Google play store always asking for password - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
For some reason Google play store is always asking me for my password every time I purchase an app.
This didn't used to happen before so I am wondering if anything has changed?
Thanks

I am also noticing the same and it was not like that before. I am using Jelly Bean. It's annoying when doing in-app purchases from games.

Yeah I am on jellybean to... strange thing is I've been on jellybean for a while and it wasn't like this, it's just a recent thing that's started to happen over there last week. Are you running a custom rom?

Password Prompting?
Yes, started happening on my Nexus 7 and kind of freaked me out thinking it may be someone trying to steal my password via an inapp purchase. Wish we got a notice from Google about changes to the purchasing process.

i used to have that problem all the time. then i rooted my phone and now its good

My tablet is rooted but I am getting it. I was really worried about it thinking it might be a rouge app trying to fool me into giving out my password.
Wish there was some official word on this.

Can't you just deselect it in the play store menu? I can do it on my GN.... If you have kids that use your phone you will appreciate this feature my son has charged some paplinko balls to my account before by not knowing what he was pressing..... that was an unexpected $19.99 charge :/

There is no such setting in Google play store. What you can do is set a pin.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Setting a pin will let you just enter the pin instead of your password- at least it has for me so far

I am the only one who uses my device and its a little annoying. I understand it's an extra layer of security and would be handy if my device got stolen but seeing as it never leaves the house its a bit pointless. Also there is no official word from google about it so I dont know if it is the play store or a rouge app.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2

I'm sure its new addition to play store my unrooted gnex and nex7 do it. You can also set up a pin too

For me it seemed to coincide with my installing of google authenticator on my phone?
I have NOT set up two-factor authentication on my google account, so it's definitely not that. it's not even what that is anyway, which would be asking for the authenticator code, not account password.
This is SO annoying, is there no way to turn it off?

I was having this same issue, for me rooting my Galaxy S3 and deleting my google account from the settings page, and then re-adding it fixed the issue.

Annoyingly this happens for me as well now on the nexus 4.. But not on my n7 or any other android device.
I believe the cause is Google Apps for me, I was a free apps standard customer and have been for years with no problems using it to sign into my android devices.
Then Google decided to stop supporting free version, although leave it running.. At that point I guess they moved it the business platform as the next day my phone wanted me to install Google device policies to comply with my organisations apps policy. (I've never set that up as you couldn't on free Google apps)
Ever since installing that it's asked for the password, strangely my other devices never asked for it too be installed and they don't prompt for the password.
I'll try removing it and see if that helps.

Has anyone else had success with just setting a PIN? I haven't purchased another app since making the change (this morning).
I am the only one that uses this device (Droid Razr - running JB 4.1.2 - "leaked OTA version") and it's already protected with a lock screen. It would be nice to get this turned off.

I must say I really am irate at this new inconvenience google has placed on me. Why did it suddenly ask me to enter in my (secure, complex, long) password EVERY time I want to simply purchase another app? Is it because I've been using my phone in other countries recently (with exotic IP addresses) and it set some red flag to annoyingly nag me every time now, for the password, in case I'm a thief?
NOT GOOD, GOOGLE.
I've set the PIN to replace my password so at least I don't have to cumbersomely load up the lastpass app and go into my google account entry and manually copy and paste my complex password every time I just purchase an app.

I set a PIN and can use that instead of the password.

I set a PIN but it would not let me use that instead of my password...I still got to type out my whole password each time.
EDIT! Sorry I didnt see the option to use PIN for purchasing! hahaha

Email with no Exchange policy?

I used to have a version of email.apk that would allow me to hook into my Exchange email but was hacked to not require a PIN even if it was supposed to. I searched and found a bunch of version for Froyo and Gingerbread and one version for 3.0. Is there a version of this for 3.2?

I use Enhanced Mail on my devices (Phone/Tablet) for work emails/calendar.
The UI is not optimized for Tablet but nevertheless it works very well.
I synchronize email and calendar from Exchange and it all works well. Emails are pushed from the server when they arrive.
Moxier works well and is Tablet ready. Also has a PIN lock for the app itself instead of device lock.

I too use it as my primay email app, both for office email and gmail. When setting up exchange email it gives a option to not enable exchange policies. This helped me get rid of the PIN from unlocking the screen. I also like the unified mailbox in this app.
These apps are so expensive. I think I would rather just enter the pin in.
As a system admin of an exchange server personally I'd be annoyed that users were trying to circumvent security.
Although I don't know the full circumstances you're in, if you have a security policy in place its usually there for a reason. Depending on your workplaces IT policy (and how paranoid they are about data loss) you may also find that doing something like this is also a sackable offence.
I guess your major issue is having to enter an unlock code each time you want to use your device? As another poster has mentioned you can install an app which just uses the unlock code for the app rather than on your device. I personally use touchdown for exchange. It's got an HD version for tablets, works pretty well and doesn't cost that much.
Think there could still be some improvements to the tablet UI (the unlock screen is obviously a scaled up version of the phone version) but overall its worth it. I used to pretty much try to only use free software but have found its totally worth supporting devs by paying a few quid for a decent app.

