[Q] Help please re. 3 niggling issues on TF700T - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi - I've had my Infinity TF700T now for around 3 months and have been very happy with it - so much so I've been waiting to get the Asus Padfone 2 (although I'm based in the UK so will have to wait longer than most !), however I was wondering if anyone has experienced (and more importantly been able to resolve !) the following issues that have I've experienced intermittently - internet searches have found related items - but no resolution or actual email stating that it's a known issue. I've also approached the support team @ Asus, but have only been told to try the uninstall/reinstall approach etc which hasn't helped.
The device is running JB with stock kernel v10.4.4.20
Would appreciate any input anyone can give !
1) Stock alarm clock only going off once with lid closed
This is a weird one - if I lock the Infinity (using the padlock button on the keyboard) and leave the device open (it's attached to it's keyboard base) then the (daily repeating) alarm goes off without a problem - as soon as I close the lid on the device - it only rings once and stops.
As I thought this might be something to do with power saving, I've disabled all power saving on the device and am getting the same issue. Internet searches have found similar issues on other Android devices which only a reset of the entire device looking to resolve the issue.
Does anyone know of a less intrusive fix for this please ? I'd rather use the stock application that have to download a 3rd party app.
2) I've found that during startup of the device, there are intermittently some files created with filenames similar to the following :
VS38JM6U.000
VS2MQKMH.000
VS2MQKMH.001
The filenames are of various filesizes and I am unable to yield any useful information as to purpose of these files by examining their contents - apart from noting the files are binary in nature - possibly coredumps of some sort ?
Does anyone know how or why these files are created ?
I initially suspected they might be created as some sort of fsck process that Android is carrying out - but I have no way to ascertain this for certain - Asus support have said that the device doesn't carry out a fsck during startup.
I then thought they might be due to a virus of some sort, so installed AVG, Avast, Trend, Sophos and Norton (yes all at the same time) - did a search of the device with all of the applications and found nothing. After further questioning Asus support thought the issue might be due to several anti virus applications being loaded simultaneously, however as it occurred before I installed them I think this highly unlikely.
I have not been able to find any mention of ANY other users experiencing an issue like this on the internet.
3) Stock weather application intermittently isn't able to refresh weather when "find my location automatically" option is enabled
This is also a bit of a weird one - as the title of the issue says - I find that the stock weather app (the Asus branded one sourcing data from AccuWeather.com) will find the location I am and weather several times without any issues out all, and then suddenly stop working for no apparent reason.
I have read that other Android devices have exhibited this issue and have seen various fixes - for me a reboot of the Infinity always fixes it although this obviously shouldn't be necessary ?
I thought it might be due to a connectivity issue with the AccuWeather servers, however if I add the city I am in manually and get the application to refresh it is able to find the weather without any issues at all.
I have tried killing the processes (including flushing the application cache etc.) and this hasn't helped. I read an article somewhere that usage of Task Manager (I tend to kill applications I don't need that are running - not the obvious system ones but Gmail etc. when it appears) can exacerbate the issue and I have certainly found that the weather app can run a lot longer before not refreshing if I don't kill any unrequired apps.
I read a few articles which suggested that the GPS functionality was switched off/not working which could cause this issue, however in the instances where this issue has occurred, I've ran GPS Test and Google Maps and they've been able to pinpoint my location with no issues whatsoever.
Would appreciate any feedback/info anyone could give.
Many thanks in advance.

There are many issues with the stock rom. You may be better off unlocking, installing nvflash, flashing a custom recovery and custom rom.

[Q] Issues CM11_Saga_Flinny_alpha5

Hello guys,
this is goin' to be my first post on xda-developers sure that this should normally be placed in another thread but permissions to do that are still missing.
I don't want to create useless board blowing posts only to reach more than 10 to get the permission to disclose some bugs I found in the current CM11_saga_flinny_alpha5..
First of all I wanna thank all developers for spending there spare time for such great projects!!
Issues I recognized:
1) Apps moved and located on the sd-card will loose the desktop link after reboot of the system as often as I place it onto the primary screen.
2) The current Brower often crashes whenever I'm on for example facebook watching pictures it crashes, reproducable.
3) in options under developer options activating error report doesn't bring any report up for sending via email
4) could anyone please evaluate if downloading i.e. Redphone or Textsecure works within the GooglePlay Store? I can't although it is compatible to android 4.4.2 so I guess that there is a mismatch between the googleplay and the alpha5 permissions
thanks.

