yearly release and stop making so many blunders and make a great device for once which would mean we get one great device per year instead of two bad ones. But oh well. Their loss, not mine. I'll end my rant here

It has almost the same design of sim tray except for the fact that the second sim is perpendicular and you can place a micro sd instead.
I didn't like the phone overall either, however it's not a bad device at all. For my the huawei pro/pd is much better than any android right now.

The regular Mate 9 has dual SIM and micro SD through their hybrid tray design so that's why it's odd that the Pro does not. Dunno if it's space constraints. Maybe the hybrid tray requires additional components around the tray that can't fit with the 4000 mAh battery and smaller body.
additional storage in Huawei Mate 9 Pro
Really? Just get the 6GB & 128 GB model. You need more space? Buy a USB Type C microSD adapter. I am using a microSD with an additional 128gb to store songs and others.
The news about view 20 can be found everywhere except this forum. That's weird.
Here is the summary of XDA reports about Honor view 20 showcase in Hong Kong so far:
1. The in-screen hole display
Honor claims View 20 in-display hole is 4.5mm, 1.5mm smaller than Samsung A8s's solution. It is somehow a little awkward Samsung's and Honor 's showcases fell on the same day. But I think Honor wins this round.
Although it seems a mere 1.5mm difference doesn't matter too much, I believe that’s a big improvement in the display craftsmanship. Good job, Honor.
I like the hole-punch screen (compared with the ugly notch) and it actually extends the screen to body ratio to a high level, nearly 100%. If 2018 is the year of notch, hole seems the new trend in the coming 2019.
2. 48MP rear camera
It may become the first phone with 48-megapixel camera, powered by Sony’s IMX586 CMOS sensor. This report said this sensor has good performance in low-light shooting and zooming in on photos taken from a distance. In addition, Kirin 980 chipset with the dual-ISP and dual-NPU can provide a better image quality with more details.
PS: Wanna figure out how much detailed can the image be? Anyone can find any sample pictures?
3. Link Turbo
According to XDA reports, this is “an AI feature that allows simultaneous downloads over WiFi and 4G. “ Samsung released similar feature before but I never heard about it.
“Link Turbo also enables better switching between WiFi and 4G depending on signal strength.”
This sounds very powerful but I still feel confused how will it works. So here comes a key point: how much will view 20 price be?
Just check the price of A8s (https://gadgets.ndtv.com/samsung-galaxy-a8s-5759), it is about 29,900 INR, equal to 420 USD( that’s in high price range though).
So I guess Honor View20 may be more expensive than Samsung A8s?
Because with smaller hole and better rear camara (Samsung A8s: 24MP, Honor View20: 48MP), it seems unreasonable to lower the price…
Feel free to share your thoughts and update what you can find about View 20 info below.
I also will update what I find here.
Update (12.26):
The price in China is released!
6GB RAM + 128GB of storage for ¥2999 ($435),
8GB RAM + 128GB of storage for ¥3499 ($510),
the “MOSCHINO” version with 8GB RAM +256 GB of storage for ¥3999 ($580).
What do you think of the price value?

this quote on the XDA page:
Note: Huawei has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloader of the Honor View 20 cannot be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
I was aware you could not load a custom rom with a locked bootloader, but my understanding was you could root the dveice still, can anyone confirm? I don't care at all about custom roms but I can't live without root.

There is still no way to unlock the phone though. I don't think view20 will have it. somebody said Funkyhuawei can help you root but you need to buy the unlock code. I use an Honor 8X but I'm fine to use without rooting as all the specs work well.
Now View 20 haven't released so we can wait and see if someone can find a way to unlock it.
I agree we need to wait for release before coming to any conclusions. But I still think the statement on XDA is incorrect, root on this device should be possible whether its locked boot loader or not. ref: https://www.quora.com/Is-it-necessary-to-unlock-bootloader-before-rooting-Android-phones
Countdown posters guessing
Waiting for the View20 launch in China today.
I Found some countdown posters on Honor Phone Chinese weibo.
One is a big "M" and another is a "T".
I guess "M" maybe Maserati? T is technology?

unboxing video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmyNIiNLkIs
Looks absolutely incredible, I love the way the notification bar lines up with the camera hole.
Also the headphone jack and SD card are great additions (Although Is suspect it uses the lame hybrid sim tray where you can't use two sims and SD card at the same time).

Like the unboxing video! So quick!
It's nice to see they keep the 3.5mm headphone as most of phones have removed it.
I found a detailed review here : https://www.androidcentral.com/honor-view-20-review
I think it has the best value in its price range.

Will it come to US?

its LCD so no AOD and no LED
Hmm, to me, removing, for me, basic features, does not seem like a step in right direction, I kinda like knowing about notifications without having to turn on the phone.
With notification led it would be great phone for me, I think. (currently I have nova3 and I hate that notifications are not shown in status bar because of the notch)

They haven't released the final price for Global version. So maybe we can wait until the global launch day Jan.22.
In case there is any confusion, this phone does support a memory card, it doesn't use the standard SD-card it uses the Huawei made nano memory card. There is no extra slot for this card, the card is exactly the same size as a nano sim card and therefore to use it, you put it in the sim card tray in place of the secondary sim.
So unfortunately you cannot use two SIM's and a memory card at the same time (very few phones these days do anyway).
Great pricing (although it will be more in EU)
the only thing that annoys me so far, is the fact that it uses Huawei's own technology for memory expansion
Pricing has been released. (Not good news unfortunately for global version)
china
6GB model - $405 USD
8GB model - $480 USB
Global
6GB Model - $630 USD
8GB model - $760 USD
apparently the global version will come with a free Honor smartwatch worth $200 USD