My interest is in having one program that can handle all of my accounts. I have two gmail accounts, a ymail account, a verizon account, and my work account through exchange. I would like to use the stock program through the tablet (Transformer) but it does not have the security. I do not mind the pin, I would like suggestions on a program that would allow the pin and allow the other accounts.

Um. Or I can post about it in this thread since Enhanced Email ended up being the answer to the question I posted and others with the same question who may have subscribed to this thread may want to know it's available. Sorry to say but just because you posted something doesn't mean others are not allowed to post the same thing in other threads especially when they are pertinent to the topic at hand.

Questions, please help

1. How does one connect the transformer to a HDTV? Is the appropriate equipment in the box?
2. How does one Swype on the UK version of the Asus keyboard?
3. How do I change the speed of animations?
4. Is there a keyboard shortcut for the multitasking button?
5. How do I speed up internet?
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

I can try to answer some of these for you.
1) You need an HDMI cable with one end as a micro hdmi. It does not come with it. Heres the one I use.
2) Go the to the main swype beta home page with your tablet (in tablet mode), it wont work if you have it in desktop mode. Sign up for the beta and download beta.
3) I dont think you can. If your getting lag use the Asus Task Manager widget to kill background apps. There really shouldnt be any lag though. This is one of the smoothest tabs Ive ever used.
4) ??
5) If your internet seems slow I doubt its the tablet. More likely your router, or internet type. I get almost 35mb/ second with mine.
Hope that helps.
Thanks a lot, you did help.
1. Does anyone know how tablet remote works?
2. Would you recommend that one buys Norton tablet anti virus for £50? What does it offer that the free ones don't?
Thanks

You can use right alt+tab for multitasking on the keyboard
You can swype on the main asus keyboard without downloading the swype beta. Im using perfect keyboard from the market however and i prefer it to the stock one as it is split so you can use it with your thumbs
Animations cant be sped up in the stock ROM, but I think the modified buildprop posted in the DEV section increases them slightly (correct me if wrong). On my phone I was able to increase the transition animation speeds using an app called "spare parts" so you may want to check that out
Internet should be fast. Ive noticed its actually faster than my laptop. If by speeding up the speed of connection TO the wifi hotspot, again try using the modified build.prop as that has some tweaks in it.
About antivirus, I wouldnt bother with it. It just slows the tablet and I think its unnecessary unless you are really lack confidence with technology. The same principles apply for the using PCs - if you dont trust something you downloaded off the internet, or from an email, dont open it! I have been without antivirus for years on my home PCs and phones and have never had a problem because I know what im doing. I would suspect that the main reason for antivirus on android is just for the companies to make a load of cash by scaremongering.

Thanks greatly for responses. Sometimes the swype on asus keyboard just doesn't work, I didn't know why. Do you need root for the modifiedbuild?
Also, are there any MS paint like apps in play store?

great help welcome..
As a first time tablet user (3 days), i am actually disappointed with the performance of TF300T compare to my wife's ipad 2. To make it worst, she think i make the wrong choice for not choosing apple... Until i arrive to this forum specifically to the topic below ..
TF-300 Minor tweaks and Speed increase(ROOT REQUIRED)
I think i can gain some respect if i follow the topic but....
In the topic, there are so many term that is only suitable for experienced user which leave me (blob, su, ww, etc ). From the topics, it is said, i can do the 'tweak' without rooting (which i dont really know how to do it) but using adb push (which i dont even know the meaning of it) to make it work.
The only thing is comprehensible for a newbie or noob like me is the result. I can make my tablet better than what i have now.
So, if there are any expert that can help me with the topics, please let me know. Any help will be very much appreciated.
As of why i post this here,
i prefer it to the stock one as it is split so you can use it with your thumbs
What did you mean by that dear Sir. I can split my keyboard like ipad keyboard do?
Thanks again. It is my first post in such a forum and english is not my first language.

What do you want to open it with? If it's a newer powerpoint file, like a pptx (office 2010), it may not play nice with a lot of office suites on Android.

[Q] Lost my phone

Last night, I lost my phone while I was out partying. Im not that upset about the loss, since I was going to upgrade it to a Nexus 4 anyway. The only thing that worries me, is that if someone finds the phone, they have acces to all my Google services, Facebook, etc.
Is there a way to prevent that? A way to log me out on all devices?
Anything that can prevent people from accesing my private information. I had my Gmail, my drive files, etc. on the phone.
Im afraid my lockscreen was on "slide to unlock" aswell. So there is not much protection there.
I really hope you can help me out here. It was a Galaxy Nexus running Cyanogenmod.