Hey
I had the second bug to. I reflashed and wiped cache and co and it was gone. No idea why.
I have Problems wieht the Headphones control. Does it work at your device? I get no symbol in the statusbar that the headphone is in still can hear music and sounds but the thee control bottums of the headset don´t work neither the microphon.
@Flinny and @devilkin
Known/recognized issues on both ROMs:
Please evaluate if downloading i.e. Redphone,Textsecure, WhatsApp works within the GooglePlay Store!?
I can't although it is compatible to android 4.4.2 so I guess that there is still a mismatch between the AndroidManifest.xml and both of your ROMs. Permissions or something like that..?
Calling somebody and than trying to "mute" the doesn't work so there's an incorrect function.
Moving apps located(moved to) on the sd-card will loose the desktop link after reboot of the system as often as I place it onto the primary screen.
Gererating Error Report doesn't work seems to be no function behind it..
Hope you guys will fix these bugs...anyway thanks for your great work on supporting such an old phone. Still love my Desire S
I'm currently using the recommended 20140517—version and am having some problems with mobile data, so i assume this is a bug.
Mobile data in 3G networks works flawlessly, but in 2G networks it won't connect to any site/page or service. Though sometimes I get some incoming Whatssapp messages or push-news-content. Never Bad this problems with stock Roms. Provider is Vodafone Germany.

[Q] Internet issues

Recently purchased and have been liking the tablet besides it's internet performance. I immedietly updated the tablet to lollipop out of the box so I was not able to test it's network on kitkat.
Since using the tablet I've noticed a variety of issues:
1. Opening webpages in chrome is substantially slower than on my phone (htc one m8 running fairly stock sense rom), with longer load times and occasional hangs on page loads that require a refresh to complete.
2. When using either reddit is fun golden or reddit news pro, subreddits take longer to load than on the M8 as well.
3. Slow Google play downloads. I'm not sure if this is just a Play store being slow or truly an issue with my device. Occasionally if i have multiple downloads or updates qeued it will finish one and just sit on trying to start the next one without actually doing it.
I have been having these issues on two different home networks with different routers, different ISPs, and different cities. Interestingly though, when running the Speed Test app, the tablet does better than the M8 and comes back testing perfectly fine.
Any suggestions as to what i can do to get to the bottom of this? Any diagnostic test I can do? Any setting? Has anyone else been having these issues and is this just an issue with the lollipop update?
Thank you in advance!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think any OTA update is a "dirty flash". I also was having many issues that included complete freezing up of the tablet. You having updated out of the box could be different (I had a bunch of apps installed when I updated), but I think most of my issues were solved with a factory reset. ??
I'm sure its a software issue as at school I get 40mb which is alot than my nexus 7, 10mb

Please Help: HP Pro Slate 21 AiO Touch 2 Closing App & Returning to Desktop (Reboot?)

Please Help: HP Pro Slate 21 AiO Touch 2 Closing App & Returning to Desktop (Reboot?)
I've got a unique situation as I use two of these AiO devices as security camera monitors and this has worked fine for months now. I bought two of these and have them in two different rooms and I have IP Cam Viewer set up on each one to display the cameras that I want to view from that room. I also have installed IP Webcam on each one so that I may use the camera built into each one to monitor the area in front of of the monitors. This worked fine for months and I hadn't updated any firmware or anything on them because they worked fine as they were so I had no need to change anything. Within the last couple of weeks I would wake up and both of the monitors would be on the home screen with the apps both closed. I don't know if it's rebooting the entire unit or if just the apps are crashing or what but it's a real PITA since they're mounted up high and require getting a step stool out to reach them each time. Since I started having issues I upgraded the device's firmware since there was an update available thinking it might fix my issue but it did not. I thought maybe a notification was causing the issue (even none of my other Android devices close out the apps when I have a notification) so I disabled the notifications for some apps that default to have them enabled since I'm not using them but it's still happening.
I dunno what to think here.
Anyone have any suggestions to fix this?
Bumping this up & hoping to get some help. The problem still persists and I haven't been able to get any closer to a solution. I've noticed a couple of times now that I will get an error that may or may not be related. The error says:
"unfortunately, com.wolo.service has stopped"
Now, I don't know if this is the causation of the issue because there has been times that the screen going black (from basically a security monitor) has caught my eye and when it comes back on to the home screen (about a second or so) there is no error message. My guess is that this is the behavior most of the time. I just thought that it might be related or help to solve the problem.
To recap, HP Pro Slate 21 running whatever version of Android came on it and I quite literally have two apps installed and ONLY two apps installed: IP Cam Viewer & IP Webcam which I run exclusively 24/7 and nothing more. It worked fine for months where IP Webcam would allow me to access the webcam on the monitors as an extra security camera and then use the display to display 9 of the security cameras as a monitor. Then, without any notice or any changes from me (I wasn't even updating any apps or anything since I had no issues) the monitor crashes several times a day. This requires me to launch IP Webcam again to allow access to the camera and then launch IP Cam Viewer to display the security cameras as a monitor. This works fine for about 1/4 or so of the day/night but then, inevitably, it will occur again.
This is SO annoying from a device that should just work w/o any input.

Original Shield Tablet Freezes When Connected to WiFi

Hi there!
I've contacted nvidia regarding this issue (reps seems oblivious) and posted it on their official forums to no avail, so I'll try and give it a shot here.
Basically whenever my tablet connects to WiFi after being disconnected for some time (a few hours to a few days), the tablet freezes when it downloads notifications. The freezes can be minimal (like a 5 second freeze) or be quiet substantial (it can lock up for as long as 10 mins). Once all notifications are downloaded and displayed, the tablet then performs like a charm. I even got my tablet replaced from nvidia and it has the same problem as the one I sent in. Uninstalling Facebook and Facebook Messenger improves performance drastically, but when my tablet checks for notifications it freezes still freezes for a few seconds (with Facebook installed, it could lock up for 10 mins and crash the launcher multiple times). Running on max performance did nothing. I'm really curious if this is a hardware or software issue since some people doesn't seem to have this problem.
I'm running on nvidia's stock firmware (4.2) unrooted.
So here is my question. Have any of you guys experienced this problem? Were you able to solve it? How did you solve it (did a custom rom solve this)?
The main reason why I haven't installed a custom rom yet is because I use the stylus frequently and I use the touch-block feature in nvidia's stock roms and couldn't find ports of it.
Here is a video of the issue. (youtube.com/watch?v=cJrUPV7mY6s) Now there are a lot of widgets on the video, but I assure you removing all of them does nothing. I tried.
Facebook Messenger. That says it all. What other apps have you running in the background?
This definitely sounds like a software issue to me.
Maybe you're being hijacked. Who knows.
I've had this same issues since I got the tablet (K1). System reset, no non-Google apps. Happens regardless of FW; I'm on the latest update. Don't be quick to blame the OP.
Basically, every time the tablet gets a new network connection, the system hangs and becomes unresponsive for 10 seconds to 2 minutes at a time. It's obvious that it's updating all the apps' network requests. However, the thread priority should make the system hang. I've only seen this issue on the K1; never on any other Android device. Either they're using a custom network stack, or they've messed with networking priorities.
I'm on the latest update

Of Facebook Messenger? Or OS? Or all apps?
Either way, it makes no matter no such issues on Lollipop. I am just saying.

S7 with custom rom(s) and Xposed - Internet connected apps breaking

Hi all, long lurking rom-installer who can self-fix most problems here. Got a problem I can't fix that's bothering me. Recently upgraded to an S7 so naturally rooted it on day one and been trying to get it my-kind-of-working fully ever since. I do like to bugger about with things in a vain attempt to shield some private data from some orgs and realise I'm in a particularly specific hole that I'll probably have to climb out of on my own, but if you don't ask...
Internet using apps pretend to work, sometimes for days, then just refuse to open. Screenshot example of the second and persistent error (after simply "Lightning has stopped" the first time) is attached.
Model: G930F
Current ROM: ambasadii 7.0 TW Nougat (here)
Xposed: 88.2
Root: Magisk
Significant mods:
1) use xPrivacy
2) disabled significant number of remaining packages using Package Disabler Pro (list attached)
3) run Orbot
4) run AFWall
5) modify app permissions in Settings/Apps to restrict where I think I safely can
6) run BackgroundRestrictor
The behaviour still emerges even if I don't apply 4), 5) or 6), it has started prior to me finishing my tweaking.
I know xPrivacy is not supported for Nougat but it seems to work ok for the most part with some retweaking of settings since moving from Marshmallow on my old phone. I understand it could be the cause of the problem but I'm wedded to (some of) my privacy enough to persevere before abandoning it. For the record I've checked the usage log for restrictions on any calls around e.g. internet that might be interfering but I've been unusually generous with permissions trying to fix this and there's no restrictions on any apps with internet access around that, or much else really at this point. I've also had a look in general usage log rather than app specific, looking for system components that may be working alongside the app and failing with a restriction but can't see anything being denied. Any system apps haven't been touched by me, I fetched what I could from xprivacy crowdsourced restrictions on the base ROM apps and then only applied my template to apps I've downloaded myself.
Some other background on the problem: everything will be set up as I like it - ROM installed, debloated, all the rest of above modding applied. It will be working super-fine. Nice and fast, little bloat left, just enough Google to get Play Store, apps installed and working, all will be and appear fine. After an undetermined & fluctuating length of time all of the internet-facing apps will suddenly not open. This includes but isn't limited to the Browser (stock and Lightning, Brave, Pale Moon, etc.), Twitter, Signal and the Official TWRP App.
Interestingly, internet-connecting apps that will connect on demand but don't seem to make a call on every app open (mostly due to prior settings changes) do not fail. They will still open fine and work fine, connecting when asked and not crashing. For example, K9 Mail and Pocket.
Another weird data-point: Signal will fail but will often do so later than the other internet-connected apps - possibly it has a token with GCM or something that when it expires will try to renew on app open which is when it starts to fail like the others?
The apps will work again if uninstalled and reinstalled but once the behaviour starts again, and it will, it will repeat. Sometimes twice or more in a day. So reinstalling every time is not going to make for a usable phone. It's like they have an error renewing their wifi lease or something.
It can take up to three days to begin - this build it worked fine for days whilst I was away and slowly, progressively building the system back up with regular TWRP backups. I can restore a TWRP backup from about 6 hours before the problem started and it'll work fine again, but still wait a random amount of time before the problem begins again.
I did think it may be something to do with the router here and home WiFi as it behaved much better whilst away and didn't break until my return, though that is likely coincidence. I'm in pattern-observing mindframe so false positives are everywhere. I thought it was connecting to the PC via USB that was doing it at one point.
Last data point: it's happened with a different base rom too (Decent here), same thing, but came on sooner each time. I would change the base rom again to see if it's something there but I suspect that should be one of the last things I try given it's happened across two roms now.
Anyway, if anyone has any insight on Nougat TW ROMs on an S7 with this kind of set up and/or any clues or ideas as to why internet connects would suddenly be crashing all these apps... I'd be grateful. Otherwise I have many reinstalls and possibilities to eliminate. Which means waiting many sets of days before I can repeat, which makes progress frustratingly slow when you depend on the phone (Signal particularly) to connect with people.
AFWall stands out if you're having problem with net connections to apps etc
Yes good point, thank you. I think i've run the ROM with same problems without any rules applied but I've disabled it fully now just to be sure. Much obliged.
If it persists, the proper way of troubleshooting would be to clean install the ROM only, no tweaks, Xposed, firewalls or anything, just the ROM and your apps you're having problems with
If that all works together fine, then add ONE new thing to the mix, test for a few days, rinse and repeat until you add something that causes the problem again
With testing for a few days between each new addition you're be 100% sure what is causing it once it starts again
Thank you! Yes that's the plan but I thought I'd ask first as there's a lot of waiting down that route. I did do it to a point during last build but only waited overnight after each phase. I think I'll start that.now. I can always restore this backup if the solution presents in the meantime.
Yea that's what I was thinking, backup this ROM, clean install, work out the issue, restore this ROM and fix it
Good luck
Thank you I'll report back if/when I work it out, for any other possible future readers.
I changed the base ROM & installed Xposed in a different way and rooted in a different way and tweaked Permissions to be more permissive and and and... I've read rovo89's farewell so I won't say "It's xprivacy" but it's definitely how xposed & xprivacy interact, whether by flashable zip or systemless magisk. It'll work fine for a good while but then starts corrupting everything internet connecting. Removing it removes the problem & restores the app functionality.
Sadly it's the same even if you restrict nothing in xprivacy & just leave it installed & switched on. I've had to remove it. Considering trying to go back to MM as I know it worked on my previous phone.
